~Lost Family~
~Hiccup~
Hiccup had sat there looking ahead as he drew on his new paper a new portion of land he and Toothless found. As Hiccup sat back looking back at Toothless, he talked about finding another Nightfury. Possibly a family of them since Toothless wasn't the only one.
Hearing a screeching behind him, he turned around seeing his beautiful betrothal land. There she slid off of Eilidh where Toothless greeted the both of them. Merida smiled brightly as she rubbed Toothless's head, she looked over to Hiccup smiling at him as she went to her saddle.
"Afternoon, milady. Where have you been?" Hiccup went back to his drawing.
"Aye was impressing my parents by winning races. My mum isn't keen on letting me go just yet." Merida smirked, pulling out a What looked to be a wrapped fur cape.
"Wait… They're here?" Hiccup sat back up, staring at her.
"Aye told ya last night, but ya were busy flying around with Toothless." Merida smirked at him.
"Oh… haha, I forgot." Hiccup sheepishly rubbed the back of his neck.
"Aye know, here catch!" She threw him the fur.
Hiccup caught it with his other hand as he placed the charcoal pencil down. He raised a brow at her as she smiled. He opened it out seeing a brown fur cape along with a kilt. He placed the kilt onto his leg as he stared at the cape.
"What's this?" He looked at her.
"My parents brought it as a gift, well the kilt. Aye asked them to bring the fur with them. From what aye remember, a chief wears one no?" She sat down next to him.
"W-well yeah… It's just-" He cleared his throat.
"Ya don't have to wear it now Hiccup, it's something aye thought of ya." Merida spoke out first.
Hiccup relaxed as a smile spread on his mouth, he could always rely on Merida to understand him.
"Thank you, well thank you and your parents. But thank you M-Mer." Hiccup blushed as he looked away.
"Stop being nervous, if it's the kilt ya worried about aye'll have ya try it on once we get home." She smirked.
"W-well no, it's not that…" Her face blanked as she sat up.
"Is that why ya here?"
"Yeah, I've been avoiding my dad." Hiccup gave Merida back his gifts as he rubbed his ear.
"Oh no, what happened?" She gently placed the gifts next to her.
"Oh, you're gonna love this. I wake up. The sun's shining. Terrible Terrors are singing on the rooftop. I saunter down to breakfast, thinking all is right with the world and I get…" As Hiccup stood up he started to imitate his dad's voice.
"Son, we need to talk."
"Not now dad, aye got to ride into the sunset to goof off like the wee lamb aye am." Merida laughed as she imitated Hiccup.
Hiccup couldn't stop the laugh that he let out, shaking his head back and forth he pointed back at Merida smiling.
"Okay, first of all, I don't sound like that. What is this character? And second... what is that thing you're going with my shoulders?" Hiccup motioned with his shoulders as Merida shifted her shoulder up and down.
"A truly flattering impersonation. Anyway, he goes…" He goes back into character as he walks behind Merida.
"You're the pride of Berk, son, and I couldn't be prouder…"
"Aw, thanks, Dad. Aye would be pretty impressed too, aye have a Princess as a betrothal and aye Nightfury." Both Hiccup Merida laughed as they held their stomachs.
"When, have I ever done that with my hands? And when would I ever say that?" Hiccup motioned with his hands.
"Ya just did! Don't act like ya wouldn't say that." Merida crosses her arms together.
"Ah!" Hiccup kneels holding Merida's hands, getting her to stop goofing around.
"Okay... just... hold still. It's very serious." He tried his best to put a serious face on.
This only led to Merida laughing as she mimicked his face as well. Hiccup laughed, shaking his head as he stood back up once more.
"You're all grown up, and Turi is with Berk's guard… No chief could ask for a better successor, I've decided-"
"Chief! Hiccup, that's amazing! Aye'm happy for ya." Merida jumped to her feet as she gave hiccup a tight hug.
The two Heard a button being pressed letting Hiccup's back fin pop up, as Hiccup laughed pulling away he winds back up his back fin.
"Hey, easy. You're gonna wear out the spring coil. The calibration is very sensitive." He smirked at her.
Before Merida could pull him into a celebration kiss, the two were pushed by their dragons playing around. Merida fell first onto her back as Hiccup fell onto her. Lifting himself he stared at her blushing, he let out an awkward laugh as he quickly stood up lending a hand to help her back up.
