Hey my readers, it's heroverse back again I know, so soon for once. I'm actually getting excited for this one. Writing this action scene was definitely fun. Hope y'all like it.
Once again thanks to avatar 330 for his new review. Hope to get more people interested in this story too, soon. Until then thank you to all of my readers. You're beautiful.
I don't own wolverine and the x men, marvel studios do and they're stupid for cancelling it. I do, however, own any and all OCs used in this fic.
Previously, on WTXM-CHANGED:
"Are you sure we cannot change your mind?" Ororo asked him, begging a little. Despite the pleading, Logan shook his head slowly.
Logan hopped back onto his bike and put his helmet on. "See you later." Kitty said, walking up to his bike. Logan nodded and gave her a hug and a discreet kiss on the cheek, making the younger girl blush. Logan chuckled a little and he kicked the pedal. The others parted a way for him. Logan nodded and rode off down the driveway. Once he reached the end, he looked back and saw his family waving at him. He gave a warm wave back before lifting his slim legs and setting off on the open road.
Flash.
In the distant sky, a shadow of a large bird spotted a motorcycle below in curiosity, watching it for a few moments before flying after it, making sure to keep out of the rider's vision. For a long while, the bird just watched it's target, studying it. After a while, the bird's exterior faded a little to expose a woman amidst its body.
In the midst of the bird, two blank emerald eyes lit up slightly at the figure on the bike.
"Logan…" the person within the bird said as the green eyes brightened in recognition...
Flash.
"Jean…" Logan finally said and tears came to his eyes. Jean floated down and stood in front of Logan, who now noticed that she didn't really have anything on. Logan held out his arms and enveloped her in a hug, which she accepted. "I'm so glad you're alive." He said happily as he just held her close. It didn't matter how she was alive. He could ask her all about it later, but for now he'd just hold her close.
After a few minutes Jean turned her head slightly and whispered in his ear. "Hey, Logan?"
"Yeah?" Logan said and turned his head towards her curiously. He froze in fear, however, as he saw the look of utter rage present on her face. Her eyes looked deadly and he could actually feel his bones tremble a little. He opened his mouth to speak but was interrupted as a blast of psychic energy sent him flying!
'What'd I do?' He thought in his head as he saw what he thought was the goddess of death right in front of him.
X-X-X
"You idiot!" Jean yelled as she blasted him again, making sure to avoid the mutant boy who she could sense a few meters away. "You abandoned our friends when they needed you! How could you do that to them?!"
"Hey, what's wrong with you?! Isn't he..?" Trevor said and Jean looked towards him. He looked at the woman with fear and slight anger but paused as he saw the same color as the blast from earlier swirling in her green eyes. Something in his mutation kicked in and he backed up instinctively in realization of her superior strength.
'Stay out of this.' Jean said to him telepathically and he nodded with a gulp. Jean gave a slight nod and turned back to Logan, who was getting up. She used a little power and launched herself towards her opponent, stopping a few feet away from him.
The clawed mutant groaned as he felt his healing factor working overtime on those fresh bruises as well as the bullet fragments from before that hadn't gotten out yet. "Me bein' there would've only made things worse, Jeannie! And you know it!" He said and he dove towards her, making sure not to use his claws in this fight unless he absolutely had to.
His effort was in vain because Jean simply repelled him with a small telekinetic wave. "That's bullshit and you know it!" Jean yelled and fired another blast, hitting him square in the chest. He cried out and staggered back. "Everyone respects you Logan! You're just too busy trying to be the outsider to see that!"
Logan wiped his mouth as those words hit him hard. He didn't really have a reply so he retaliated with a quick jab in her blind spot which she blocked and used a psychic blast to send him flying. He groaned as he fought to keep his claws sheathed. He landed and picked up some of the dust from his landing into his palm, enclosing it in his fist.
Jean fired a psychic blast at him again. He dodged it and used the brief opening to use a feint; bringing his fist up to her face and letting the sand loose, blinding her. She brought her hands up to her eyes to block the sand and Logan used the opportunity to sweep her legs. She fell on her back and Logan smirked, glad to have actually surprised her. But he forgot who he was fighting for a second.
