I started watching through Gargoyles on tv. I never felt like it was complete enough and hated when it ended. So here goes my own shot at it.
Brooklyn crouched perched on top of one of the taller castle turrets. Wings wrapped around himself in defense of the bitter wind blowing so high up on the castle. Down below in the courtyard he could see his clan members and the Xanatoses either talking to each other or in the case of Bronx and Hudson throwing things for Bronx to catch. Which was a very modern game for a beast to play Husdon had said. But did it because Bronx enjoyed it. The beast was miserable after the initial joy of finally being home from their long Avalon journey. They hadn't figured out why yet. But Brooklyn suspected he might miss all the other gargoyles and beasts that he had met there. Oh he could totally get the being lonely part Brooklyn thought.
Down below Fox and Xanatos were talking to Elisa with Goliath and Owen before the Xanatos and Owen went out to a function in town. Fox was staying home with little Alex because she was tired and sick... pregnant again. With Alex being just shy of two years old.
That make Brooklyn cringe slightly. It seemed so strange that male humans would have their mates have their infants so closely together. Gargoyles could spend twenty years or more between eggs. Giving their female mates time to recover and enjoy the clans hatch-lings before producing more. He couldn't decide if it was biology and hormones or what that made humans want to reproduce so wildly. Well the hormones he could understand he thought to himself with something between a huff and a growl.
Angela and Broadway soared past him. Broadway veering closely enough that the wind ruffled Brooklyns hair causing him to growl again. Lexington and his mate Katsumi zipped right past as well. But with Lex instead grabbing the end of Brooklyns strong tail and giving it a yank. Pulling him off his perch and causing him to free fall for a few seconds before Brooklyn caught himself and glided down after them. Katsumi was from another clan and had met part of their clan during their Avalon tour. She decided to go visiting all of the other clans around the world with her brothers and sisters. Katsumi took one good look at Lex and never went back home save for visits. Her brothers and sisters were still out traveling and were in London with Griffs clan they had last heard.
"That was ridiculous Lex! Some hatchling level bullshit" Brooklyn snarled. Quickly catching up to the smaller Lexington and the much heavier Broadway and landing in the courtyard before them despite starting out last.
"Hey you won the race buddy" Broadway boomed in his loud voice. Slapping Brooklyn on the back which in turn only seemed to aggravate him more.
"I was not aware it was a race" Brooklyn said coldly.
Angela and Katsumi landing just beyond the males. Katsumi landing so softly and lightly a ballet dancer would be proud.
"Xanatos and Owen are attending a gallery opening. There is going to be some people there that he wishes to do business with. I would like one of you to escort them and keep watch from the rooftops outside. I want to be cautious in case any of the quarrymen. Or Demona, whoever else might take notice that the family is out in public" Goliath spoke.
"Well lad I had planned to stay here with the lassies tonight. They are wanting to keep Fox company" Hudson answered before heading back inside. Though no longer leader he really could say and do what he wanted. As they all loved their elder much.
"Broadway and I were going to go out and see if we couldn't get into one of the pet stores in town and get Bronx a squeaky toy or something" Lexington supplied.
"A... Squeaky...Toy...?" Goliath asked bemused.
Elisa laughing and shaking her head.
"Its a chew toy that makes noise, Bronx will probably tear it to bits in seconds. And then you two are cleaning it up" She laughed again.
"Well then I shall go if the trio is so intent on finding this squeaky toy" Goliath answered.
Elisa frowned and then put on a half smile. They had plans tonight together. This close to Halloween they could get away with Elisa throwing a costume on and going out on a date in public together.
"Ill go it's alright. I know you all have plans" Brooklyn interjected.
"Even though you are my second every bit of spare work and responsibility shouldn't go to you my friend. The other two of your trio need to start acting like the mated adults they are and pulling their weight." Goliath answered him.
Brooklyn sorted him off with a wave.
"It's better than hanging out with kissy face one and two all night" Brooklyn answered with a sarcastic laugh.
"Which one of the girls is kissy face one and two?" Broadway laughed.
"He was not referring to the females Broadway" Hudson called from the hallway.
Goliath and Elisa laughed at the two of the trios indignation.
"I'll follow you out after you leave. Its the graystone building right?" Brooklyn asked.
Xanatos and Owen agreed and watched Brooklyn take off, glad that the rest were staying home. The safety of their family paramount. It helped to have the gargoyles around. It lessened Owen's... or Pucks agitation at Alex, Fox and the new coming babies safety. Puck had been particularly worried as of late. Even contacting Avalon and asking for his restrictions to be lifted so he could use more magic proactively in their defense. That had gotten a hard NO until Puck had a face to face, or face to mirror discussion with both Oberon and Titania. David would have loved to know what exactly was said to change his mind. In Owens guise not Pucks he replied more problems were a possibility, but impossible to tell what the stony faced Owen meant.
