6 Incredible Heroes
The Heart of Baymax
Sickness' jumbo jet was on the road of downtown San Fransokyo and the police had it surrounded as the prepared for whatever came next. They had already cleared the area of all civilians for their protection and aimed their weapons at the jet. Suddenly the jet's payload doors opened up and then the Omnibots activated and emerged from it as they took flight. They hovered high in the air as more and more came out of the jet and the police started shooting at the robots. The Omnibots looked down at them and some of them activated the laser cannons in the backs of their forearms and started blasting at the police officers. They avoided getting shot but had no choice but to retreat as the Omnibots started blowing up their patrol cars. While they did this more Omnibots emerged from the jet and started flying away, spreading to the rest of the city. In the containment unit the Incredibles and Big Hero 6 saw this news report on the monitor and saw how grim the situation looked.
Hiro hung his head in sadness as he said, "I'm sorry guys. I'm sorry I got you into this. All of you."
Honey Lemon spoke sincerely as she said, "This isn't your fault Hiro."
Hiro cringed his eyes in shame as he said, "Yes it is! If it weren't for me Sickness would never have been able to do this! I walked right into his trap and dragged the rest of you into this. I'm sorry."
He turned to Bob who said, "He played all of us Hiro, not just you."
Go Go agreed as she said, "Yeah Hiro, Sickness planned this all out from the beginning. He wanted us out of the way and he knew we'd come to save you, and he knew they would come with us."
Wasabi sincerely spoke, "Yeah, we're all just pawns in his game of chess."
Hiro remained depressed as he moped, "Still… I should've known! I should've at least told you guys what was going on! At least then you guys could've prepared for this. I messed up big time."
They all looked at Bob who sincerely said, "You're not the only one Hiro. Listen, nobody's perfect. Even the greatest of heroes have made huge mistakes in their lives, and I'm no exception."
Bob turned and stared at the ground in regret as he said, "If I had treated Syndrome better back when he was a kid maybe he wouldn't have turned out so bad. He played me the same way Sickness played you. And he's right about one thing, I did kill his brother. If it weren't for me Sickness wouldn't be doing any of this in the first place."
Go Go narrowed her eyes as she seriously said, "His brother was a psychotic megalomaniac! That guy killed hundreds of real heroes so he could pretend he was one, and he threatened you and your family! He got what he deserved!"
Bob briefly became angry but showed remorse again as he said, "Yes but even so, if it weren't for me and my mistakes maybe he wouldn't have turned out so bad."
Hiro turned from Bob and faced the ground as he lamented, "Maybe so but if it weren't for me none of you would be here right now."
They all turned to Helen as she said, "Hiro listen to me, no one is perfect. We all make mistakes and we always regret those mistakes, but that doesn't mean we give up. It doesn't matter how old, strong, or smart you are as long as you never stop trying."
Bob smiled as he agreed and said, "She's right. Do you kids know what makes a hero? Using your talents to help others. Whether you have powers, high-tech gadgets, or just a big brain, as long as you use what you're good to help others, no matter the odds. There were plenty of times in my day when I was in bad situations but I always pulled through. Why? Because I never gave up!"
Honey Lemon smiled happily at Hiro as she said, "Just like Tadashi!"
Hiro turned to Violet next to him as she happily said, "She's right! Your brother never gave up on you, so neither should you! You need to believe in yourself, just like Tadashi always did!"
Hiro was touched as he shed a tear of joy, smiled at her, glanced at everyone, and said, "Thanks Violet. Thanks guys. Thank you all. That really means a lot to me. You're right, we can't give up! We're going to get out of here, stop Sickness, and save San Fransokyo!"
Everyone except Go Go all happily cheered, "Yeah!"
Hiro showed a serious expression as he said, "Now let's all put our heads together so we can think of a way out of here."
They all turned to Fred at the end of the containment unit as he said, "Oh oh, I have an idea!"
He pushed the top of his suit off, showing his face, and then climbed out of the top of his suit and hurried over to the terminal. He then pushed a button that released everyone from the containment unit as they fell to the ground and the mineballs deactivated, releasing their hands and feet.
Fred hurried back to his suit and put it on as Go Go sternly asked, "Why didn't you do that earlier?"
