AN: Hello everyone, since my and my boyfriend's fourth anniversary passed and we really couldn't do anything fun. We decided to watch Dragons: Race the Edge. I remember watching season 1 and didn't watch it for a while since Netflix only had the first season. But now it has all the seasons and we just finished watching season 4. So a Mericcup idea I came up with while watching Race to Edge.

~Fire Falls~
~Merida~
Merida had just come back from her morning ride with Angus and did she come back for a surprise. One of the men from Lord Macintosh had come to warn the Dunbroch family as an unknown ship had come into their territory, though Merida was very skeptical that one Viking clan would be brave enough to attack their lands.
But Merida kept a close eye around her land wondering if they would come close to where they lived. That same day she took Angus on a ride towards the shores to start her investigation, without her mother knowing.
There she saw further off the shore near the north side of her homeland ships was heading to shore. Merida was the ships had docked already and she raised a brow wondering why they were stupid enough to do such a thing.
Having Angus take another route she knew she sneaked her way around till she had thought she was close enough. There she had Angus wait as she sneaked to were their temporary base was at.
"We've got to be careful Ryker, one wrong move and we could have the whole kingdom on us." Merida saw another man talking to a tall bald man.
"Yes, I knew that. The only question is… Where is this 'Fire Falls'?" Merida's eyes widen.
Why are they looking for the Fire Falls? Was there something there they were looking for?
Whatever they were looking for Merida was determined to find it first before they went into enemy hands. She snuck back to her horse Angus and went around their camp careful enough where they wouldn't know she was once there. As Merida made it to the Fire Falls she watched the waterfall from the mountain.
She tilted her head in thought wondering what this place could hold vale or anything. So she took to another angle, she walked over behind the waterfall and saw a cave entrance.
How'd she never seen it there before? She had climbed the Fire Falls before and she didn't notice this cave here. She patted Angus yo stay as she went to investigate the cave. One thing she noticed, it was cold and dark. Odd knowing these Vikings would come here for just this cave.
But she saw a glimmer of light at what it looks to be the end of the cave. Merida walked through the dark careful for anything to jump at her. Her hand was ready for her bow and arrows. She stood there in awe seeing the room shining with various gold items and houseware. But that's what didn't catch her eye. It was on an old wooden chest in the back.
She slowly approached the chest as she noticed various carvings on the chest. It was all in Norse, very odd in her lands. Everything that had words carved in them was Gaelic, not Norse. As she inspected it she noticed this chest needed a specific key. It wasn't like any key she saw. It looked to be teeth marking of sorts.
She tried opening the chest trying her best of her strength. But it wouldn't budge, she even kicked it opening it would open but nothing. Then as she felt her hands around the chest she felt a bottom on the back top of the chest. She pressed the button hearing a 'click' sound. She smiled in victory knowing she finally found something.
She went behind seeing a hidden compartment sticking out and she pulled onto it till it opened. There she saw a roll and grabbed it as she opened it. It was as small as the maps her father had. It was written in Norse, she was grateful that her friend had helped her learn so that way she could read the scroll.
"Whoever braves the lands of the enemy, will be rewarded with the treasure. That treasure reminds in the mouth of a dragon hidden in the rocks that breathe fire for the water?" Merida read to herself. She lifted a brow wondering what these words meant.
"Hey!" She quickly put the scroll in her quiver as she looked down the cave.
She saw Angus running in fear as she calmed her friend down. She saw the same people she saw earlier running at with three other men with them.
"Angus, run!" She mounted Angus in a rush as she and Angus were running down the cave.
She hopped for an exit at the end as it seemed to go on forever. A light shined at the end making her smile. She had Angus stop to see the edge as it was large enough for them to go on the edge. Merida had to be careful. One wrong move and both of them would fall. As they went around slowly, she heard voices yelling from the cave.
A portion of the ledge broke causing her horse to panic.
"Angus! Jump!" Angus did. luckily landing on land in the back of the mountain. She had Angus run as she didn't want to wait for these Vikings to come at her.
Once she thought the coast was clear she hoped to come to the side of her saddle and open the bags she had there. A Terrible Terror came out greeting her with a lick.
