Chapter 19- The Hangover and The Realisation

Roxanne woke up reluctantly. The sun was warming her face but she couldn't bring herself to open her eyes. She wanted to hold on to sleep a little while longer. She had slept wonderfully that night, not even tossing or turning like she tended to; she had had a lovely set of dreams too. She couldn't remember much about them, but the smile on her face as she woke assured her they were good. The only snippet of her dreams she could remember included Scorpius. She didn't know why she dreamt it but she remembered him kissing her on the head and telling her to sleep. It was strange, such a small part of her sub-conscious memory but she just remembered thinking about how soft his lips had been and how good he had smelled. In the dream, he smelled the same way as he usually did; musky and woody with a hint of something sweet Roxanne recognised but had never been able to identify. In fact, in the dream she remembered his scent being everywhere, she remembered feeling surrounded by it- she could almost smell it now. Roxanne inhaled, she could smell it now. Why could she smell him?

Her interest and confusion piqued, Roxanne sat up rubbing her eyes. Her head was throbbing, but in her curiosity, she ignored it. She opened her eyes expecting to see across to Scarlett's curtains drawn across but instead a figure walked into her view. It was neither Scarlett, nor female.

She gasped loudly and the figure whipped his head around, "What the hell?!" he cried, pulling the towel from off of his shoulders to cover his body, though he didn't know what to cover so just held up the towel, length ways in front of him.

Roxanne was very aware of the fact that she was staring directly at Zach – who had been topless, in nothing more than a pair of black boxers- but she couldn't comprehend why he was in the girls' dorm.

"Shit!" a voice to her left exclaimed and she looked down to see Scorpius sit upright from the floor beside her, also topless, scrambling for his bed post. She jumped back from his movement and exclamation. It dawned on her, Zach wasn't in the girls' dorm, Roxanne was in the boy's.

"What the fu-" she began.
"I'm so sorry Rox! I can explain. Just one sec!" he stood and pulled his wand out from under his pillow and flicked the curtains around his bed shut, enveloping her in darkness utter confusion and the delicious scent of him.~

Scorpius couldn't think of anything else to do. He had just been woken up by Zach's shout and quickly realised it wasn't just him and Ly with Rox as Lorcan had assured it would be. He did what first came to mind and sealed her in, the curtains falling around her. Scorpius stood and walked over to Zach who had obviously just come out of the shower, his hair wet and towel shielding him reflexively. He waved a quick muffilato around his bed so she wouldn't hear anything.

"What're you doing here? Lorcan told me you would be with Em"

Zach shook his head disbelievingly, "Yeah I was but she's going home for the holidays so I got kicked out early. I just came back and headed straight for the showers. What is she doing here?" he paused pulling on some jeans, "You know if any of them find out they'll go ballistic. You're just lucky it's me and not Toby who came back this morning"

Scorpius was confused for a second but then he remembered Toby was friends with Elliott, Liv's older brother so he hung out with Fred and James too on a regular basis.
"It's not like that. I mean… she- we. Nothing happened." Scorpius stuttered for an unknown reason.
"Whatever. You think Fred Weasley will care if he finds out his little sister was caught in Scorpius Malfoy's bed?" he emphasised his name, reminding Scorpius that he didn't exactly have a clear reputation when it came to girls in the castle, "Mate, it doesn't matter that you were on the floor. He'd put you in the hospital wing faster than you could swish that hair of yours." Zach smirked at him.
"She got drunk last night and crashed in the common room. Lorc wouldn't let her stay in his bed so it was here or the common room. I didn't think you'd be here mate. Sorry"

"Hey not a problem, Scor. Hopefully she'll tell everyone how Godly I look half naked and Em might get a bit jealous. I love it when she's jealous." He grinned and puckered his lips.

Scor laughed and shook his head, "I don't know how you got her Zach"
"I'm a magnet!" he shouted as he grabbed his T-shirt and pulled it on, leaving the dorm room.

Scorpius laughed and turned back to his bed, quickly undoing the spells and pulling the curtains open. As he did so he was met with a Roxanne shaped bulge under his duvet.
"You're not going back to sleep are you?"

He heard a muffled 'no' from underneath the covers and he chuckled. She was hung-over.

Carefully, so he didn't jostle her, he moved around to the other side of the bed and sat next to her, he peeled back the covers over her face. Her eyes were squeezed shut and she reached blindly for the cover's corner now in Scor's hands.

"C'mon sleepy head"

"I'm not sleepy, but whenever I move my head, it hurts" she responded without looking at him. She was lying on her side, body facing towards him.

"You're hung-over Roxy" he chuckled.
"I know that. Don't you have a sobering solution or anything?" slowly she opened her eyes and they widened; she hadn't been aware how close he was. She shifted slightly to look up at him and winced as she did.

