Laura was sitting in the bookstore, signing copies of her novel at the small bookstore in Greenfield, Connecticut. Ally was staring at the woman through the window. How was she supposed to tell her favorite author that she is her daughter? She took a deep breath as she walked through the door, hearing the bell chime on her way in. She grabbed a copy of the newest novel and waited patiently in line. Once she got to the first place in line, her fingers were petting the spine of the book similar to the many times that she was nervous. "Hi, I'm Laura. It's nice to meet you. What's your name?" Ally put the book on the table for her to sign, at a loss for words. "A-Ally. I-I r-really love your novels. I've read every single one. I want to be a writer. "

"Thank you."

After the book was signed and bought, she sat outside to read the signature.

Ally,

You can make it as a writer. Believe in yourself!

- Laura Moore

She closed the book as a single tear rolled down her cheek. She told Lorelai about her mom and Greenfield, but she didn't know how to tell her dad.

Lorelai was sitting in Luke's diner when he got a call. "This is Luke's. Honey, what's wrong? I'll be right there." He ran out of the diner, telling Caesar that he was in charge. Lorelai was following at his heels. "Luke, what's going on?"

"I need to pick up Ally. Are you coming with or not?"

Lorelai didn't say anything, just got in the truck on the passenger side seconds before Luke drove off.

Ally was still sitting by the bookstore when Luke and Lorelai pulled up. She had her arms wrapped around the book as if her life depended on it.

"What happened, sweetie?"

She looked up, hearing her dad and Lorelai. She ran over to Luke and aggressively hugged him.

"Daddy, I'm sorry."

Luke stepped away from his daughter, trying to wipe tears from her cheeks.

"For what?"

"I saw her. I met her. I couldn't tell her."

"Who?"

"Mom."

Luke just stopped. He saw that the book she was holding was written by Laura Moore. He looked back up and saw Laura in the bookstore walking out.

"I just wanted to meet her."

He looked back at a heartbroken Ally, eyes red and puffy from crying.

"Let's go home, Allycat." Luke was just about to get into the car when he saw Laura look at him.

"Luke? Luke Danes?"

"Hey, Laura."

"What are you doing here?"

"I came to pick her up."

"Who?"

Ally, who stood behind Luke, stepped out and waved at her.

"Our daughter."

Laura looked shocked, thinking he gave their daughter up for adoption about 17 years ago.

"Hi again."

There was an awkward silence until Lorelai spoke up.

"Hi, I'm Lorelai, Luke's friend. You have a great kid."

"Oh, uhm, thanks."

Luke just looked like he was about to get angry, a face Ally had seen only a few times when she got in trouble.

"Dad, let's just go home."

"Wait!" Both Ally and Luke were surprised when Laura said that.

"Can we go out for coffee sometime? That is if you do drink coffee."

"Sure. Maybe at Dad's diner. Is that okay Dad?"

Luke was about to say something when he saw his little girl's puppy dog eyes, something he could never say no to.

"Sure kiddo."

"What's Dad's diner?"

"I have a diner called Luke's."

"Really? Wow. Where's that at?"

"Stars Hollow." Ally chimed in.

"It used to be grandpa's store."

"Really? That old hardware store became a diner? Who knew?"

After Laura gave Luke her new information, the three got back into the truck.

It was dead silence until they were halfway home.

"What the hell were you thinking?"

"Dad..."

"Going to Greenfield by yourself and not telling anybody?! You could've gotten hurt!"

"I told Lorelai."

"You knew?!"

"She didn't know how to tell you. I would've made sure she was safe."

"Dad, it's not her fault. I saw a poster for her book signing at school and I wanted to meet her."

"You could have let me know..."

"No! I couldn't! Every time I ever wanted to talk about mom, you didn't want to talk about her. The only time I've ever seen her was in your old yearbook."

Ally was almost on the verge of tears as she became silent.

Once they got back to Luke's, Ally slammed the truck's passenger side door and ran straight for the lake.