"Sorry Ingle. Aye needs ya to deliver this to Hiccup." Merida quickly took a paper she had in her and wrote a letter to Hiccup. With a spear string she had, she strung the two papers together and gave it to Ingle.
"Be safe, and quickly get this to Hiccup." Ingle licked her hand as she grabbed the scroll flying away up into the sky.
Merida mounted Angus again as she rode him out carefully to the Stonehenge. There she looked behind her knowing no one had followed her till a next was thrown onto her. She struggled and struggled as Angus kicked her off. Angus ran off as the other trappers tried to stop the horse but it was too late.
"Look what we got here!" She saw Ryker boosting in victory as he smirked at his other men.
"Well I'll be. You must the Princess of Dunbroch! I've heard the Princess had fiery red hair and aim that never missed." Ryker smiled wickedly at her.
"Ryker the horse got away." The man tapped Ryker's shoulder.
"Never mind the horse. We got the Princess." He pointed at Merida.
"My father will know about this." She spat back.
"So you can understand us! I knew it! I've heard your clan is very close with the Hooligans tribe." Ryker pointed to an imaginary Berk.
"Once my father sees aye'm not on my horse. He will send his whole army after ya." She smiled at Ryker.
"Oh, we'll be gone before he knows you're missing." Her eyes widened.
~Hiccup~
The next morning, Hiccup and the gang were training with their dragons for anything to happen. Though it was strange since they haven't gotten any word from Viggo or his ships for a day. That changed once Stoick came in getting Hiccup about Johann ship being taken.
As everyone headed to Berk Hiccup was talking to Johann about what had happened.
"What happened Johann?"
"Ryker and his men took over my ship and took all my maps!" Johann shook Hiccup.
"W-why would they need maps for? Don't they already have them?" Hiccup eyed the Viking.
"No not the maps around our seas. They took one of the Highlanders territories." Hiccup eyes widened as he stared at his father.
"This isn't good indeed. But why risk war if they are going into a different territory?" Stoick places a hand on his chin.
"They're looking for another dragon eye lens. And this dragon eye lens in his highlander territory." Hiccup top placed a hand on his chin.
"Hold on son, we can't be sure where they are going."
"But dad-"
"We must be sure before you go on head first. Plus we don't want to leave Berk without any riders.
"Hiccup?" Hiccup turned his head seeing Astrid point at something.
There he saw a red Terrible Terror flying towards him. He lifted his arm letting the Terror sit on his arm as he took the papers from its leg.
"That's a different Terror." Fishlegs noted.
Hiccup was quick to open both and saw the letter inside the map. He pulled the letter to read it as he shook his head in fear.
"What is it Hiccup?" Astrid looked at Hiccup in concern.
"It's a letter from Merida. She was ambushed by Ryker and his men." Hiccup raised his head to his father in which he nodded his head to him.
"Hiccup, be careful. We may be on good terms with the Dunbroch clan, but that doesn't mean for the other clans. Let King Fergus know, and under his orders, you make sure Viggo doesn't cause any more trouble for them." Hiccup nodded his head as he smiled at his dad. Hiccup turned to his team as he smiled.
"Alright, guys. We'll be going on a long trip. Pack everything you need. We're leaving soon as everyone is ready. Astrid has your A team know what is going on. They'll be in charge of looking over the Edge."
"Whoa! Hiccup!" Astrid stopped in front of Hiccup as they all eyed him.
"What?" Hiccup shrugged his shoulders.
"First question. Who are these letters you are getting from?" Fishlegs smirked at the young chief.
"Second, how do you know about this… Merida?" Astrid raised a brow at him.
Hiccup sheepishly hid the letter behind him as she sidestepped away from his Astrid and everyone else. As he looked behind him he ran for it to his house to pack.
"Dunbroch is an old ally of ours." Everyone turned their heads to Stoick who was smiling at his son.
"King Fergus had asked for our help when invaders were coming into their land, and we gladly helped. So since then, Hiccup had known the Princess since they were kids." Stoick smiled.
"Whoa, whoa! Wait, a Princess? He knows a Princess? How come he never told us that?" Snotlout pointed to where Hiccup had run off to.