"Yeah, so... this is what I'm dealing with."
Merida accepted the help as she smiled at him, she picked up the map he was working on and folded it up.
"What ya tell him?" She closed the book.
"I didn't. By the time he turned around, I was gone." Hiccup motioned with his head.
"Chief… Ya going to have a lot of responsibility, the map will have to be done later."
"Merida."
"While aye have to take care of Toothless since ya will be gone."
"Merida."
"Aye can help around as much aye can since I'll be-..." She stopped looking back at him realizing what this means.
"It's not me, Merida. All those speeches, and planning, and running the village... that's his thing." He motioned to an imaginary Stoick.
"Hiccup, aye don't think ya understand what it means to be a leader. It's not about speeches or running a village." Merida blinked at herself realizing what she had just said.
Aye sound like my mum… She thought to herself. She quickly shook her head as she looked back at Hiccup.
"What did Turi think?" Merida asked.
"Oh, you really want to know?" Hiccup started to intimidate his brother's voice.
"Little brother, I'm so proud of you! You'll finally be the leader you are destined to be!" Hiccup flared his arms around.
"Hiccup, ya know he means well. Turi is part of ya family, even if he isn't by blood." Merida explained.
"Look… I'm not like you or Turi. You know exactly who you are. You always have a-and so have Turi." Hiccup turned around picking up his helmet.
"But... I'm still looking. I know that I'm not my father... and I never met my mother... so, what does that make me?" He sat back down near the edge of the cliff letting a sigh out.
Merida shook her head as she sat down next to him, she took strands of his hair into her hands and braided his hair.
"Ya wee lamb. What ya searching for, isn't out there." She stopped placing a hand where his heart was.
"It's in here. Ya just too stubborn to see it." She giggled.
Hiccup rolled his eyes as he looked back at her, smirking. After Merida was finished with his new braid she kissed his cheek only to pull away in disgust. She wiped away the dragon saliva that was on her lips.
"Maybe. But, y'know... there is something out there." Hiccup sat up staring at the large black clouds from afar.
"Hiccup…" Merida groaned.
She stopped as Hiccup turned her head to look at what he was looking at.
After flying through the area to check it out, Hiccup and Merida only found dragon trappers there. As they were only flying around Merida was caught on the nets and was thrown off. Hiccup was able to catch her as the three of them went to rescue Eilidh. Or so they thought, there they meet Eret bantering then about their fort on how it was destroyed.
This surprised the two knowing that there were two other riders out helping dragons. But since Eret wasn't going to let them out easily, Toothless shot a blast towards the ice causing a distraction. As they all escaped, the two of them told Stoick what had happened. Hiccup even brought up Drago names which caused his father's face to turn pale.
Stoick had the whole island on lockdown even sending Merida's parents back home for their safety. Even Merida couldn't believe Stoick was sending her back, she wanted to help out. Hiccup didn't listen, being the stubborn person he is, and went after Eret and his ship to find Drago. As he and Merida landed they surrendered, trying to get Eret to take them to Drago.
Of course, Stoick followed the two, scolding his son. The two argued and Hiccup flew away going after Drago. Merida and Turi went after Hiccup since the two of them were worried about Hiccup. Astrid, being good friends with Merida, wanted to go after her to make sure the two would be alright but was stopped by Stoick.
As Hiccup flew over the clouds he screamed out throwing his arms in the air in frustration. There Merida found him flying closer as she smiled with sympathy.
"Aye, ya done?" He heard the sarcasm in her voice.
"M-Mer! What are you doing here? And… Turi?" He sat right up stuttering.
Merida rolled her eyes as she glared at him, while Turi smiled at his little brother.
"Aye told ya before! Aye will always be at ya side, aye'm here to help ya out Hiccup." She smiled.
"And I'm always here for you little brother." Turi gave a warm smile.
"Thanks, Mer and Turi." He smiled.
Before opening her mouth she heard Toothless and Eilidh growling at something. Both Turi and Merida looked over to their side seeing an armored rider looking at them.
"Hiccup!" Hiccup turned his head gasping at the mysterious rider.
