Sorry I haven't posted much recently I'm trying to sort a few things out I'll explain more in the authors note at the bottom. This is set a year after Endgame and I hope your ready.
"We're losing him," Bruce shouted, his voice barely audible over the medical machines that were screaming in the background. He didn't know what to do, he was a medical doctor not a magician. Ever since Steve had returned from the time heist to put the stones back, they had been looking for a way to revert him back to his original self, so far they had been unsuccessful, and it looked like they were out of time.
He had no idea where he was, one minute he was in the medical bay on the helicarrier, next he was here wherever here was. He could barely see his hand in front of his face, it was a land of swirling white mist. He could hear voice but they were all faint. he could hear them getting fainter and fainter. He suddenly felt the overwhelming urge to lay down and sleep, and unable to fight it, he collapsed. The ground was soft and warm, and that was the last thing he felt before his vision slowly faded to black.
"Steve!? Is it really you?"
That voice, so familiar.
Welcome to Wonderland
We've got it all
Potions and pastries that make you grow tall
Forests and cottages, castles and cards that can talk
He could sense someone kneeling down next to him.
"Steve, wake up." He felt them gently shake him. His eyes slowly opened, and grunting slightly he pushed himself up. His vision was blurry. He raised his hand up to rub at his eyes. Slowly the blurriness began to disappear, and as it did, he could finally see the person who had shook him awake.
"T…Tony, how? I…I thought, we all thought…" he let his sentence trail off, "This is a dream right, any moment I'm gonna wake up and you'll be gone." He sighed as he stood up. He turned away as if waiting for this dream to end.
"Steve, look I don't know how best to put this," he heard Tony groan, he had never been the best with words, "This isn't a dream, you are here I am here. We are dead." Shock hit Steve like a wave, he wasn't dead, there was no way, he knew that after he put the stones back, he had stayed with them, but it couldn't have been that long, could it.
"No, no, no, I can't be dead, this isn't real this is some dream, it always is," he said beginning to panic slightly. Tony noticed this, he began to move forwards, and wrapped his arms around Steve, pulling him into a tight embrace. Steve placed his head in the crook of Tony's neck and wrapped his arms round his waist, he breathed in his scent, he still smelt the same as always, of oil and hot metal from when he was working tirelessly in the lab.
"See, this is real Steve, I am here and I'm not gonna leave again," Tony said giving him a slight squeeze. "Come on," he said releasing Steve and grabbing his hand, "There are some others here who would be happy to see you." He led him away from the foggy land where he had awoken. As they got further away from it, the fog began to thin until he was in a beautiful land, with rolling green hills, patchworked with clumps of dark green trees. A river snaked its way through the middle, glinting like a million diamonds in the sun.
"What is this place?" Steve asked, mouth agape at the wonderful landscape ahead of him.
"Welcome to Wonderland Steve," Tony replied with a smirk, before dragging him along.
Welcome to Wonderland
Look where you're at
Maddest of hatters
The Cheshire Cat
Magical cabins and lovely white rabbits with clocks
Dancing through a dream
Underneath the stars
Laughing 'til the morning comes
Everyone that leaves has a heavy heart
Oh, Wonderland I love
Dragging Steve along, he weaved through the trees, small twigs crunched underfoot, the sound echoing slightly, scaring small creatures. The undergrowth rustled as the scampered away. Up ahead voices could be heard. "Recognise them yet?" Tony asked. Steve shook his head. Suddenly there was a whoosh, and a familiar voice beside him said.
"You didn't see that coming?"
Steve jumped a little, and the short haired blond beside him chuckled.
"Come on Pietro, don't scare him to death, don't know what happens if you die here," Tony said chuckling as well, "Where's Nat?"
"Up ahead, she heard you coming but noticed another set of footfalls, wanted me to make sure you hadn't mutated more limbs in another experiment."
"I am offended, my experiments don't go that badly wrong."
"Really, what about that time something exploded and…"
"We don't need to re live that moment thank you, anyways to answer any questions no I don't have four legs, I have brought someone along to say hi." Pietro shrugged, and sped off, probably to tell Nat what was going on. "We should probably keep going, knowing Pietro, he will already have told Nat you're here. He can't keep his gob shut," Tony sighed before dragging Steve onwards. As they got closer to the voices ahead, Steve could make out the shape of two people stood together talking. Getting closer still he could hear there voices clearer, they were women. Even closer still, he could make out the fiery red hair cascading down one of the women's backs, and the shorter curly brown hair sitting at shoulder length on the other. At this he knew who they were.
"Nat…Peggy?" Steve said in disbelief.
"At ease soldier," Peggy said, noticing how stiff Steve had gone, "You look pale, seen a ghost?" At this Tony chuckled. Steve didn't know what to say.
"So, I'm guessing you already knew we were on our way, didn't you?" Tony said looking at Nat.
"Yeah, we had a messenger, our own little Hermes, quite literally with his speed."
