Chapter 18- Spiked Punch
Liv held her hand over her mouth, trying not to laugh. It wasn't the costume that was so funny. It was the face of her friend wearing it. Roxanne stood in front of Liv zipped into a tight black leather body suit, cat ears and a mask pulled back, resting on her forehead.
Roxanne's expression was deadly. She had her eyes narrowed and looked severely uncomfortable as the suit squeaked when she moved, crossing her arms over her chest. Liv herself, sat cross-legged on the bed. At the moment, she was in a long silvery blue dress, with a quiver and bow slung across her back. She had her hair in a long braid down her back. To complete the look, she had little plastic caps on her ears to make them look pointed at the tops. Her current test outfit was a Muggle representation of an elf. Which though inaccurate, Liv found very beautiful.
Roxanne narrowed her eyes further at her friend and Liv wondered how she managed to still see. She grinned back.
"I'm not going as cat woman, Liv"
"Why ever not? You look great" Liv sniggered.
Rox glared some more, "No Liv. Youlook great, I on the other hand look like some sort of underage dominatrix"
Liv snorted. She couldn't convincingly disagree when Rox had given her such a great description.
"Fine" she conceded, "Let's see what else the box has to offer..."
"Ooh" Liv began, pulling out a wonder woman costume to which Roxanne immediately disagreed.~
Two outfit changes later, Liv sat on the bed. This time sporting Rox's rejected wonder woman suit. She liked it but wasn't confident enough to wear it beyond the safety of the dorm. She had decided to stick with the elven look but still continued to try on new ones with Roxanne. Rox stood now in a skimpy Wilma Flintstone outfit shaking her head. Liv chuckled and turned back to the box, rummaging for new options. The box had come from Melanie, who, when Liv had written saying neither girls had an outfit had taken it upon herself to collect, gather and send an entire wardrobe's worth of choices for them to both choose from.
As the girls were roughly the same height and sizes, they could both pick anything from what was sent. Liv reached into the box again, closing her eyes. She pulled out a piece of brown piece of material. It was suede-like and had tassels hanging off.
"Oh Merlin! Rox this is perfect."
Both girls recognised the outfit straight away, having shared a childhood love for muggle movies, stories and TV shows. Rox hummed thoughtfully and Liv took that positively, she hadn't quite said no…~
The last day before the holidays always held a certain excited buzz in the air; Scorpius had always loved the feeling of it as he walked through the grounds. The fact that it was the day of the Halloween Ball only amplified the atmosphere; he overheard snapshots of conversations throughout the day, concerning dates, dances and costumes. He had a costume but was yet to find a date. Ly had told him to get a move on, what with their group being split this year, and the fact that Ly supposedly had a date. Scorpius had been warned he would be going alone if he didn't find someone, and fast. He realised that asking a girl on the day was a bit stupid and probably arrogant, but he had no choice really. What else could he do?
He decided to abstain from lunch and go over his options. There was a Slytherin girl in his Muggle studies class that had a habit of staring at him whenever she thought he wasn't looking. She was pretty and quite smart- he supposed he could ask her. Only problem was he knew no more about her than her name. Even that he wasn't one hundred percent sure of, Martha…Matilda… Mary…Morgan?
He sat in the common room in the usual spot that would be occupied by he and his friends, they were all at lunch so it was just him. He was leaning back into the material with his eyes closed, thinking.
Scarlett, Arianna and Lena had walked over and sat on the couch opposite to him. He could hear them all discussing the Ball and was half listening to their conversation, half thinking about his own predicament.
"You have to go!" he heard Lena sigh.
"Well, I'm not going with Alistair now so what's the point?" Arianna replied shortly. If he remembered correctly Alistair was Ari's Hufflepuff boyfriend.
"But everyone is going Ari!"
"The only thing worse than not going, would be going alone. He is not going to see me turn up alone after I dumped him, ergo, I don't go" she reasoned.
"So ask someone?" Scarlett suggested.
Scor's ears pricked up at the last few sentences. Maybe he could ask Arianna? They spoke enough for it to not be weird and could just go as friends.
"No way am I asking someone and having it get back to him that I did so. Sorry guys, as much as I want to go…I'm not letting him think he's won"
"There must be some way you'd go Ari" Lena pleased.
