"Welcome, students, to the Academy of the Gifted! This year, we're working together with the nearby University to bring the best experience and business connections possible. We are excited to have you all!" the man on the auditorium stage said.

Danny blinked and shook his head to clear his thoughts, although he couldn't quite remember what he had been thinking about beforehand. He sighed and leaned back in his seat, his hand sliding down his face.

It was ridiculous, his parents sending him here. A boarding school for gifted students? Sure, for Jazz, maybe. But not him. He.. Well he got good enough grades, but that didn't really warrant an invitation to a fancy school. Danny was at least glad that uniforms weren't a part of the deal.

He'd been doing well enough in school, at least regarding science. His parents may have been regarded as morons for their field of work, but they didn't negate the doctorates or degrees or.. Whatever, they'd earned. Naturally, Danny was bound to pick up on some stuff, their lab being in the basement.

He didn't pay a whole lot of attention to the guy presenting and telling the new students all about the school, but whatever, it didn't matter. He wasn't particularly excited to be here anyway. If he didn't know the school, then he'd have an excuse to be late for class. Er.. Did it count as an excuse if it was true? Probably.

After what seemed like ages, the orientation was over and everyone was dismissed. He picked up his bag from under his seat and slung it over his shoulder, taking out the schedule he'd been given by the lady in the front office. He read his first class - Homeroom with Ms. McKinley, room 103- and glared at the sheet of paper as if it had personally offended him. He had absolutely no idea where that was. Maybe he should've paid a little more attention to the layout of the school.

Apparently, he stood in the hallway for an odd amount of time, staring at the paper, because someone tapped his shoulder.

He was a boy, maybe an inch shorter than Danny, with black hair that had a single blue streak running down the front. He wore a white collared shirt with a red vest over it, two lighter red stripes down the side.

"Do you need help finding your classroom?" he asked.

"Yeah.. I have no idea where I'm going. Or where I am," Danny admitted.

"Just outside the auditorium," the boy said.

Danny shot him a deadpan look and he laughed.

"I'm Varian. I've been here for a couple years, so I know the school pretty well. Or at least the science department. You are a part of the scientific student base, right? I just guessed," he said. He gestured to Danny's NASA shirt.

"Good guess," Danny said. "I'm Danny."

Varian held out his hand. "Can I see your schedule?"

"Here," Danny said, handing over the paper.

He read through it, nodding every now and then. "We have homeroom, third hour, lunch, and eighth hour together. I can find you after second and seventh and show you where they are?"

"That would be nice," Danny said. "What about everything else?"

"My best advice is to find someone else who's got those classes with you. Sorry I can't really help you there," Varian said.

"It's alright," Danny said. "We should probably be going though, right?"

"Right!" Varian said. "Follow me."

Honey Lemon waved at various students as she walked down the halls, whether she knew them or not. She didn't actually attend the Academy, but she'd been asked to be a teaching assistant for one of the art teachers.

She knew how to properly balance her work and free time, so she willingly said yes. She was confident that she'd be able to stay relatively stress free while holding the assistant job and her assignments from the college she actually attended.

She had gone here before her graduation nearly a year prior, so she knew her way around well. She'd been somewhat of a teacher's pet, so they allowed her a lot of free time, which gave her time to explore the school.

There were some cool tunnels underneath, from before the school's big renovation about twenty years ago. They renovated again the year she graduated after some students started a fire. Honey Lemon, while helping out with clearing out the debris, had found them and had explored them excitedly.

She ducked into the art classroom and took in the familiar sights. The paint stained on tables and walls, the ceiling tiles decorated by students of previous years, the posters and projects done by the students of years past. It was so wonderful and nostalgic being back here, and suddenly she felt like a freshman again, working on her very first project.

"Good morning," Mr. Dean nodded at her warmly.

"Good morning! It's so good to be back," she grinned.

"I'm sure it is, Miss Rodriguez. It's good to have you back as well," Mr. Dean said.

"So! What's our lesson plan for today?"

"Take a look."

He handed her a clipboard, the paper in it detailing their projects for the day. She didn't get the chance to look over it properly before Mr. Dean spoke.

