"What a powerful combination attack," Sona noted as they watched Akeno and Sora teaming up to fight against Riser's Queen and becoming successful in defeating her. She pushed up her glasses and analyzed the situation that just transpired. "From what I see, they linked their energies together and used it to perform a strong lightning attack that is too much for even the Bomb Queen to handle."
"I can't believe he can pull off such a thing so easily," Tsubaki commented. "Combining energies together is a hard thing to do, and it could end up horribly if not performed correctly."
"If that's the case, you'll be surprised with what Sora has been able to do by linking his powers with other people." Roxas piped up while he just sat on the couch comfortably. He had decided to just rest here since he was bored and nothing interesting was happening yet, at least for him. Seeing Sora fight against the servants was nothing really new and it was like watching him fight against the Heartless, but maybe Riser Phenex could give him a good show. "We haven't tried linking our powers yet, but I'm sure something interesting will come out from it."
"For devil's sake, is there anything that Ishida-kun can't do, Rox-chan? You make it seem like he's some kind of superhuman…" Momo asked, flabbergasted that a boy like Sora was capable of doing many things that could make other people jealous.
Roxas scratched the back of his head for a few moments, completely stumped in trying to think of something that Sora can't do. It was a challenge for the spiky blonde since he always thinks of Sora as someone who was capable of pulling off the impossible like it was nothing. He was then reminded of a little scenario in his memories, and although he wasn't sure if he was right about this, it was the only thing he could think of.
"I don't know if I'm right about this, but Sora is a nervous wreck when he's interacting with girls, especially Kairi. Wait, now that I think about it, he's only like that when he's around Kairi. He'd risk his life in a heartbeat to save her, but he can't even man up to tell her what he feels," he shrugged his shoulders in a nonchalant way.
"Woah, seriously? He can't tell a girl that he likes her?" Tomoe asked with a confused look. She even walked closer towards Roxas to get her point across. "If Ishida-chan saved your universe multiple times, it shouldn't be hard to say what he feels to one girl!"
"Beats me," Roxas snickered. "Sometimes I wonder what's going on in his head when he's talking to Kairi. It's like he treats it as the apocalypse if he doesn't say the right thing to her."
Xion began to speak up, unsure if this would lead to something good. There was a feeling in her gut that was telling her to cut this conversation short. "Uhm… I'm sure that Sora has his own reasons. Besides, Kairi feels the same way for him and all they have to do is just come clean with it."
"But Xion-chan, this isn't good!" Momo told her in a worried tone. "Ishida-kun likes a girl and she likes him back, but they aren't together! Don't you know how hard that is? Something might happen to one of them and they didn't even get the chance to bs together! They have to confess their feelings before it's too late!"
Roxas smirked. "Well, first things first, we have to figure out where Kairi is. We already know where Sora is, but his 'dearly beloved' has gotta be anywhere in this world."
"I hate to interrupt," Sona's cold voice cut through their little discussion as all pairs of eyes went towards her. "But we didn't come here to discuss Ishida-kun's personal life. Focus on the Rating Game instead, there is still the issue about him being a wielder of a Longinus, despite the fact that he is not from this world."
"I've already lightened up about that, you should do the same." Roxas sighed and rolled his eyes, remembering that he promised Xion to just keep his mouth shut about this. "What, don't you have a personal life, Sona? You don't have someone you like?"
Sona suddenly blushed at his words, causing all of the members of her peerage to gasp in surprise at the fact that Roxas made their stoic president blush yet again, while Xion pouted and frowned at the spiky blonde for his remark.
"Roxas, don't embarrass her like that!"
"Huh? I was just asking a question." Roxas tilted his head in confusion, before turning back towards the Sitri girl with a smirk. "So what's your answer, Prez? Got someone you like?"
"T-That is none of your business," she quickly sputtered, turning her head away to hide her embarrassed look from everyone else. She sent a hidden glare to the members of her peerage who began snickering at the sight of their leader being flustered, especially Momo, Tomoe, and surprisingly Tsubaki.
"Fair enough," Roxas shrugged and went back to leaning back against the couch.
Xion shook her head in disappointment and sighed in defeat. "I really wonder how Axel keeps him under control. I'm starting to consider becoming a devil just to make sure he behaves…"
"WOW! I've never seen a team attack before of that magnitude!" Serafall's eyes lit up in excitement as they watched Sora and Akeno combining their powers to take down Riser Phenex's Queen. Her fists were shaking while her eyes were sparkling while she kept her attention on the brown-haired boy the whole time. "If Akeno-chan's magic levels were already low at that point, then it means that Sora-chan gave her some of his power and they used it together to defeat that woman!"
