Reading my previous story Night of the Hunter is probably required to enjoy this properly. I do not own any characters from My Babysitter's a Vampire. Ethan and Benny will be the two main characters from the show in this story. Without further ado so I don't spoil anything. And please consider leaving a review.
"So we were only able to get a look at the book before Mr. Lark walked back in. Long story short, we have two weeks detention. Ugh I hate that guy. It's like he knows we're trying to stop him."
Ethan Morgan was sitting in his living room and recanting his after school activity from that day. He and his friend Benny were trying to stop their new history teacher Mr. Lark, who Ethan knew was actually a trickster, a demigod who spread chaos wherever they went. So far they hadn't figured out what Lark was after but they had scored themselves two weeks detention. Not too long Ethan who have been grounded for such a severe punishment from school. But now his mom Sam just frowned sympathetically and put down a plate of cookies.
"Well I'm glad you're just risking detention and not your life," said Sam. "So what did the book say?"
"Something about a gateway. The planets aligning and opening something up briefly," replied Ethan.
"There was writing on it I've never seen before. This guy is definitely up to something," added Benny.
"A gateway," whispered Evelyn to herself.
"Mom, you ever take on one of these guys?" Asked Ethan.
He had recently discovered that his mother had known about his abilities as a Seer all along. She was also not his mother. Ethan's biological mother was a powerful Seer named Julie, who had been killed on the night she gave birth to him. His father was a man named Jack, a hunter who rid the world of supernatural beings. Jack now ran the hunter's bar in Whitechapel, which other hunters used as a refuse and safe place. Jack was currently training Ethan to control his powers.
"No. I just offered a safe place to your parents. Er, your other parents. You know who I mean. Occasionally I'd go along but nothing like a trickster. Vampires, werewolves, elves."
"Elves?" Asked Benny.
"Nasty little things. They're tricky. Very strong with magic," warned Evelyn. "Is there anything else you remember about Lark's book?"
Before Ethan and Benny could answer Jack pulled up. He looked flustered. He got out of the car and hurried up to the porch.
"Just received word from a friend of mine in Toronto. The Key of Azman is gone," said Jack.
"Oh no!" Declared Evelyn, standing up. "Break in?"
"No sign. It's just gone. The display, the room, the other items around it. It's all gone. As if it was never there," replied Jack.
"Of course. That's what Lark wanted. The Key of Azman," said Evelyn.
"What's the Key of Azman?" Asked Ethan.
"Babylonian artifact. It could bring back the Pagan Gods. It'd be a whole new world. Also a mass extinction of humanity. A trickster. He came here to Whitechapel because it's where we used to keep it," replied Jack. "Evelyn, we don't have long before he uses the key," warned Jack.
"Of course. Boys. It's up to you. You need to stop Lark from stealing the key," explained Evelyn, leading everyone inside the house.
"Stop him? It's already been stolen," reminded Ethan. '
"Yeah. In Toronto," added Benny. "Which is not Whitechapel."
"He didn't steal it in Toronto. He stole it here. Boys, he went back in time," explained Evelyn.
"Time travel? Is that possible?" Asked Ethan.
"For certain beings yes. Humans couldn't do it. They'd be ripped apart by the travel. But a magician and seer could survive the trip," replied Jack.
"Us?" Asked Ethan and Benny at the same time.
"You two. Evelyn, start a portal," ordered Jack.
"Give me a second. Haven't made one in years," replied Evelyn.
"Mom, wait, can we slow down?" Asked Ethan, looking at Sam.
"Jack, Evelyn, this is not what we discussed when we all got back together. Ethan and Benny are supposed to keep us safe here. In Whitechapel," said Sam.
"They'll be in Whitechapel," assured Evelyn.
"But not here. In the present," added Sam.
"Sam. I know it's hard. Trust me I do. But they're the only ones who can make the trip. Look, you two have your powers. Get to the Key of Azman and get it away from Lark. Bring it back here to us," ordered Jack. "Simple."
"You won't look like you. You'll be disgusted as two deputies for the Whitechapel police force. That'll let you move around town easily," explained Evelyn.
She was drawing a huge circle on the wall. Ethan and Benny exchanged nervous glances. They were speechless.
"When are you sending them?" Asked Sam.
"He would have stolen it from the museum. Low security. It was only there for a month," said Evelyn.
"Yeah. They'll have to go back to February of 1995," explained Jack.
Sam gasped and went ghost white.
"The Whitechapel Massacre?" Asked Sam.
"We have no choice. We need to hurry. I feel a change coming," said Evelyn. "Boys, step forward."
"Woah, woah, this is really happening?" Asked Ethan.
"Get the Key and come back. It'll be at the museum you went to on that field trip. Benny, this is the spell for time travel. Do not lose this or you could get stuck in the past."
She had ripped a page out of a book and gave it to Benny, who folded it up and put it in his pocket.
"Ethan, a lot of bad shit is going to be happening in Whitechapel when you're there. Lots of dead people. Your mom and I will be there. Both sets of your parents will actually. Avoid anything to do with the Furniture King of Whitechapel. And especially avoid a man named Heller Mason. Do you hear me?" Asked Jack.
"I hear you," said Ethan.
"You come back," urged Sam.
"Say goodbyes. Quick," said Jack.
Ethan gave Sam a hug and Benny gave Evelyn one. Evelyn then recited the spell for time travel and the circle on the wall begin to fill with a blinding white light. Ethan and Benny stood in front of it and winced at the light. Ethan held out his hand and Benny took it.
"Ready to save the world?" Asked Ethan.
"I guess so."
They took a deep sigh and stepped into the light.
Here we go. Back to 1995. Please leave a review.
