Chapter 17

Blood As Cold As Ice

As Jane rode in the back of the squad car, she was uncomfortable, fighting waves of nausea, sweating, in pain and she was furious at the whole situation. The two officers had got a little rough when pushing her in the car, her shoulder was bleeding and hurting. She had no idea who the new officers were and decided it was best to stay quiet and observed them. Knowing that once they arrived at the station, everything would be sorted out. She almost felt sorry for them, they were new and was trying to impress everyone.

As they were escorting Jane and Edward into the lobby of the police station, everyone that was there stopped what they were doing, mouth opened and staring at the site in front of them. A couple of the new rookies, said proudly, "that they must have made a huge arrest with the way everyone is looking at them." Before the others two rookies could answer, the angry, booming voice of Lt Cavanaugh was heard asking, " why was Boston most decorated homicide Sergeant-Detective in handcuffs, and who the hell did they think they were?" They stopped right in front of Lt. Cavanaugh, Korsak and their night time Segerant C. D. Boxer. Korsak hurry up and uncuff Jane, asking her "if she was okay?", seeing the how badly she was bleeding from her shoulder. Before she could answer, the sight of her very upset, crying wife, Maura came running in the front door of the lobby. One of the rookie officer stopped her from reaching Jane. This cause Jane to get even more furious, but before she could do anything, Korsak grabbed her told her to kept quiet, Cavanaugh would handle it.

Turning to the rookie officers, Cavanaugh he asked again "why was his Segerant-Detective in handcuffs?" Rookie Officer Peter Bond, spoke, explaining that it was a domestic violence call, pointing to Jane stating she threatened to kill her husband pointing to Edward Dunn. The sound of Cavanaugh, Korsak, Boxer, Maura and Jane laughing caused the rookie officers to look at them like they were crazy. Cavanaugh looked at Boxer asking "her where did she find these clowns at, the circus." She just shook her head, and answered "Not much to pick from, I am sorry about this Lt Cavanaugh." Maura goes to walk over to Jane, when she gets to her, Rookie Officer Brandi Hughes, shoves Maura away, causing Jane to grab the officer and push her to the side hurrying to Maura's side helping her up. The other two rookie officers Tim Vaughn and Laura Williams, went to go after Jane, but was ordered to stop and that nobody move.

Four rookie officers stood there with their's mouth wide open, not believing what was happening in front of them. Williams finally spoke saying to Cavanaugh, Korsak and Boxer, " with all due respect Lt Cavanaugh, why are you allowing this woman pointing to Jane, to be uncuffed, she is nothing but a common criminal?" Cavanaugh looks at all 4 of the officers, saying "I will tell you why, meet Segerant-Detective Jane Rizzoli-Isles, better known by her professional name Segerant-Detective Jane Rizzoli, the youngest female to make detective in the history of Boston and the most decorated. And the other woman you were about the assault is her wife, who is also the chief Medical Examiner for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Dr. Maura Rizzoli-Isles, also known as Dr. Maura Isles. They are married to each other and expecting twins, and they both are on Medical leave, because Rizzoli was shot in the line of duty. Now I suggest all of you apologize to them both, and ya'll better hope Rizzoli's shoulder is not damaged by the actions of all of you, that charges are not brought against any of you, and why in the HELL is her brace/sling not on her shoulder? Take the man to booking, Korsak drive Rizzoli and Dr. Isles to the hospital and get them both checked out and then take them both home. Boxer, you and these 4 officers in my office, NOW." All 5 of them fooled Cave

As Edward Dunn was being lead away, he screamed, "that everyone one of them would regret the day they met him, that he was a Dunn, his family has power in Boston and that they will pay for this."

At Mass General, the doctors had checked out Maura and the twins, everything was good, but the doctors were concerned with Maura's blood pressure and advised her to rest. Constance and Arthur had came to the hospital, bringing fresh clothes for both of them. Maura quickly got dressed, heading to the room where her wife Jane was being examined. Smiling to herself as she entered the room, hearing her wife swearing as the doctor injected the needle with of numbing medicine into her shoulder. "Language, Jane" says Maura. "Maura, you are killing me, with the language thing, work with here my shoulder hurts like a mother fu--," she was interrupted by the doctor starting to stitch her up. Once he was finished stitching her up, he explained "that she had reinjured her shoulder and she would need another surgery in a week to repair it," He gave her 2 shots, and 3 scripts one for pain, one for muscle relaxers, and a strong antibiotic. Maura helped her get dressed, the nurse brought the discharge papers and a wheelchair chair for both Maura and Jane and wheeled them out to Maura's waiting car, Korsak was in the driver's seat. Constance and Arthur followed behind in their car.

Arriving at their house, Korsak and Arthur helped a very drugged up Jane out the car, into the house and upstairs to their bedroom, Maura quickly fixed the bed for Jane, once Arthur and Korsak left the room. Constance helped Maura undress Jane and get her into bed, placing a kiss on Jane's lip, they quietly left the room. Arriving downstairs Arthur was making tea for them. Korsak had left to go back to the station and inform Cavanaugh of what the Doctors had said. After they drink their tea, Arthur and Constance excused themselves to the guesthouse. Maura shut down the house, alarms system was armed and she headed upstairs to their bedroom. She took a quick shower and slipped into bed cuddling up next to Jane, placing her head on Jane's chest and her arm on Jane's abdomen. She fell asleep to the sound of Jane's beating heart.