Jean used the opening like he'd taught her to and concentrated on Logan's position. She fired a telekinetic blast at him, knocking him back a few feet and ripping his shirt sleeve. Logan gritted his teeth as he rolled on the ground and ended in a kneeling position. Jean gathered up some energy in her hands and quickly marched towards Logan, who finally popped his claws as he glared up at her.
Jean couldn't read his thoughts at the moment, but she knew that he had something sneaky planned based on that look in his eye.
Just as she was about to make contact Logan did something that shocked her; he flipped into a cartwheel motion, planted his claws in the ground and twisted his body into a spinning kick that sent Jean flying down to the ground on his left. Logan used the momentum to pull himself out of the ground and land steadily back on his feet. He looked over at Jean who was looking shocked and confused as to what had just happened.
'Wasn't expecting that, huh Jeannie?' He thought loudly. She smirked in response, Enjoying the fact that Logan wasn't making this easy for her.
'So this is how it's gonna be, fine by me.' Jean thought and brushed her shoulder. she felt that familiar voice in the back of her head start to egg her on. Despite her frustration, she couldn't help but look forward to fighting even more seriously with Logan. Back at the institute he was the only one besides Betsy who could stand up to her in a sparring match, meaning they knew each other's styles well. She knew that because of the scarring in his mind as well as Charles' barriers, that he was all but immune to mental attacks.
But she was still going to kick his ass..
Jean sped forward off the ground so fast that Logan almost couldn't see her. She instantly hit him with a psychic-powered haymaker punch that sent Logan flying through the field. He groaned as he winced as he felt that hit was even stronger than the other ones before it. He didn't have any time to rest, however, because Jean was flying right above his head! She then did a mid-air front flip into a downward double kick that Logan just managed to block with his claws to minimize damage before it sent him crashing to the ground. Jean landed about 10 metres away, waiting for Logan to get back up.
Jean smirked at the achievement of catching 'the greatest tracker on earth' off guard. She was wondering what the voice in the back of her head was, which was usually silent even when she used her powers, but now she was hearing during almost every move she made. She shook off the thoughts. Right now she had to focus on Logan, who the voice seemed to be interested in as well...
Logan groaned as he stood up. This new Jean was no joke. She couldn't move anywhere near that fast before. He should have realized from the start that simple tactics wouldn't have worked on her. He'd have to step up his game even more than during their training sessions. He looked at his claws which were still faintly glowing from that blast and came up with an idea. 'Worth a try.'
Jean was catching her breath, secretly proud of herself for how much control she had and how much she was schooling Logan. Back then, normally he'd have probably beaten her by now, using either a wall or trees, some kind of cover to distract her and that he could move around in for a finishing blow. Now she had the advantage in a mostly open field where there was little to no cover.
And yet he still managed to land a hit on her. She expected nothing less of Logan. Always the tactician despite his usual crude mannerisms. An added benefit of her sessions with him. (Not those sessions you pervs. The mental ones.) It seems that once he uncovered a few certain parts in his history, the more efficient he became in battle. But she still had the upper hand.
But what he didn't know, was that with her new powers came a few extra… perks. One of them being a psychic energy field that was capable of disintegrating bullets as well as protecting her body and increasing her physical capabilities, which were her biggest weaknesses before. Now she'd taken away his only advantage over her.
Logan looked back at Jean who was just standing there, waiting for him to make a move. 'All the good that'll do me, when she can read my mind and predict all of my tactics.' He thought. He looked at Jean and she was just smirking smugly as if she'd already won, which she could right now if she wanted.
Logan groaned as he felt more of the bullets fall out of his skin and onto the ground. He was feeling a little tired from getting shot so much earlier.
He rolled his right shoulder as three shards popped out and he pushed the pain to the front of his mind while in the back of his mind he realized that there was only one way to possibly subdue Jean.
Jean, reading Logan's mind as best she could, found that she couldn't fully access his mind thanks to Charles' barriers and his own mental fortitude. He always had a strong mind, almost as strong as a telepath and on par with Charles if not surpassing him in terms of resilience. But she didn't need to read his mind to know that his body was already pretty tired despite his physique, training and his mutation enhanced stamina. And while she knew better than to underestimate Logan, she wouldn't overestimate him either. All of the bullet wounds that he'd healed from earlier had already taken a lot of his energy, meaning that it was only a matter of time...