"As a forewarning, I'll have a girl in my class who was kidnapped and isolated as a child. She was returned to her parents over the summer, but is likely to have difficulty being social due to her past. As such, she'll be accompanied by an emotional support animal," he said.

"Oh! That's alright," Honey Lemon said. "I'll do my best to help her!"

"I know you will," Mr. Dean smiled.

Honey Lemon went over the plans for the day and recognized several of the things on the list were things she had done as a student here, so she'd be familiar with how to do them.

Soon enough, the first bell rang and students filtered into the classroom. The second bell rang as Honey Lemon and Mr. Dean walked up to the whiteboard. A brunette girl with bright green eyes and a purple dress burst in almost immediately after. She had a green chameleon on her shoulder. She didn't seem out of breath from her quick entrance, but her cheeks were lightly dusted pink.

"Sorry! I got lost," she said.

"It's quite alright, Miss Moore. Please, have a seat," Mr. Dean said. She did, greeting the others at her table quietly.

"Now, I know there are quite a few of you who know me, however there are just as many of you who do not. There are even less of you who know my assistant. For those of you who don't know me, I'm Mr. Ulric Dean, and I'll be your teacher," Mr. Dean said. He wrote his name on the board.

"And you can call me Honey Lemon or any variation on it! I'm the teaching assistant this year. It's lovely to meet you all," she said. She wrote her nickname on the board and drew a little smiley face afterwards.

She heard some huffs at her demeanor and some snickering at her name from some boys in the back (she just knew they'd call her Honey and nothing else) but she pretended not to notice.

"Our first project is a self portrait. You'll be drawing yourself with colored pencils. It doesn't need to be absolutely perfect, just do your best. You'll have the week in class to finish it and at the end of the year, you'll be redrawing it," Mr. Dean said.

Honey Lemon passed out the appropriate supplies -paper, pencils, colored pencils, a mirror- and sat down at one of the tables with an empty seat, the one the girl from earlier sat down at. She technically had the option to do a portrait of herself, but she wanted to get to know her students a bit better. She recognized that this was probably the girl Mr. Dean had told her about, with the chameleon playing with the stand on her mirror, climbing up and down it and getting familiar with the table.

"So, you guys know who I am, tell me about yourselves!" Honey Lemon said.

"I like to draw?" one of the boys said.

"Ok! That's.. A start! Anyone else?" She asked.

"Oh! I have a ton of hobbies, like painting and baking, and I even tried candle making a couple times," the girl said.

"That's so cool! I've never made candles before," Honey Lemon said.

"Yeah, it's really fun! Mixing all the colors together to get new colors was so cool, and I carved a neat night sky pattern into one of them," she smiled.

"Really? Did it turn out well?" Honey Lemon asked.

"Yeah! I think I still have it somewhere, actually," the girl said.

"I bought some fall scented candles at a thrift store once. They were very small," another person at the table added to the conversation.

Their conversation continued pleasantly, going from candles, to favorite summer activities, and then to sea glass. Honey Lemon eventually learned the girl's name was Rapunzel and her chameleon was Pascal.

Honey Lemon went to check on some other tables about a half hour in, giving advice, answering questions, making conversation, and learning names. Soon enough, the period was over and they all had to move onto their next classes. Although, Rapunzel's actions stuck out a little in her mind. She seemed relatively well adjusted to social interaction, despite being isolated almost her entire life. But that wasn't the only thing, the other students seemed… Off. She eventually chalked it up to it being the first day back at school after the summer.

Astrid picked up her water bottle and drank from it, breaths heavy. It was nearly the end of fifth period, gym, and the coach had definitely upped the ante of his courses over the summer. She was done for the day, as they were cycling through teams for a game and wouldn't have enough time for her team to cycle back in. They were winning, by five points. She was very proud of herself, because she'd scored the most of all her team.

The girl who'd scored the next most, second by only a single point, had wild red hair and a nice blue theme to her clothes. She was just as worn out as Astrid was, opting to sprawl over the bleachers overlooking the field instead of doing the cool down stretches Astrid had gotten used to doing after workouts.

It was still mid September, still hot enough to add to the exhaustion outside, and the coach had indeed decided to have class outside. Why he'd do that was beyond Astrid, but at least it was a nice day.