"Has Hiccup not told you guys?" Stoick raised a brow at them.
All of them shook their heads as she all looked at each other.
"Come on bud, yes, yes I know. You miss her too. But we've got a long ride ahead of us." Hiccup was packing his bags as he headed to the door. There he was greeted by the gang who were all staring at him.
"What?" Hiccup raised a brow.
"A Princess? How come you never told us you knew a Princess?" Fishlegs threw his arms in the air.
Hiccup lowered his eyes as he looks at Toothless who was rolling his eyes.
"I told you guys this years ago, you guys weren't paying attention when I told you." Hiccup crossed his arms together.
This was a couple of years ago as Hiccup and the gang had the dragon academy going at the time. Hiccup had left Astrid in charge since him and his father were going to be gone for two weeks to Dunbroch for trades. He was at the door with Toothless waving them goodbye.
This was a couple of years ago as Hiccup and the gang had the dragon academy going at the time.
"Alright guys, Toothless and I will be gone for two weeks. We'll be talking with Princess Merida and the King about-"
"Yeah, yeah we know!" Ruffnut yelled.
The twins looked at each other as they didn't recall anything Hiccup had told them about it. Hiccup shook his head as he walked over to Heather with Dagur next to her.
"Heather and Dagur. Make sure Berk is safe." He smiled at the two.
"Don't worry brother, think of this as a thank you gift. Haha!" Dagur laughed wickedly which caused Hiccup to wince a bit.
"Ohh, okay. We'll get things, ready guys. We'll be going far!"
"Are we there yet?" The twins said at the same time.
"No! Like the last time, I said no!" Hiccup glared at the twins.
"So…" Astrid and Stormfly fly closer to Hiccup as he raises his brow at her.
"So… What?"
"So, tell us about this… Merida. She's a Princess, huh?" Astrid smirked at Hiccup.
"What about Merida? Why are you guys looking at me like that?" Hiccup noticed everyone was looking slugged at him, as though they caught his little secret.
"Is she a dragon?" Hiccup frowned as the twins as they pointed at Hiccup.
"Or a Princess dragon." Ruffnut added to what her brother said.
"Oh, oh! Does she eat fish? Or people? Or Vikings?" Hiccup face palmed himself as he groaned, this was going to be a long flight.
"Tuffnut, I'm pretty sure Merida, is a person Hiccup likes." She pointed at Hiccup.
"What?" Hiccup turned behind watching everyone smile at him.
"Aww, love letters between you and Merida! How cute!" Fighlegs squee as he smiled at Hiccup.
"Kind of like you and Heather, huh, Fishface?" Snotlout smirked as Fishlegs blushed looking away.
"Besides, do we even know this 'Merida' is real?" Snotlout shrugged his shoulders.
Hiccup glared at Snotlout as Snotlout let and awkwardly laughed out.
"Hey, I'm just saying. We've never seen them come to Berk!" Snotlout pointed to Where Berk was at.
"Oh gods. Just because they don't come to Berk doesn't mean she isn't real, Snotlout." Hiccup sighed.
"Right, that's what the crazy say all the time." Snotlout smirked.
"Why is it your guy's business to know about me, o-or Merida for that factor?" Hiccup looked at his gang.
"Why not? Tell us everything about her. We want to know everything!" Astrid smiled.
"Well… Merida is a Princess of Dunbroch." Hiccup answered.
"He's trying to avoid the question!" Tuffnut pointed out.
"H-how am I trying to avoid the question?" Hiccup pointed to himself.
"Well for starters." Tuffnut started.
"Doesn't want to tell us about the person he's been sending letters to." Ruffnut added.
"Trying not to talk much about it."
"Oh yeah, probably sent each other a lot of love letters." The twins laughed as Hiccup was trying to hide his blush.
"O-oh Look ships up ahead!" Hiccup was thanking Thor for a distraction from the conversation.
"Why is Viggo's ship chasing their own?" Astrid pointed that out.
Hiccup pulled his spyglass out to look down at the ships. The smaller one was being steered by a red-haired woman. Wait! He knew who that was! Toothless sniffed the air recognizing the smell of a person they knew. Hiccup patted his friend's head as he put the sky glass away.
