Chapter 16
Blood As Cold As Ice
Both Jane and Maura are startled awake by the pounding on the door and the ringing of the doorbell. Jane bolting up unexpected after being startled awake was now wincing in pain grabbing her injured shoulder, swearing loudly. Maura was trying to calm and comfort her wife, whispering in her ear "to take slow calming breaths." Looking over at the clock on the nightstand it showed 4:00 p. m., realizing that Jane had missed her 3 o'clock dose of her medications. Quickly she got up retrieving the medications, a bottle of water and returned to Jane giving her medications. Both used the bathroom, Jane told, "Maura that she was feeling a little nauseous, and for her to head downstairs to find out what was going on, she would be now in few minutes," giving her a reassuring squeeze to Maura's hand. Maura just nobbed and left the bathroom, heading downstairs.
Arriving downstairs as her mother, Constance is opening the door, to see a man that asks "if Maura Isles lived here?" Constance replied "Yes and who are you?" Stepping into the foyer the introduce hisself, " I am Edward Dunn, Maura's husband, we were married several years ago in Las Vegas, but the next morning we decided it was best the get a divorce, since we were very drunk." Constance motion for him to follow her into the kitchen where Authur is fixing tea. Looking up as his wife and a man he doesn't know enters the kitchen. Arthur is about to speak, when Maura enters the kitchen looking very upset. Clearing her throat, Maura asks ,"Edward, to what do I owe the pleasure of your visit and why are you here, it has been over 15 years since I last saw you? And we are not married anymore."
Arthur asks "Maura how many spouses do you have, that Australian doctor creep, say you were married to him and now this man? What is going on, or am I losing my mind?" "Father, we made a mistake one night when I was in Las Vegas, got drunk and woke up married to Edward, we both decided to get a divorce and part ways. So, No I am not married to him." Edward steps up and pulls Maura in a a kiss.
" Get your fucking mouth and hands off my wife, you son of a bitch," Jane screamed advancing into the kitchen, pulling Maura away from him. Jane says, "Maura, do you know him?" And Maura says yes. Jane says are you married to him? And Maura says that she doesn't remember. That they were both really drunk at the time. Then Jane gets mad, says, "what the hell?" She punch him in the face and tells Edward, "she is not your wife she is mine and the mother of our children, you asshole." Edward tries to hit Jane, but she blocks his hit. As they are fighting Arthur and Maura step in getting them to away from each other. Constance had punched the button on the alarm system, dispatching BPD.
Once fight is broken up, Maura go to Edward, who thinks that she is coming back to him. Maura is furious screaming at him, " asking what is wrong with you, you try to hit my wife, who is recovering from a gunshot wound and surgery, you are a pathetic excuse for a human being." She quickly goes over to Jane, seeing blood coming through her shirt and know Jane has reinjured her shoulder. Edward is yelling "that they will be sorry, and will pay for it." As he is about to leave 2 rookie officers arrive and place him in handcuffs, and they quickly slam Jane down on the counter and place her in cuffs. She goes to speak and they both tell her "to shut the hell and or she will be sorry." They quickly dragged both of them out the house place each in separate squad cars and drive off. Leaving a crying Maura standing there, she quickly run gathers her phone making phone calls to the two people she knows can help, Cavanaugh and Korsak. Both tell her to meet them at the station.
