A/N at the bottom again! :) and yes, another day another upload.
''Miss. You do know that drinking wine in the morning isn't the best habit to have, right?''
The agents raspy voice reverberating through the room, startling Maura and shaking her out of her thoughts.
The blonde turned around, a surprised look in her eyes as she was met with Jane standing in the doorway of the library with a small smirk on her face. Besides the smirk the brunette was completely professional, the trademark black suit, tie, earpiece hanging over her shoulder and her aviators tucked in the chest pocket of her jacket – hands clasped behind her back.
''I love wine, and I haven't had one since I left for Tanzania. Alcoholic beverages weren't a priority there.'' The woman defended herself.
''Why are you here though, agent Rizzoli?'' she added slightly confused, the agents name rolled over her tongue like it was made for her to say. Her eyes traveling over the agents tailored suit, trying to suppress the thought of how attractive the woman was.
''My shift started at 6.30 this morning. I accompanied the First Lady to breakfast as your father had an urgent call earlier and left for the office, and you had breakfast earlier. I have been assigned to accompany you today and to show you around or answer any questions you might have, my replacement is still wandering around here so I am a bit redundant at the moment.'' Jane said as she stepped inside the room and glanced around, taking in the countless shelves of books.
Maura nodded with a small frown, ''How – how did you know I would be here?'' she asked curiously.
''Well, I assumed you were the book-type. And there is only one library inside the White House.'' The agent said, turning on her heels to look back at Maura.
The First Daughter was met with the agents smile once again when she looked up, but she didn't smile back. Instead Jane was met with an offended look in return.
''How dare you?'' Maura asked, her voice in a slightly higher pitch than usual as she stood up from her chair.
Jane's eyes widened a bit, taken aback by the blonde getting offended at her words.
''It was a joke. My apologies Miss.'' she muttered, her voice returning to its professional tone and straightening her posture.
''I didn't mean it as an insult. It could be taken as a compliment that I knew you would spend your free time in the library.'' she added, knowing she messed up when green eyes looked at her in confusion – then turning back to offended.
The blonde scoffed. ''You thought I was dumb?'' she asked now.
Jane had nothing, her mouth opening slightly in confusion. Eyebrows furrowed above confused brown eyes. ''I -.. no.'' she stumbled over her words.
''Didn't I just say that I found you smart enough?'' Jane asked, lifting a head to scratch the back of her head as she retraced her words from just seconds ago.
It was undeniable that Maura was amused by the guards confused look, her annoyance instantly disappearing at the sight of confused brown eyes and dark eyebrows strongly knitted together – her brain working in the background to find any logic in the situation. It was a sight Maura hadn't expected to see from the agent after yesterday. The brunette seemed put together, a strong leader with a mind of her own and this confused puppy look was far from the woman ordering her men around yesterday.
''You look cute when you look confused.''
The words were out before Maura realized. The brunettes face in front of her softened, a slight creeping up on tanned cheeks. A smile creeped up on the blondes face, her ears tickling from warm cheeks as she realized she was blushing too.
''Oh.. I – thank you.'' Jane stumbled over her words. She wasn't one to be easily caught off guard but Maura had caught her off guard multiple times in barely a day time.
The agent had a strong mind. She always knew what to say.
Just not when Maura complimented her. The First Daughter was undeniably gorgeous, her smile was mesmerizing and was framed by dimples that made Jane feel weird in the stomach. And whenever the blonde complimented her she forgot how to speak, it was embarrassing.
Wanting to quickly change the topic Jane cleared her throat. ''So, Miss. What are your plans for the day?'' she asked, hoping it was enough the change the topic.
Maura gladly took the opportunity to change the topic,
''I was planning on visiting a friend that I haven't seen a while, I am leaving this afternoon to Boston. I would love for you to accompany me.'' She said, then realizing Jane was her fathers agent.
''That is, if my father approves of course.''
The agent swallowed heavily at the suggestion and the blonde could see something was bothering her.