He smiled down at her and took out his wand to summon one of the sobering solutions from the boy's shared stash in Ly's top drawer. Except when he did, no green vial whizzed towards him. He tried again, frowning.

"Apparently, we're all out" he addressed her.

"Ohh" she groaned, closing her eyes and letting her head fall back to the mattress.

He sighed, stroking the hair out of her face he stood up, "Wait there, I'll make you one"
"What?" she asked, shifting herself up slowly she sat to watch him. He moved to the foot of the bed and tapped under his cauldron with his wand, flames beneath it flickering to life. Like Roxanne, Scorpius also had a potions set up at the end of his bed. She grinned.

He caught her grinning at him, "What?" he asked.

"Nothing. You're the best you know that?"
"You don't have to sweeten me up, I'm already doing it"
She laughed and he noticed her wince slightly, bringing a hand up to her forehead.~

As Scorpius busied himself making the potion, Roxanne couldn't help but stare. He was still topless, for Merlin's sake!

She could feel herself heating up whenever she stared at his chiselled, tanned torso, so she forced herself to pay attention to the ingredients and the method he was using. He didn't seem to consult a book so he'd obviously made it before. In fact, the process seemed relatively easy; it required minimal stirring and common ingredients. When Scorpius had finished adding everything, she noted a green vapour rising from the potion's surface.~

When Scorpius had done with the potion, he cleared up his workspace- a wooden blanket box at the foot of his bed- and put a lid on the cauldron. He came over and sat on his bed, about halfway up. He sat cross-legged facing Roxanne and laid his wand to the side of him, "So, Wild girl, what do you remember from last night?" he teased with a smirk.

She crossed her arms over her chest and glared right at him. He laughed. He couldn't help it, something about the sight of her trying to be serious when she had last night's make up smeared around her eyes and her hair sticking up in all directions. It was funny.
"You are so lucky loud noises aren't my friend right now" she mumbled as he held his hands up apologetically.

"In that case, you're so lucky it's almost ready" as if on cue, a sharp whistle echoed from the cauldron as steam blew out from a little hole in its lid. He laughed as she covered her ears to the sound. He loved the irony of this potion, provided he wasn't making it when he was hung-over. He divvied out the potion into ten small vials and sent the first nine off to rest in Lysander's top drawer. He took the last vial and handed it to Roxanne, stopper off. When he passed her the vial of green liquid and she scrunched up her features at it. It didn't have the best smell.

"Just drink" he assured from her side, now he sat next to her, leaning back on the headboard too. She drank, almost instantly; Scorpius noted the magical change in her. She looked less pale and in pain. Her face relaxed and so did she, sinking a little more into his bed. She seemed to forget where she was or her anger at Scorpius as she smiled blissfully and closed her eyes.

"So, again, my Wild girl. What do you remember from last night?" he teased, slinging and arm over her shoulder as he did often.

She opened her eyes and looked at him, he watched as her eyes took in his topless chest and they widened slightly. He began to smirk but then remembered Zach's comment about Toby and realised he was sitting in bed with her, topless and an arm round her. Not exactly innocent. Then he realised he was topless. He had specifically put a shirt on last night. Shit!

"Sorry" he mumbled. Carefully, he leaned across Rox, watching where he placed his hands and looked at the floor where he had slept. Bingo.

He summoned the Tee and straightened, pulling it over his head. He smirked at her as she shook her head and blinked slightly. She had been staring.

She slapped him on the arm for his smirk, not needing to tell him why. He watched as the blush crept up her smooth cheeks and had the sudden urge to follow it with his lips. He too shook his head. Obviously something about having a girl in his bed was giving him strange thoughts. He was quiet for a while, and he nearly forgot he had asked her a question.

"I remember dancing. A lot. And the punch. Oh, Freddie and El spiked the punch. Merlin, did I make an absolute fool of myself?"

He smiled genuinely at her, "You and Liv seemed to be having the time of your lives actually." He began and he filled her in on what he knew of her night before Liv bumped into him and Ari, then he told her that they danced for a while, expertly ignoring the way his heart felt heavier as he remembered how good it had felt to be dancing with her so close up against him. He came to the part of the night where they met up with Lorcan and Liv and he wondered if he should tell her about his encounter with Logan. He realised lying to her was the worst possible idea and so he did, recounting their 'conversation' as accurately as possible.

"He thinks you like me?" was all she asked.

"Really, Rox? After all of that, that's your question?"
"Well I get everything else, I just don't understand why people seem to think you would like me…"
He shrugged next to her, suddenly wishing he hadn't told her everything Logan has said.
"No idea, Rox. You're just a pain in the ass, to me" he said loftily. Ignoring the part of him that answered with, what's not to like?