"From what I know, Sora has been able to perfectly synchronize with people he's come across with to perform attacks like that. Not even I had been able to do a party limit with my friends until recently," Aqua added with a fond smile on her face.
Serafall's eyes widened in shock. "Ehhhh?! But shouldn't that be hard to do, Aqua-chan? Even the most experienced devils working together would have a hard time getting the right power level without overpowering the other! Like, if me and Sirzechs-chan try to combine our powers, I don't even want to imagine what would happen if we fail…"
"I have no idea how Sora does it, but I guess it proves how unique he is. Truly a rare gem among keyblade wielders." Aqua was unaware of the small blush that appeared on her face as she said those words, but once she did notice it, her eyes widened and she quickly shook her head to get rid of it. "Why was I blushing?" she thought in surprise, touching her cheeks slowly.
"Awwwww, now I'm really jealous of Rias-chan!" Serafall crossed her arms and pouted cutely, slumping back in her chair. "She has such a cute, handsome, and powerful servant to her own! Sora-chan could've been mine if I found him first… who knows what kind of team attack we're capable of doing?!" Performing a complete 180, she cupped her chin and was deep in her thoughts about Sora. "I can already see it… Magical Levia-tan and Keyblade Master Sora Super Special Team Attack! Yeah, that sounds like a good name!"
Aqua had a massive sweat-drop as she raised her hand to try and get the Leviathan's attention. "Lady Serafall, can you please behave? It's unbefitting of your position as a Maou…"
"It's a testament to the power of the Red Dragon Emperor," Sirzechs agreed as he too was blown away by Rias' Pawn and Queen combining their power into one big attack. "It is said that one of the abilities of the Boosted Gear is that its user can transfer the power it grants to another person… it's no wonder Sora Ishida can perform a successful collaboration attack without failure."
That got Aqua's attention as she turned towards the Maou Lucifer. "Really?" she asked whilst raising her eyebrow. If that was the case, then it would indeed explain how Sora could effortlessly pull off a party limit with any of his friends. However, the blue-haired master still had doubt in her mind. "P-Please forgive me for asking, Lord Sirzechs, but how do you know that the Boosted Gear can do that if it was a lost Longinus?"
"There is no need to apologize if you are only being curious, Master Aqua." Sirzechs smiled as he looked towards the keyblade master. "But to answer your question, it is because when the Longinus were created by the God of the Bible, his angels knew about all of them and what they were capable of. Since it was a time of war back then, the information about the Longinus spread fast around the supernatural world and soon enough, a search was conducted to find all of the Longinus wielders with the sole purpose of gaining their allegiance in the war."
"...Because the Longinus were powerful Sacred Gears that can kill gods?" Aqua interjected.
"Precisely. Out of all thirteen Longinus, only seven of them have been located throughout the years and gained new hosts as time went on. Unfortunately, the remaining six remain lost until now, and no one knows if there is even a host who possesses them. Even the angels didn't have knowledge on the whereabouts of those six Longinus after God sent them into the world."
"And now… Sora is in possession of one of them?" Aqua spoke, connecting the pieces together. Having any further doubts about this wouldn't lead anywhere, and the least she could do was figure out the truth behind this mystery. "I guess… since Sora is from another universe, it would make sense why the Boosted Gear was treated as a lost Longinus. It's completely out of anyone's reach, until Sora came here."
"But the big question is how Rias' pawn managed to gain possession of it," Sirzechs nodded. "This has puzzled me more than any other problem I've encountered in my time as a Maou, but it makes me want to know more about this."
"I understand," Aqua nodded. "I'll help in any way I can to solve this, because I am completely puzzled as well. There has to be a reason why Sora is in possession of a Longinus, and I want to know what it is. I am sure Sora's friends feel the same too."
Sirzechs flashed a pleasant smile. "I speak for all of the Maou when I say that we appreciate your help, Master Aqua."
Sora and Akeno watched as Yubelluna, Riser Phenex's Queen, disappeared with Grayfia's officially announcing her defeat. The raven-haired girl was panting in exhaustion and had to lean on the keybearer to keep herself from falling, but she managed to flash a smile along with Sora now that they were victorious over Riser's most powerful servant.
However, their little celebration would not last for long with what happened next.
KA-BOOM!
A large explosion was heard from the main school building, with smoke rising into the air.
"What was that?" Sora exclaimed as he turned to the source of the noise. "Did something just explode?"