"Unless, by some miracle a guy asks me to go with them by the evening, I'm not going. Sorry Lena"
He sat up from his laid back position, "Hey Ari, couldn't help but hear you were looking for a miracle"
He smirked uncontrollably at her and she rolled her eyes before he even said anything else.~
The three friends sat on the couch in the common room, waiting. They had all been ready for the past half an hour. Admittedly, it hadn't taken much for them to be that way. As they had originally planned to go as a group, the boys had chosen matching costumes. Luckily, even if they separated off they wouldn't look stupid. They all sat, lounging about the common room in probably the most comfortable possible costumes; bright orange Muggle-style prison jumpsuits. The only difference in the costumes were the numbers across their chests, which matched their Quidditch team numbers.
As they waited, Ravenclaw girls of all ages came down the stairs, greeting their dates and leaving the common room for the Hall downstairs. Apparently, the boys' dates weren't as quick at getting ready, because none of the three had appeared yet. They were starting to give up hope when they heard light footsteps on the stairs. It was Lena, who descended and walked over to her date, heading for the door with him. They boys turned in dismay when they realised she wasn't one of theirs. Though at the last moment, Lena turned and waved at the entrance to the dorm stairs, shouting goodbye. The boys turned away from the dwindling fire and looked over at the person she had waved to. It was Roxanne.
She was in a one-shouldered light brown dress with large tassels over the bust and along the bottom. The dress seemed to form a triangular shape at the base and hugged her figure, going in at the waist, highlighted by a tan belt. A blue necklace sat across her collarbones and a silver pendant hung from it. The first thing Scorpius noticed was her hair, which usually long, seemed even longer now, dead straight and coloured black. The second thing he noticed was her makeup, which wasn't something she usually wore. She had dark, pencilled eyes, lightly rosy cheeks and her red lips looked even fuller than normal. He smiled.
She smiled as she spotted sight of the boys, skipping over to them in little tasselled ankle boots.
"Great costumes guys" she grinned.
"You think?" Lorcan asked.
"We don't look too stupid do we?" Ly continued.
"No more than usual, Ly" she smiled sweetly and tugged on the bottom of her dress without realising. "The girl's will be about another ten minutes" she then in formed them.
Scorpius and Ly groaned.
"Why do you females take so long?" Ly asked exasperatedly. He was taking Cassie to the Ball and though she was in the year above Rox and Liv she had come to their dorm to get ready with them.
"I have no idea Ly. I was ready 20 minutes ago but then Liv attacked me with the eyeliner"
"I got bored of sitting up there while they fussed, so I'm here. But you guys don't seem to be any more interesting" she mock sighed and Scor threw a pillow at her. She caught it and returned it, quicker than he expected, getting him in the face.
"That's my seeker!" Ly cheered, adding, "Nice catch Weasley. Poor work though Malfoy, I think I need a new chaser"
"That's it Scamander, you're not on the pitch now!"
Scor stood and leaped across the small space of flooring at Ly, pillow in hand. He swung it above his head and brought it into Ly's face as he hit. Both boys toppled backwards in the armchair, laughing as they wrestled in their jumpsuits.
Roxanne looked on in amusement and Lorcan laughed along, before jumping in and joining the fray.
"Erherm" Rox coughed at the boys as she looked up from them to find their dates standing at the bottom of the stairs. They paused and looked upwards, sheepish grins as if they had been caught doing something wrong. They stood and brushed themselves down, straightening out their jumpsuits with dignity.
Lorcan looked nervous as he looked up at Liv, she stood still with a small smile on her face. Her dress showed of her curvy but slim figure. She had ditched the quiver and bow from earlier and gone for the more formal-elven look. She had her hair down, with magical extensions to lengthen it; it hung to the small of her back and was kept out of her face by an intricate silver headdress that sat across her crown. She blushed when her eyes met his and smiled at him warmly.
"You look amazing" he breathed. Ly wolf whistled and she returned it with a quick hand gesture paying no further attention to the twin of her crush.
"Not so bad yourself, Scamander." She grinned, blushing again addressing Lorcan.
He smiled, filling with confidence at her approval, he held out his hand, "Ready?"