To her surprise, however, Logan looked her straight in her eyes, and actually chuckled. Jean looked confused before her eyes widened in realization as she saw his baby blue eyes darken and she felt his mind blank itself.
"Logan don-!" She failed to get out as a split second later she just barely dodged a flying kick from Logan, who landed in a skid before pivoting his weight on his right foot and spinning around to land a strong punch to her chest, which she guarded by crossing her arms and using telekinesis to soften the blow and the impact on the ground, but she was still sent flying back.
Jean groaned as she felt her forearms begin to bruise from that. Her telepathy wouldn't work on Logan when he was in berserker mode, since he was acting solely on instinct, but she still had one distinct advantage over him; He wouldn't use his- snick! And she was shocked as well as disproved in her theory as his claws popped out.
She fired another blast that he blocked with his claws and used the force to push himself to the side. He charged her again and sheathed his claws.
The Wolverine let loose a punch at his opponent's shoulder, which she blocked with telekinesis. Seeing the opening he landed a sharp jab at Jean's side, making her wince and cause her to lose focus for a second. Logan delivered a sharp hit to Jean's sternum, leaving her winded.
She used a psychic wave to launch Logan's other side back to restrategize and get him out of striking range. She focused her mind and came up with an idea to counter Logan's physical combat style. She concentrated and channelled a little power into her fists.
Logan charged forward with a snarl. He sent a fist on a collision course with her face and she countered it with her own, bringing it into a direct collision with his, causing a psychic kickback that pushed Logan and Jean away from each other and each back a few feet.
Logan was drifting between himself and the Wolverine at the moment. He probably wouldn't last longer than a few more minutes and he was breathing heavily, but he wasn't out yet. He looked into the eyes of his 'assailant' and saw something… more inside than just her. He wasn't quite sure what to make of it, but he felt the beast inside him sees it as a worthy opponent.
Jean was surprised that Logan was still standing. His persistence and relentlessness were definitely some of his most annoying traits to most people, but she couldn't deny they were also some of his most attractive ones too. She felt something in the back of her mind telling her to continue the battle, so she continued. Mainly because now, she was actually starting to get into this fight. This wasn't just her trying to rip Logan a new one to punish him anymore, this was a clash of dominance, to see who was now the superior fighter.
Both took a few seconds to breathe before looking at each other, one's eyes blue as the sea, the other's green eyes now glowing almost golden orange, and stared deep into each other's eyes and into their very souls, waiting for the other to back down. They both instinctively readied themselves. Jean's hands flashed with power and she smirked.
The Wolverine snarled and charged at the Phoenix (that's what the Wolverine's psyche is calling her, anyway), who flew up and blasted him with a telekinetic blast, which he side-stepped and jumped up, grabbing her leg. She looked down at him in surprise. Logan smirked and roughly tossed her headfirst into the ground, making a trench as her body crashed into the dirt. Naturally, though, it didn't do much damage. But it did do a little.
Jean/Phoenix growled at being countered so easily and fired a blast right where Logan was about to land.
'Time to even the odds a little.' Logan thought. He unsheathed his claws and crossed his arms again, this time slashing the blast in half and leaving traces of energy on his claws. Jean was shocked by this move and yet smirked at his inventiveness in the midst of battle.
Logan looked at his claws and smirked, glad that it worked. He looked at Jean who looked almost bug-eyed seeing him with glowing claws. "Impressed, Red?"
"Very." Jean/Phoenix said and her eyes darkened and her hands filled with power as she was finding herself almost impossibly getting even more interested in this fight. She was starting to get why Logan liked starting fights so much. This feeling was exhilarating.
Logan charged forward at full speed roaring as his claws exchanged strikes with her fists again, sparks of energy flying repeatedly across the field with each collision. But each time, the Wolverine was pushed back a little. He had to do something, otherwise he'd fall long before she did. He had to create an opening...
Jean came up for another clash, but this time Logan wasn't pushed back, instead he used all of the force his metal bones could muster and forced her arms up.
With her momentarily open Logan jumped and roared as he tackled her straight to the ground, pinning her. Logan grabbed her and slammed her into the ground, her energy and his strength causing her to leave a slight indentation in the ground.
