A/N: Sorry about that last cliffhanger :)

"I knew it," Tam muttered to himself as he tried to blink away the white. He gripped Keefe's shoulder tightly, making sure he wouldn't lose him in the blinding madness. He was about to make a shield of shadows around them when he was knocked to the ground by Glimmer. He hit the edge of the bench as he fell, and felt his cheekbone split open. He managed to keep hold of Keefe, who blindly helped him up. As the light faded, Tam's eyes focused on Glimmer standing in front of them, her hands held out. Tam created a shield just as she released another flash of light. Tam threw the shield at her, but she blocked it.

"I knew I shouldn't have trusted you!" Tam growled.

"Well, it's a good thing you didn't," Glimmer replied. "I had quite the fun time surprising your bodyguard."

"What did you do to Ro?" Keefe demanded.

"Oh, don't worry, she'll be alright. I just had to make sure she didn't burst in on this scene." Tam had to hold Keefe back, so he didn't charge at Glimmer.

Tam continued to fire shadows at Glimmer, who blocked all of them. He felt his energy waning as he continued his attack. He knew he couldn't keep going for much longer, so he made another barrier. Glimmer laughed.

"Giving up so soon?" she teased, trying to see through the mass of shadows. Tam looked desperately at Keefe.

"We can't show her your ability, or how we use it," Tam stated.

"I don't think we have any other options," Keefe replied. He gently grabbed Tam's hand. "We can do this," he reassured, squeezing Tam's hand. Tam squeezed back. They both looked to Glimmer.

"Having fun in there?" Glimmer asked, clearly growing impatient.

Taking a deep breath, Keefe and Tam stretched their free hands out. The shadows in front of them dissolved at Tam's will, leaving Glimmer out in the open. They shot their abilities together, spiraling them towards Glimmer. She was thrown back into a tree with a loud and satisfying crack.

As the adrenaline wore off, Tam felt the energy leave him. He and Keefe both sank to the ground. Tam began to feel the pain in his cheekbone. Keefe used his sleeve to wipe away some of the blood. He kept his hand there to apply pressure, biting his lip as Tam winced. Tam placed his hand on top of Keefe's.

"Thank you," he whispered.

"Anytime," Keefe replied. They both looked to where Glimmer was crumpled on the ground. Suddenly, they saw her arm twitch. Keefe and Tam tried to scramble towards her, but it was too late. She shakingly held her crystal to the sky and crawled into the light, disappearing before their eyes.

"NO!" Keefe and Tam shouted, followed by several inappropriate curses before they both collapsed on the ground in exhaustion. They laid there for what felt like hours as they tried to calm down. Eventually, they turned their heads to face each other. Tam's eyes were clouded, clearly trying to keep in the frustrated tears. Keefe realized he was doing the same.

"I can't believe I let her get away," Tam groaned. "We had her."

"Now she knows everything, and she's going to tell psycho-evil mom all about it," Keefe grumbled. They sat up slowly. Keefe saw Tam was still bleeding, and put pressure on the gash like he had before. Unable to contain themselves any longer, they let a few tears fall.

"I'm so sorry," Tam choked out. "I shouldn't have let her come back with us."

"It's not your fault," Keefe tried to comfort him. "None of us knew if she was going to betray us or not. But we need to hail someone, and find Ro." Tam nodded, taking out his imparter. They hailed everyone, but no one would pick up, even Elwin. Finally, Dex answered after hailing him for a second time.

"What's wrong?" he asked when he saw their faces, his expression melting into concern.

"Glimmer attacked us," Keefe replied.

"And escaped," Tam added.

"Of course she did," Dex reacted bitterly. "Did you hail Elwin?"

"You were the only one to answer," Tam said.

"She did something to Ro," Keefe added. "We don't know what, and we can't find her."

"I'll be right over," Dex said without hesitation, ending the connection.

It didn't take long for Dex to find the two in the yard. He helped them up and led them inside, sitting them down on one of the sofas. He got a cloth for Tam's cheek and other various remedies for the two.

"I'm going to try and find Ro," he told them after the elixirs had been distributed. "You should try hailing Elwin again." Dex went back outside, leaving Keefe and Tam alone again. Keefe followed Dex's instructions, but Elwin still wouldn't answer. Fatigued, he turned to Tam, surprised when he saw he had fallen asleep, his hand still holding the cloth on his cheek. Keefe sighed, leaning back into the sofa as he let his eyes close, his hand unknowingly dropping on top of Tam's as he immediately fell into a deep sleep.