"Nice job out there," Astrid said to the redhead.

She sat up to look at her and smiled a bit. "Thanks. But next time, don't expect to have the highest point score. I will."

Her accent was Scottish, although not too far off from the accents of Astrid's home town, Berk, so she hardly noticed.

"Oh? If you're so sure, let's keep a tally. Whoever has the most individual points at the end of the quarter wins," Astrid said, holding out a hand.

"You're on," the girl said. "Loser has to buy the winner ice cream?"

"Probably more like some sort of pie or tart or something because the end of the quarter is in the middle of fall, but yeah, those are some stakes I can get behind," Astrid said.

The girl rolled her eyes, although her overall demeanor was friendly. "I'm Merida."

"Astrid."

"What do you think the rankings are?" Merida asked, referring to the two teams playing now.

"Ours in first, green in second, purple third, and orange fourth," Astrid predicted.

"Orange is failing miserably, sure, but purple's in second right now. Green will be third," Merida said.

"I think orange will make a comeback," a third person added.

"Oh sh-" Astrid started.

Merida yelped and threw a nearby stick at the guy in surprise.

He, in turn, made a noise of distress and dodged the stick. "Man, I didn't think they were that bad."

"Don't you dare sneak up like that again," Merida scolded.

"I wasn't sneaking. You just didn't hear me," he said.

"Same difference," Merida said.

Despite the hot weather, he was in a faded blue hoodie. He had white hair and bright blue eyes. Astrid hadn't noticed before, but he had a stick of his own. This one was, admittedly, more clean and polished looking than the one Merida had thrown at him. Less likely to stab the holder with splinters, at the least.

"It's really not," he said.

"You aren't one of the students that are supposed to be out here," Astrid said.

"Nope!" he said. "I don't even go here. They just let me roam the campus and I felt like being outside."

"Wearing that?" Merida asked, referring to the warm looking hoodie.

He shrugged. "Extreme temperatures don't really do much to me. Here, feel my hand."

He held out his hand. Astrid looked at him apprehensively but he persisted. She felt his hand and it was cold to the touch.

"Woah," Merida said, just as surprised as Astrid was.

"I know, I'm so cool," the boy said.

The girls groaned. "You should be put to jail for that awful pun," Merida said.

"He'd have to have a trial first," Astrid pointed out.

"He'd be convicted," Merida deadpanned.

"Oh that's cold," he said.

"Oh my gods."

"Stop that, it's awful."

He grinned and laughed. The coach blew his whistle, getting everyone's attention away from their individual conversations.

"Alright, back inside! Head to the locker rooms and then to class," the coach commanded.

Everyone followed his instructions and pulled their things together.

"Walk back together?" Astrid asked Merida.

"Sure," Merida answered.

"And see you around," Astrid said, turning to the boy.

"Of course," he said.

"It's been fun, sweater weather," Merida said.

"Sweater weather?" Astrid asked, walking back to the building.

"Because he's cold and insists on wearing the hoodie. And we didn't get his name," Merida said.

"Good point, what is your-" Astrid turned around, back to where she thought the boy was. "Name?"

He wasn't there anymore. She searched for him among the crowd of students, but even if he was there, there were too many people to pick him out.

"That's weird," Merida said.

"It is indeed," Astrid agreed.

Hello! Thank you all for reading! I'm sorry if anyone is out of character here, this is my first time playing with any of these characters aside from Danny. Please let me know if anything is incorrect! I know some of the characters don't have last names, so if that was the case, I just gave them their voice actor's last name.
As for ships:

Ships that I will most likely be using:

Eugene/Rapunzel/Cassandra

Astrid/Hiccup

Ships I wont be using:

Danny/Sam

Hiro/Karmi (As much as I like Karmi, she won't have a role here, or at least not a big one)

...Whatever's going on with Ruffnut's apparent harem...

anything unspecified is uncertain. I definitely won't be using any minor/adult ships, so please don't ask for them. The aging up/down of the characters here doesn't matter. No spoilers, but this isn't the AU that it looks like. But, please do suggest other ships or even pairings that aren't from the same universe! Although, as a warning, I headcanon Merida as aro/ace so unless I see your suggestion for her and think its brilliant, I probably won't use it.