David and Owen headed off to the opening of the gallery in one of the armored Limos. Getting dropped off by helicopter was just a little bit too obvious. Brooklyn heading out after them. Cars were slow compared to flight. So he dropped a small ziplock of cash and snagged some subs as he went out. Assuming it would be a long and somewhat boring evening till they headed home. The gargoyles thought it was very possible some of the street shops and food vendors knew exactly where the money came from and didn't put any time or effort into guessing how money appeared and food disappeared behind their backs on occasion. It was a start Elisa said.
Settling into a sill outside some skylight Brooklyn kneeled to watch and wait. Gargoyles didn't tend to view money or power as the end all of of existence. But they were paid well by the Xanatoses and considering they stayed at the castle most of the time each saved a considerable amount and kept a lot in savings. Well except Hudson who literally kept his hidden on the underside of some barely used bridge like a troll. Much to the amusement of the younger clan members.
Brooklyn leaned over to watch as Xanatos and Owen came in and moved through the building. There was the art gallery and food and dancing in the one hall. All very prim and proper. Snorting Brooklyn wondered how this was any humans idea of a rousing good time. So much talking, fake empty talking. Xanatos walked up to a smaller woman that had made her way in quietly. This might be the investor that Owen had discussed. Brooklyn had been expecting another male, not a female.
She was smaller for a human and dressed in a dark nearly black blue dress. That shouldn't have necessarily set her apart from the other human women in the room but for the fact that the dress reached the floor and covered her arms and body save for a small vee at her neck. Hair slicked back into a bun. No makeup. In comparison to the other human females she was dressed like she wanted no one to notice or remember her. And inadvertently stuck out like a sore thumb as Elisa would say in the room full of brightly colored skimpy outfits. The woman moved off then begging her pardon. Gliding to the edge of the room but not leaving. Brooklyn caught her watching and waiting before moving off to a side room. Owen said something to Xanatos and then followed in the direction of the female. Cocking his head to the side Brooklyn wondered what was up. Seeing that Xanatos was safely talking to some business men Brooklyn had seen before he decided to move windows to see what was up.
Getting to the skylight of the next room he could see the human woman pacing the floor. Owen came in then and shut the door, no shut and latched the door behind him. He wondered what was going on with that till the female rushed Owen. Hitting him like a ton of bricks. He was about to crash through the skylight until he realized that Owen and the woman were hugging, not killing each other.
"What the hell?" Brooklyn whispered to himself.
Watching Owen or Puck hold this strange new person like he would never let go made Brooklyn feel disgusted and annoyed with himself. Even the dam trickster had something going for him in his bland and stoic personality of Owen. The man had all the likability of stale bread and yet there he goes. They stopped hugging for a min, only for them to talk while the woman paced the room in agitation and distress. Throwing her hands up before putting them back on his hips. Having a mate would be nice he thought. Having the attitude that comes with the female of most species no. Owen walked to the woman and embraced her again, what was being said still too low for even a gargoyles ears to hear. A knock on the door broke them apart. With the woman quickly backing off and moving out of sight into a corner where the window drapes concealed her nicely. Upon opening the door it was one of the business men from before. Owen walked out of the room to rejoin Xanatos.
Brooklyn got a text that they were leaving from Xanatos. Handy things these things cell phones were. Expensive when one of the gargoyles accidentally smashed one. But handy non the less. Brooklyn texted back asking of they were ok if he followed off on a lead. While at the same time adding Goliath into the group text. Goliath and Elisa would watch and wait till the two got home. Goliath asking...well probably Elisa typing what lead. Brooklyn didn't know if Owen was reading the group texting. So Brooklyn replied it was probably nothing and that he would keep his distance.
Moving back to the skylight Brooklyn snarled and dug in his claws. The woman was leaving the instant that Xanatos and Owen did. Talking on her own cell phone as he watched her head out of the gallery. Lucky enough not to loose her in the building Brooklyn watched and waited. She didn't hail a cab or get into a limo outside. But walking further downtown and quickly at that. From his limited experience with rich and powerful human woman they didn't usually leave expensive art gallery dinners to go for a walk down town. She was either oblivious or stupid to keep heading in the direction she was.
"Great, just great. I'm going to have to save Owens human fling and he is going to blab to every one of the clan that I noticed. I really should just break off and head home." Brooklyn grumbled to himself.
Quickly the women ducked down a alleyway and then made her way into an old, but strong built brick building. The store front long closed but barricaded with heavy iron bars instead of broken windows or plywood. Wondering what she could be up to he watched as she punched some numbers into a very well hidden data point. That... is not good. She is up to something. Landing on the top of the building he looked for a way down and in. Hmm. Even the skylights were barred with iron and the rooftop door access heavy steel laced with iron by the smell. Owens girlfriend was either up to no good, or he was very afraid of something on her behalf. Oberon didn't look super kindly on Titania having fae children and grandchildren running about unsupervised. It dawned on him that if Puck had the same thing going on he very well might be worried about his human girlfriends safety.
