Kim could feel the vibrations of Adam's leg shaking under the steering column, it was a nervous tic that drove her absolutely crazy. She peeked over at him in the dark, his jaw was set tight and she could tell he wasn't comfortable having her with him, he had grown accustomed to working without her. Once upon a time in a different life, they loved to work together and they were good at it but after Liam was born it all changed.

"Stop it, pull yourself together" Adam looked at her and stopped shaking, "Sorry, I'm good" he gave her lopsided grin that used to drive her insane, she looked away trying not to be distracted by it. She may not be in love with him anymore but she wasn't blind, that grin, that laugh, those puppy eyes, she liked to tell herself she was immune but she knew she was kidding herself.

"You think Voight chose us for the tension don't you, gotta make this Pimp and prostitute scenario convincing huh?" Kim simply nodded her head and continued to stare out the window.

"You can at least talk to me." he tried to coax her but she continued to ignore him. "Am I really that bad of company?"

"Can we not do this? I just want to get this job done and make it back to Liam." She kept her eyes trained on the passing lights of the city. She didn't want to be this cruel with him but it was the only way she knew how to control her emotions, if she was mad at him then she didn't have to think about what went wrong between them, it was just easier for her.

"Copy that, we'll be there in two minutes anyway" he glanced at her wishing they could just have a conversation without arguing. "Please just promise me if anything happens you won't play hero, you get out and don't look back."

"Adam…" she started but he quickly interrupted her. "No, you get out if anything pops off, promise me." She looked him in the eyes, she knew it was killing him thinking that anything could happen to her and he just wanted her protected for Liam's sake and it broke her heart. "Promise" she whispered.

Kim climbed out of the truck and looked around, they were on the south side in a run-down neighborhood full of dilapidated house that weren't fit for habitation. She scanned the scene quickly memorizing every detail and hurried up to Adam keeping a couple steps behind with her eyes to the ground.

Adam pounded on the door and a large male answered, "Carter?" he asked as Adam nodded his head, "Yeah, you're Lil G right?"

"This the girl?" Adam turned and looked Kim up and down, "You like?" Adam pulled Kim forward by her hand and spun her around letting the guy get a good look at her. "Nice ass and tits, face is decent too, she should go for a pretty penny." Kim pulled her eyes up to Adams and saw the rage that peeked through for a split second and then his mask was put firmly back in place.

"Let's move this inside, see what we can work out, I need to unload her and maybe a couple others."

Kim slipped past the guy in the door and he grabbed her ass, she smacked his hand away and he laughed, "Feisty, I like that, I'll have fun beating it out of her."

Adam stepped between the two, "They might be hoes but I treat them with some respect, no one likes a bruised peach."

"We got a problem? This is my house and I'll treat a whore like the dog she is" the guy squared up to Adam, getting so close to his face, the putrid smell of his breath was overwhelming. "No problem" Adam put his hands up and backed away, "I just run a clean ship".

Lil G looked at him skeptically, "Something feels off, where'd you say you run your girls?"

"All my girls work out of a motel on 76th"

"Which motel?"

Adam laughed, "Come on, what's with the twenty questions? I thought RayRay set this up, he's known me since back in the day" Adam flashed his small smile.

"Yeah, how bout you let me test drive this one for the night and I'll get back to ya with a price? Gotta make sure you ain't offloading cause she can't perform."

"No dice, man. I need the money for her tonight or I walk, I got other buyers, just chose you first cause you're RayRays friend" Adam glanced back at Kim and moved ever so slightly in front of her.

Kim watched the interaction, she could tell the man was becoming cagey and hoped Antonio and Voight were ready to move if needed.

"Hey bitch, how much you worth?" Kim met his eyes, "Call me bitch again" she spat back at him. Adam grabbed her arm and pulled her towards him, his finger curled around her chin and making her look at him. "He asked you a question, now answer, without the lip this time" he spun her around to face Lil G.

"Twelve grand" she rolled her eyes at him. "Your tits drip gold or some shit, cause trust me that mouth ain't worth no twelve, let's make it eight because you ain't been broke yet."

"She's my best girl, a little spoiled and mouthy as fuck but she works hard, how about ten and we got a deal?"

"Why you say you're getting rid of girls?" Lil G pulled Kim toward him, his hands making their way to her ass and hips. Kim watched Adam pulling at his fingers, she knew he was trying to keep his cool and she smirked.

"Got popped on some trumped-up drug charges and need some liquid cash"

Lil G stared Adam down clearly trying to decide if he trusted him or not, "Hey Tyreek" he hollered, Adam could hear movement in the back of the house and another large man appeared through the doorway, "Take her to the back and bring me up ten large."

"She stays until I see money" Adam stepped forward to grab Kim but Lil G pushed her to the couch. "I SAID she goes to the back" Kim gave Adam the slightest of nods and he stepped back two steps raising his hands in surrender.

"Take her" Lil G nodded, Tyreek approached Kim and grabbed a fist full of hair and pulled her from the couch. Kim caught Adams eye and knew he was going to blow it, the look in his eyes was murderous.

"What the fuck!" Adam was to Kim in seconds trying to pull her from his grasp, he felt the cold metal on his temple. "Step the fuck back"

Kim could see the gun from the corner and her heart dropped, she did the only thing she could think of, she raised her foot and drove the spike of her heel into Lil G's foot and kneed Tyreek in quick succession.

Lil G lost his balance, Adam elbowed him in the jaw and throw him to the ground trying to wrestle the gun from his control. Tyreek loosened his grip on Kim's hair enough for her to pull free while he was doubled in pain.

"ADAM!" she screamed and tried to pull Lil G off him put the guy had at least a hundred and fifty pounds on her, "RUN!" Adam huffed at her as he continued to fight the much larger man off him. She heard Tyreek trying to stand in the corner and tried one more futile attempt to help. "You promised" she heard between grunts from Adam and she took one last look around the room and made a dash for the door praying to god that the team was on their way in.

She took two steps out the door, the lights from the cars already there and Voight leading the charge to the door. He was still several paces in front of her, "You okay?" he looked her over as he barreled past. She nodded, "Adam's pinned"

Voight has just reached the door when two gunshots rang out, he breached the door and the sound of four more gunshots echoed through the night.

"Roll an Ambo, officer down with a gunshot wound to the chest and abdomen."
