「Act 7: Rey Vs. Kylo Ren」
Kef Bir moon of Endor, 35 ABY
Rey followed the group to Kef Bir, and there they met a party of former stormtroopers led by Jannah. Finn was speechless at the realization that more troopers stepped back from the First Order. It felt that hope remained even for fallen souls. Rey used the dagger's blade against the DS-2 Death Star wreckage's silhouette and located the area where the Sith Wayfinder should be.
She wanted to leave right away, but Jannah warned them that the waves were too dangerous to cross at the moment. It would be safer if they went in the morning. Rey knew they had no time to spare. In a few hours, the Emperor would attack. And knowing Ren, he would be after them. Instead, Rey took a skimmer to the wreckage and climbed up to the area, which was Palpatine's throne room. Inside she found the second Wayfinder. After grabbing it, she came into the void. Where once was only sound, now sight was offered. A new dark-version of herself was made visible before her. She had to battle with a darker self until she escaped by throwing herself out of the room.
Rey stumbled backward and tripped. She fell against the ground, and the Wayfinder slipped from her hand. It slid across the floor as she scrambled after it lifting her hand to reach it. Yet, another larger, black-gloved hand got there first. The hand was familiar, and it caused her to stop breathing. She lifted her gaze and met with his. Kylo Ren stood in front of her as his shoulders were dimpled with ocean drops.
She forced a breath out, but now the despair was like concrete in her veins. She had just escaped her darker self, only to collide with Kylo Ren. Luck was not on her side today. Her bad dream was coming alive. Like destiny itself. She leaped on her feet, glaring at the unmasked Kylo Ren. She re-ignited her lightsaber, ready to attack him.
He took a moment and observed her. Was that the state he was hoping to see her? "Look at yourself," he said surprisingly, even to himself. He tried to conceal his early mistake "You wanted to prove to my mother that you were a Jedi." He took a large pause staring still at her. "But you've proven something else. You can't go back to her now. Like I can't."
Indeed he couldn't return to Leia. How could he ever face her? After taking the life of his own father. Yet, he could not grasp why the past still mattered. Didn't he let the past die? Didn't he kill it? What kept bringing it alive or who?
He was wrong. His words caused her to clear her thoughts. Ren didn't understand his mother at all. She took a step towards him, standing her ground and ignoring his words. "Give it to me," she ordered.
Ren's head almost tilted in confusion for a second; he was surprised that she was still resisting. Once he called her a fool for fighting against the darkness so strongly. Not a fool, brave. She was braver than him. Again he tried to ignore his troubling thoughts. "The dark side is in our nature." he offered again, "Surrender to it!"
Again, his efforts went in vain. She pushed with force. "Give it to me!" she voiced clearly. Her eyes pinned against the Wayfinder as Ren lifted it. She needed it to find Exegol and end this madness.
His confused gaze met with her deadly one. "The only way you are getting to Exegol is with me," he outlined. His grip tightened around it.
Rey shook her head in denial. No, no, no. Her inner voice almost screamed into his head. Yet he didn't stop. The Wayfinder shattered, and the broken remains slipped through his fingers. He opened his palm, only revealing dust.
"No!" she screamed. She and her friends risked their lives to obtain the Wayfinder. She felt as all hope was gone. Dark rage rose inside her and erupted, drawing her in. She swung her lightsaber, ready now to attack him.
He leaped out of the way as she stroke the first blow, and he dodged under the second and third. He stepped away from her blows. Again and again, but he didn't attack her. He didn't follow her to fight with her. He was there hoping he would turn her to the dark side. Hoping she would stand next to him.
Through her madness haze, she realized he was not attacking her back. That rose her fury and enraged her further. She boosted her attack, and now each blow was supported with power from the force. Her attacks only got worse and faster.
He couldn't any longer dodge her hits, and his own lightsaber was activated. Suddenly red blade clashed with blue, and his lightsaber brought to bear hers. The ruins of the throne room were filled now with crushing and humming clashes of energy. Again and again. She slammed and stabbed against him. He countered with effort matching her ferocity. He suddenly paused, offering more space between them. Ren stepped back and dropped into the shaft. She followed.
Both were unsure how they ended up outside the wreckage. They hardly even recalling traveling the distance. Yet somehow, they were standing on a bridgelike hunk of metal. Over them, a rusted and forgotten massive gun; beyond it was Ren's parked Tie. The ocean raged all around them, trapping them. But she went on with her attack ignoring all the danger.
Ren didn't want to fight her. If he could, he would stop this deadly duel she had started. But he had no choice but to defend and attack her back. It felt so satisfying to strike. Over and over again, their blades clashed hungrily for more. The impacts shivered into her being, bruising her spine and hips. Though she kept attacking, it felt better than hearing her own thoughts.
A familiar presence brought her back as she heard Finn calling her. "Rey!" he uttered, running worried towards her. He and Jannah had followed her. She had not to time to think it over. She called on the force and sent Finn crushing away from the fight. This fight was too dangerous for Finn, for any of her friends. If someone faced Kylo Ren, it would be her.
Finn ended up landing against Jannah. A new strong wave crashed down against them, cutting Ren and Rey from their side. He tried to run after her again. But Jennah pulled him back. It was too dangerous.
The sea powerful rose the tide around them. She didn't care. She raged against Ren, and the Force open itself to her, gifting her with new power. She leaped backward and away from the massive waves landed safe away from Ren. He followed her by using the Force.
Rey was determined, no one would escape until one, or the other was dead. Her attacks came stronger at a faster pace trying to break through his guard. It was impossible. She gathered more of the force and attacked him again.
He had to step back to avoid her attack. She was getting stronger and more aggressive. Now he started pushing with his own Force energy. He threw his thought into her mind. 'I know you.'
She felt her head aching, but Rey stood her ground. She glared at him and pushed her own thought against him. 'No one does!'
'But I do!' his voice echoed into her mind.
It only made her angrier. She could not withdraw her wrath. She screamed and went on with the attack. It was clear Ren was stronger than her. But she was fast. Their sabers kept colliding, as the fight seemed not to have an end. He pushed. She slid backward. Once, twice. Again and again.
Ren was also now fully drawn into the fight. His chaotic blade slowly got closer and closer to her face. She felt the tremor against her face noting a new oncoming wave. Suddenly she leaped high and far away and landed before a second gun turret. She watched the wave washing everything away. She searched around but couldn't see Ren.
Soon he appeared, walking towards her, water pouring from his face and hair. Somehow he had withstood the wave. And only by gazing at his face, he showed he could withstand anything. And honestly, didn't he? Withstand so much. During all his life, a race of holding in all the darkness, the pain, and torture.
She attacked him again. And he countered again. Her blows were getting slower. He noticed. Her hand smarted with every blow. Yet another attack followed and another block. Only this time, it knocked her off her feet.
Ren loomed over her and raised his saber. Deadly and cold eyes met tired ones. She gazed at him up. She felt that she would die in those forsaken ruins. Yet again, better dead than falling into the darkness as Kylo Ren had. She glared now at him, trying to dodge his hit, if possible.
She waited for the final blow, but it never came. Ren had frozen, holding the saber above her. His gaze was spacing out in the far distance, lost in the unknown. He felt the Force around him; he had heard his mother voice calling him. "Ben!"
He dropped his lightsaber, lost in the moment. Rey caught it, with the hope she was going to win. Through the Force came a mighty sundering. And Ren stumbled. Rey didn't wait. She pierced his own blate through him.
She won.
Though loss washed through her soul and existence, carved her out, leaving her empty and in pain. "Leia!" she said, lost and loud.