As they watched the rider slowly sink back down into the clouds the two of them looked at each other. Hiccup leaned to his best friend patting his head.
"Okay. No sudden moves." He whispered, getting a huff from Toothless.
The rider briefed through the clouds revealing they were standing on top of a Stormcutter. Merida was quick to pull her bow and arrow ready to shoot at the rider. Hiccup lifted his arm, telling Merida to wait as they looked at each other.
"Hold on, hold on." He calmly spoke, even though his face said otherwise. Hiccup took a glance over to Turi as he stared wide-eyed at the armored rider.
Merida was snatched off her dragon causing Turi to yell out as another dragon took him off. Hiccup stared in horror as both his brother and betrothal were taken off.
"Merida, Turi!" Hiccup too was snatched off, causing Toothless to fall into the icy waters.
"Toothless!" Hiccup screamed, Eidlih used her ears to listen in a dive towards Toothless picking him up from the waters.
As a moment Toothless gave a low growl as Eidlih hummed back at him. That was when another dragon slammed into the two of them causing them to fall into the waters as Seashockers carried them away in the waters. That was when both Hiccup's helmet and Merida's bow resurfaced above the waters.
Hiccup was struggling against the grip of the dragon's claws. He looked around frantically, hoping Merida would be alright. Right as he looked to his right, he saw her there safe in a different dragon's arms. Then saw Turi to his left who was also struggling to get out.
"Merida, Turi! Thank gods, are you guys alright?" He smiled.
"Aye'm fine! Did Eidlih get Toothless?" She stared at him.
Realizing what she had just said he quickly looked over to the rider in front of them.
"HEY! YOU LEFT MY DRAGON BACK THERE! HE CAN'T FLY ON HIS OWN! HE'LL DROWN!" He yelled hoping the rider heard him.
The two of them looked at each other hoping that their dragons would be okay. Merida gasped looking ahead seeing a large ice structure, as all the dragons flew inside. Hiccup looked around as Merida was dropped first then Turi and then Hiccup. All three of them were able to tuck and roll safely as they all walked up to each other. Hiccup ran up to Merida holding her in his arms.
"You okay?" Hiccup checked her for any injuries.
"Aye should be asking ya." He smiled as they looked around seeing dragons surrounding them.
"Hiccup." Turi called to his brother as he stood to protect him.
"We have to head back for my dragon!" Hiccup stepped forwards only to be growled at by another dragon causing him to back up standing guard in front of Merida.
He wasn't going to let anything happen to her next. He pulled out his Inferno, lighting it up as he drew circles in front of him. All the dragons stared in awe as their heads followed the motions Hiccup did. Turi looked over to his brother watching him stop as he put his blade away. Knowing this Turi had Merida kneel with him waiting for Hiccup.
Using the Zippleback's gas that came out of his Inferno, he drew a circle around them igniting it up causing all the dragons to stop. The three of them stood up holding their hands up to show no harm to the dragons.
The rider moved out of their hiding spot, crawling towards them catching their attention.
"Who are you? The Dragon Thief? Drago Bludvist?" Hiccup questioned as he got nothing from the rider.
"Do ya understand us?" Merida stood cautiously ready to attack while Turi stood read as well.
As the warrior stopped, they swung their staff creating a rattling sound. There two dragons flew up dropping off both Toothless and Eidlih near their riders. Both Hiccup and Merida run-up to their dragons checking if their dragons weren't harmed.
"Toothless! It's okay. I'm glad to see you too, bud. You really had me worried there." Toothless licked Hiccup back.
"Ya not hurt? Ya alright." Eidlih answered by licking her dear friends as her ear flicked side to side for sounds.
That was then they heard the sound again, turning their head the two of them saw the warrior shake their staff. This sound it created commanded all the dragons to light their mouth giving light inside the dark caves. The Warrior looked towards Merida, dropping her shield and staff as she crawled to her.
Sniffing the air Eidlih stood in front of Merida growling at the warrior as it waved its hand in front of it. But nothing happened. Curious, the warrior went close with their hands down stepping little by little. Eidlih still growled as she stood there. Then the warrior tapped the floor with their hands, causing Eidlih to stop. Rubbing their hands underneath the chin, Eidlih was put into a trance and flopped over onto the ground causing Merida to gasp.