"Duh." She took his hand and they walked toward the door, waving goodbye to the remaining group.
Lysander turned his attention to his own date, walking over to her and linking his arm with hers. He began to march her off and their arguments followed them out of the room, most probably about his lack of etiquette, "You knew what I was like when you said yes, Callie!"
That left only Ari, Rox and Scor. He stood a little awkwardly, not knowing if he should complement his date, considering they were barely dates. He did anyway, she deserved it.
"You look great Ari" he smiled at her and looked her up and down appreciatively. Being more daring, and eager to show her ex what he was missing, she was wearing the wonder woman costume Roxanne had forsaken. It hugged her womanly figure just as it should and Roxanne found herself wishing she looked half as good Ari did, even half of the time.
"Thanks Scor. Now, it's your job to be absolutely charming tonight, I need to show Alistair he was a fool"
"Are you trying to get him back?" Roxanne asked her friend; she wasn't exactly clear on Ari's relationship ending as it had only happened that morning.
"Nope" she popped the 'p' and grinned, "I just want to make him regret it, is all"
She took Scorpius by the arm and began to lead him out. He paused and turned to Rox, "Want us to wait?"
"No it's fine. Logan should be here soon" she smiled at him waved at them both, sighing a little as she watched Ari leave on his arm. ~
She stood outside the Ravenclaw doors, as Logan wouldn't be able to get in. A few minutes later she spotted him walking towards her. He walked up and hugged her immediately; she squeaked a little as he lifted her up off the ground.
He put her down quickly and smiled, "Sorry, a bit too into character I guess"
She smiled at his outfit. He was superman for the night and he looked amazing. The suit was tight across his chest and his muscles stood out more prominently than she had ever seen them, he literally was the embodiment of a hero, tall, strong and handsome. And technically he'd just swept her off her feet.
"You look gorgeous Rox" he smiled down at her and offered his arm. She took it and together they walked off towards the Great Hall. ~
Roxanne walked off and away from the dance floor with a flushed face, she had left Logan sitting on one of the nearby tables and had promised to come back with drinks. As she approached the punch bowl, she noticed a figure she recognised, her brother.
He was standing with Elliott, looking shifty. She walked up from behind them both and put her hands suddenly on his shoulders, "Gotcha'!".
He jumped and Elliott laughed, having seen her coming but keeping quiet.
"What'cha doin'?" she enquired, pushing her way past her sibling towards the table.
"Spiking the punch of course" Elliott responded, winking at her. He ladled her out a cup, "You want some?"
"Hey, El that's my little sister" Fred complained as he took the cup out of his friend's hand before it reached Rox and downed it himself. He winced slightly as the Firewhiskey burned his throat.
"Looks like you boys added a bit much" she chuckled.
"Can't be. I worked it out" Elliott ladled himself a cup and took a gulp. He too, winced a little.
"Hm. Freddie, we're going to need more syrup" Fred nodded.
"Syrup?" Roxanne asked as Fred pulled back his jacket and searched it's inner pockets.
"Yeah, we just add fruit syrup and then a little wand water, genius really. No need to carry juice and the punch tastes the same"
"Let me guess. Dad taught you?"
"Yup" he grinned, pouring a vial of orange coloured liquid into the bowl, the colour of the Halloween punch, he used an Augamenti to balance it out. He then took another taste and passed the cup to his friend. They grinned and hi-fived.
"Perfect. That should get this party started"
She shook her head with a smile as she ladled out two cups, for her and Logan. Fred didn't seem to notice them in her hand as she spoke to him.
"So, where's James? Is he not in on your holiday fun?"
Fred frowned before he answered her. Then he pointed over to a dimly lit corner of the Hall. Rox couldn't make out people, only bodies and a pink flashing light.
"He's over there, snogging Samantha no doubt, that light is her tail" he sighed.
"Tail?"
"She's a bunny" Elliott offered, sounding slightly disgusted as he said it.
"Oh"
"Yeah, James has been a bit preoccupied lately…" Fred said distantly, Rox put her cups down to hug her brother from the side. He placed an arm over her shoulder, quickly recovering from his sudden sadness and pulling her closer into his side. He held her there and looked down at her from his considerable height with his head slanted.
