Ally was trying to find her two best friends when she heard Lane.
"He's gonna be a doctor."
"Who?" Ally asked, finally caught up to Rory.
"I have a date with a future doctor to the hayride."
"Ew, you're going to that? You're kidding, right?"
"That's what I said."
"Oh my god!"
"What?" Both Rory and Lane said in unison. Ally was reading a poster on the bulletin board and tore it down.
"Nothing. Let's go."
"Ally, what's going on?"
"I'm okay, Rory. I promise."
Rory and Lane kept trying to figure out what happened this morning. They kept looking at other posters around the bulletin board to see what Ally took down but they couldn't find anything. Ally usually never kept anything from them, so it was weird that she did that. Every secret that she had, she would tell at least one of the girls if not both. Ally had been acting weird for the rest of the day and every time Rory or Lane tried to talk about the poster, she would change the subject.
"Ally, hey!" Lane ran up to Ally while she was walking into Stars Hollow Books.
"Hey Lane, I thought you would be studying with Rory."
"I was, but I found you first. Can I ask you something?" Lane asked while following Ally into the fiction section.
"Why were you acting weird at school today? What was on that poster? Why did you run off like that? Rory and I have been so worried!"
She was hit in the chest by a white and green book that Ally forced into her arms.
"It was this, okay?! If you really want to know, this was why."
A tall, skinny bald man came up from behind. "Shh. This isn't a library Miss Danes but I can't have my store sound as if it's a playground. You and Miss Kim need to lower your voices."
"Sorry, Mr. Thompson."
Ally started walking to the window, Lane shortly behind her.
"Ally, what's wrong with this book?"
Ally took a deep breath before turning around.
"Nothing is wrong with the book. It's one of my favorites."
"Then what's wrong?"
"It's who wrote it. That's my mom. And she's having a signing in Greenfield."
Lane had texted Rory and now all three of them were sitting in the grass outside the bookstore.
"Wait, your mom is the Laura Moore? I've read her whole Haven series!"
"Rory, that's not the point. Ally, why didn't you say anything earlier?"
"I don't know. It just feels weird. Dad never talks about her."
"Well then, how do you know that she is your mom?"
"I found one of Dad's old yearbooks. They were the cutest couple at Stars Hollow High the year before I was born. I think I'm in the picture too. You can see a teeny bump."
"What are you going to do, Ally?"
"I don't know, Lane. What am I supposed to do? Go see her and tell her that I'm the kid she left behind?"
Rory wrapped her arms around Ally, allowing the brunette to sink into her arms.
"It'll be okay, Al. We promise."
Lane awkwardly shuffled her way to her two best friends, creating a group hug.
"Yeah, we promise. Hey, why don't you write to her? That way if you change your mind, you can just burn it later?"
"Yeah, maybe."