"Eidlih!" Merida yelled.
Turi ran towards Merida standing to protect his brother betrothal with his sword. The warrior stood back as Toothless ran in front of the warrior growing at them. With a wave with her hand, Toothless too flopped over into a trance as the warrior rubbed his tummy leaving all three of them in shock.
The warrior stood up, walking towards Hiccup with their arms sticking, there Hiccup leaned back trying his best to look intimidating.
"Hiccup?" The warrior stopped in front of them and pulled away as they crouched to the ground. Pulling off their helmets they revealed themselves as a middle-aged woman.
"C-could it be? After all these years?" The woman stood up.
"How is this possible?" She stared wide eyes at Hiccup.
Both Turi and Merida looked back at each other as they didn't know what to say.
"Do ya know her, Hiccup?" Merida raised a brow.
"How do you know my brother?" Turi held his sword in his hands.
"Uh, s-should I… Should I know you?"
"No. You were only a babe…" The woman looked away for the moment before she stared back at Hiccup.
Hiccup on the other hand looked at her strangely, as if he couldn't understand what she was telling him.
"But a mother never forgets." Hiccup stared wide-eyed as he was about to gasp. He was then shushed by his mother as she looked at all three of them.
"Y-your our mother?" His face was in shock as he didn't know their mother in their life. His hands slowly lowered as he felt tears coming into his eyes.
"Turi wait, h-how do we know ya ain't lying." Merida glared at the older woman.
Before the woman opened her mouth another rider ran in pulling their sword out ready to attack Hiccup. Turi didn't think twice as he ran to his brother yanking out of danger blocking the sword.
"TURI!" Hiccup yelled as he fell only to get caught by Merida.
"VALI STOP!" The older woman called.
Both of them didn't stop as the sounds of their swords echoed through the cave, causing all the dragons to growl back.
"Stop! You're causing the dragons distress!" Hiccup quickly stood back up as he lifted his hands up.
This stopped Vali from throwing his sword again, he backed off. Vali wore a gray fur hood over his head, hiding his face as he wore a dark Teal shirt with a dark gray leather shirt. He had dark brown leather guards protecting his elbows, with dark brown belts covering his waist. On his right, he had the same color page hanging there and on his left was his sheath.
He wore black boots that had light gray furs on top of it, his pants were dark green as he also had guards on his knees. He also had leather straps wrapped underneath the knee guards.
"Vali please. Stop. They're your brothers." She stood up walking up to him as he stared at him in shock.
"Brother?" Both Turi and Hiccup spoke at the same time.
Vali stood up, sheathing his sword as he slowly pulled back his fur hood. There stood to be a young man look to be almost the same age as Hiccup, Maroon hair color, and was slightly taller than Hiccup. Possibly by 2 inches, his skin color was slightly paler than his.
"My… Brothers?" Vali stood straight staring in awe.
After following Valka back to where she had been for 20 years, she showed all of them the dragons she and Vali have been rescuing these past years. That is when Valka got to see both Toothless and Eidlih, though Hiccup had to admit he shot down Toothless. Which caused both Turi and Merida to laugh. But that was when Vali came in riding on his Shivertooth greeting them.
"No way!" Hiccup smiled with glee.
"I would say the same with your dragon brother." Vali smirked as he slid off. But his dragon waked the back of his head causing Vali to yell in pain glaring at his dragon.
"These are my brothers! Try to behave!" Vali whispered to his dragon.
Both Turi and Hiccup laughed as they couldn't believe their brother had also loved dragons.
"This is Snowflake, a Shivertooth dragon. Funny, it seems your dragon left a little mark." Vali pointed at the scar across his nose, then back at Hiccup's metal leg.
"Runs in the family?" Vali smiled.
"I guess you could say that." Hiccup shrugged.
"This is wonderful! Bringing peace between Vikings and Dragons was in our family's blood!" Turi smiled.
"And you must be?" Valka looked over to Merida.
"Oh, aye'm Merida. Merida Dunbroch." Merida smiled.
"Y-you're a Highlander?"
"It's okay mother, Merida is not the only betrothal to our brother Hiccup. But she has helped out our clan at Berk many times. Our wonderful sister in law Princess of Dunbroch." Turi gave Merida a bear hug causing Merida to giggle.
