Pulling his head up enough that he could speak was rough. All he wanted to do now was kiss her and... at that train of thought he was about to duck his head down again when Cordelia squirmed and twisted her head to the side away from him. She looked up comfortable and in.. pain? No?
"What's wrong?" Brooklyn asked, afraid he was hurting her.
"You, you big dumb Gargoyle. Did I ask you to kiss me?" she snapped at him.
Realizing what he had done, again, it made him feel embarrassed and ashamed. She wasn't even a gargoyle for fucks sake. What the hell is wrong with him he wondered. Unwrapping his wings from around her and Pushing himself off her to flop over on his back next to her. Looking up at the night sky.
"I'm sorry damit" He told her softly. Just glad that she hadn't tried to kill him again.
"I understand its difficult. But you have to think with the brain in your head. Not the one in your pants." She said bluntly. With a sigh adding "I don't know why you seem to be affected so much worse. I am not even actively using my powers and your acting like that" She gestured at him with a wave of her hand.
Both laid on the roof. Looking at the sky. The sounds of the younglings below reminding them that they were indeed not alone.
"What do you mean by not actively using your powers?" He asked suddenly.
"Just that. I am not even trying to do anything. And you seem to be adversely affected. Even human hunters and the Orfeo don't respond that way." She answered him.
"You can make it worse?" He asked. Half afraid to hear the answer.
She broke out into laughter at then. Taking several moments to stop outright laughing. And still struggling not to break out giggling.
"Please. Go on. Its not like my ego hasn't been humiliated enough tonight" Brooklyn stated brusquely.
Turning onto her side, slowly because of her leg. She looked at him. At least they were managing to not scream at or kill each other. And her lieing beside him only accenting his view of her body. The roundness of her hips running into the dip of her waist and back up to the swell of her... He broke off that thought with a snort.
"I am a frigging succubus. Of course I can. I just... don't do that in my personal life. Even when I go out luring and hunting with the Macnamaras or Harkers I only have to put a little tiny bit of effort into it and that is more than enough" Cordelia explained.
The thought dawning on him. "They use you as bait?" Brooklyn asked in disgust. Turning onto his side to look at her. If anyone else was up on the roof this might have looked like they were close and intimate. But lucky for them the high roof line and pitch concealed them totally. And with her not screaming and trying to burn him alive was probably going to be the highlight of his night.
"My idea. And yes. It's what we do. Well Macnamara usually does the business side of things. But yes we all go hunting for the hunters and Orfeo all the time. Its all the Harkers live for sometimes I swear. But our hunting style is probably different than yours. Well hunting for real and for fun anyways." Cordelia explained.
"For fun?" He questioned. Wondering how much fun could be had hunting monsters.
"Oh, Harkers are forest witches remember. Harkers, Macnamara and Befana are all distant cousins in some way right? Well the vast majority of us still enjoy... you know. Running through the forest and chasing wild game" Cordelia told him.
Brooklyn thought on that. Prior to waking up from their stone sleep they had a life a lot more similar to that back in Scotland. But that was a long long time ago. Thinking about actually getting to go out and fly over the woods and run... That was not helping his hormones at all. His clan might currently be living in a massive city. But they were at their core Gargoyles. Even if some of them barely acted it anymore he mused.
"You know, I wondered. Do the three younglings from Merrow affect you the same way? I wonder if it might just be a Gargoyole thing" Cordelia asked.
"Which ones? The Cabbage colored freckled ones or the blond, brunette and the red head that your brothers, No cousins brought home." He asked.
"The blond, brunette and redhead" She wondered.
"I noticed... something. When the two...Gisle and Cira..Ciara..., When those two stopped me on the steps. But I couldn't put my claw on it. And they were being annoying and I walked off after you" Brooklyn told her.
"Huh. Well I thought if I affect you that they must too. But apparently not" She mused.
"Are they sucubuses too?" He asked.