"Yeah, it's her bud. Let's go!"
"Hiccup wait!" Astrid lifted her arm trying to stop Hiccup.
Hiccup swooped down getting to the boat the redhead was on and quickly blasted the ship behind it before it could take another shot at the boat. He then landing onto the middle as he smirked at the young woman. His eyes widen, he hadn't seen Merida in a couple of years but she had grown into a beautiful woman from the last he had seen her. But he was glad the two talk to each other by Terror Mail.
"Why hello there Princess." She stared at his eyes wide.
"Hiccup! Aye'm glad to see ya and Toothless! And... Ya grown!" She stared at him wide eyes as well.
"I hate to burst this wonderful reunion... But there are other ships on their way attacking us!" Snotlout yelled as he flew by boat the two were on.
"Hope on!" Hiccup motioned Merida as she shook her head.
"Hiccup, one of the boats has my brothers on it!" She pleaded with him.
"What? How?-"
Merida quickly hopped on behind Hiccup as she pointed to the ship she knew her brothers were on.
"Aye'll explain later! Let's go!" Hiccup nodded his head as he had Toothless take him to the sky.
Everyone flew by the ships shooting down fire to destroy the large crossbow shooting at them, Fishlegs brought down a ship as Meatlug had used her lava to blow the barrels us. Snotlout had Hookfang light himself on fire as she set another boat on fire. Astrid flew to another boat having Stormfly do the something as she hopped off knocking out the other trappers and hopping back onto Stormfly. Toothless shot his shots knocking over Trappers off the boat, he was close enough for Merida to hop off.
"Merida, wait!" He tried stopping her but it was too late she ran to below deck looking for her brothers.
Hiccup had Toothless land as trappers attacked the two of them. While the fight was going on Ryker was a different boat where he held Merida's brothers on the ship, he smirked as he got his men to turn the boat south and head back to where they once were. This caused most of the other boats to retreat and let the riders cheer in victory, Astrid notice Hiccup tying up the trappers as they all landed where he was at.
"Hiccup, their retreating!" Astrid smiled.
Hiccup smiled back at her as he nodded his head, they all heard someone running out screaming as a trapper was running for their lives. Running from who they say? It was Merida holding a sword as the trapper slipped and she brought it down close to his family jewels.
"Where, are, my, brothers!" Merida screamed.
"N-n-not m-my j-jewels!" The trappers stuttered.
"Then, talk! Or ya like to walk without them for the rest of ya life!" Merida brought the sword even closer causing Snotlout, Fishlegs, and Hiccup to look at each other scared.
"O-okay, Merida. Calm down." Hiccup walked up to Merida as he places a hand onto her shoulder.
Merida shrugged it off as she pulled on the trapper's shirt forcing him with her sword to stand up. She then had him walk to the edge of the boat as she held it at his neck. Before the trapper spoke he passed out as she let something through his pants, Merida back away as she threw the sword away in frustration.
"That's the third one!" She threw her hand up into the air.
"Whoa, can I say. Your friend is awesome! Is she with someone? Cause I can be the man of her dreams." Snotlout posed for Merida to look at him.
"Snotlout, really?" Astrid glared at Snotlout as she rolled her eyes.
"Merida, what do you mean the third one?" Hiccup stopped Merida trying to calm her down.
"A-aye... May have interrogated two others..." She sheepishly smiled.
"You're scary when you're mad." Fishlegs pointed out.
"Aren't you going to introduce us to your friend, Hiccup?" Astrid smirked at Hiccup.
"Oh, right. This is Merida of Dunbroch. Merida, these are my friends. And fellow Dragon riders." Hiccup introduced everyone.
"Aye, halo. Aye'm Merida Dunbroch. Princess of Dunbroch, it seems aye need all ya help." Merida smiled at everyone.
"Whoa, were talking to a fire." Tuffnut lifted his hand as if he wanted to touch Merida's hair.
"Idiot, that's her hair!" Ruffnut smacks her brother causing the two to start a brawl.