Valka's eyes widened as she laughed as well seeing her other son Turi smiling with joy.
"Turi.."
"Oh right, here little sister." Turi let Merida down onto the floor.
"A Princess? Hiccup you have a Princess as your betrothal?" Vali stared at him with admiration.
"Well, it's just Merida guys. N-nothing really." Hiccup rubbed the back of his neck.
"You don't understand, mother told me stories about you two! She told me stories about both of you, I've never thought that the gods would bless us with a brother that is a god themselves." Vali motioned to Turi.
"O-oh… I'm just like you Vali I'm nothing special…" Turi rubbed the back of his neck.
"Hiccup, brother you have a Nightfury! I only wish I could impress both of you with something." Vali looked down in shame.
Both Turi and Hiccup look at each other as they stare back at Vali.
"Vali, you don't need to impress us with anything. Trust me on this." Hiccup stepped up to him as he patted his shoulder.
"Your family!" Turi being 7 foot tall pulling both of his brothers into a hug as he picked them up, holding them together.
"So what did your father think of your Nightfury friend?" Valka stared at all of them.
Turi let down his smaller brothers as Hiccup turned to their mother staring at her.
"He didn't take it well…" Hiccup rubbed the back of his head as Toothless picked up Hiccup getting him to laugh.
"But they all changed mother, I believed there was some way for peace just like Hiccup. Even father changed." Turi added.
"Everyone had dragons of their own at Berk, even at Dunbroch too." Merida added next.
"If only that were simple." Valka shook her head.
"It's true mother, even father has a-"
"Turi, Believe me, I tried. But people are not capable of change. Some of us… Were just born different."
From there Valka explained what Berk was like before when she was still living in Berk. That night Turi and Hiccup were only babies and when she was taken by a dragon.
"The three of you almost died that night, all because I couldn't kill a dragon." Valka looked at the two.
"It runs in the family." Hiccup admitted as he rubbed his arm.
"It really does, but I wouldn't ask for a different brother." Turi smiled.
After showing them all the Bewilderbeats, Vali hanged in the back as Valka walked over to where Cloudjumper was out. From there he stopped his brothers from walking forwards staring at them.
"Is it true? Everyone has a dragon at Berk?" Vali stared between his brothers.
"Yes."
After the three of them had come back from spending time with Valka, they all decided it was time to leave and find Drago. Even though it was breaking Turi's heart to leave their newfound family behind, he knew he wanted to be there for his little brother.
As Merida turned around to walk further a hand covered her mouth preventing her from screaming. Turi noticed that Merida and Hiccup weren't saying anything, pulling his sword out, and stopped seeing Gobber and their father there.
"D-Dad?" Turi stood there.
"Easy now." Stoick held his hand out to Toothless.
Hiccup pulled Stoick's hand away from his mouth as he stepped away.
"Are you kidding me? How did you get in here?" Hiccup stared up to his father watching him.
"The same way we're getting you out." Stoick handed Hiccup's helmet back to him.
"We?"
"Ow!" Hiccup looked over at Gobber holding his good hand while Merida had her hand on her mouth.
"Oh Gobber! Aye'm so sorry!" Merida gave an apologetic smile as Gobber handed Merida's bow to her.
"Hiccup, remind me never to sneak up on Merida again." As he shook his hand.
"Dad, how did you find us?" Turi put his sword away as Stoick pulled Hiccup through the tunnels.
"Toothless, Eidlih come."
"Dad! There's something you need to know!" Hiccup called as everyone else was following Stoick.
"Dad, it's really important!" Turi added.
"Yeah, yeah, tell me on the way." Stoick continued forward as Hiccup tried to stop his father.
"This isn't an on-the-way kind of update, actually…"
"I've heard enough, Hiccup. And don't think you're out of this Turi." Stoick looked behind glaring at his sons.
"B-but dad." Turi stopped climbing behind Hiccup as Merida followed.
"More of the earth-shattering development variety." Hiccup climbed over a couple of rocks.
"Yeah, just add it to the pile." Stoick squeezed through a tight space, as Hiccup was easily able to go through.
"U-uh, dad!" Hiccup continued with Merida and Turi right behind him.
