Chapter 15
Blood As Cold As Ice
As Jane was being rushed into the trauma room of Mass General Hospital, with Maura running along side holding onto Jane's hand, reassuring her, " that everything is going to be okay, to hold on for a few more minutes and don't fight the doctors and nurses as they work on her." The bullet had hit Jane in her left shoulder, when she placed herself between Maura and the gunman. There was blood everywhere, Maura had quickly attended to her wife's gunshot wound, noting that there was no exits wound. Jane was looking pale and had passed out from the pain. Sam had been beaten, and had suffered a concussion, 2 cracked ribs and a broken left hand, wrist and arm. Both were now in surgery.
As Maura sat in the surgery waiting room, she was staring at her bloodily dress and hands. Thinking how happy they were this morning after finally deciding on names for the twins. Feeling someone's hand on her shoulder, she turned to see Constance sitting next to her "asking if she was okay? Did she need anything?" Maura shakes her head no, smiling weakly at her mother and the others who were waiting for new on both Jane and Sam. Sam's doctors came out first with new that Sam was going to be in surgery another hour. 10 minutes later a nurse came out to update Maura on Jane's surgery, stating that due to the location of bullet and it fragments it would be at least 2 to 3 hours more for her wife's surgery and then she would be moved to the Isles' suite of the hospital. Maura thanked the nurse and returned to the waiting room explaining to the others.
Korsak took Maura home so she could shower, dress and pack a couple of bags for Jane and her. Smiling as she went into Jane's underwear drawer, Maura remembering that since they had been dating, engaged and now married, that Maura had finally got Jane to have matching tanks and boxers in various colors. Maura would match Jane's shirts to match her dresses. As she reached in the back of the drawer, pulling out several matching sets of underwear and a cellphone. Maura recognized the phone as the one that Paddy Doyle had given her several years ago, when Colin was murdered. Picking it up she hits the preprogrammed number and hit the call button, Paddy answered on the second ring. Taking a deep, calming breath, Maura says "Paddy it is me, Maura. I need your help with a problem. Sam and I were kidnapped by the O'Malley gang, I was not harmed, Jane was shot resucing us, as well as Sam was badly beaten. The information about me being your biological daughter was told by Angela Rizzoli, Jane's mother. I need you to take care of Tommy and Angela Rizzoli for me, they have hurt my wife, me and our unborn children. Enough is enough. I will call you and give you the go ahead after Jane and I meet with both of them. Angela has a big mouth, and so does her son, Tommy. I have never asked you for anything, but I am now, can you please do this for me? Paddy says, "It will be taken care of, Jane and your family can rest easy, because you are now under my protection. Goodbye Maura." She quickly placed the phone back in its place, closed the drawer, grab several sets of t shirts and sweatpants and place it in Jane's bag and headed downstairs to hurry back to the hospital.
Several hours later, Maura was laying by Jane in the hospital bed, sound asleep. Constance thought it was adorable picture of them with the way Maura was tucked into Jane's side, her head resting on her chest with Maura's arm laying across Jane's stomach. Maura was protecting her Jane, and Jane had wrapped her good arm around Maura. Constance notice Jane was awake, she quietly asked "Jane if she was in pain or needed anything?" Jane answered "I got everything I need right here," looking down at her beautiful sleeping wife she softly pressed her lips to Maura's head. Maura begin to stir, opening her hazel eyes, she blinked a couple of times, as she looked up two a set of chocolate brown eyes was looking down at her, smiling she says, "Hi, my love you gave me a scare, Jane Rizzoli-Isles." Jane says " I am sorry Maur, I didn't mean to, I wasn't going to let him shot you, baby. Forgive me for scaring you, Maura, you and our babies are my everything." "Jane, my love, I am not mad or upset, I was just scared, you are our world." Maura says.
Both Jane and Sam were in the hospital for 2 weeks, finally being released to go home. Maura had offered for Sam to stay with them, but Sam refused. Korsak and Arthur helped Jane into the house and over to the couch where she could rest and watch TV. Constance and Kiki had brought in the bags, and Maura was in the kitchen preparing lunch, so they helped her. It was decided that Maura, Jane and Sam would have security details for the time being. Korsak and Frankie was both Maura's and Jane's. Frost and Nina was Sam's.
After lunch Jane asked if she could have a shower because sponge bath was not a bath and she was sure that grass was starting to grow in place that had accumulated sweat, grime, and dirt. Maura quickly grabbed all the stuff that was needed and set up the shower and bathroom for Jane. The shower felt good as Maura wash/condition Jane's hair, and carefully bathed her, dryed her off, applied clean bandages, dressed her and assisted her in put the sling on. Maura quickly cleaned up the bathroom, and returned to their bedroom. She found Jane had fallen with her upper body laying half on the bed and her feet resting on the floor. She gently woke Jane up and helped her get comfortable in the bed, gave her medication and crawled into bed next to Jane wrapping her arms around her wife carefully, both drifted off to sleep. They were both woken up several hours later to the ringing of the doorbell and someone pounding on their front door.