"So, who are you with tonight little sis?" he raised an eyebrow and in response Rox kept her mouth shut.
Elliott laughed, "Oh Merlin, is Rox with a boy? James, your little sister is with a boyyyy" he ruffled his friend's hair.
"Shut up El. Liv didn't come in alone so I wouldn't talk if I were you" he said, keeping an arm around Rox but addressing his friend over his shoulder.
"Who's my baby sister with Roxy? Who do I have to get rid of?" Elliott asked, joining Fred with his arm around her so she was squished between them. They both peered down at her, eyebrows raised; waiting for answers.
She turned to Fred first, "I'm here with Logan, no we're not dating, and no you can't speak to him" then she turned to Elliott, she smiled at the smug expression he was giving his friend, "Yes, Liv is also with a boy, and no I won't tell you who. You can ask her"
"The guy who hit you with a bludger? And you expect me to do nothing?!" Fred asked when after a delay as he worked out where he had heard the name before. Rox ducked out from between them both and turned to them.
"Fred" she warned, "Stay out of it. You too, El." She added and Elliott poked his tongue out. He was more easy-going and would probably leave Olivia to it. Fred on the other hand had begun to take his big brother role to heart and was determined to act accordingly.
"Please Freddie" she stepped closer and wrapped her arms around his waist; he stroked her head and kissed the top of it before conceding.
"Fine, I'll leave him for a while longer" he grinned at her and she smiled back up at him.
It was the best she would get.
She slipped out from his arms and picked up the cups. "Thanks for the drinks, guys. Let's just hope you both keep your word… or McGonagall might notice the punch"
"You wouldn't…" Fred began, eyes narrowed.
"Oh?" she raised both brows and grinned. She turned and walked back towards the crowd, spiked punch in hand. ~
As the night had gone on to a close, Roxanne had remained on the dance floor with Logan. She had no idea how he had managed to coerce her onto it at the beginning of the evening. She usually avoided dancing as much as possible, feeling clumsy and out of place. It had gotten better over the course of the night though and she had even gone off to dance with her friends. Right now, she was twirling around the dance floor with Liv. They had both had a few cups of the punch each and neither had a particularly high tolerance; or any tolerance at all really.
Rox's drinking experience was limited to a few nights in the company of her favourite older cousin and her cousin's friends but she had always been given sobering solutions by Dominique before she went to bed. So, as the girls spun around, giggling, it was clear that they weren't entirely sober. Logan was sitting by the punch table talking to a few friends and Lorcan was with Ly getting some food. Liv let go of Rox's hand and she twirled freely bumping into Arianna who was dancing with Scor.
"Woah there Liv, you okay?" Arianna asked her.
"Oh Ari! I didn't know you were here! Danccceee with me!" she gasped gleefully, proceeding to spin away, dragging the other girl with her, who just laughed and went along.
"Liv!" Rox called sadly as the other witch twirled off.
"I'm dancing with Ari, you should dance with someone too Rox!" Liv called from where she was now moving with the wonder woman of the night.
Rox searched around for Logan but couldn't see him. She spotted Scor who had just been abandoned by Ari and skipped over to him; maybe he would dance with her!
"Dance with me Scorpiuss!" she slurred his name and stumbled into him a little.~
Scorpius turned at the sound of his name and the feel of a body hitting his, he had just been marvelling at the speed at which Liv had managed to drag his date away. Scor caught Roxanne at the elbows and she wrapped her arms around his neck. He automatically placed his hands on her waist and began to sway with her; despite her and Liv's manic twirling, the music was quite slow.
Roxanne rested her head on his chest and they began to actually dance to the music, which had been winding down for a while now.
He was staring at a fairy light, his eyes not focusing, it becoming a tiny blur as he rested his chin on her head.
She had closed her eyes, "Hmm, this is nice" she muttered.
He heard her and suddenly realised she wasn't here with him; she was here with someone else. He detached her linked hands from behind his neck and took a small step back, not even knowing how long they had been dancing so close for.
"Aw, Scor. Why won't you dance with me?" she looked up into his eyes and held his gaze, her eyes looked sad and he regretted the step away from her.
"I am, look, we're dancing" he brought one of her hands up and twirled it around, letting her spin in front of him. Rox laughed childishly as she spun and fell into his chest, she stood still and looked up at him again.