"Them? Oh no. They still have the ability to lure and beguile. But not like me. Wait... you don't know what they are do you?" Cordeila asked with a grin.
Brooklyn shrugged. He could barely tell what Fae was what. Witches were way over his head.
"Merrow is irish for mermaid. They are different kinds of mermaids." She told him grinning.
"Huh. I didn't know mermaids had feathered wings" Brooklyn said.
"Oh that ones a siren. They do. The redhead is probably what you are thinking of like in the kids movies. The brown haired one is a selkie." Cordelia explained.
"You don't seem to mind telling me what they are. Why were you weird talking about what you are?" He asked.
"Because they aren't scary as shit monsters that can suck the very life out of someone. Oh yeah let me lead off with that. Hey, hi, I'm Cora. I could kill your whole family in seconds and leave your shriveled husk corpse happy about it" Cordeila snapped.
"The fire is...uncomfortable. Your attitude is scary. The rest of you...not so much. You look like a cute little cupcake" Brooklyn laughed.
"Really" She said with a growl.
"Really" He replied. Knowing he was annoying her a little bit and that made him happy.
Cordeila pushed herself up and leaned over Brooklyn in an instant. Putting one hand over his shoulders by each side of his head. He stopped breathing for a second, then two. Then his lungs started working erratically at best. Her hair and face... It was like she took off a mask of herself. She was breathtakingly beautiful. He couldn't see the rest of her body but wrapping his claws around her waist it felt somehow perfect as it plumbed out again to her wider hips. Her hair was a long rich brown and slightly curling at the ends. Her eyes going a deeper shade of hazel at first. And her lips pink and wet. Making him wonder what it would feel like to have her kiss him back. Everywhere. At that thought he pulled her down on top of him tight to his body. Wrapping a wing around her as well so she couldn't back off again.
"A cupcake? This looks like a cupcake?" She asked.
Before Brooklyn could try and form words her eyes shifted again. Going a shiny inky black. With no Pupals or whites. Just solid shiny black. Smudges of black around the eyes like eyeliner.
"I look like a demon. Its hardly cute" She snarled at him.
Brooklyn didn't answer. He was debating in his mind if she would freak out and kill him if he tried to pull her clothing off right here. Or just how far away from the crowded house he could get with her before he lost control of himself. His hormones and instincts screaming at him that this was a great idea. She was watching him watching her. When she leaned on his chest to free up her one hand to touch the side of his face and down his neck. Without saying anything else she leaned down and kissed him. Tilting her mouth to the side and opening it slightly. He though his heart might explode out of his chest as he kissed her back. Growling low and deep in his throat. He reached down and grabbed her by the hips. Grinding her against him and listened to he moan as he did that.
Brooklyn flipped her again so he was on top of her. Cordelia wrapping her arms around him and pulling him closer and between her jean covered legs. Touching his hair and down his back gently. He could feel how warm she was already and reached to unzip her coat. His claws not functioning correctly he instead curled them inward and sliced it off into ribbons. Then went to do the same to her jeans and sweater. At that moment a foot ball wizzed over head distracting them both with the shouts and yells as someone had to run around the side of the house to get it. Both looking at each other in shock realizing that if one of her cousins flew over the roof instead they would get an eyeful of them trying to fuck each other on a roof with a clan full of people below.
Cordelia pushed him up and off her. Her eyes instantly going hazel again.
"I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry. I shouldn't have done that to you. I'm sorry" She repeated over and over again.
"Stop, its. No. Its fine. Get back here" Brooklyn tried to sooth her into his arms again.
With a hiss Cordeila grabbed him hard by the shoulder and using one leg to kick off flipped him over the pitch of the roof. Sending him crashing down into the remnants of the deck with a crunch of wood and metal tearing sounds. Pulling himself up with a snarl. His eyes glowing white for a second. The football bashed him in the face. Followed by the plate Cordelia had carried up to the roof. One of her cousins yelling that the extra point was good. Brooking roared at him in anger.