Jean screamed as she felt her back hit the ground. She felt that anger rise again but shook it off and aimed a blast at Logan's head, trying to shove him off.
Logan dodged to the right and used the momentum to roll them to the right, kicking her off him with his left leg. Jean rolled over and used her power to slow her trajectory and land on the ground steadily. She was starting to feel drained. She'd never actually used this much of her power before. The last time she felt this exhausted was ironically Logan's first danger room session.
Jean let out a fierce cry as she fired a blast at Logan's feet. Logan did a front flip over the blast and tackled Jean down again, both rolling through the dirt. Once he was on the bottom, Logan used his arms and tossed her over him to the ground. He did a kick-up and got himself back on his feet. He turned around and dodged another blast that she'd thrown at him once she'd gotten up. She readied another blast and fired it at him.
Logan spun around the blast with some footwork and charged her at full speed. "Rhawhr!" He delivered a non-reserved punch to her face, which she recoiled from despite her powers blocking most of the impact. She went flying back and hit the ground dazed, not used to being hit full on by Logan. And she thought Scott was kidding when he said Logan would always hit him too hard during their training sessions…
Thoughts of her ex boyfriend were interrupted as Logan unsheathed his claws again and walked his fatigued body towards her. This was honestly the hardest battle he'd ever fought. Jean made Juggernaut look like a chihuahua. He could honestly say that his bones were exhausted at this point.
Jean grunted as she rubbed her face where he hit. Even with her psychic field she could feel it bruise slightly. The scariest part was that she felt him still holding back a lot in that punch. Just how hard could Logan hit? His fists were almost as lethal as his claws.
Logan walked up to her, claws hanging at his sides. "Down after just one punch? Still that same weakness, Darlin'. I barely even grazed ya, too." He said mockingly with that smirk of his. She glared at him until a thought came to her head.
This time Jean decided to pull a trick out of his hat for once. She smirked up at him with all the mischievous confidence she could possibly express. Logan looked confused until his eyes widened in slight fear as he saw her eyes blank.
"Oh shit!" Logan yelled out and he forced himself out of the way just as Jean shot up into the sky, a huge orange flame surrounding her body. The force of her ascent blew him back. He just barely managed to stay on his feet. He looked up and gasped at what he saw. Jean was surrounded by a huge flaming bird made of what looked like fire, but he knew from getting hit by it during their battle that that was psychic energy. What was frightening was the fact that her eyes were now bright orange and had lost their pupils.
Jean immediately dove toward him, the 'Phoenix' around her screeching as it flew.
Logan watched it carefully, waiting for the right moment. A few moments before connecting, Logan sheathed his claws, did a front flip over her and clasped his hands together, slamming them down on her back. The Phoenix dissipated and she went crashing to the ground, dazed. Logan landed then fell to the ground in a crouch.
Jean groaned and shook her head. She should've expected him to counter that move. She probably shouldn't have used it, anyway. She could feel the voice getting stronger in her head. She forced it back again and channeled her power again.
He took a deep breath and looked at her form, it was even brighter than before and The glow of it, however, sent him back to the day of the explosion. After seeing that, he didn't know why he said it, especially when he knew that this was a bad idea, and that it would possibly end with him suffering a horrible death, he said these next words anyway. "Jeannie, wait! We have to stop!"
At this her eyes regained her green pupils, though it was only faint. 'Stop? What reason could he have to want to stop?' She felt the voice trying to push her to continue the fight but she fought it, holding on to her consciousness. She focused her mind and the voice faded away. Her eyes faded back to their beautiful green. She sighed in relief and floated down to Logan, who sheathed his claws and walked towards her.
"What is it?" She asked him tightly, trying to fight the growing instinct to fight him that was making a good effort to push its way into her mind. Her eyes flashed orange for an instant.
"Are you alright?" Logan asked tiredly, though he managed to squeeze some concern into his voice.
"Yeah," Jean said with uncertainty. She could feel her control slipping. She'd never had to unleash this much power before. "What is it?"
"That glow, that one from your eyes. it's the same one I saw in my peripheral right before the explosion." Logan explained as quickly as he could.
"What, but that would mean that- aaahh!" She grabbed her head and bent over, feeling an intense headache take over her.