"Your eyes are pretty Scor" she said, noting the way they shimmered in the low light of the hall.
He chuckled, "So are yours Rox" he said, looking back into hers, which held a wide, innocent look her pupils dilated, swallowing up more hazel than usual.
She giggled, "You think so?"
He couldn't help but chuckle at seeing her this way, so free and unhesitant, "Yeah I do"
He peeled her off him and spun her again, this time, walking her slowly towards Lorcan and Liv, who he could see sitting over at a table. Liv was sitting on a chair leaning forwards over her knees and Lorcan was rubbing circles onto her back. Clearly, Liv had swapped dance partners again. Scorpius led Rox to a chair and sat her in it carefully. He walked to Lorc and crouched next to Liv.
"She's been sick" Lorcan told him. Scor shifted his feet, looking at the ground.
"I've vanished it, stupid" Lorcan grinned.
"Anyway, I'm going to have to take her back now. Are you bringing Rox? I can't deal with them both if one decides to throw up"
"Sure"
"Hey, Rox" Scorpius called to her across the table. She had been moving around the tiny pumpkin shaped confetti that covered the table, his voice caught her attention and she came over to him, managing to stay mostly upright. He stood, as did Lorcan. Together they helped Liv up and she groaned, murmuring about her head. Lorcan took Liv's hand and began to usher her towards the doors of the Hall. Scorpius pulled Roxanne along with them.
"Hey, Malfoy!" the group turned at the voice and watched as Logan approached them.
Scorpius groaned and Lorcan rolled his eyes, seeing the complication.
Liv tugged on Lorcan. "Lorc, I need to lie down" she groaned, not so drunk that she wasn't aware of where she was and that she needed a bed.
"Go on, take her up and wait for us in the common room. We'll be there soon"
"You sure?"
"Yeah, go on"
"Okay, see you in a bit. Good Luck mate" Lorc nodded and he and Liv walked off and towards the Ravenclaw Tower.
Logan reached the couple and Scorpius spoke before the other boy had the chance to.
"She's had a little too much to drink; I'm going to take her back to the Tower" he stated.
"What was that, Malfoy?"
"Oh Logan! There you are!" Roxanne cooed after a delay, where she had been looking over his face intently. She tripped over as she tried to step towards Logan. Scorpius had to catch her again and she smiled up at him gratefully, forgetting her journey towards her actual date.
"You see? I'm taking her back now, okay?"
"No it's not okay really." Logan replied, harshly.
"Well it wasn't really a question" Scorpius replied, his calm tone contrasting to Logan's.
"She's my date; I'll look after her."
"Look, Logan. Her older brother and cousins are just off to the side over there, now, how do you think they'd react if someone told them you wanted to keep their baby Roxanne down here while she was still drunk and vulnerable instead of escorting her back to her House to sleep it off? What is it, did you not get a kiss yet?"
"No, Malfoy. I did get a kiss, when she was sober in fact, so it's fine. Take her back, I'll see her tomorrow. But don't think it's because of your threat about her brother, because I don't believe for a second they would prefer you over me when it's obvious I'm not the only one interested in her" he sneered and walked away.
Scorpius ignored his comment about being interested in her and put an arm around Rox's shoulders and steered her towards the door. She leaned into his shoulder and seemed to take a deep breath in through her nose.
He chuckled silently. How drunk was she, that she was smelling him?
"Where are we going Scor?"
"We're going back to the common room now"
"Are you taking me there?"
"Yes Roxy, I'm taking you there."
"Good" she mumbled and walked along with him, her eyes half shut.~
Logan walked over to the punch table and grabbed the ladle, pouring himself another serving. His friends were now all sitting over around one of the circular tables; they seemed to be playing some kind of drinking game with smuggled in Firewhiskey. The younger years had gone off to bed as had the professors and now the Hall consisted mostly of older students sitting around, chatting at tables before the holidays began. There were a few couples still dancing but not that many when compared to earlier. The band still played but they had become progressively slower and quieter.
As he downed his drink and reached again for the utensil, he felt a presence next to him. He looked up and recognised the figure as Fred Weasley. Taking his drink, he stepped to move away.
