Authors Note: As I mentioned in the description, this is hopefully the first part of a trilogy. I hope to be able to continue past this specific story, but please do be honest in your reviews if you decide to write one. I came here to learn and improve my writing, and if it's terrible, please do tell me :)
This story will center around a group of select tributes in the games. I have chosen four districts I believe to be "The most important" based on characters that appear, and it will follow the tributes from these Districts...at least as they live. I wanted to try and flesh everyone's story out, but upon revising the groups of tributes, I decided it would be simpler to follow these ones, as each one ends up with an important group of people throughout the story.
In the first chapter, we visit the reapings of Districts 10 and 11, meeting their tributes for the games. I hope you enjoy
DISTIRCT 11:
It is still early in the day as a camera pans over the crowd of District 11 children, so nervously await their fates. The camera eventually decides to settle on the Escort for this District.
"Now then, lovely to see all of your...lovely faces again!" The Escort attempts to sound cheery but knows, in reality, she's standing in a mucky District sentencing children to death once more.
"Now then, I suppose we should try and get this over with fast."
The crowd is dead silent as she trundles to the Female reaping bowl.
"Good luck ladies..."
She thrusts her hand in, digging about for easily ten seconds, before finding a slip of paper that seems to suit her, plucking it out of the reaping bowl. She trots back to the microphone as the girls of this District hake with fear.
"The Female tribute for District 11 is..." She dramatically begins to open the paper, staring at the name long and hard, looking over the crowd once again, "Willow Avery."
Sighs of relief go through the crowd as the camera tries to find Willow in the crowd. It soon becomes apparent as it focuses on one girl standing still as a statue, her face filled with shock.
"Come on dear, don't be scared!" The escort's voice booms over the crowd as Peacekeepers push through towards the girl, grabbing her arms and pulling her to the stage. As they drag her up the steps, her face changes from shock to horror, as she suddenly tries to struggle against their grasp. Eventually, the Peace Keepers force the girl onto the stage at gunpoint. Her skin is ivory brown, her long, dark hair flowing past her shoulders to her chest. She appears to be no older than 16. She appears to be looking across the crowd, searching for her parents, or friends, or siblings. The Escort trots over to the Male reaping bowl, this time getting more to the point and plucking out a name, making her way back to the microphone.
"Emmet Deeler," she announces to the microphone. Similarly to the girl's area, many sighs of relief go through the crowd as the camera tries to find the unlucky soul that had just been selected. It quickly focuses on a rather slender boy at the back, his face seeming to contemplate how to react to the situation. Peacekeepers advance. As one grabs his arm, he pushes it away.
"I can walk by myself, thank you," He says, setting off on a walk to the platform, all eyes on him as he makes his way up the steps, taking a place next to Willow.
"Willow Avery and Emmet Deeler, District 11's tributes for the annual Hunger Games!
DISTRICT 10:
Shortly after the reaping for District 11 is District 10. Many of the tributes look around, agitated, many in District 10 seeming to be more nervous than the tributes in 11. Talks of 10's curse have spread through the crowd like a wildfire, as in the previous five games, a tribute from 10 has always been the first to die. On the platform, the Escort for this District is sporting a rather large cowbell on a necklace, something that really doesn't match with the rest of her outfit.
"Let's make this snappy, the stench of cow shit is already burning my nostrils."
Many tributes remain silent as she quickly marches to the girl's reaping bowl.
"You all repulse me," she says quickly, bringing a scrap of paper she selected back to the stand. She takes a deep breath before reading the name out.
"Kendal Quillion!" she loudly announces, "Come on, I don't have all day, shift it!" She glares at random girls in the crowd. Eventually, a circle seems to part round a smaller girl with short brown hair. Her cheeks go red as she realizes everyone is watching her. Peacekeepers shove through the crowd, violently grabbing the girl and pulling her to the platform. She doesn't protest as she's dragged, seeming to have accepted her fate. As she is pulled onto the stage, the escort is already in the boys' bowl.
"Lamb Everhorn!"
Laughs suddenly begin to break out in the crowd, as many begin to shove a rather large boy at the back, clearly to his displeasure.
"IT'S THE COW!" Someone yelled in amusement as the crowd practically pushes Lamb towards the stage.
"Am I missing something?" The escort asks, "Am I missing something?"
The mayor suddenly lucks very embarrassedly, ducking offstage behind the Escort, running to Lamb as he gets dragged up.
"Are you ok? Are you hurt?" He asks frantically, "Please, there must be someone to take your place."
"Please dad, get out the way."
Lamb pushes his dad/the mayor out of the way as he walks up to the platform, the crowd jeering.
"HE DID IT WITH A COW!" Someone screams, many beginning to laugh even more than they were. Kendall and Lamb share a glance, as they are rushed off stage, a rock was thrown, narrowly missing the escort's head as the cameras stop the broadcast as fast as they can...
