Breaking free from his stone sleep Brooklyn was momentarily startled by waking up and the events of last night. Rarely, very rarely did he end up caught from home without it being planned. Looking down at his arm he was further annoyed to see he had a nice shiny scar in the shape of a human hand print. The skin still pink and not fully healed but aggravatingly raw. Touching it he remembered acting on instinct and defending himself. Oh hell he thought. Very rarely did gargoyles actually bite anything. Even tiny hatchlings didn't bite each other or the clans adults often when teething and certainly not to break the skin. It was considered vicious and debased of character to do so without good reason. If he hadn't bit her the human probably would have melted his arm to the bone and taken it off. But still he probably killed her.
Fucking aye he thought. Looking around at himself and the dried blood on the ground. Seeing it trail up to the edge of the roof. She must have come around and crawled for a bit and tried to get home. Cautiously he crept up on her. Assuming with each step that he just killed a frigging human. One that was just panicking and trying to get away from him. Reaching down to touch her he was in for a surprise. She was still alive and breathing. Slowly and steadily but her skin felt scalding hot to the touch. Dried blood and gore leaked through the dress and the back was stained with crunchy parts where she must have laid in the warm October sun all day. When Elisa was injured and in the hospital the doctors and nurses looked like they took care cleaning and preparing the wounds. That must be whats wrong. The wounds are infected with him biting her and then her crawling across the concrete, dirt and gravel of the abandoned rooftop. Looking around he saw a fire hose and a spigot on the wall. Grabbing that he twisted the parts together and turned it on. Spurting water everywhere for a bit until it ran clean.
Dragging it over he started spraying the open wounds. What he could get at in the least. The ruined mess of her clothing sticking to the gore. With a hiss of frustration he tor off the rest with sharp claws and kept hosing her until to his good fortune she started moving. Clamping off the end of the hose he scooped her up.
"Great now she's freezing" Brooklyn said aloud, her skin cold and no longer bright pink. Wrapping one wing around her while he tried to push her now wild hair off her face. The skin contact made her open her eyes slowly. Taking her a second to focus them. Once the did they went from confusion to hostility in a snap. Brooklyn then dropped her right back on the rooftop and she made an ooofff noise when she hit. Her eyes blinking rapidly as she looked back up to him.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?" She grited out. Trying to roll and sit her self up. Only to startle and cover herself with her hands at the sight of her not bloody but now partly naked body.
"What did you do to me when I was passed out?" She gasped in horror.
Brooklyn picked up very quickly her accusatory tone.
"NO! No! I was asleep all day. I was just trying to clean your wounds off with the fire hose. You were all bloody" he stammered.
"I am going to kill you, you son of a bitch and then I am going to whatever clan your parents come from and kick their ass for having raised such a bastard" She snarled out at him.
"Wait, it was an accident, I didn't mean to, I am so sorry. You just really startled me" Brooklyn told her quickly. Crouching down and holding his claws out to her.
Scooting back away from him she almost hissed and snarled at him.
"You broke into my house like a creep and attacked me and chased me and forced me to protect myself. And YOU were startled?" she kept snarling at him, more indignant that he would say he was the one startled.
"I saw you with Owen and really misjudged what was going on, I had to figure out what he was up to in case it was a danger to the clan" Brooklyn tried to explain gently.
"I am going to be a danger to you right now asshole" She hissed. Getting up and not doing a very good job of it and stumbling. Shaking from anger and the cold.
Brooklyn caught her before she could fall and hurt herself. She did not like that. In fact she recoiled hard at the slightest touch from him.
"Hold on, I am going to get you to a hospital or something, whatever you humans need to do to get better" Brooklyn told her. His instincts to protect and care for the weak growing. And also feeling decidedly shitty for being the cause.
"You tried to attack and mess with what you thought was a human" She gasped.
"NO I was not going to do that, What the hell are you thinking?" Brooklyn snapped at her.
"One, why else do males chase females. Two I woke up with my clothing torn to bits. Three a hospital is not going to help me at all!" She uttered.
Giving her a little shake his eyes glowed for a half second.
"I am sorry, I thought you were a danger to my clan, I followed you. That went to shit to say the least. We have to get you someplace, you are really hurt and won't heal like me." Brooklyn replied quickly.