"It came from… the school building… Sora-kun." Akeno raised her hand and pointed to the direction of the new school building. She then frowned as she realized what could be happening there at this very moment. "Riser Phenex is fighting against someone from our side."
"Everyone!" Asia's voice rang out through their communicators. "Buchou was challenged by Riser Phenex, and the two of them are fighting! P-Please, we need help! I-I-I can't keep on casting barriers to protect —!" Her voice was cut off as another explosion was heard.
"Asia? Asia, what happened?!" Sora called out through the com-link in his ear. He was then filled with worry for the well-being of the blonde girl, and the only thing that prevented him from storming to the school building out of rage was the lack of Grayfia's confirmation of Asia's defeat.
"You should go, Sora-kun." Akeno said with a serious tone, narrowing her eyes at the direction of where the explosions were coming from. Sora turned his head towards the girl and their eyes met. "Leave me here. Go help them, they need you."
"Will you be okay?" As much as Sora wanted to head over to where Asia and Rias were, he couldn't just leave Akeno alone with no one around to look after her.
Akeno nodded, her face completely devoid of her usual playful and teasing self. "I'll be fine, Rias and Asia need you more."
Sora looked conflicted for a few moments before he finally nodded, removing Akeno's arm off his shoulder as he helped her sit on the ground carefully. But before he could stand up, Akeno leaned close to give him a kiss on the cheek, which caused Sora's face to turn red in embarrassment.
"W-W-W-W-W-Wha…" he stuttered, looking over at Akeno with his face becoming redder than Rias' hair as his hand slowly touched the area where she just kissed him.
"Ufufu, that's for good luck in facing off with Riser Phenex." Akeno teased, her sweet smile returning.
Aaannndd, she was back to her normal self. Great.
"T-T-T-Thanks… I guess…?" His face still red from embarrassment, Sora quickly stood up like a robot and was about to leave Akeno there, only for another voice to stop him in his tracks.
"Wait! Red Dragon Emperor! I need to speak with you!"
Forgetting his embarrassment for the moment, the keybearer turned his head to see Ravel running towards him with a frantic look on her face.
"Ravel-chan?" he asked, frowning out of confusion. Didn't he tell her to stay out of sight so she could be safe? He crouched a bit so that he could be at eye level with the blonde girl who stopped just in front of him. "Why are you here, I thought you were going to stay put near the gym?"
"I… I wanted to give you something!" With a blushing face, Ravel pulled out a vial of Phoenix Tears and handed it out for Sora to take. "I know you're going to fight against my brother, so… y-you might need this…"
"Ravel-chan?" Sora blinked, looking at the girl in confusion.
"D-D-Don't get the wrong idea," Ravel huffed shyly as she turned her head away. "My brother is an immortal Phenex, it wouldn't be a fair battle for you since he can heal from any wound you give him."
Sora looked at the girl for a few moments before he smiled, taking the vial from her and holding it tight. "Thanks, Ravel-chan!" he grinned, ruffling the girl's hair that made her blush even deeper. "Just stay here with Akeno, okay? I got this!" He turned on his heel and looked like he was about to leave, only to turn back and face Ravel one more time while giving her a thumbs-up. "Oh, and just call me 'Sora', Ravel-chan! We're friends, aren't we?"
And with that, Sora drew out his devil wings and flew towards the school building, knowing that running all the way might make him too late in saving Rias and Asia from the Phenex.
"Friends…" Ravel watched as Sora took the air and flew off, before she turned her head towards Akeno, who also had her attention on the keyblade wielder. "He doesn't know that he's the Red Dragon Emperor, does he?" she asked while raising an eyebrow.
"I'm afraid he doesn't." Akeno only shook her head, her expression once again turning into a serious one.
BOOM!
Up on the rooftop of the main school building, Rias shot several volleys of dark orbs enhanced with her Power of Destruction. Her opponent countered everything she threw at him, either with fireballs of his own or by letting Rias' attacks hit him and then letting his body regenerate from getting disintegrated. It wasn't entirely one-sided in Riser's favor though, as Asia was only several feet away from Rias.
Her arms were outstretched towards Rias, casting multiple Aero spells that Sora taught to her in order to protect her leader from Riser's attacks. The Phenex grew increasingly angry every time Asia would create a wind barrier that would block his attacks.
"WILL YOU STOP IT WITH YOUR USELESS MAGIC?! IT IS INEVITABLE THAT I WILL WIN THIS RATING GAME!" he snapped, glaring hatefully at Asia.
Rias smirked as she prepared another dark orb of destruction. "I've never seen you so angry before, Riser. Planning to give up?"