Cordeila popped her head up over the peak of the roof and yelled to down below. "We were just sparing. He lost. But feel free if anyone of you wants to try" She laughed.
Brooklyn couldn't decide at first if he wanted to kill her or be impressed by her improvisation of the situation. The thought of someone new to spare with was apparently enticing. As half the Harkers got up and as did all three of the Macnamaras.
"Just don't hurt any of my younglings. Or Ill burn you to a crispy critter. Got it?" Cordelia said with a laugh.
"Who the fuck said I wanted in on this?" Brooklyn demanded. Looking up to the roof where she was perched. Where he had been just a little while ago.
"Saying that is just like an open invitation to them" she yelled down.
Nope. Defiantly want to kill her now Brooklyn thought. Gio...Or was it Antoni came at him first and with a growl Brooklyn fought back. Not that he really wanted to horse around with them. But because he wasn't sure what they would do if he refused.
Cordeila watched from the peak of the roof for a few rounds. Colin, Gio and Antoni were a closer match. Johnathan and the other Harkers took a few one on one turns. Not fairing as well as the first three. Then like magic several seemingly vanished into thin air.
"What the hell?" Brooklyn asked.
"Look for the shape, not the color or patterns" Cordeila called.
"What the hell are you talking about?!" he snapped. As he got a sharp punch in the back. Then another in the stomach. Roaring he spun and didn't see anything at first.
"The outline!" Colin yelled from the side. Gisle pointing at something.
Finally Brooklyn could see the shape of something moving and whipped around, knocking them down with his tail. Shouts and laughter insured as the not invisible but cloaked Harker got up laughing. His coloring melting back to humanish and the others following suit.
"We can blend in with our surroundings. Works better in a forest or natural setting. But most anywhere will do" Johnathan said as he picked up the sword he dropped and flopped into a chair beside a few others.
Looking up Brooklyn couldn't see Cordeila any more. And half wondered if she was still there or had stopped watching. He faired very well against most of them and felt a whole lot more arrogant than he knew he should. But not the group attack, that sucked.
"Let me guess. That is how you go hunting the hunters and that other clan. You dogpile on them" Brooklyn asked sarcastically.
"Exactly my friend. We can't all be built like a brick house like you. So we have to take those fucking vampires in numbers" Johnathan answered. Grabbing a beer and offering Brooklyn one. Which he declined. "Shit sorry, I dunno if you guys like them. And umm. Don't tell Cora we have them. She might get mad" Johnathan said.
The clan seemed to be settling down. Brooklyn still uncomfortable and feeling like the outsider or once again the extra wheel in a clan seemingly full of pairs. In fact other than Cordelia and himself he was fairly positive no one else was single and it was weird.
"Is that other clan that bad that you have to always gang up on one? Brooklyn asked in curiosity.
"Probably worse than you are thinking actually" Antoni spoke up. The Brown haired female...Sile shaking her head in agreement.
"Genetically because they steal mates from other clans they can look like or have the abilities of any of us. But are usually extremely fast and strong. And their particular feeding habits are abhorrent" Johnathan shuddered. "They will literally suck the blood out of a person and then eat the body. You, me or a human just for shits and giggles."
"You're telling me vampires exist. Like in the movies Vampires" Brooklyn snorted in disbelief.
"They are like every horrible horror movie monster all rolled into one" Colin answered. "And Unlike Cora or my brothers borrowing lifeforce the Orfeo don't stop and hold back. They aren't careful and gentle. They kill for the joy of it. What makes it even worse is they can survive without doing so. Just like the rest of us."
"Don't worry about your clan though." Another Harker said between bites of food. Having just come out of the house. "Patrick would have explained them in detail. And how we hunt and kill them."
