happy election day yall. I know it's a very stressful day, so I hope you take some time for yourself.
The next chapter was supposed to be part of this but it got long, I might come back and edit this more since it was really hard to write, I actually restarted it three times.
As always I hope you enjoy the chapter
When Midoriya wakes up, the sun is shining through the large common room windows warming the room and making him squint. Despite the light, the hazy film of early morning still lingers.
The smell of eggs cooking in the kitchen, and the sound of Bakugou swearing somewhere else in the building makes it impossible to get back to sleep. Still rubbing the sleep from his eyes, Midoriya's hearing is fuzzy, but he can hear some kind of clamoring underlying the silence.
As he stumbles out of his makeshift bed he almost trips over Jirou who's still sleeping, curled up and barely visible beneath a mountain of blankets next to Momo. Momo looks like she's been awake for hours, miraculously already put together. She glances up at him from the floor hands wrapped around a steaming teacup with the morning's newspaper strewn to the side under her reading glasses. The headline reads "Uproar After Pro Hero Arrested and City Burned!" a rousing reminder of last night's chaos. Momo gives him a suffering look and flips the paper over.
It's not until Uraraka, who was apparently in charge of breakfast, shoves a plate of scrambled eggs into his hands that Midoriya's brain really starts waking up. She grabs him by the wrist and he feels gravity drip away. He lets her slide him, and his breakfast, weightlessly to the couch where she lets him go and presses her hands together. The weight settles back onto his feet and gravity drags him down to the couch. Once he's seated, Uraraka bounces down next to him, barely leaning away in time not to drag her hair through his breakfast.
She jabs a fork, handle first, towards him, "You should eat, looks like it's going to be a very long day" Midoriya takes the fork and spears a clump of eggs
"I know what do you think will happen" he's almost resigned to it at this point. It quickly crosses his mind that there's probably something wrong if he's resigned this early in the morning.
"Aizawa's been in Nezu's office all morning. No one's come to check on us, but we should start getting to class"
Momo chimes in from the floor, glaring regally out the window "I think the worst part will be them."
"Them?" Midoriya abandons his half-eaten breakfast in favor of walking to the windows. Outside, still blocked by various security gates and walls, are a mob of reporters. It doesn't look like anyone's even gone out to talk to them yet, but Midoriya can hear them. Distantly he registers them as the clamoring he heard when waking up. Something in him can't help but stay there, gaping out the window until Uraraka drags him back to the couch again.
"We'll deal with it later, eat now. Aizawa wants all of us in class to talk"
Momo snickers quietly into her tea, somehow not slurping. "I figure you'll want to be wearing…." She trails off glancing up and down at Midoriya's PJs, "something else".
Her comment doesn't quite register until he looks down and takes stock of his clothes. He's wearing aggressively yellow All Might pants, which are fairly normal for him, but his shirt is the one Kaminari got for everyone in the class at the start of their second year. It's message of "I'm just here for the trauma!" printed next to a rendition of their teacher's goggles would be a bit much today.
"Oh, yeah," he scarfs down what's left of his breakfast quickly as Uraraka cackles next to him. Before he rushes off, Momo asks him to round up some of his classmates he agrees and she turns back to wake up Jirou.
After changing into more acceptable clothing, he sets out to track down the four students still unaccounted for. Finding the first three turns out to be easy and he sends them on their way without a fuss. On the other hand, finding Aoyama quickly becomes quite a trial. In the end, his glittery classmate finds him first.
As the boys walk down to class Midoriya notices Ayoyama wearing his uniform, neatly pressed with stray flecks of glitter specking the fabric. Midoriya went with shorts and a tee-shirt. He entertains the idea of running back to his room to change again, but Aoyama leads him into the classroom before he can make a run for it.
It's strange stepping into the classroom without his uniform and school books, but Iida's not wearing his either, and Aizawa seems to be making up for it himself. Early for once, his teacher is wearing nice clothes, and his hair even looks brushed. The last few students stumble in behind them and settle in among the rest of the class. Only a few of his classmates are at their assigned seats, most have chosen to drag over their chairs, bunching up with friends. Midoriya does the sam dragging a chair up next to Iida's desk.
Aizawa glances around the room, taking count of his students before sighing and shifting more upright "First, I'd thought everyone knew, but some of you have your uniforms on so I'll reiterate," a few students perk up "You won't be coming to classes today, but that doesn't mean it's a day off"
Low murmurs ripple across the classroom, Midoriya can pick out a few variations of, "Thank god I can go back to sleep"
Aizawa silences them with a look that screams tired dad, "Most of us will be dealing with the situation, but all of you will be seeing a counselor for the next while" Midoriya hears someone shift hesitantly a few rows away. Uraraka taps the desk in front of him, keeping him from looking back and drawing his attention back to the front as Aizawa speaks again "The school will pay, and patient-doctor confidently still applies" The person shifts again and Aizawa nods "Any other questions?"
Iida's hand shoots up and he's talking before Aizawa can even call on him "Aizawa sensei will there be an organized schedule for counseling!"
"Yes, you'll all get a paper with your slot number and time as you leave" There are a few other questions but Aizawa answers them quickly. There's a beat of silence after the last questions answered before Aizawa glances at the time and dismisses them.
The students are ushered out of the room, filing out the door and picking up their papers as they go.
