This story is a surprise story for newbienovelistRD, who introduced me to the "Ghostly Mansion" song last year. :) If you haven't heard the song or watched the video, you can find it on YouTube. :)
"Ghostly Mansion" belongs to its respective owners. The Nightmare Before Christmas belongs to Disney. Karen, Autumn, and Adam (Reaper) belong to newbienovelistRD. I only own Rachel and Sasha. Also, the names for the Ghostly Mansion monsters are ones that newbienovelistRD made up. :) She's also written stories about the Ghostly Mansion, so be sure to check them out. :)
Switched Up To Adventure
Autumn breathed in the crisp air and let out a happy sigh. Ever since she and her mother had found out that the skeleton the young girl had met in her friends' world was her dad, a few things had changed, but not in a bad way.
Though he was a skeleton, Adam, who was still called Reaper by his friends as a nickname, was a doting father and he and Autumn shared a close relationship. Smiling, the young girl walked through the door. "Mom? Dad? I'm home!" She called out.
But just as she was about to step into the living room, reality warped around her and she screamed as she began falling, scared as she had no idea what was going on.
In the monster world, Jeff perked up and looked grim. "Guys...do you feel that?" He asked.
Rocky felt his fur stand on end. "Yeah," he said. "Something's up."
Spooks looked around, as did the sister witches. "Something's about to happen and I don't like the feel of it," said Cordelia.
"It feels...somewhat bad," Ophelia admitted.
Just then, something popped into the living room with them, letting out screams before landing on the floor and groaning.
Rachel and Sasha had been discussing about visiting Jack and Sally and inviting them for Thanksgiving dinner when reality had warped around them and they had fallen through the air, landing painfully moments later.
The older sister groaned as she got up, shaking her head to clear it. "What happened?" She asked, straightening out her glasses before looking up to see familiar faces. "Guys? What's going on?" She asked.
"Hey," Rocky said, blinking. "Did your magic key break again?"
Rachel shook her head. "No. My sister and I were about to go visit a friend of ours when we suddenly began falling as reality warped around us," she said, turning to help Sasha to her feet.
The younger sister groaned before gasping and then relaxing at seeing it was their friends. "Hey, guys," she said.
Just then, a knock came at the door and Spooks answered it to find Karen and Adam there and they looked worried. "Spooks, please tell us that Autumn is here," Adam said worriedly.
"We can't find her anywhere," Karen said, tears building in her eyes.
The ghost let them in and the sisters gasped at seeing the skeleton and the lady, but relaxed as they were introduced and explainations followed. "Wow," Rachel said in awe at Adam before becoming serious. "You said Autumn is missing?"
"Yes, and it's unlike her," said Adam. "We heard her say she was home and then it was like she vanished."
A deep laugh filled the room. "Oh, she did," came a voice that sounded from all around them. Sasha's eyes widened and she grabbed Rachel.
"Rach, please tell me that's not who I think it is?" She asked.
"I hate to say it, sis, but it is," the older girl said, looking around. "Your tricks are a bore, Oogie Boogie."
Shadows gathered and formed the evil creature. "Oh, you wound me to the quick!" He said dramatically.
"Who is this guy?" Jeff asked.
"Oogie Boogie and he's bad news," Sasha said. "We've got to defeat him."
The creature laughed. "Do that and you'll never find your precious Autumn," he cackled.
That made Adam angry. "What have you done with my daughter?!" He demanded to know.
"Daughter?! Oh, that's a laugh!" Oogie said, laughing hard.
That was the last straw for Rachel and she growled. "Guys, let's take him down!" She said.
"With pleasure!" Cordelia said, calling up her magic as the others got their powers ready.
When Oogie saw they were angry, he actually gulped before deciding to pull a vanishing act, but vines caught him before he could. "Leaving so soon?" Sasha said, her hands glowing green. "How rude."
Rachel unleashed a ghostly wail that made flinch and try to escape, but he couldn't. "Now, where's Autumn?" She asked with a glare.
Oogie grinned nastily. "You'll never find her!" He said.
"Au contraire," Ophelia said. "We know exactly where she is."
"And we'll find her," Jeff said, glaring at the monster before they all combined their powers and made the creep vanish.
Rocky looked at Ophelia. "Okay, so where is Autumn?" He asked.
She looked sheepish. "I was bluffing, really," she admitted. "I was hoping he'd tell us."
"Actually, he did," Rachel said. "If he showed up, I'm willing to bet Autumn is in a place that only Oogie Boogie would be able to bring her to."
Sasha looked up and gasped, catching on.
"Halloween Town!" Both sisters said at once.
The monsters and Karen looked confused. "Where's that?" Jeff asked.
"It's a realm like this one," Rachel said. "Our good friend is the ruler of that town."
"Can he find Autumn?" Adam asked.
Sasha pulled out her phone. "Only one way to find out."
Autumn opened her eyes, looking around to find herself in what looked like a bedroom, but it looked old and it was a bit dark. She shivered a bit before hearing the door open and she turned, gasping when she saw a skeleton walk in. He paused in shock. "Who are you?" He asked.
Perhaps it was because of her recent freefall or just surprise in general, but Autumn let out a scream. The skeleton flinched and moved closer. "Wait," he said.
"Get away from me!" She screamed before darting past him and running fast, almost making it to a door she saw when she was suddenly scooped up into two thin, but strong arms.
