Chapter 6: Vs. Brock.
The next day, Tommy had thought long and hard about his battle plan and now he felt that he was finally ready to challenge Brock. He walked up to the Pewter Gym building and took a deep breath before he walked in.
"Who goes there?" asked a voice. Tommy looked to see a dark-skinned boy with black hair and a green vest over an orange shirt.
'So it is the same Brock.' Tommy thought remembering him from the battle with Team Rocket concerning the Orb of Darkness.
"I'm Tommy from Gotham City. I'm here to challenge you." Tommy said.
"Is this your first Gym Battle?" Brock asked.
"Yes." Tommy answered.
"Very well, then. We will use two Pokemon each. No time limit. Also, you may switch Pokemon if you want, but I can't." Brock said.
"Okay." Tommy said before he took his place at the other end of the battlefield.
"Geodude, go!" Brock said as he released a Pokemon that looked like a rock with arms.
"Go, Bulbasaur!" Tommy said as he released the Grass Type.
"Geodude, Tackle!" Brock ordered. Geodude rushed towards Bulbasaur, only for it to dodge and counter with Vine Whip.
"Nice job, Bulbasaur! Now, Razor Leaf!" Tommy ordered. Bulbasaur shot two sharp leaves at Geodude, which it dodged and countered with a Tackle.
"Man. All right, Bulbasaur, return!" Tommy said as he called it back.
"Nidoran, go!" Tommy called as he sent out his Nidoran.
"Double Kick!" Tommy ordered. Nidoran hit Geodude with two kicks. It was super effective. Geodude fell almost instantly.
"Return, Geodude!" Brock said.
"Not bad, Tommy. But, let's see if you can beat Onix!" Brock said as he released a giant Pokemon that looked like a snake made of rocks.
"Holy!" Tommy said as he observed Onix.
"Onix, use Slam!" Brock said as Onix slammed its tail down, which Nidoran barely managed to dodge.
"Nidoran, Double Kick!" Tommy said.
"Onix, Bide!" Brock said. Onix took the full force of the Double Kick.
Tommy then waited for Onix to strike back, but it didn't.
"Well, then, Double Kick once more!" Tommy said. Nidoran did so. Onix looked like it was about to fall over, but it held its ground and swung its tail again, knocking Nidoran back with enough force that it could barely stand.
"What the?! Nidoran, return!" Tommy called as he called back Nidoran and sent out Bulbasaur.
"When using Bide, Onix can't attack until after it's been attacked twice." Brock said.
'Bulbasaur, Leech Seed!" Tommy called. Bulbasaur shot a seed that wrapped Onix in vines and surrounded it with a red glow that drained its health, but left it still standing.
"Onix, Iron Tail!" Brock called. Onix's tail glowed white and it hit Bulbasaur full force, knocking it out and breaking the vines.
"Bulbasaur, return!" Tommy said before he sent Nidoran back out.
"You've put up a good battle, but I'm afraid this is where it ends. Onix, Slam!" Brock said.
Tommy braced for it before he got an idea, "Nidoran, run up Onix's back!"
Nidoran jumped out of the way of the Slam and ran up Onix's back using Quick Attack.
"Double Kick!" Tommy called. Nidoran launched two powerful kicks and Onix fell over.
"Onix is unable to battle! Nidoran wins!" a digital voice said.
"Awesome!" Tommy said as he went to go pet Nidoran.
"Well done. I admit I didn't think you were at a high level enough to defeat my Rock Pokemon. Take this as proof of your victory." Brock said as he handed Tommy a badge that looked like a rock.
"What's this?" Tommy asked.
"Proof of your victory. The Boulder Badge. If you want to enter the Pokemon League, you need to earn eight Gym Badges." Brock said.
"Right." Tommy said.
"I'll give you this as well." Brock said before he took a disc out of his jacket pocket.
"TM34. You can teach your Pokemon Bide with that." Brock said.
"Thank you, Brock." Tommy said before he left the Gym and headed to the next route.