"Merida, what happened?" Hiccup looked at her as Merida frowned.
"My father heard from one of Lord Macintosh men someone had to invade their lands. So aye went to do my own investigation." Merida explained.
"Do they know who?" Hiccup asked.
"No, all we know it ain't anyone from our lands. It's a Viking clan. We don't know who." Merida shrugged her shoulders.
"All aye knew was that they were going to be on the shores near my father's land. Aye found a man named Ryker and his men looking for the Fire Falls."
"Fire Falls? Why there?" Hiccup placed a hand onto his chin in thought.
"You know of this 'Fire Falls'?" Astrid raised a brow at him.
"What? I went there when we were kids. Plus Merida and I-" He notice everyone smirking at them as he stopped.
"Anywho aye found a hidden cave there and found a room with treasures in it. There was an old Viking chest that needs a key aye didn't have. Aye found a hidden compartment and found that scroll aye sent ya." Merida motioned to Hiccup.
"That's why you sent me that." Hiccup look at Merida.
"I'm afraid this means Viggo might be looking for a dragon eye lens, in Dunbroch." Astrid noted.
"We have to tell your father about this. We'll take you back home to-"
"But my brothers!"
"Merida, I know. Don't worry we'll get them. If Ryker is really looking for a dragon eye lens, he's going to go back to Dunbroch keep on searching till he gets his hand on it. Okay?" Merida nodded her head as everyone mounted their dragons.
As everyone landed near Dunbroch, Merida took the lead as they walked through Dunbroch with everyone staring wide eyes at them. Merida rolled her eyes as she told the guards to open the doors leading them to where her parents were at.
"Whoa! Now that's a castle!" Tuffnut pointed in awe.
"So much potential." She twins winked at each other.
"So you really are a Princess." Snotlout looked around in awe as well.
"This is amazing! We're walking into a totally different culture guys!" Fishlegs geeked out.
"Alright, guys. Were here to help Merida's family out. Not stay here and look at all the cool things Highlanders have. No offense Merida." Merida laughed as she motioned them along and they walked in the throne room where his mother and father were standing.
Merida just walked up to her mother not doing anything proper causing her mother to groan as her father was smiling wide at the dragons.
"Elinor! It's Hiccup! Lad, ya have grown! Ya not that Wee lamb Merida would be with." Fergus laughed loudly causing the two to blush and look away from each other.
"Mum, Hiccup is not here to visit. It's bad. Aye knew aye shouldn't have gone out... But aye did. Aye was capture by a Viking named Ryker, he has the triplets! Hiccup saved me and he is here to help." Her father nodded as he motioned Hiccup to speak up.
"What can ya tell us about this Ryker, Hiccup?" Fergus eyes Hiccup.
"Well, your highness-"
"Hiccup, my lad. Ya father and ya knew our family for a very long time. No need for formalities. Fergus is fine." Fergus smiled.
"Okay... Uh, Fergus. Ryker works for a man named Viggo and he's looking for something called a dragon eye lens. We believe he's found on here in Dunbroch somewhere." Hiccup explained.
"Merida, ya need to stay here." Elinor glared at her daughter as she moaned.
"Mum! Aye needs to help Hiccup! It's my fault the triplets got captured, not theirs. Please, let me prove to ya aye can handle things. Prove to ya aye can lead." Merida smiled at her parents. Before her mother spoke her father stood up wrapping an arm around her daughter's shoulder staring at her.
"Are ya sure deary?" Merida nodded her head.
"Very well. Fergus." Elinor patted him to talk to Hiccup and his friends.
"What?" Elinor rolled her eyes as she stood in front of Hiccup and his friends.
"Hiccup, ya, and ya friends are allowed to help my daughter search for this 'dragon eye lens'. Bring my three sons back." Hiccup nodded as he went for the door but was stopped by Elinor.
"But... Under my daughter's orders, you will follow everything she saids. This way we won't have any troubles for ya guys with the other clans."
"Yes!" Merida jumped as she patted Toothless head and ran out.
"It this really necessary?" Hiccup complained as they walked to where the Fire Falls was at.
"Yes, my mother said so. Ya following my orders." She smirked at Hiccup.
