This fic is relatively loosely based on the film "But I'm a Cheerleader" though I own neither it nor Glee. Though some lines will be used from the film, it won't follow exactly and will veer off more as it goes along. Some Glee characters will be somewhat OOC since it's AU.
Brittany Pierce could tell something was up. Her friends had been acting strange around her all day. Now her boyfriend, after a boring make-out session in his car, had suddenly looked at the time and decided she needed to get home NOW. When they got to her house, there were half a dozen cars parked outside. She recognized those of her best friend, Quinn, and Quinn's annoying boyfriend Finn, along with her parents' which was strange because it was only 4:30 pm.
"Sam, what is going on? Did someone die?"
Her boyfriend didn't answer her, just grasped her hand as they walked up to the front door. They entered her house to find her parents, Quinn and Finn, and a few of their other cheerleading friends sitting in the living room, along with two people she'd never seen before.
"Seriously, you're all freaking me out. What's going on?"
The woman she didn't recognize spoke.
"Hi Brittany, my name is Emma. Your parents and your friends want to have a conversation with you. I'm here to help facilitate that dialogue. Why don't we start by sitting down and making ourselves comfortable."
Brittany sat down, confused about why everyone was staring at her.
"Now Peter, would you like to start the conversation?"
Brittany's father stood up. "Brittany, we love you. We've become concerned about certain behaviors. We're afraid you're being influenced by a…way of thinking."
"Honey, we think you're…a lesbian." Her mother blurted out.
Brittany just stared at them. This was NOT where she thought this conversation was going.
"I work at a place called New Directions, where we help people, like yourself, learn to understand the reasons behind homosexual tendencies, and how to heal them." Emma chimed in again.
Brittany's eyes bugged out. "What tendencies? Why would you think I'm a homosexual?"
"You've been trying to make us eat this…tofu." Her mother said, holding up a piece in a bag.
"You don't have any pictures of guys in your locker…just these." Quinn held up a picture of a girl in a bikini that Brittany knew had been in her locker.
"These." Her father added. He held up her Missy Higgins poster.
"Gay iconography." Emma said smugly.
"You don't even like to kiss me." Sam said.
"Sometimes we catch you looking at us in the locker room." Shannon offered tentatively.
"And you always want to make out with us at parties." Grace added.
"Everyone does that! The guys think it's hot."
"Not everyone enjoys it as much as you do." Quinn said.
"I can't believe this. I'm not a homosexual." Brittany repeated, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Denial is a normal part of the healing process we'll explore at New Directions." Emma explained.
"Healing?" Brittany asked skeptically.
"Like, rehab. Homosexuals anonymous." Her mother said.
"It's only for a few months."
"There is no way I'm going!" Brittany yelled.
Two days later, she sat annoyed in the back seat of her parents' car on her way to New Directions.
At the same time, Santana Lopez stared out the window of her father's SUV. She'd been dreading something like this for weeks now, ever since her stepmother caught her making out with a girl in her bedroom. To make matters worse, Jamie was now completely denying everything, acting almost like Santana had jumped her. Not that they'd been able to see much of each other except at school, since Santana was totally grounded. And last week she'd found out she was being shipped off to some ex-gay camp.
"Dad, are you sure I have to go? It's the 21st century. Being gay is okay now."
"You know how Sophia feels."
"You're my dad. How do you feel?"
He didn't answer. Santana stuck her earphones back into her ears and retreated into her music.
The nine teens enrolled in this session all arrived around the same time. They eyed each other warily as their parents dropped them off, pleading to be good and work hard.
"Hello, children." A large blonde woman spoke. "I'm Sue Sylvester, founder of New Directions. We'll show you to your rooms so you can drop off your things before you have a preliminary session with Emma to get to know each other. Will, if you could show the boys to their room? Girls, follow me."
Santana, Brittany, and the two other girls followed the imposing woman to a large room with four beds in it.
"Girls, pick a bed and put your things down. You shouldn't have brought much from home, since we will be providing clothing here. After your session with Emma you'll have some free time to change."
Santana plopped her backpack onto the nearest bed, noticing that the cute tall blonde girl selected the one next to her.
"Oh, and there is to be NO inappropriate behavior here. That will get you kicked out of the program."
"Inappropriate behavior?" Brittany asked.
"She means no fucking." Santana said dryly.