"Wait a sec" Logan groaned inwardly. He turned to face the boy and stood silently, waiting.
Fred poured himself a drink as he seemed to look Logan over, as if sizing him up. Logan wasn't scared of Fred but he did wonder if he would be able to win in a physical fight against him. Or a duel for that matter, it seemed Defence was an inherent strength in the Weasley-Potter population. Fred was taller than Logan but not as widely built. Though as a beater; a good one too, Logan knew Fred must be quite strong. Self-preservation instincts surfacing, Logan decided not to antagonise his current company. He was a Slytherin after all.
When Roxanne's big brother seemed to finish whatever assessment he had been making, he looked down at the Logan.
"So why did I just see my little sister walk off with Malfoy, when she came here with you?"
"He volunteered to take her back"
"And why would he do that?"
"He can get into the Ravenclaw common room and I can't, though good point. Maybe I should have taken her back to my dorm, instead." Logan couldn't help himself. He didn't have any patience for the big brother act.
Fred grabbed Logan's costume at the front and brought him closer. Logan was on the tips of his feet, just keeping contact with the ground.
"Listen here, Williams. That's my little sister you're talking about, so watch your mouth. Now, I promised her I wouldn't get involved in your relationship and she insisted you weren't even going out. But if you are, even if you're not, and you do anything, anything at all to hurt her. Or even upset her. If I ever see her cry; and you're the reason… " he took in a deep breath, as if pushing something back inside, "I promise you, there are ways I find you whenever I want and ways I can be sure you're in a corridor alone with no one around to hear you cry" Fred released Logan harshly and he staggered back more than he would have liked to. He regained his stature quickly, hoping no one had seen.
Before he spoke, Fred continued. "Oh and you won't tell her what I said to you or even that we spoke"
"Sure thing" he replied with sarcastic enthusiasm. Regaining his confidence he spoke a little louder, "But Weasley, ever thought you might be threatening the wrong person? After all, I'm not the one you saw your little sister walk off with now am I?" he smirked at the brown haired boy and finally returned to his friends.~
By the time Scorpius made it into the common room with Roxanne, Lorcan was sitting there alone.
"So she managed to take herself off to bed then?" he asked his friend as he released Roxy and she went straight to the long sofa. Sinking into the material, he heard Rox sigh.
"Yeah" Lorcan answered plainly.
Scorpius moved to sit with his friend, who was on the cushioned floorboards with his back resting on another sofa.
"What's up mate?" he enquired.
"Ah, nothing" Lorcan just shrugged, staring into the dying embers of the fire.
"Merlin, you're as bad as the girls. If they've taught me anything, it's that nothing is something"
"She kissed me" Lorcan blurted out.
"Great!" Scorpius clapped him on the shoulder grinning but then realised something had been wrong.
"Okay, so not great. Why?"
"She was drunk Scorp. She probably didn't know what she was doing. What if she wakes up and regrets it tomorrow? What if she wakes up and doesn't even remember it happened?"
What if she's angry at me? What if-"
"Woah, Lorcan. Slow down. One; she won't regret it, because she really likes you. Two, she's not so drunk that she won't remember the night, she might forget bits here and there but I'm sure she'll remember kissing her date for the first time. Three, you're the guy that cleaned up her vomit and took her back to bed, she won't be angry with you. There's no way. Anyway like you said, she kissed you, not the other way around. So, lighten up. Stop worrying and you can ask her on another date and she'll probably want another kiss."
Lorcan sighed. Scorpius grinned, he was right and they both knew it.
"Thanks mate"
"Anytime babe" Scor winked, ruffling his friend's hair and Lorcan punched him in response.
"Now what do we do with her?" Lorcan asked after a moment's silence, only seeming to just notice the fact that Roxanne was lying face up on the sofa, completely asleep.
"That's the second time she's fallen asleep on us this year" Scorpius replied, not looking at his friend but Roxanne instead.
Lorcan laughed. "We can't just leave her"
"I suppose we could wake her and she could go back to her dorm?"
"I don't feel like waking her up now, do you? Remember in second year wh-"
"We woke her up and she shot jinxes at us? Yes, I remember" they both shivered as if remembering the stinging jinxes they had suffered when they interrupted a nap suddenly.