"Such hurtful words, from someone so annoying" she replied.
"What was that?"
She yelped as he turned on her and tickled her sides. She writhed around in his covers, trying to get away from him, in her escape attempt, she fell off of the bed, landing on the duvets he had slept on with an oof.

He lay across the bed's width and hung his head over the side, peering over at her. He smirked down at her and she narrowed her eyes at him, unintentionally pouting.

"Help me up then"

He rolled his eyes and stood, walking around the other side of the bed and standing by her feet. He held one hand out in front and she scowled.

"Is that all?"

"Meet me halfway then" he leaned further forwards and she met him in the middle, grasping his hand tightly she pulled down so he ended up on the floor. She had intended to stand while pulling him down but had failed in the process. Now she was on her back and he was on his front next to her.

"Well that was smart wasn't it, Rox?" he said as he leaned up on his elbows, his abdomen and legs still laid out on the floor. He had fallen at an angle so his feet were over Roxanne's lower legs.

"Yeah well, it didn't quite go to plan" she offered with a laugh.

He pushed himself up onto his knees and went to lean back, finding her legs beneath his, he stopped.

"You're going to crush my legs Scor, you big lump"
"Oh really?" he asked, leaning forwards again but shifting so he was over her, placing his palms either side of her head. As he hovered over her he couldn't help but notice the blush that coated her face and the quickening of his own heart rate.

Reacting quickly to his threat of suffocation, she reached up and tickled his sides firmly. He laughed and fell to the side, ending up on his back as she continued to attack him. Her shins were on the floor and she was sitting back on her calves when she finally decided to relinquish her attacks.

Scorpius sat up, face red breathing heavily as he recovered from his fit of less-than manly giggles. He faced Roxanne and she smirked at him, he returned her expression effortlessly and they both laughed.

"Well" he began, running a hand through his hair, "It seems you've recovered from your hang over" he stood and held his hand out. She took it properly this time, allowing him to pull her up.

"It seems I have. Thank you"

He laughed, "No problem" he turned towards the door of the bathroom but she pulled him back, their hands still joined. He now faced her and she put her arms around his waist and squeezed herself tight against him. He put his arms around her loosely, wondering where the hug was coming from.

"Seriously, Scorpius, thank you. I would have made a complete fool of myself if you had just left me there. Logan would probably never want to see me again"
He smiled but inside, he felt his heart sinking, of course she would care what Logan thought. Still, he ignored it and stroked her hair as she held onto him, "I wouldn't have let that happen."
He pulled back to look at her but her hands remained on him, "Anyway thank Lorcan, if it weren't for him, you'd have been woken up over an hour ago by people leaving for the train and a splitting headache. I was going to leave you on the sofa"

"Such a charmer you are" she replied poking him in the stomach with one hand, the other still remaining at his waist.

"Well, it wasn't hard to get you in my bed was it?" he smirked and she punched him in the stomach this time.

He bent forwards, a little breath leaving him but recovered quickly grinning. He was getting used to the abuse he received, though he probably deserved it from the comments he made. She glared at him a little but he could see the corners of her mouth resisting a smile.

He suddenly realised she was still in his room and in her Halloween costume. Half of their House already thought they were having an illicit affair after the Florence fiasco, if she left in that; it would make matters worse.

"Rox, you're going to have to get changed" he stated plainly, walking over to his drawers and searching for the smallest T-shirt he could find. He picked up grey shirt and pulled out some shorts from the next drawer.

"Why?"
"Rox, people already think we're having sex. You leave like that, it looks bad." She blushed at his bluntness but nodded all the same, taking the clothes he offered.

"Fine, but then I need a shower" she walked over to the linen cupboard a copy of the one in her own dorm and retrieved a towel, shutting herself in the bathroom before he could protest.

Scorpius heard the shower turn on and sighed. He took the opportunity to cast a few cleansing spells on himself as the shower was occupied and changed into tracksuit bottoms and a clean T-shirt, confident she wouldn't walk out while the water was running.

He sat on the edge of his bed and ran his hands through his hair, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees he sighed.

Last night he had dreamed of her, and all morning, being with her; teasing and laughing, his stomach had been fluttering nervously. That was new. His heart had felt heavy when he realised she cared what Logan thought. That was new too. He could only think of one explanation for his unwilling behaviour. He had thought it the other day on the Quidditch pitch and dismissed it, but now… He was starting to believe it. As much as he didn't like the idea.

There was a reason people continued to accuse him of liking her, and Scorpius sighed, admitting it to himself in a mental whisper, it's because you do. He realised he was falling for her, one of his best friends, the girl who had woken up in his bed, the girl now in his shower.

One of the only girls he could never have – Roxanne Weasley.

Fuck. ~