"Of course I don't heal like you. I won't heal like a human either" She stated coldly and acidly.
"Wait, what?" Brooklyn stuttered. Well fuck, this is not starting to make a whole lot of sense. Not that it made sense to begin with.
Reaching both arms behind his neck she pulled his head down closer to hers. With a quiet ''hold still'' she crushed her soft human lips to his face, beak more accurately and he froze in alarm. Looking at her face with her eyes pinched tightly shut. He was about to pull her the hell off himself when he felt her body warm, relax and melt into his. Oh god he nearly dropped her again. Every single inch of her felt so soft and warm and perfect. Tilting his head to the side he kissed her back not giving a flying fuck about anything else in the entirety of the world. Very gently she touched the side of his cheek and he was done. He dropped to his knees pulling her still soaking wet body underneath him. Running his claws over every inch of skin he could reach. Pulling her one leg up and over his hip. He felt her squirm underneath him and growled in pleasure. That was enough to make her open her eyes and shudder.
Using her leg as leverage she used it to kick him up and off her. Throwing Brooklyn across the rooftop. Smashing into the door to the roof access. Dazed for a second he caught his bearings and looked around and the human was gone. Huffing and growling he tried to calm himself down. Gargoyles didn't exactly have human biology. From what he was always taught is that mated pairs were given total privacy when they wanted time alone. NOW he figured out why. He probably would kill someone if they had interrupted him having sex. And he wasn't sure how that made him feel. He didn't have any idea that it felt this way to kiss any female this seriously. Before Angela had settled on Broadway she had dated both of them. And the polite quick kisses from her felt nothing like what he just experienced.
Straightening up finally saw where he had crashed into the door access. Smashed in the metal hinges were ruined and the door splintered. Suddenly a whole lot of last night and the start of tonight made sense. No frigging way was that a human. And she is gone just like that. He couldn't see her anywhere. This is bad, really bad he thought. Distinctly he could hear the beep beep of his phone. He likely had a bunch of messages and texts asking where he got to and if he was alright. Checking them he saw he was correct. With a sigh he texted back that he was ok. Followed the lead and would need to speak to Goliath and... Xanatos alone. Without Owen/Puck around. If that woman wasn't human all she could be is some kind of Fae. And that is just one of the many dangers Owen himself had suggested were possible. Until he figured out who she was and and what her connection is Brooklyn didn't want Owen to know.
Thinking about cell phones again he had an idea. Hoping back to the other building he carefully looked and listened to see if she had gone home. He would have been able to hear a heart beat. Well if she had one. He was never totally sure what the hell was up with the fae. After assuring himself she was not here he headed down the steps. Again it was empty. Upon second notice there were not many personal items. Humans seemed to especially like trinkets. Maybe Fae did not. He was beginning to think that this was not a permanent home. More like a safe house as Elisa called some of the houses they used to hide and protect people. The cell phone was gone or dropped somewhere he couldn't find. There were some clothes on the floor next to a bag. Picking it up and checking it out it was all very human things. Human styles of clothing as well. He was beginning to wonder if perhaps it was some sort of enhanced or altered human like those freaks in the pack. The clothing smelled of perfume or something. And it made him snort and think about her reaching up and kissing him on the roof. Shaking his head to break that thought off he dropped the bag and took off. Heading back to the castle quickly.
He could see Goliath and Xanatos along with Hudson waiting for him in one of the courtyards. Landing he quickly wrapped his wings around himself in discomfort. The new scar on his arm was very very obvious and off putting to look at.
"Nice to see you back alive" Xanatos said. A little sarcasm. A little joking. A whole lot pleased with himself.
"What lead did you go off on that kept you from coming back?" Goliath asked. Brooklyn knew it stressed Goliath if one of them got caught away from home. More so himself than the other young pairs who could just get caught up with each other and not come home.
Owens not around is he? Brooklyn asked. Standing up to his full height and looking around.
"The lead that concerns you involves him?" Xanatos deducted correctly. "Sometime after you texted and checked back in Owen said he had to go follow up on some safety issues that might arise".
"Honestly... it doesn't sound great. Just have to let you know that. I was watching you both at that art gallery. And after you met that women and she walked off then. Owen walked off after her too. He followed her into that side room... And apparently he knows her pretty well." Brooklyn told them.
"How so Lad?" Hudson asked.