Riser responded with a smirk of his own, returning to his smug demeanor. "Not at all, my beloved. And don't worry, I look forward to defeating you and all of your servants… in particular, that pawn of yours!"
"Don't get ahead of yourself, bastard! You'll have to get through me before you can lay a finger on any of them, especially Sora!" Rias shouted in defiance as she shot a beam of her destruction power towarde Riser, destroying his right arm completely.
The blonde man only chuckled at her attempt, unaffected by the attack. "You're better off resigning, Rias." he told her through narrowed eyes as flames came out of his severed arm, before they formed a new one. "I'm calling check. I know every move you're going to make, my love… and you say I don't know you well."
Rias glared back at Riser with pure hatred in her eyes. "If you think I'm going to give up so easily, then you're wrong! All of your servants are gone, even your Queen, and you're the only one left! It'll be over for you soon!"
"Very well… you leave me no choice," Riser raised his arm as a large orange magic circle appeared over his hand. With a loud roar, a large stream of fire rushed towards Rias and Asia, the biggest one yet.
"Aero!" Asia casted another wind barrier, this time surrounding them both to protect themselves from the incoming blast.
"Damn it!" Rias put up her own shield in front of them, quickly realizing that Asia's spell won't be enough to absorb the flames. However, even that wasn't enough as she began to struggle in keeping up her barrier against the powerful attack of her opponent. Just as her shield was about to fall…
"Buchou!" Asia quickly pushed the Gremory girl aside, undoing Rias' shield before screaming in pain as she took the full force of Riser's attack.
"Asia!" Rias cried, unable to do anything but watch. When the flames finally receded, a badly burned Asia, her school uniform ruined, fell to the ground unconscious. A few seconds later, Asia shone brightly before disappearing.
["Rias-sama's bishop has retired."]
"Hmph, that Bishop was getting on my nerves." Riser said, his smirk widening in triumph while Rias gritted her teeth in rage. "Looks like it has all come down to you and I, my beloved Rias."
Rias screamed in anger and frustration, sending large blasts of her destructive power, vaporizing Riser from the chest down. The Phenex just stayed in his place until flames gathered around him and reformed his body until it was good as new. That arrogant smirk of his just pissed her off to no end!
"This is checkmate, my dear Rias!" he boasted arrogantly. "Without your Bishop, you won't be able to heal yourself! But there is still a way you can end this peacefully. All you have to do is take my hand and swear your eternal love to me. You won't need to suffer any more pain and humiliation that way!"
Rias glared as she struggled to keep herself from falling to her knees. Using so much of her power in one sitting drained her faster, even with all the training she had done to improve her endurance. Her clothing was charred and burned off from Riser's flames, with sweat pouring down her face. Despite this, she willed herself to stay on her feet defiantly.
"You'll have to forgive me… Riser…" she spoke in between breaths, while showing off a proud grin. "I've said it once… and I will say it again. The man I want to marry… isn't you."
Riser's eyebrow twitched as his face twisted into a scowl. Flaming wings appeared behind his back as the aura of a phoenix rose up behind him. "Is that so? By all means then, I'm putting an end to your stubbornness here and now, with the purifying flame of the immortal phoenix!" He raised his arms above his head as a giant fireball began to appear. With a roar, he shot it towards Rias with all of his strength. Unable to move from her place, the crimson-haired girl closed her eyes as the heat drew closer.
But it never reached her.
"Waterga!"
The next thing Rias felt was heat, but it wasn't from the flames. It was like… something similar to smoke, since it wasn't enough to feel like she was burning. Since when did Riser start to use something like that? In fact, the only thing she could feel was more sweat running down her face.
Her curiosity winning her over, Rias opened her eyes and found herself staring at the back of a familiar spiky-haired brunette who was pointing his keyblade to the direction of the Phenex.
Rias blinked slowly. "...Sora? Is that you?" she muttered in shock.
The boy turned his head towards her with his signature smile. "Sorry I'm late, Rias. I had to fight almost all of Riser's servants before getting here, but it's gonna be okay. You can take a rest because I'll take it from here!" he exclaimed while giving her a thumbs-up.
"Sora…" Tears began to form in her eyes, but not because of sadness or anguish. Instead, they were out of happiness, because her beloved pawn had arrived to even the odds against Riser Phenex.
"Are you okay? Can you move?" He asked her, before he noticed that a certain blonde girl was missing. "Where's Asia? Wasn't she with you?"