"Whoa! Hold on there!" The skeleton chuckled as the girl struggled in his arms. "Easy now, young one."
She turned to look at him and shrieked as a living rad doll came up to them, eyes wide in surprise. "Jack, who's this?" She asked softly.
"I don't know, Sally," he admitted.
Autumn looked up at him and he smiled. "Don't be afraid. We won't hurt you," he said.
Just then, the phone rang and Sally went to answer it, coming back moments later. "Sweetie, is your name Autumn?" She asked gently.
The girl was shocked. "How do you know my name?" She asked.
Sally smiled. "I just got a call from a dear friend and she told me about you," she said. "Sounds like Oogie Boogie transported you here."
"What?!" Jack asked in shock, his hold tightening protectively on Autumn.
"Don't worry, Jack," his wife said, still smiling. "Rachel and Sasha, along with Autumn's friends and family took care of him."
He relaxed and saw Autumn looked confused. "Oogie Boogie is our enemy," he explained. "I wonder why he transported you here."
"Maybe he was trying to kidnap Autumn but it backfired," said Sally.
The young girl was getting really confused now. "Um...what?" She asked.
Jack smiled. "Hmm, perhaps the first order of business is helping you feel better," he said, his fingers wiggling into Autumn's sides.
She squeaked and laughed. "HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEY!" She laughed out.
"Hay is for horses," the skeleton said playfully, blowing a raspberry into her neck, which made her squeal before she fell down, but he caught her and gently set her on the floor, quickly going to her feet and wrapping an arm around them.
Autumn tried to get her feet free, but was soon laughing again as bony fingers tickled her feet all over. "AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! NOHOHOHOHOHOT THEHEHEHEHEHEHEHERE!" She laughed.
"Cootchie, cootchie, coo!" He cooed. "Tickle, tickle, tickle!"
"AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA!"
Jack kept a careful eye on her and when he say her face starting to turn red, he stopped, picking up the girl and holding her in a hug as she regained her breath. "Are you alright, Autumn?" He asked.
She nodded and smiled. "You remind me a lot of my friends, especially my dad," she said.
He chuckled. "Speaking of which, let's get you back home," he said. "Sally, will you call Rachel and Sasha and tell them we're ready?"
"Of course," Sally said.
As soon as the sisters got the news, they smiled and spoke as one.
"A reunion it must be,
Something for all to see,
Listen to us as a welcome we sing,
To the Pumpkin Queen and King!"
Before the monster's eyes and Karen's eyes, a tall skeleton in a suit and a rag doll in a patchwork dress appeared and in the skeleton's arms was Autumn. "Autumn!" Adam said, rushing forward.
"Dad! Mom!" She said, reaching forward as her father took her into his arms, hugging her. Karen came up and hugged them while the Ghostly Mansion monsters gathered around in awe before Jeff gasped.
"Jack? Is that you?" He asked.
"Jeff!" Jack said, beaming. "Good to see you, old friend!"
Rachel and Sasha were surprised. "Jack, you know Jeff?" Sasha said.
"I sure do!" The skeleton said, smiling. "Why Jeff was my inspiration for my scarecrow costume that I still use to this day!"
"So this is the Pumpkin King," Cordelia said, her eyes wide.
"He's handsome!" Ophelia said with a smile. "No wonder his wife fell in love with him."
Sally blushed at the compliment, as did Jack while the others covered up their laughter politely. "I wonder," Rachel said after a moment.
"What, sis?" Sasha asked.
"Well, you and I were planning to visit Jack when we got transported here. I wonder if Autumn was planning to visit her friends when Oogie transported her," the older sister said.
Jack snapped his fingers. "You might be right," he said. "He no doubt thought that you girls would be frightened if you found yourselves in different places."
Sasha huffed. "Well, he's behind the times," she said. "We met these guys a while back and we're friends with them."
"Lucky for us," Rachel said before turning to Autumn. "Though, are you okay, Autumn? You didn't get hurt, did you?"
She shook her head. "No," she said. "Though...I did freak out at seeing Jack." She blushed in embarrassment.
Sasha chuckled. "Don't feel bad," she said. "I fainted when I first met Jack."
"You did?" Rocky asked in surprise.
She nodded. "I did," she said. "I was afraid of him for a bit, but he proved to be a sweet skeleton."
Ophelia turned to Rachel, who was smiling. "How did you meet Jack, Rachel?" She asked.
The older girl smiled again. "Jack saved me from a fire when I was four years old," she said. "We were reunited a few years ago and he became part of the family."
Adam went up and shook Jack's hand. "Thank you for keeping my daughter safe," he said.
"My pleasure," the Pumpkin King said.
Sasha then gasped. "Rach, I have an idea!" She said. "We still have plenty of room to invite more people for Thanksgiving, right?"
"We sure do," Rachel said, catching on what her sister was thinking. "And everyone here is invited to join us for Thanksgiving."
The monsters smiled and accepted the invitation and Autumn smiled, hugging her dad again who hugged her. "Are you okay, sweetie?" He asked.
She nodded and grinned. "I have some pretty crazy adventures ever since I met the gang," she said. "But I wouldn't trade it for anything."
"Same here," he said, tickling her sides and making her giggle before he pulled Karen into the hug and she hugged him and her daughter.
"I'm so glad you're okay, sweetie," she said.
Autumn smiled. "With good friends and two awesome parents, I'm always okay," she said as they hugged again.