Meanwhile Toothless and Eidlih had to carefully move their head sideways to fit the tight space.
"Dad, unlike most surprises I spring on you, this one you'll like. I promise! You have to handle it delicately, so…" Placing a hand onto his father's shoulder he noticed Gobber had stopped in place.
Turi and Merida were right behind also noticing this, they all watched Gobber face that was pale patting the Chief's shoulder as he went to sit down.
"Uh, you might want to take this one. Oh, boy." Not needing anymore, Stoick pulled his sword out ready to attack whoever it was that had Gobber looking pale.
"Dad! Wait!" Turi stood in front of his father putting his hand up.
"Uh, dad can you please put the sword away?" Not listening to his two sons, Stoick moved around as he continued forward squeezing through another tight space.
As he turned his head forward he gasped, stopping in his tracks as he couldn't believe his eyes. There stood his wife, standing tall next to a large ice structure staring him down as she stood there. Stoick dropped his sword as he took his helmet off dropping off carelessly.
"I know what you're going to say, Stoick." Valka paused as she avoided eye contact with her husband.
"How could I have done this? Stayed away all these years. And why didn't I come back to you?" Stoick at too shocked over everything his wife said as he stood there staring at him.
Meanwhile, Hiccup, Merida, Turi, and Gobber were standing at the sides watching the interaction between the two. Wondering what Stoick is going to do.
"To our sons. Well, what sign did I have that you could change, Stoick? That anyone on Berk could?" Slowly Stoick took steps towards his wife.
"I pleaded so many times to stop the fighting, to find another answer, but did any of you listen?" Valka glared as she pointed her staff at him.
"This is why I never married. This and one other reason." Everyone looked at Gobber as he said that. But Merida was quick to notice all the dragons slowly moving closer to Valka.
As Hiccup looked to his left seeing Merida next to Gobber, he looked over to where she was staring and saw Vali hiding behind the ice. Turi soon noticed too.
"I know I left you to raise Hiccup alone… But I thought he'd be better off without me." Valka seeing how close Stoick was getting close to her she slowly backed away.
Hearing a sword being sheathed Merida's eyes widened as she looked back at the chief.
"And I was wrong, I see that now, but.." Valka nervously hunched back shaking her head back and forth as Stoick was in front of her. She was on the verge of tears.
"Oh stop being so stoic, Stoick. Go on… SHOUT, SCREAM SAY SOMETHING!" She felt Stoick's hand on her cheek as her tears fell down.
"You're as beautiful as the day I lost you." Stoick tears fell as well, as she watched Valka cry letting the staff slip only a little.
He pulled her closer, kissing her lips as the two finally reunited after 20 years apart. Hiccup smiled in relief, seeing his parents come together. Only stopped hearing chips of ice fall. His eyes widen seeing Vali sword out.
"VALI! STOP!" Hiccup yelled.
"DAD! LOOK OUT!" Turi screamed next.
Stoick looked up as he jumped back, barely avoiding the sword that would have hit him.
"Vali!" Valka called.
Vali didn't bother with all the voices in the room as he charged after the man, Stoick jumped to the side as Vali stopped turning around swinging aging only to miss. Stoick kicked some snow up into Vali's face causing him to stop and wipe the snow off. Leaving himself vulnerable, Stoick threw Vali over himself making him drop the sword and having him land on the soft snow.
"Stop!" Valka was quick to run with her hand up trying to stop the fight from going on further.
"He's your son!" Valka's eyes pleaded.
Stoick eyes widened as he gasped, his body shook with every breath as he looked at the young lad sitting back up.
"My… Dad?" Vali looked back at his mother who was smiling at him.
"Didn't I tell you to wait?" She stared at him.
"I-I… Well…" Vali didn't bother arguing back since he knew he should have listened to her.
"NOT ANOTHER ONE!" All of them turned their heads watching Gobber walk out of the area.
"I didn't know… It was only after I was taken away I found out…" Valka stared at Stoick.
Vali slowly stood up as he stared at his dad, he watched as Stoick took a step towards him. Vali stood straight as he waited for the man to say something to him, Stoick just stared as he looked at Vali. What everyone didn't expect was Stoick to pull Vali into a hug, he then pulled Valka into a hug as they held each other. Finally, reuniting together at last.
