Hi. Welcome back. Here's chapter 3. Please enjoy.
By the way, the show I am also taking inspiration from is Fargo. So there's that. Though someone guessed Quantum Leap and that's a pretty good guess. Ethan and Benny did kind of Quantum Leap into the two cops.
THIS IS A TRUE STORY
The events depicted took place in Ontario in 1995.
At the request of the survivors, the names have been changed.
Out of respect for the dead, the rest has been told exactly as it occurred.
Julie stopped by the key and looked at it. She had her arms crossed and leaned in close. Ethan and Benny just looked at her. She felt their gaze and turned towards them. She smiled.
"Hi," she greeted.
"Hello," replied Benny.
"Do we know each other?" Asked Julie.
"Um, no, sorry. Just brain farts. We have to be going," explained Benny, pulling Ethan away.
"Nice to meet you," said Ethan.
"Same. Have a good day," replied Julie, turning back to look at the key.
The front door opened again and a nervous man in clothes that would have been more appropriate on a salesman from the '70s entered. He was pacing and biting his thumbnail. Julie raised an eyebrow and stepped forward. Ethan leaned towards Benny.
"She had a vision. Dad says she could read certain people without touching them," whispered Ethan.
"Sir, are you ok?" Asked Julie.
The man turned and smiled, crossing his arms.
"Oh sure, right as rain. No worries," replied the man.
"Jack," yelled Julie. "Come out here please."
Jack and Horace came out into the main floor and Jack cast a glance over at Ethan and Benny. He raise an eyebrow at them but turned to his wife.
"What is it?" He asked.
"This man here. Something is going to happen. He's in trouble," explained Julie.
"Trouble? No, sir. Just here to see the proprietor of this fine establishment. Skip Hutton is the name. Accountant. Was wondering if you needed some help with the books," replied the man.
"Um, no thank you. I've got an accountant, thanks," said Horace.
"Jack, trouble," warned Julie, as the door opened and three men entered.
It was Cobb, Brick, and Hess, sent by Arch Allen to retrieve Skip Hutton. Jack stepped forward, pushing his jacket back to show a gun in the holster.
"Help you with something?" Asked Jack.
"Mr. Hutton, your employer would like to speak to you," explained Cobb.
"What's that now?" Asked Skip.
Hess stepped forward. Jack did so as well, his hand going to his gun. The three men also put their hands to their own guns. It was a regular standoff.
"Do we interfere?" Asked Benny.
"No. This already happened. We can't risk altering the future," whispered Ethan. "Besides, what would we do?"
They both put their hands on the guns they had in their holsters, the instincts of their hosts kicking in. Jack saw this out of the corner of his eye.
"You want to involve them?" He asked, turning back to the three men and hooking a thumb at Ethan and Benny.
Hess looked hard at Ethan and Benny, narrowing his eyes. Ethan knew this guy was ready to fight right now. Luckily he wasn't in charge.
"You watch your back, Skip," warned Cobb.
He pointed out the door and Hess and Brick left first, followed by Cobb. Horace Greer turned to Ethan and Benny.
"Perhaps you two should call Constable Weir," suggested Horace.
Ethan and Benny froze, Horace's words tumbling through their heads. Benny turned away, putting a hand over his mouth as tears fell from his eyes.
"What's wrong with him?" Asked Jack.
"Rough day. We'll be going now. We'll get a hold of the constable. No worries," assured Ethan, pulling Benny out of the store. When they were outside, Ethan made Benny look at him.
"What is going on with you?" he asked.
"Ethan. Constable Weir. That's my dad. I didn't think of it before. February of 1995. The month he was killed."
Oh snap! I am playing fast and loose with the mythology. Oh well. Sorry for the slight delay. This story is tricky because of the main characters, Ethan and Benny are the only ones from the show. So yes this is an OC heavy story but its Ethan and Benny's story. Please consider leaving a review.
