Prologue 1: The Accident
Ruby Rose, a young girl born on the island of Patch, her younger years can be best described as contradictory, it was peaceful yet violent, full of life and hope but full of death and despair, but every good, bad life has a beginning
"Ruby can you come to the living room," Yelled Taiyang, her father
"Coming," Said the 8-year-old Ruby running from her room, once she made it downstairs she saw her half-sister Yang sitting on the couch as the young raven-haired girl got on the couch as well
"Why did you call us down here dad ?" Asked the 10-year-old blondette as her head was tilted slightly to emphasize her confusion
"Well, I got called for some work up at Signal so I'll be gone for a good while, so I trust at least one of you to not do something stupid if something comes up my number is on the fridge like usual, also don't go in the shed, I've been working on something with a friend of mine so don't get anywhere near the shed," Tai explained which he got as a response was a thumbs up from Ruby and a nod from Yang
"We won't dad," Assured the elder sister as the father just smiled ever so slightly before leaving the small house, Yang just looked over to Ruby who just looked back
"Yang, no," She just replied as the other sister just grinned mischievously and simply went out the door to the back towards the shed which the ravenette just groaned in annoyance before going as well to make sure her older relative doesn't do something stupid
Once the two sisters reached the shed, Yang opened its door and saw some kind of machine that was the size of a cockpit but was the shape of an oval, the blondette slowly approached it with Ruby behind her
"What do you think it is ?" Questioned Ruby aloud as she noticed some cords or piping snaking from the back of it, the eldest sibling just shrugged and walked over to the computer to take a look as the 8-year-old moved to the machine itself
Yang looked at some of the things on the computer as Ruby walks in the machine and looked around the machine as her older sister found what seems to be some kind of execution code so out of curiosity she presses the enter button on the computer as a glass door slides out, trapping Ruby in the pod
"Ruby !" Yang exclaimed as she banged on the glass as the machine seem to be charging up
"Yang !" Ruby cried back as she pressed her hands against the glasses the machine was close to finishing charging, both girls were banging on the glass as there was a loud click from the machine and it fired as the glass chamber filled with a green glowing light
"Ruby !" Yang yelled to the top of her lungs as the machine powered down and the glass opened and she ran to her younger sister, Yang quickly checked Ruby's pulse which there was one but it was weak so she quickly picks up the ravenette and left the shed, closing the door behind her and went to the house
When Yang got in the house she set Ruby on the couch and checked her pulse which it was still weak but seemed to be getting a little better, Yang looked over to the scroll that was on the coffee table, she looked over to her sister before remembering what Tai said but Yang wasn't sure if she should or not because she could get in a lot of trouble so she decided against it, she'll only tell him if she doesn't wake up by tomorrow
Taiyang had returned home and noticed Yang eating some food as she looked over to Ruby who seemed asleep
"Hey Yang," Tai said to her eldest daughter as he entered the house, he noticed Ruby on the couch and asked, "She tucker herself out ?" Which the reply he got was a nod
"We were running after each other and she got too tired," Yang lied as she sat on the end of the couch and kept an eye on her sister with a worried look in her eyes, her dad just furrowed his eyebrow but didn't ask any further
"Well I'm gonna go make us some dinner, she'll probably wake up by then," He assured and went to the kitchen to start to cook
Ruby had slept through the night and the early morning, Yang was getting more concerned as Tai had concern start to grow on him as he had moved his youngest daughter to her room and his eldest daughter had slept with her out of concern
Ruby had groaned as she slowly woke up, 'Where am I ?' She thought as she looked around groggily and as she starts to wake up she widened and looked over at Yang who was sleeping, she started to breathe a little heavy and smiled widely and teared up a little, "I'm finally back home," She whispered with relief and hugged her sister tightly which caused her to wake up
"Ruby ?" Yang said groggy and confused as she was surprised with the sudden hug from her 8-year-old sister, she noticed the tears that were in her eyes
"I'm back, I'm home," she whispered in her chest as she gets off her and smiled as widely as she could like she hasn't seen her in years, she looked up at Yang and continued to hug her
Tai had walked in the room and saw Ruby hugging her sister tight which he just smiled at and leaned on the doorframe
Four years had passed since that incident and to say Ruby had changed would be an understatement but we'll get into that later as we see our now 13-year-old Signal first year was in combat training with her class with Uncle Qrow
"Alright, today we're going to do something a little different, and it's quite simple yet important," He began as the class was starting to get a little excited as he continued, "We'll be doing some sparring matches," The kids cheer as Ruby stayed silent which Qrow took note of
Ruby got chosen for the first match and was looking for a weapon she could use since she was still designing her huntress weapon until her eyes glanced on a rifle which she grabbed it and picked the gun up but it was a little heavier than she anticipated
'I need to develop my muscles,' She thought and walked to the training arena carrying the rifle that was similar to a rifle she had used back in the Commonwealth
Once she got to the arena the other student had gotten a transformable weapon, Ruby ready the gun as she readied for the fight to begin as she put on an expressionless face and waited
"Begin," Qrow said as the match had begun
The other student had begun to charge at Ruby she didn't do anything but stand, she felt time slow as V.A.T.S had activated, the ravenette saw her combatants limbs and put emphasize on the arms and legs, to her time was still slowed as she fired dust rounds and saw that the belligerent's aura go down and when she finished using V.A.T.S she rushed and sidestepped and used the buttstock of her rifle to hit the back of the belligerents head with the butt of her rifle, they fell on the floor passed out and she stood tall
She put a finger on her chin and thought, 'Maybe I should've gone easy on him,' Then she looked at the other students and her uncle, who was clapping
"That's a good fight although I did find it interesting that you didn't choose a transformable weapon," Commented Qrow
"Well it takes time even for a few seconds for the weapon to transform, time is everything and even if it's a few seconds could mean you staying amongst the living or having a good dirt nap 6ft under," Ruby replied normally although it made some of the student's spines shiver and concerned her uncle although he didn't show it
"Well anyways get back to the others," Qrow said which she nodded and went over to the students, as she walks she glances over to her uncle and she has a small smile on her face
'Even after being here for a few years, I still can't get used to everything here on Remnant,' She thought to herself
I know it seems a little confusing but I'll try to explain in a later chapter and the first maybe three chapters will take place before the show begins