"Bloody staircases. We could have just put her to bed by now" Lorcan complained.
"I suppose we could put her in one of our beds?" he suggested, really meaning Lor's.
"Mine's out of the equation, I haven't changed my sheets this week!" Lorcan exclaimed as loudly as he dared with Roxanne lying a few feet away.
"You want her to wake up in a dorm full of boys?" Scorpius asked, characteristic eyebrow raised.
"It'll only be you and Ly. I saw Zach leave with Em pretty early on so I put a sickle on it he's down in the dungeons for the night. Toby said he's be with Sara too so they're out."
"How do you know more about the guys in my dorm than I do?" Scorpius mused, having been unaware of his friends' late night plans.
"I actually pay attention when people speak"
"What?"
"I said I act- oh. Ha Ha. Hilarious, Malfoy" Lorcan responded, sarcasm practically dripping off his tongue.
Scorpius smirked at his own joke. "Fine. So I put her in my bed. Where do I sleep?"
"On Zach's bed?" Lorcan joked. "The floor, genius"
"Wait. Why can't we just leave her on the sofa?"
"Because it's the last night of term"
"So?" he asked, one eyebrow raised in question.
"So… People will be leaving for the train early in the morning and Roxy will wake up with a hangover and splitting head as it is. She doesn't need the extra noise"
"Ah. I see. But if she complains about being there it's on you, Mr-I-haven't-changed-my-sheets"
"Sure" Lorcan agreed. "Need any help carrying her up?"
"No I got her" he replied, moving to stand over Roxanne, deciding which way was best to carry her.
"Actually, get the doors will you?"
Lorcan nodded and waited as Scorpius crouched next to the sofa. He eased his arms under her shoulders and the bend in her knees. Cradling her sleeping form to his chest, bridal style he followed Lorcan up the stairs to the boys' dorm.
She must have been deeply asleep because not once did she open her eyes as Scorpius climbed the stairs. He placed her on the bed and Lorcan waved goodbye, leaving the Scor and Rox alone. Scor wondered where Ly was. He didn't remember seeing him when they left the Hall. He took off her little shoes and pulled the covers from underneath her, putting them over her carefully. As Scorpius looked down at the sleeping girl he couldn't help but smile. Her eyes fluttered beneath her shimmering eyelids. It was still strange to see her in makeup but he remembered how the black line around her eyes had brought out the colour of her already beautiful irises and he couldn't complain. He moved a stray strand of straight black hair from her face and noted it seemed to be curling and lightening before his eyes, in fact her whole head of hair did. He smiled, realising it was turning back to normal- he preferred it that way.
Usually he slept shirtless, in just his boxers, but didn't want to scare Rox in the morning so he pulled out a white T-shirt and some black bottoms from his chest before going to the bathroom to change into them. He conjured some duvets for himself and laid them on the ground next to his bed. He'd have to be nearby to explain why she was where she was when she woke. Just before he settled down, he knelt next to her and pulled the covers up, tucking her in further, smiling at the slight curve of her lips as she slept. Her breath fanned across his face, warm and fruity from all the punch. He leant forwards and kissed the top of her head moving back to hunker down for the night. Her lids fluttered open at his touch and he cursed himself, she looked straight at him, seeing but obviously not processing where she was. Her hazel eyes were luminous in the soft light of his bedside lamp, he looked into them as they seemed to study him.
"Scorpius?" she asked softly, her voice still laced with sleep.
"Go to sleep Roxy" he whispered, stroking her hair until her eyes closed.~
A/N:
I hope you all enjoyed reading that as much as I enjoyed writing it.
[The site seems a bit new and updated and all my spacing went funny. Not sure if it's the update or just me but sorry about that.]
I liked drunk Roxy and loved overprotective Fred, hope it was believable enough!
Um.. here's the sad bit. I have exams coming up so I won't be able to post in quite a while, I should really be concentrating till they're over (late June) but to be fair I procrastinate a lot so may end up with a chapter out before then.
But yeah, just a warning. You might not hear from me for a while. Sorry.
Then again, the review today sort of spurred me on to finish and post this, so maybe you guys can persuade me ;)
Take care and DFTR,
Love Cookie xx