"Somehow…" Rias held her arm as she collapsed on her legs. "I've used too much of my power… I can move, but only barely. My wounds aren't helping much, either." She then sent a heated glare at Riser. "Asia… she got burned badly by that bastard… she's gone."
Hearing those words caused the boy's expression to darken slightly. "Really?" Sora gave Riser a glare of his own, adding yet another reason in his mind on why he had to take this guy down. He quickly turned back towards Rias and began to speak in a serious tone before pointing the keyblade towards her. "I'll handle this guy, Rias. You stay back and be safe."
"Curaga."
As Rias felt her wounds disappearing, she knew that her pawn was right even though she was reluctant to accept that fact. If she stays here any further, they could lose the whole match and that almost happened had Sora not arrived. Furthermore, she had seen and knew enough about Sora to know that she could only put her trust in him if his mind and heart were set on something.
Riser looked bewildered that the Pawn managed to stop his fire so easily, more so by doing it using magic that matched his own power. This boy continued to take him by surprise at every turn since they met, but the man somehow got to regain his composure as he folded his arms.
"I must admit, I'm impressed that you managed to blow away my flames like that." Riser spoke, narrowing his eyes at Sora while Rias quietly sneaked away to observe the impending battle from a distance. "You don't look like much, but you managed to defeat at least half of my peerage on your own, and you don't look tired one bit. I'm assuming you are also the one who defeated Yubelluna, and she has never fell in battle before."
"You mean your Queen? I had a little help taking her down." Sora flashed a rare cocky smirk while resting his keyblade on his shoulder.
"Is that so? Well, if that is the case, then you're not as strong as I hoped you'd be. I had faith when you defeated my pawns, but truly they were just weaker than you." Riser smirked arrogantly once again, now confident that he can take this boy down without any problems. "I was curious about your abilities and you'd show me them in a worthy battle, but it will only be a waste now. You will fall to me just like how Rias and the rest of you will."
"Not a chance!" Sora pointed his keyblade at Riser before scowling. This man before him was the one who was threatening to take his master's freedom away. "I'm here to stop you before you go too far. You're not as bad as the people I fought against in the past, but you need to learn a big lesson about respect and honor. You're not a bad guy, but you will be if I don't stop you here. I'm ending this now, Riser."
"HA! Big words from a frail boy like you," Riser laughed. "Why don't you prove yourself then?"
"Oh, I will! Because I've been saving this for you!" Sora grinned as he twirled the keyblade in his hand before raising it into the air while yelling out his next words. "Promotion: Bishop of Wisdom!"
Almost immediately, Sora's body shone in bright light to the point that Riser had to cover his eyes with his arm. When it simmered down a few seconds later, the Phenex got a good look at the pawn who had undergone a promotion. His clothes and overall appearance were the same, except for one little detail.
"Better be ready, because I'm going to win this for Rias!" Sora exclaimed as he prepared himself to fight, twirling his keyblade behind him multiple times before gripping it tight.
And there we go. I apologize for the lack of action this chapter, but I don't want to rush things. There are still some important things that happened this chapter, like Aqua finally accepting the fact that Sora is indeed the wielder of the Boosted Gear and Ravel giving Sora some Phoenix Tears. What purpose will it serve when Sora can already heal himself with his magic? We'll find out as this story rolls on. Also, I have to give credit to that one guy who suggested to have Asia learn some magic spells from Sora. It was a good idea and it would give her some time to shine instead of just being in the sidelines, like what you saw this chapter.
And boom, big reveal. Bishop promotion is Wisdom Form, was there any other doubt that it wasn't? I have to make it clear that when Sora promotes himself, his clothes don't change. The only thing that Sora has here that affects his overall look is the way he holds his keyblades. For Rook promotion, you already know what it is. For Bishop, it's the same as how Sora holds the keyblade when in Wisdom Form. Next chapter should be interesting, because we're finally about to head into the final battle of the Rating Game: Sora vs Riser.
SORA'S PROMOTIONS (I figured I should explain how his promotions work since they are similar to the Drive Forms, but also different at the same time):
1. Limit Knight - enhances Sora's mobility and speed; enables glide, superjump, quick run, aerial dodge, dodge roll
2. Rook of Valor - enhances Sora's strength and defense tenfold; enables dual-wielding but cannot cast magic in this promotion
3. Bishop of Wisdom - enhances Sora's magic and allows him to shoot light-powered projectiles from his keyblade; enables the use of Grand Magic (Firaza, Waterza, Blizzaza, Thundaza, Aeroza, Curaza); Sora can still attack normally using the keyblade in this promotion
Goodbye… and good night! BANG! *too sweet gesture*