''Boston? You are here for barely a day. Don't you want to spend more time with your family?'' Jane asked, the First Daughter frowning.
''Yes, Boston. It is about an hour and a half with the plane from here. I discussed it with my parents, they said that if I wanted to go – I had to before the media would discover who I am and that I returned to America. So I am leaving as soon as possible before I am stuck in this house with a personal security detail.'' Maura said as she closed her book and put it down on the table with her glass of wine.
Looking up at the agent she noticed dark brown eyes staring at the ground, a battle of the mind going on behind them.
''Do you want to join me, or not?''
Jane's head shot up at the question, clearly uncomfortable as her eyes flashed over green.
The agent had left Boston behind. She had left her colleagues, her parents and her brothers. She had left all of it for this job and had never returned, nor gave a call in their direction. The time in which she left the family was falling apart due to her father cheating on her mother, people were in arguments. Work was upset by her resignation and she had gotten in to a rather heavy argument over it with her partner Korsak. Never had the brunette thought she would go back there while still employed with the Secret Service, but there was no declining an offer if the First Daughter brought it.
''Of course. I would love to join you, Miss.'' Jane said, having a hard time debating if she agreed to come along because it was part of her job or if it was because she couldn't resist the hopeful green eyes of the blonde in front of her.
''Good.'' the cheery voice came from Maura, followed by a bright smile that had Jane's stomach tied in knots one again.
"'I will enlighten my father, hoping he approves of it. If he does you should head home to pack some bags and we should be ready to leave.''
Jane gave her a confused look, eyeing her to see if she was serious or not.
''You don't want me to go over any security plans? Check if everything is safe? Double check the hotel you are staying at, do a background check on those near you? Arrange the route towards the hotel?'' she asked. It was ingrained in her brain to think out every route to be taken, to always secure every entrance and exit. The agent even did it at home. She never had the same routes and schedules, always making sure nobody could track her timings – once home extra locks on the doors and windows.
Maura laughed. ''No, silly.'' she smiled. ''We travel with a private plane and my friend will be there to pick me up upon arrival. I own a house and a car in Beacon Hill so there is nothing to worry about. I will ask my father if you can come along. If he clears you I will text you, you can go home and pack up. When you get back we can head for the airport, but I drive.''
Brown eyes narrowed, knowing the blonde must have been joking when she said that. Jane opened her mouth to answer but the blonde held up her hand – showing it wasn't a joke and it wasn't negotiable.
''Clear.'' the agent mumbled, Maura approaching her.
Jane looked up, confused as the blonde stepped in to her space.
''You sounded a bit scared when I asked you to join me to Boston. Bad memories?'' she asked – her voice soft and smooth as butter. Hands reached down to the agents belt but Jane wouldn't move, keeping her professional posture with her hands secured behind her back as her eyes tracked ever move of the other woman.
The agents voice was hoarse from the dry mouth she had suffered from the blonde being in such a close proximity to her, she could smell the woman's perfume as the woman reached in further.
''No, not at all. I just don't like planes that much.'' Jane lied, green eyes now flickering up to lock themselves with dark brown ones.
Maura kept her gaze as she took Jane's phone out of its holster. Once the device was secured she pulled away and turned her gaze to the phone, leaving the agent flustered.
She sent herself a text with Jane's phone and saved her number to the device before gently pressing it in to the agents hands.
Ever so casually Maura turned around and took her glass of wine from the table. Without another word she left the library, leaving the agent behind speechless – clinging on to her mobile phone.
The agent had to take a moment before she was able to shake the memory of the First Daughter so close to her out of her head, sliding her phone back in to the holster on her hip as she muttered.
''What that woman does to me..''
This chapter was short to begin with, sadly enough it is still rather short.
I considered fusing it with the next chapter but decided against it not to change the main story too much.
However, my muse for this story is returning and I am excited to rework this and end it up the way it was supposed to.
I know not many are interested in these updates, but I do hope it will keep your attention for the finale.