Brooklyn was not so sure he wanted to stay here and away from his clan any longer. Wondering If Cordelia would let him use her phone or computer to talk to Goliath again. Looking around he noticed that she was still not in sight and hadn't come back with the rest. Brooklyn walked off to try and find her. He eventually found her and she wasn't alone. Owen had somehow shown up to pick up the potion that he needed. Upon coming in the room Owen looked up and cleared his throat.
"This potion should help protect your clan from the sun during the day. You need to use it before I take the rest" Owen said quite evenly.
"Did Goliath agree to this? You haven't even explained what its going to do to us" Brooklyn argued.
"He did. As did Elisa and all the others. They are all going to take it when I get back" Owen replied. Using a swish of his hand and putting the magical powder into bottles and bottles of glass.
"Did Colin really need to make so much? This is thousands of doses" Owen asked Cordelia.
"I honestly think he made enough for every gargoyle in existence. Plus a few extra." She laughed. Using her own hand to magically swish and sweep several extra bottles to herself and pocketing them."How is it used anyway...its powdered. They can't drink it."
"Simply my dear. They put a little bit of it on the skin and it self absorbs." Owen told her with a smile
"What?! That crap got all over me when Cordelia finished it!" Brooklyn hissed at them.
Cordelia's eyes went big and she looked to Owen. Who shrugged and smirked at her.
"You could have told me! I wouldn't have let him in the room with me Puck!" She exclaimed.
"The end result would have been the same. After sunrise call me again. Further instructions will be given then" Owen told her.
"What the hell is going to happen at sunrise?" She asked in a little bit of panic. Putting her hands up and then one on Owens arm stopping him.
"It will be just fine Kitten. Its not like it is going to affect you or your kind" Owen replied. And with that vanishing with a pop.
"I hate when he does that" She snapped.
"I hate all this magical bullshit with a passion" Brooklyn ground out.
Cordelia gave him a dirty look and then looked up at the clock in the hall.
"Well you have about ten min total to be mad about it. Because its almost sun up" She quipped.
Damit Brooklyn thought. He had been trying to mate with Cordelia for how long and then spared with all her cousins. The night had gotten away from him.
"Do you have any clue what is is going to do?" He asked curtly.
"I'm not really positive. It had similarities to a anti breakage potion I used to protect Colin's egg from cracking when he was tiny. I was terrified Patrick was going to drop him" she replied.
Brooklyn could almost smile at that. He never touched or took care of the eggs when they had some in their clan. He was just barely out of the rookery himself with Lex and Broadway. He felt a pang at not being with his brothers and having been at odds with them for a while. With a sigh he spoke to Cordelia again. Them alone in the living room.
"Well this is awkward but where am I going to go to stone for the day. It is...weird to go to sleep in a house full of people I don't really know" Brooklyn asked.
"Umm anywhere I guess. Colin and Patrick don't go to stone unless they are injured. So they usually just shift to human before the sun come up" She replied before going dead still and then bolting out of the room. Not waiting or explaining to Brooklyn what she was doing. Brooklyn ran after her, worried that if she was panicking. Then maybe he should be panicking.
"Colin! COLIN! Get over here!" Cordelia yelled.
"What Cora?" Colin asked in confusion. He had already shifted to human. As had the rest of the others in the vicinity.
"What exactly does that dam potion do?" she asked in a hurry.
"Well Patrick and I think" Colin started off.
"YOU THINK OR YOU KNOW?!" Cordelia screeched at him.
"Calm the fuck down witch, its not gonna hurt him. I think anyways" Colin snapped at her.
"YOU THINK?!" Brooklyn joined in on the yelling.
Cordeila and the others had turned to see him speak. And stopped and stared. The rest of the clan broke off talking and were all getting up to come closer and take a look at him. Cordelia covering her mouth with her hand. Several others yelping in surprise.
"What!?" Brooklyn growled at them. No one saying a word.
He looked down and stilled in shock. His red skin and claws gone. Replaced by very pale human skin and hands.
"Not again Damit" Brooklyn growled again.