"Jean?" He asked in concern, though his instincts were telling him to back away a few miles.
"Run!" She yelled in a distorted voice, her eyes completely orange. She fired another blast at Logan who dodged as best he could. She fired multiple blasts at him. What surprised him, though, was the fact that most of them weren't even getting close to him.
'Looks like she's lost her shit. Guess I've gotta end this quick.' Logan thought to himself. He thought as he ducked around another blast that was actually set to hit him. 'Good to know she still cares.' He moved back from her to strategize.
He'd have to be careful. In her current state, any wrong move he made would mean an instant knockout for him. Hell, for once, he felt he might actually die. Their battle had decimated most of the field for several hundred feet around them. around them, meaning he had essentially no cover. Thankfully they were a good deal away from Travis, who he could just barely make out watching from the sidelines about 400 metres away. (Wow did they move, huh?)
Jean yelled and fired a blast stronger than any she'd fired before. Logan dodged it (barely) by using the old-fashioned method; ducking towards the ground. The blast missed and Logan picked himself off the ground, running towards a heaving Jean who was starting to feel the voice in her mind becoming a constant ache.
Logan got within striking distance when Jean reflexively sent him back with a psychic wave, not as powerful as the earlier ones, but it still knocked the wind out of him.
The Wolverine went back but not before he twisted his body and a flying kick hit the side of her head, leaving her disoriented. He stepped back and gasped from the hard blow. She leaned down to catch her breath and she finally felt something suddenly snap in her mind. She gasped and a look of powerful red rage shot through her eyes.
Logan felt like he was about to pass out, but he had to see this through. If he fell while Jean was in this state, then Tennessee might end up looking like Nevada. The Wolverine let out a sharp exhale and growled, charging at the powerful woman in front of him. In a split second he was in front of her, but just as he was about to land a disarming blow to her stomach when Jean let out a powerful shrieking cry along with a powerful psychic wave that sent Logan back 12 feet and onto his back, while also snapping him out of berserker. He let out a loud cry of pain that brought consciousness back into Jean's eyes.
Jean snapped out of her rage and looked around, wondering what had happened. She looked over at the now smoking (and not in the usual particularly good way.) Logan, and felt a little regret over that last attack. 'Why did I do that? I shouldn't have lost control like that.' She could tell that Logan was finished now after that. All of her feelings of rage and conflict and her loss of control were forgotten at the sight of his beaten body. 'Still, why did I?'
Logan stood up shakily, panting heavily from exhaustion and muscle pain, and walked slowly towards Jean, who was now looking at him with a worried expression and a regretful look in her eyes as her power dropped. He made it to about a foot away from her and looked into her eyes with a look that showed nothing less than exhaustion and accomplishment. She saw the kid from before ran up to check up on him. Sweet kid.
"You've gotten stronger, Red." Logan pointed out with a proud smirk and his eyes rolled back as he passed out in her arms.
"Logan! Jean yelled and held him up, using mostly her telekinetic power to hold up his heavy frame. She looked over at the young man who was looking at her in slight fear. "You should probably go home." She said a little awkwardly.
"Right." Travis said without a second thought and ran out of the destroyed field towards his house. He didn't wanna risk making her mad, no way!
Jean sighed and shook her head as she smiled down at the man in her arms, who was snoring softly with a peaceful expression. She stroked his familiar unruly hair. "What am i going to do with you?" She asked rhetorically and she kissed him on the cheek.
She then took a look at the field. She sighed at the sight of it. 'And he leaves me all the work.' She sighed and looked at his tired face that was trying to heal. She raised a hand to his cheek and frowned as she saw him wince in his sleep. 'Guess he was hurt more than I thought.'
She decided to try something on him. She cautiously brought a hand to his chest, fighting a shiver at how firm it was. She let out just a touch of energy into his body, hoping to assist his healing factor. It seemed to be working as his face became relaxed. Well, as relaxed as Logan could be, anyway. She sighed in relief then turned to the field. "Now for this."
Jean's eyes glowed orange and a faint orange aura surrounded her. She raised her hand and let out a wave of psychic energy. As the wave swept across the field, the wheat started regrowing throughout the field. Within seconds the entire field was restored, with a little added richness to the soil for the trouble.
