「The Rise of Kylo Ren」

The secret side of me, I never let you see

I keep it caged but I can't control it.

He was the grandson of Darth Vader. Young Solo was unaware of his true lineage. His parents had decided to keep it a secret for his own protection. The plan was to inform him when he was older. He was now twenty-three, and he still did not know his grandfather's real identity. Damn, he sometimes even didn't know his own identity. His Master and Uncle, Jedi Luke Skywalker, had been training him for years. He knew the truth of Anakin Skywalker's past. He never revealed it to Ben. Maybe, if he knew that Vader was redeemed and that the light inside of Anakin Skywalker had returned, he would not fall to the Dark Side.

However, no one told him the truth. He was forgotten in the Jedi Temple with his Uncle, who was supposed to train him to become a Jedi. The only son of Rebel Alliance heroes Leia Organa and Han Solo, and Jedi Master Luke Skywalker's nephew and protégé, Ben Solo, had the potential to be a great force for light the galaxy. But not any longer. The moment Ben woke up and found Luke upon him, ready to strike him down. The Skywalker's legacy, that cast a long shadow of the dark side, won him over. Young Solo had Darth Vader's blood in his veins. Voices from both his past and future were trying to convince him who he must be. Snoke waited for him. The knights of Ren waited as well. He was shattered, he was reforged, and his destiny was eventually revealed.

Snoke's specific methods of seducing Ben to the dark side had started. The perfect Puppet of the Emperor was finally able to crack into Ben's mind. He encouraged Ben to not deny his true self, fostering Ben's feelings of inadequacy and expectations that he felt have been placed on him. He suggested that Ben should come up with a new name if he wanted to be accepted and taught by the Knights of Ren. He told him that fully embracing the dark side allowed one to become their truest self.

The Emperor's plan to draw Ben Solo towards the Dark Side was both well-thought-out and strategic in its timing. He realized what he could get from Ben by promising to help him embrace his true self at his most vulnerable moments. With his granddaughter lost. And his son dead. His only secure way to the top was Ben Solo. And his plan had finally found solid ground after Ben defended himself against Luke.

At first look, it appeared as the burning of Luke's Jedi temple had been Ben's doing. Arcs of lightning came from the sky and stuck and temple, causing the fire. Now, the lightning came at a peak moment of anger from Ben, having felt betrayed by Luke. Though the truth was, the lightning came from Snoke, taking advantage of the moment, making Ben think it was his fault, causing him to feel like there was no way to go but to Snoke himself and the dark side.

Ben Solo's path ended there in a place of fire and blood. A shadow rose and took his place. And if the time spending with Snoke wasn't dark enough, next came the Knights of Ren. They would welcome him if he could pay their price. And paid he did. He followed Snoke's insane ideas. From throwing him from a cliff with the only way to survive by using the force to tortures that are too cruel even to be listed.

Before his destiny was fulfilled, he fought at an ancient Jedi Outpost on the planet Elphroda - between Ben and those who know what he could have been and fear what he might become. Fear led to anger. Anger led to hate. Hate led to suffering. And it didn't take long for Ben Solo to be turned over to the Dark Side. At least there no one of the people he loved and cared about betrayed him.

Yet he was not done exploring one of the darkest and more terrible moments with the Knights of Ren. Their leader needed more proof from Solo that he could become one of his knights. He walked through the darkness and pain until he finally managed to bring Ben Solo to his fall. And Kylo Ren rose. His face was now covered with a black mask. His Jedi rope had changed with black attire. And now he finally knew that he was the grandson of Darth Vader. He had too much of Darth Vader in him. He heard one day his mother speak through the force. It was then when he blocked every communication through the force with her. Even if Leia tried, she would only find a wall.

What ironic was that despite all of his professions to serve the truth. He never found out the biggest truth. That Darth Vader had turned before his death. That the light inside of Anakin Skywalker had returned, he would not fall to the Dark Side. He woke up every morning scared he could never be as strong as Darth Vader. Kylo Ren was so drawn into his own fears he never felt the ghosty shape of Anakin covering him like a blanket and causing more and more conflict in him.

After successfully killing Ren and taking control of his knights, and adopting the name of Kylo Ren, the former Ben Solo paid a high price for the power of the dark side, becoming isolated from all that he once loved. He lived a friendless existence between a hated master and underlings he did not trust. His only goal was now to become a champion of the First Order.

