Chapter 5: Viridian Forest and Pewter City.

Tommy shopped at the Poke Mart before he left Viridian City and soon arrived in the thick, dark woods of the Viridian Forest and looked to see the various types of Bug Pokemon.

Suddenly, a Pokemon he recognized all too well came out of the tall grass. It looked like a yellow mouse with red cheeks and a lightning bolt-shaped tail.

"Pikachu!" Tommy said. He sent out Nidoran.

"Nidoran, Double Kick!" Tommy said. Nidoran did so and pushed Pikachu back a little, but the Electric Mouse wasn't ready to go down easy. It struck back with a powerful Thundershock that Nidoran almost couldn't withstand. It held on however and struck back with a Poison Sting that rendered Pikachu immobile.

"Is that enough?" Tommy asked as he threw a Pokeball, but Pikachu burst out of it.

"Must need to wear it down a bit more." Tommy said, "Nidoran, Headbutt!"

Nidoran charged with its forehead ready to strike, but Pikachu countered with a super fast attack that left a trail of dust behind it. The two attacks collided, but Nidoran was sent flying back.

"Nidoran, Poison Sting once more!" Tommy said. Nidoran shot white needles out of its mouth that sent Pikachu flying back once again.

"This should do it!" Tommy said as he threw another Pokeball. He watched anxiously as it shook before it dinged.

"All right!" Tommy said as he picked up the Pokeball.

As he made his way through the Viridian Forest, he caught a Caterpie, a Weedle, and even a Bulbasaur.

Sooner or later, though, he ran into a Bug Catcher.

"You wanna challenge my Pokemon?" he asked.

"Sure." Tommy said as he sent out Pidgey, while the Bug Catcher sent out Weedle.

"Weedle, Horn Attack!" the Bug Catcher said. Weedle leapt at Pidgey with its horn.

"Pidgey, dodge it, then use Gust!" Tommy said. Pidgey did so and blew Weedle back with a Gust. Weedle was knocked out almost instantly.

"You're pretty good." the Bug Catcher said.

Tommy then went on to battle more Trainers in the forest, with his Pokemon gaining more and more experience.

Once he defeated the last Trainer in the forest, the Trainer said, "Not bad, kid. I'll bet you can challenge Brock."

"Brock?" Tommy asked.

"The Gym Leader of Pewter City. His Rock-Types are weak against Grass, Fighting, and Water types." the Trainer said.

About an hour later, Tommy arrived in Pewter City and headed to the Pokemon Center.

"I'm willing to bet that Brock won't be easy to beat. So, I can use this time to strategize." Tommy said.