She winced as she felt that pain in her head again. She'd have to avoid using her powers for a bit until she recovered. Now to make sure that Logan's motorcycle was in one piece and see if those riding lessons he gave her last year weren't for nothing.
X-X-X
Logan found himself on a battlefield, firing his M1 Garand at enemy troops who were trying to make their way through no man's land. He could hear multiple soldiers screaming around him. He couldn't make out what they were saying even with his enhanced hearing. It was all coming out as static.
He fell back inside the trench as a sniper hit his right shoulder. He roared in pain as the bullet tore his flesh and bled out a little. He stayed there for a few seconds then finally exhaled in relief as it popped out and his healing factor closed the wound shut. Now he was breathing shakily and was on the verge of going into shock.
"Logan!" He looked and saw a somewhat skinny man man grab his shoulders. He was young, with strong but boyish facial features. His eyes were green with orange flakes in them and he had light brown hair and good teeth. His uniform had holes and tears in it and it was covered in blood, but there were no visible wounds. His face was covered in blood and he had clean spots on his forehead and shoulders where wounds should be. The man's face lit up with this relieved smile as Logan's eyes regained their life. That smile then changed to one of pure enthusiasm. "Come on old dog, we got a war ta win!" The man said and howled in excitement as he ran out of the trenches.
"Sammy wait!" Logan yelled out and an explosion knocked him back.
X-X-X
Logan woke up with a gasp as he popped his claws out of instinct. Sensing no danger, he took a few deep breaths and sheathed his claws as he calmed down. He looked around and found himself in a decent motel room. He stood up and noticed he was shirtless. He then recalled his fight with Jean and wondered where she was.
He looked around. The room was fairly tidy. There were a few shirts of his and some underwear that definitely weren't his on the floor and nearby chair. He heard footsteps outside the door. He wouldn't smell them so he got into a fighting stance, popping his claws.
Jean opened the door and jumped slightly at the sight of the claws. "Relax. It's just me." She said calmly, now dressed in a pair of jeans (which was, in a way, ironic), a black tank top that said 'I love wheat' in dark orange letters, and his leather jacket. She closed the door and put the keys to his bike on the small table by the chair. She held up a small piece of plastic which Logan recognized as his card. "Sorry, but I borrowed your card. I would use mine, but I lost it a while ago and as you saw before, I needed a wardrobe change."
Logan nodded and took a deep breath. His claws sheathed and Jean sighed in relief. "Where am I?"
"Grace Motel, about six miles away from the field." Jean explained. Logan nodded in understanding. He didn't bother asking how they'd gotten there.
"How long I been out?" He asked her.
"About a day or so. You must've had a good nap for once." Jean said, teasing him lightly. Logan grunted lightly in recognition. "How you feelin'?" She asked him, moving to sit down on the bed.
"Like a crazy redhead punched my lights out." Logan groaned and rubbed his forehead.
"Well you shouldn't have made her mad." Jean said pointedly. He could see that there was some frustration present in her mind about him leaving the team.
"You're right, I shouldn't have left the house." He apologized. Jean frowned a little harder and hit his shoulder. He recoiled from the force of it. "Hey?!"
"You scared me, you idiot!" Jean scolded.
"You blasted me, call it even." He rebutted.
"Ugh!" Jean fumed and stood up. "You always make me so…" She turned around but was cut off as Logan wrapped his arms around her. All of a sudden all of that frustration at herself and towards Logan just disappeared.
"So... what?" He asked her gently with a small hint of mocking in his tone. She scoffed at him.
"You're a jackass." Jean said and sniffled slightly, wrapping her arms around him. Logan looked down at her longer red hair and felt felt relief that she was alive and alright. They just held each other for a few minutes, both of them happy to be back in each other's arms. She rested her head on Logan's shoulder. "I thought I'd lost you back there."
"That's my line." Logan said matter of factly. He rubbed the back of her head. "Let's sit back down. Somethin' tells me we have a lot to talk about." Logan said awkwardly.
Jean nodded and they seperated. They sat down next to each other on the bed.
"How did you find me?" Logan asked, starting with a standard question.
"I'm a telepath who can fly. Do the math." The telekinetic said dryly. Logan just nodded, accepting the answer without question.
"Where have you been?" Logan asked her curiously.