Ren gained the title master of the Knights of Ren, having inherited his predecessor's command with Snoke's blessing. Soon after his new master's training, Solo became nothing more than a distant memory in Ren's life. He was the Supreme Leader's most gifted apprentice, as well as the embodiment of a new generation of dark-side warriors. The Emperor's plan was a big success. It took him too many years to crush Ben Solo.

When Ben Solo's downfall came, the fall was so powerful that the force itself felt it.

Ben's existence was agonizing. The force's rumbling and flashing caused the upper world to tremble, and the underworld opened, and the foundations were creaking. The force couldn't cover him any longer. The force's most stalwart one could not fit inside the splendor of the force. No sky could cave Ben Solo. The light and darkness got jealous of him. But darkness won and ambushed him from afar, wounding his heart and taking his soul. Leaving behind only a shadow. A shadow named Kylo Ren.

Ren's actions sent shock waves through his family. And soon, the name Kylo Ren brought the whole galaxy to be terrified of his name. Skywalker vanished into exile. He went in search of the first Jedi Temple on the planet Ahch-To. Organa and Han Solo separated, with Solo returning to smuggling with Chewbacca. Organa returned to a life of war, forming a band of soldiers known as the Resistance.

And war with the First Order started.

Everyone and everything forgot Ben Solo. By decree of the Supreme Leader, Ren's true name could never be spoken. Ren sought to put his past behind him, become immune to the temptations of the light, and claim his birthright by ruling the weaker beings of the galaxy. He strongly believed to accomplish his plans; he had to let his past die. Even kill it if he had to.

He was now Kylo Ren. He came to idolize Darth Vader and kept his grandfather's burned helmet as a shrine to the Dark Lord of the Sith's legacy, hoping to destroy the last Jedi as Vader had once intended and stamp put the last remnants of the light side of the Force. He was almost sure that the ghost of Darth Vader was with him. And he was not wrong. Half of his believes true. His grandfather's spirit was with him. Only not as Darth Vader, but as Anakin Skywalker. Every day he tried to raise the conflict inside him. Making his life a living hell. Hoping that the light inside him would win eventually.

But it took Ben Solo too long to fall. He had already walked through hell too many times. He had seen more darkness than even Darth Vader himself. And the everyday conflict was not enough to turn him. It would take a lot to turn Kylo Ren. He would keep falling through the darkness. And his acts would only bury him deeper and deeper. So deep that he would never imagine.

Though Kylo Ren changed one more thing, he modified his lightsaber upon falling to the dark side. He channeled dangerous amounts of power through a cracked kyber crystal. The crude design was an ancient one, dating back thousands of years to a battle between the Jedi and Sith on Malachor. Even with the additional quillon blades, the kyber crystal within could barely contain the weapon's power. As a result of the broken crystal, the lightsaber required vents on either side to divert the excess heat, necessitating its crossguard design.

Actually, there were two cracked kyber crystals he found on the planet of Malachor. The one caused the red blade to form into an unstable and fiery appearance. The other was an ancient black cracked kyber crystal that was never used by any Jedi. It would take a great amount of strength and force awareness to create a lightsaber created by the black cracked kyber crystal. The laser blade would be black colored, and the power it contained would be life-threatening. Kylo couldn't will such power or force and kept the ancient kyber crystal hidden. Until the right time would come, and Ben Solo would claim it.

Kylo Ren became an influential member of the First Order's power structure by his position as Supreme Leader Snoke's apprentice and enforcer, mirroring his grandfather's status in Sidious' Empire. His path was set. And the Emperor's plan had finally found its last act. Palpatine hadn't reckoned Rey, his granddaughter, and the dyad in the Force that would bond Rey and Ben. The girl that was sold and left in Jakku. The scavenger of Jakku was believed to be nobody. Would be the major obstacle of Kylo's Ren distraction.

Yet not the only one. The deed of Killing his own father, Han Solo. It would only advance the conflict inside him and shatter him into pieces. Kylo Ren would become unbalanced. Now the disturbance within him would scale to unbelievable heights—Leia's final words. And Rey's ultimate action. It would blast, burst, and burn the image of Kylo Ren away.

Ben Solo would rise again...