They finally reached the Fire Falls and walked to the cave where Merida had looked through what she had seen.
"Do you guys know what these are?" Fishlegs picked up old Viking artifacts.
"Something old and useless?" Snotlout was snugged about looking through the junk they were all going through.
"No, it's old Vikings and Highlanders artifacts. What are they doing here, all the way up this mountain?" Fishlegs rubbed the back of his neck.
"Aye don't know. It seems to be here for years, aye never known this cave was here." Merida looked around and found the chest she found before.
Hiccup and Merida both walked up onto the chest placing both of their hands on it at the same time. The two of them looked up at each other and blushed to see they were touching hands and pulled away trying to make sure they didn't show their blush.
"What is that?" Astrid pointed at the chest.
"That is the chest aye found that scroll in." Merida pointed at the chest.
Fishlegs walked upon the chest as he inspected it and noticed the keyhole, it was like the key they used for the Dragon eye.
"Hiccup take a look at this." Hiccup kneeled next to Fishlegs noticing the keyhole as they both looked at each other.
"The Dragon eye key!" They both said at the same time.
"Hey, names Snotlout. You got a man in your life? A can be that man, I'm strong, big, and a Viking." Snotlout showed off his muscles to Merida as she rolled her eyes.
"This chest needs the same key we used for the Dragon eye back at the edge." Hiccup stood up as he smiled at Merida.
"The edge?" She smirked at him.
"Oh that... I have a lot to explain don't I?" Merida nodded at him. Behind them, Snotlout and Fishlegs both looked at each other and shrugged seeing the two love birds interact with each other.
"Hiccup!" They all turned walking over to Astrid as she had open a scroll out for all of them to look at.
"Wait that's... Stones that's where you saw the wisps, right Mer?"
"Aye, but this doesn't make any sense. This is old, this must be old..."
"Battle tactics..." He and Merida both looked at each other.
"These are not some nice old maps, these are our ancestor's plans to invade.." Fishlegs stopped as they saw Merida frowned.
"Mer, you alright?" Merida walked away as she stared at the entrance they came from.
"Don't ya understand Hiccup. These aren't ours... They were your ancestors... Our ancestors stole them from yours..." Hiccup walked up to her placing a hand onto her shoulder as he turned her around.
"Well, one thing I'll give your ancestors credit. They kept it away from enemy hands." He smiled at her. Merida couldn't help but smile back and the two walked out together.
Merida was starting to get worried since they couldn't figure out any other way to open the chest. Ryker had sent a Terror to them to give them what they thought to have the dragon eye lens for the triplets. Hiccup had a plan to trick Ryker into taking a fake chest that looks similar and gets the triplets back. As Merida got her brothers back Ryker was able to sniff them out of their plan causing Merida to run away from her brothers. She took refuge in the cave they found and had her brother hide. That was when one of her brothers steps onto a hidden bottom onto the floor leading into a room. All of them went inside where there was a scroll for her.
Merida picked it up as they ran out with Hiccup letting her know that Ryker was gone since her father sent help.
"Aye wish you could stay." Merida smiled as she held onto Hiccup's hand.
"I-I mean... You could come visit the edge... Nice waters, dragons, and..." Merida interrupted him as she kissed Hiccup. Hiccup was shocked as she pulled away letting a sigh out.
"Aye wanted to do that for a while. Since ya stay here for a couple of days..." She was blushing.
Hiccup didn't bother to ask her and pulled her into a kiss as they held each other. They pulled away hearing the rest of the gang awing at them, they both laughed as they stared at each other.
"This changes a lot." Astrid commented as she nodded at the two.
As Merida waved them all goodbye she opens the scroll up seeing a drawing of a white Night Fury and where it was written to be. She went back home to tell her parent she was going to Berk to help Hiccup out with Viggo. Well, she was going to make a stop somewhere first before Berk.
AN: Yup I made a short and this was an idea I've been wanting to make for a while. I've been watching Race to the Edge and I can't believe this show makes the third movies look stupid. The way the dragons are written and how everyone interacts with each other is way better than the movie. I might make a part two if anyone wants to see more.