Brooklyn couldn't exactly blush, but if he could he would have.
"I thought she was going to attack him. Instead she ran up to him and hugged him repeatedly. Then argued about something. She was agitated. He hugged her again and then the weird part starts. She hide so that other business man couldn't see her and Owen left." Brooklyn said.
Goliath and Xanatos looking back and forth at each other.
"Owen and Puck keep their private lives private. And I don't try and pry. Perhaps this enchanting young woman is a girlfriend or something" Xanatos stated.
"Enchanting might be the problem. I followed her to an apartment in the seedy edge of town. She walked the whole way. No cab or car ride. Alone. I went to check out her place and she caught me doing it." he told them.
"How on earth could you let your self get caught by a human" Goliath asked in annoyance.
"Because she sensed some other being there. Assumed me to be some Colin and started talking to him. And managed to see me in the near total darkness. And then everything went to shit from there" Brooklyn answered with some hostility creeping into his voice.
"What happened other than her catching sight of you?" Goliath asked his younger friend again.
"She took off running. I tried to calm her down and stop her. It... turned into a major altercation and we both ended up injuring each other. She wasn't just scared. She was furious with me. She threw punches with almost the strength of a gargoyle. Well maybe a small one. Then she ended up burning me nearly to the point of melting my arm off trying to get away from me" Brooklyn answered. More than a little ashamed of himself for a small female to get the jump on him and embarrassed to have to admit it.
"Burned how Laddie?" Hudson asked getting angry at one of his young lings being injured.
"With her bare hand. I ended up getting caught in the sunlight and it healed most of it. She has to be some kind of Fae third race bullshit to do that" Brooklyn said in disgust.
"Let us see then" Goliath ordered. Brooklyn really didn't want to show them. But he pulled his wings back enough for them to see the pink shiny new skin in the shape of a hand print.
"She could do that to the lad and she didn't stick around to smash him to dust after the sun rose? It makes no sense" Hudson growled.
"Nothing made sense and it was a complete and total disaster." Brooklyn answered.
He had decidedly let out the part about him waking up before her. And every moment after that. It was just too uncomfortable and humiliating to admit he probably would have mated with her right there on the rooftop if she had let him. And he was feeling pretty disgusted with himself for both feeling attraction to something not his own species and that he also fought and caused serious injury too.
The others looked back and forth at him uneasily. Owen had said there were threats imminent. But hadn't put any detail into the explanation.
"Did you get any reason for her to be so vicious with you, any reason for her malevolence?"Goliath queried him.
"She really did not like me breaking into her apartment and wanted to get away from me. But..." Brooklyn broke off.
"Out with it" Goliath growled at him.
"I dunno ok. Like I said I screwed up royally letting her see me and then chasing her. That was the part she seemed most pissed off about" Brooklyn snapped back.
Interrupting the clan leader and second Xanatos said "Perhaps its best we just yet don't tell Owen about this. We need to find out who she is and what she is doing talking to Owen. Perhaps Elisa could get a hold of the security tapes for us and give us a closer clue."
"Which security tapes?" Elisa asked, coming up behind them.
"A person of interest at the art gallery last night that Brooklyn saw." Xanatos explained.
"Kayy, Can you give me a description of the person? Elisa asked.
Brooklyns mind went blank.
"I..ummm. Human looking. A woman." he stammered out.
"That's it? Pal us humans tend to be diverse looking as gargoyles are." Elisa teased.
"I didn't really get that... accurate of a look at her" Brooklyn admitted. Well the parts of the evening he was willing to admit.
"No matter, Aside from meeting her myself Owen introduced us. She was absolutely lovely and very charming. She is the investor I was heading out to meet. Now whether that was her real name or her actual appearance that remains to be seen" Xanatos said.
"Charmin my red ass" Brooklyn hissed lowly.
"More third race Fae stuff you mean?" Elisa questioned.
"That is what it appears to be my love" Goliath answered.
"That's just great" she replied.
"While you go and check these security tapes I will send take the gargoyles out in groups to go see this place and see if we can find any more clues. In shifts, I would rather not leave the castle too unprotected. Brooklyn and Hudson with me for the first patrol" Goliath ordered.
With that they glided off. And Elisa and Xanatos had some security footage to look up. Without so far involving Owen and Puck.