"Training. Learning about my new powers." Jean answered somewhat professionally.
"It only took you four weeks?" Logan said dryly.
"Well, I'm still learning. It's not like I can just magically control a shit ton of power so soon."
"And you went so far as to pound me into the dirt, why?"
"An experiment. I had to see if I could control myself in battle." Jean said craftily and Logan growled at her slightly. Jean just smirked smugly. "Luckily for us both, I'm more in control that I thought."
Logan was starting to wonder why he'd always found this crafty side of the now even sexier redhead so alluring. Then again, it was her nature as well as her looks that drew her to him in the first place. It was also something she never really expressed around frat boy, and you can imagine how much he hated that...
"You couldn't have just tried it out on Magneto or Juggernaut?" Logan grumbled slightly.
"They would've killed me if something had gone even more wrong than during our fight." Jean clarified, knowing that things could have gone worse. Logan let out a low exhale as he remembered her knack for getting him to forgive her. It still pissed him off, but he respected it regardless.
"You know I forgive you, Red. I can feel you in my head."
"Of course, though it's been at the front of your thoughts the last few minutes. I didn't have to do any searching." Jean said then her eyes became downcast. "As for the fight, I'm sorry about that. I lost my temper." Jean said apologetically, feeling a little bad about taking it too far, despite knowing how much Logan craved combat.
"Eh, not like I didn't give you a reason to." Logan said humbly. He then looked at her with a scolding eye. "Even if you did go apeshit."
"Look who's talking. I never realized how hard you could hit until I took that punch." Jean said, still feeling the phantom aches from that punch earlier.
"I never really had a reason to hit you before then." Logan said, messing with her.
"Do you have one now?" Jean asked him heatedly.
"Day's not over yet." Logan countered playfully.
"Uh huh. Keep talking Metal dick." The psychic said, playfully insulting him.
"That may have hurt more than the fight." He playfully winced in return.
"Yeah, well if I hadn't found you, you would've gutted a dozen farmers and made human-mutant relations even worse than they already are." She sternly pointed out.
"What was I supposed to do? Let them kill a kid just for being a mutant?" Logan asked her frustratedly.
She winced slightly at his reasoning but didn't back down. "No, but your usual way of doing things would've just made people hate mutants even more. Let me guess, you probably would've gutted them anyway, and traumatized the kid in the process."
Logan winced. He hadn't thought about that at the time. "You're right, as usual. I'll be more careful next time I go bringing six knives to a gunfight." He said firmly. Jean nodded in resolution. He then looked at her suspiciously. "By the way, how did you end up showing up at that exact moment anyway?"
She bit her lip as she thought of a better way to phrase her answer. "Well, the truth is that I'd actually been watching you for a while."
"How long?" He asked and Jean bit her lip and looked at the window. "Jean, how long?"
"About 4 weeks, but before you yell," Jean paused as she saw his anger and frustration rise to high levels. "I just told you I had things I was going through and I needed some time." Logan was visibly fuming.
"You were going through things? I thought you were dead! What the hell was so important that you waited 4 weeks to see me?!"
"I was protecting you, you idiot!" Jean shouted at him and Logan reeled back. Jean looked down guiltily at the outburst yet also sad that she'd avoided contacting him. "I'm sorry. I didn't want you to get hurt while all of that happened. I could've accidentally killed you."
"While what happened?" Logan asked and leaned forward, a teasing smile crossing his rough face. "And you know you can't really kill me, right?"
"I'm not so sure about that." Jean said unsurely. Logan looked confused. Jean sighed as she twiddled her thumbs.
"What do you mean? I mean I know you've come close on a few occasions, but kill? What exactly happened to you after the explosion?" He asked her skeptically.
"I suppose I should tell you sooner or later." She sighed and sat up more on the bed to get comfortable. She looked at Logan and stifled a giggle at his expression; like a little "It all started the day after the explosion…"
Alright, that's chapter 6. Sorry it's a little late.
Some good news, I'm back on FNH. Yeah, I finally got a clear vision for how I'm going to write it.
I'm going to try and do both at once, but my post times may get a bit screwed up sometimes. FNH chapter 5 should be out within the week.
Heroverse out. I need more people to review (sad face emoji)