"Your little messenger nearly gave Capsicle a heart attack," Tony chuckled, "Well, don't let me disturb you, go back to whatever you were doing, come on Steve." Tony grabbed his hand again and pulled him off. The two women continued their conversation, growing quieter and quieter as they moved further away. They walked until they were out of the wooded area. Tony continued walking through the knee-high grass, small bugs flying up from the disturbed blades. He eventually stopped beside and crystal-clear lake. He sat down underneath a large willow tree, the branches skimming the water, making ripples in the almost still water. The sunlight reflected off the surface shining like a thousand aquamarine shards.
Welcome to Wonderland
I'll be your guide
Holding your hand under sapphire skies
Let's go exploring or we could just go for a walk
Welcome to Wonderland
Where should we go?
There's a tea party along down the road
Make an appearance and maybe they'll sing us a song
Dancing through a dream
Underneath the stars
Laughing 'til the morning comes
Everyone that leaves has a heavy heart
Oh, Wonderland I love
"This is nice, what do you think Steve?" Tony asked patting the ground beside him. Steve sat down, resting his head on Tony's shoulder.
"It's amazing, but I still don't belive this, its too good to be true."
"What can I do to prove it?" Tony asked.
"I don't know, you already have done what you can."
"What's that?"
"Told me the truth, straight. I will always belive you, I always have."
"Then you know this is real, now get over here," Tony said, grabbing Steve by the waist and pulling him closer, resting his head on Steve's shoulder pressing small kisses to his neck. They stayed like this for a while. "I'm tired, lay down I wan to use you as a pillow," Tony said, giving Steve a gentle shove. They both laid down and Steve wrapped his arms round Tony, pulling the smaller man close to his chest. He listened to the sounds of the wind rustling through the branches of the willow, the birds chirping softly. He felt Tony's breathing even out as he fell into a light doze. A sudden wave of tiredness overcame him and it wasn't long before he too was asleep.
He wasn't sure how long he had been asleep for, but when he woke up, a hazy fog was taking over the landscape. Shaking Tony awake, Steve asked "What is going on? Tony, what's happening?" The smile on Tony's face instantly fell.
"I knew it," he said, "It's not time."
"What do you mean? Tony… What do you mean its not time?" Steve asked, he was beginning to panic. The fog was getting thicker.
"Steve, I don't know how long you have left, but I can tell you this, we will meet again." Tony sat up and pulled Steve closer, capturing his lips in a gentle but passionate kiss. "Steve, I love you 3000." At this the fog got thicker and thicker, Steve couldn't see Tony anymore.
"Tony? Where are you this isn't funny. Tony… Tony… TONY!" He began to panic, his breathing quickened as he began to scramble around. Suddenly his vision blurred and began to fade to black.
When he awoke, he was back in the med bay. He was acutely aware of others around him. "Tony where's Tony?" he looked around and saw the concerned faces of the other Avengers.
"Cap, what are you talking about, Tony is dead, and to be honest we thought you were for a minute there," Clint said from beside him.
"No that's not true, it can't be," he said, jumping from the bed and running from the room.
"Leave him, I'll go talk to him" Bucky told the others, "He is confused and upset, I can't blame him. He was just dead, good idea of yours though Scott, pushing time through him." He walked out of the room and went off to find Steve.
He found him sat by the window, overlooking the large lake by the Avengers headquarters. "Hey, you OK?" Bucky asked sitting down next to him, putting an arm round his shoulders comfortingly.
"I saw him, Buck, I saw him."
"Who Tony?"
"Yes, he was there, as clear as I'm seeing you, Peggy was there too, and Nat and Wanda's twin Pietro, and now they are gone. How did you bring me back?"
"Well, I don't know exactly, but Scott mentioned something about pushing time through you, must have been something that happened when I was still not in existence anymore, anyways, Bruce tried it and well here you are, alive, so I guess it worked."
"Yeah," Steve replied. He didn't know what else to say," Can I just have some time, its like coming out of the ice all over again."
"Sure, whatever you need," Bucky said, patting him on the back before walking off to see the others.
Two months later,
He still hadn't gotten over seeing Tony again. He didn't tell anyone though, he put on the regular fake mask of happiness, and didn't let the others know how he really felt, after all a hero is meant to be strong aren't they?
Nothing around here is quite
As it seems
Not sure if anything is real
Or a dream
And the only thing sure from the start
Is the song that's inside of your heart
Don't let it leave
If this was a dream
Then at least I've got
Memories for when morning comes
Now that I must leave with a heavy heart
Oh, Wonderland I love

A/N: For anyone who is reading this and is wondering when all my other stuff is going to be updated, it will be a while. I have recently changed my laptop, because my old one broke and I am trying to find a way to transfer everything I had on there to my new one. I had many many chapters already written up for publishing, and I don't want to have to re-write them, so please be patient and they hopefully will be up shortly. If there are any you want to see updated specifically I have a poll up at the moment, go choose your favourite and it will be updated first and finished first.
Anyways thanks for reading please leave a review and tell me what you thought.