Piling back into the commons, still a mess from the last few nights, they drape themselves around the room. Ojiro snags the remote but pauses before turning anything on.
Midoriya laughs weakly "Guess there's no point turning on the news since they're all outside" a few of his classmates chuckle, but Tsu whirls around so fast her hair nearly takes Aoyama out. The sudden movement startles everyone and draws stares.
"Please don't!" Midoriyas blood runs cold and his face drops as shock floods him. He's seen the look on Tsu's face before. It's the same look she'd worn outside the dorms their first night there, expecting her classmates to turn on her.
She starts tearing up, eyes still wide. Ojiro gently puts the remote down and Midoriya raises his hands slowly "No. No, we're not doing that. I'm sorry it's ok"
As he talks Uraraka corrals Tsu onto the couch where she curls up between them. "Why don't we just put on a movie" The rest of the class nods numbly still gaping at the scene, they shale it off quickly moving on so they don't make Tsu uncomfortable.
Kaminari pulls out the movies and starts sorting through them, "Something peaceful and calm" he mutters, flipping straight past Kirishima's collection of old horror movies. Before they even reach them Hagakure suggests an old Disney movie. Tsu seconds that quickly, popping up from between Uraraka and Midoriya to suggest The Princess and The Frog.
"A fantastic choice!" cheers Kaminari scrolling to the movie. He pauses it at the title screen as they throw blankets over each other and Momo abducts a small army to gather snacks and warm drinks.
The mood stays stiff and mildly uncomfortable until Tsu starts singing quietly along with the movie. Before long the rest of the class has joined in, and when Mic pokes his head in to check on them Mina has dragged her boys into a dramatic reenactment of Ray and Evangeline's tumultuous romance. As the credits roll the next suggestion, Tangled, ques to play. They decide to just let it play, a few people have to go, Kirishima says he needs to move and a few join him in the gym, Iida's pulled the first slot with the councilor so he heads off with an announcement. Most stay though, taking a short break to rush around to the bathroom and kitchen.
The room is mostly empty when the door pushes open. They look up expecting their classmates but in walk Fuyumi and Natsuo Todoroki.
Everyone still in the room straightens up quickly as the siblings walk over. Fuyumi still has bandages peeking out from under her rain jacket, but she looks much more put together and comfortable without the layer of ash caked over her.
"We know not everyone's here, but we just finished talking with Aizawa." she glances around the room at the students already there and the few who slipped in after them "Shoto's still in the ICU, but they think he'll be in the main hospital sometime tomorrow" There's a few sharp intakes of breath everyone has the same question turning in the mind peering at the siblings hopefully.
Natsuo notices too, and answers before the question's even asked, "He's not awake yet, but you're all set up to visit him whenever." Midoriya can't help but ginning slightly before plans and train times start rushing around in his head. A collection of thank-yous are shouted over each other.
"Well, we're going to head on" they turn, and Fuyumi yawns as they head out the door. Before following his sister out, Natsuo looks back at them and smiles "Thank you"
Midoriya glances at Sero, knowing how heavily this is weighing on his classmate. Sero looks relieved, not like the weight's been lifted from his shoulders more like it's been shifted to a more comfortable position.
Over the course of the day, the siblings aren't the only visitors. People wander in and out passing through in their way to or from meetings with Aizawa and Nezu. Uraraka and Tsu fall asleep most of the way through Tangled, but they wake up when Tamaki and Mirio pad through.
Seeing the graduated heroes brings out some friendly cheers from the class. The announcement that their agency is now responsible for the area Endeavor used to patrol garners even more, including a few very loud whoops that sound like Kirishima and Jirou.
They don't talk to the various lawyers that rush through carrying folders labeled with names they recognize. Todoroki, Dabi, Aizawa, Hizashi, and more. The lawyers don't try to talk to them either.
Teachers check in on them every once in a while and make sure everyone gets to their counseling. For the most part, they just let the movies play. The day takes weird turns through romcoms and family movies. Even the students come and go.
After lunch, Midoriya just can't sit still any longer so he excuses himself and goes for a run. He has to sneak around the back and run through Ground Beta to avoid the press. On his way back it starts to rain, he takes a moment to just be there. He takes out his headphones and just stands in the quiet for a moment.
When he gets back mina is on the phone with most of the class crowded around her. As he pads over Kirishima notices him, "Dude you're soaking wet!"
"I went for a run and got caught out in it"
Kirishima nods and shoots him a thumbs up "We're ordering pizza, unless you want something weird you're covered"
Kaminari shrieks making everyone around him jump, " You're dripping on me!" Midoriya apologizes sheepishly and sneaks upstairs to clean up.
When he gets down, hair still wet, more from the shower than the rain, Mina has a stack of pizzas so high she can't see over them. She sets them down and the class cheers like she just performed a miracle, none of them wanted to cook anyway. Even Bakugou doesn't complain, he just claims all the red pepper flakes.
They clean out the pizza in a shocking amount of time. Momo starts urging people to bed when she notices their eyelids start drooping. Once the first round of students drag themselves to bed Iida gets everyone left to clean up the mess of bedding in the commons. Midoriya makes a few runs, then takes one last load of blankets up to Shoji's room before deciding to call it a night. He collapses into bed and closes his eyes, mentally preparing for classes to start up tomorrow.