Deciding that he should be sure one way or another Brooklyn took the heavy door handle in his claws and snapped it off as quietly as he could. Damit I hope she didn't hear that he thought. Going down the stairs he found the shadows in what looked like an apartment and hid. Then thinking he made a really poor choice. This place was comfortably furnished for a human. Owen was really not going to appreciate Brooklyn breaking into his girlfriends place.
He hung back into the shadows as the woman made her way in, again texting wildly. She looked no less agitated and frustrated than when Brooklyn had seen her in the beginning of the night. Sitting down with a flop on her bed she dropped the phone on the floor and looked at the ceiling for a second before going stone still. Without sitting up or moving she spoke aloud.
"Colin if you broke into one of my houses again without an invite I am going to kick your ass and drag you to Nonna for it" The woman said with a tone of familiarity.
Brooklyn panicked and froze. Shit she knows someone broke in. How am I going to get out of this without being seen he thought. Before he did anything the woman clicked a button on her wrist attached to a bracelet that Brooklyn hadn't bothered to notice. The windows and doors glowed red with the haze of lazer beam security. Sitting up and getting to her feet in a quick and smooth motion she stood facing the shadows where he was standing. Crossing her arms over her chest.
"I have had it Colin, I know you're standing there. Playing games is only going to really piss me off and I have plenty on my mind as is. I don't need more of this romantic melodramatic bullshit from you" She stated.
She seemed to peer harder into the darkness, then opened her eyes winder. She shouldn't have been able to see him in the dark. But she must have seen enough to know that Brooklyn wasn't the Colin she was referring to. Freezing for a half second she reached behind her slowly and then grabbed something off the bed. Throwing it directly into his face she bolted for the rooftop access at the same time. It caught him off guard and he snarled and eyes lit up. It didn't really hurt him but it gave her a few seconds advantage.
Racing to the top of the steps and roof access Brooklyn wondered where the hell she thought she was going to go. They were several floors up and this old building had no working fire escapes. She didn't stop running and she made the jump to the next building. Freaking out that she wasn't going to make it, fall die, have a frigging trickster pissed at her for causing his girlfriends death Brooklyn jumped after her. Catching her mid air Brooklyn rolled them both across the graveled roof. Throwing a dust of stone up he wrapped his wings around them both to protect her from the gravel. Rolling to a stop he decided this night was really, REALLY going badly. Looking down at the human in his arms and wings he was shocked to see she wasn't just scared. She was PISSED.
"GET OFF ME RIGHT NOW" she ground out in a low hiss.
"Hey listen I'm sorry for spooking you" Brooklyn started off saying.
Only for her to reach up and pop him right in the ear with a hard slap. Rolling him with her legs at the same time. The slap was disorientating and make his ears ring. Instead of running, crying, screaming, the usual human things she started throwing punches. At his face. And they hurt. Brooklyn rolled out from under her just in time for her to miss landing a punch that cracked the concrete below.
Free from each other she turned to bolt again. Aiming for a different rooftop this time.
"No you have to stop and listen to me!"Brooklyn yelled.
Snatching her arm and pulling her back. This time with her back to him he wrapped his arms around her and his wings for good measure. She was smaller, softer and nowhere near as strong as a male Gargoyle, maybe a very petite female like Katsumi, but not him.
"I am not trying to hurt you! Just fucking calm down! I am not a monster" Brooklyn told her.
Starting off yelling and then toning it down to almost a whisper. Yelling was probably not going to help make his point. The top of her head barely reached his chin and the hair that came loose during them fighting tickled and made him want to sneeze. She was holding still, huffing and puffing from exertion and anger.
"And just what makes you think I am not the monster and I won't hurt you?" She growled out in question.
Her voice now...a whole lot less human sounding. With that the hand that she had on his bicep started growing hot. Scalding burning hot. Hissing Brooklyn was about to tell her to stop when the woman in his arms cranked the heat and it started to melt through his skin and muscle. Brooklyn roared in pain. She hadn't let go even now that he dropped his other arm and wings. Out of pure base instinct he brought his teeth down on her right shoulder... hard. Her scream of terror and pain enough that both let go of each other.
Oh crap he thought, seeing her drop to the gravel in front of him. Blood running down over the ground, his and hers. He was fairly sure he'd keep his arm after a stone sleep. But she did not look good. Making small jerky movements and not getting back up or facing him. Before he could say or do anything further the sun peaked over the horizon turning him to stone.