Now back in his suit, Fred smiled happily as he said, "What? And ruin the awesome superhero pep talk?!"
He pulled the top of his suit over his face, then Violet turned invisible and walked through the automatic door and into the corridor.
After a brief moment she turned visible, waved her hand, and said, "All clear, let's go!"
The nine heroes ran into the hallway together and glanced around as Go Go urgently said, "We need to get Baymax and Jack-Jack, and our gear, and find a way back to the city!"
Hiro led the way as he declared, "I remember where they put them all when they brought us in. This way!"
Hiro led them all to the room where Sickness' men put Jack-Jack and Baymax, along with Go Go's skates and Honey Lemon's purse. They immediately hurried through the door but stopped to see Baymax standing in their way with his eyes glowing red.
The glanced at Jack-Jack in the force-field behind him and Bob said, "Baymax, grab Jack-Jack and let's get going!"
Baymax stared at Bob as he raised his left fist and Hiro nervously said, "Baymax?"
Baymax promptly launched his rocket fist and Bob immediately pushed the others out of the way just before the fist hit him and knocked him down. The fist returned to Baymax and he looked around as they all scattered around him in fear and avoided him as he attacked them all. He stomped toward Dash and immediately smashed his right fist down toward him, but Dash quickly zipped away and Baymax missed and only dented the metal floor.
Dash zoomed away in fear and stopped as he stood next to Hiro and Violet as he said, "What's wrong with him?"
Hiro was very worried as he exclaimed, "I don't know! Baymax what are you doing?!"
Baymax turned to Hiro and aimed his right fist at him, but Helen immediately stretched her arms out, wrapped them around Baymax's right arm and pulled him toward her. Baymax's rocket fist missed Hiro and slammed into the wall, denting it before returning to Baymax. He turned to Helen and grabbed her arms in his left hand and swung her into the air and slammed her on the body like a whip. She pulled her arms back and groaned in pain as she got up and noticed she landed in front of the force-field holding Jack-Jack. He walked to her and put his hands against the force-field as he whimpered in fear and made little baby noises.
Helen tried to calm him as she urgently said, "Don't worry sweetie! Mommy's here! Everything will be okay!"
She glanced back and saw Baymax continuing to attack everyone; Honey Lemon and Go Go spotted their gear by the right wall of the room. They quickly hurried over, grabbed their gear, and prepared to help the others. Honey Lemon began typing buttons on her purse and then a yellow ball came out, which she held in her hand. Bob punched Baymax in the chest and knocked him against the back wall, and Honey Lemon threw the ball at Baymax. It popped and a huge glob of yellow foam came out and covered most of Baymax and the wall behind him. The foam quickly hardened and became solid, restraining Baymax to the wall, but Baymax was too strong. He broke free and shattered the yellow solid material and launched his right rocket fist at Bob, knocking him to the floor. His fist returned to him and he stomped forward and turned his attention to Wasabi.
Wasabi backed away in fear as he said, "Uh… Baymax come on! We're on the same team! You're supposed to be helping us!"
Fred quickly jumped behind Wasabi, grabbed him, and jumped away just before Baymax could punch him. When they landed he put Wasabi down and Baymax turned to Dash, who was the closest to him, and launched his left rocket fist at him. Dash quickly zipped away but after Baymax's fist returned he marched toward Dash and swung both his fists at him, trying to smash him. Dash swiftly dodged his attacks but he was still afraid as Baymax's attacks just kept coming and coming. He was about to swing his fist again but Bob came up behind him and wrapped his arms around Baymax's waist in a bear hug. Baymax couldn't budge free from Bob's grasp, but he activated his wings and ignited his thrusters, flying high in the air but stopped before hitting the ceiling. Bob's feet dangled as he held on, then Baymax managed to kick Bob off him and sent him falling to the ground. Bob landed flat on his back and groaned as he looked up, then his eyes widened in terror as he saw Baymax flying down toward him, pulling his right fist back. Bob rolled to the side just missing Baymax as he abruptly landed and slammed his fist on the metal floor, denting it.
Violet and Hiro watched Baymax continuing his attack as a terrified Violet said, "What did Sickness do to Baymax?!"
Hiro's eyes widened as he suddenly felt déjà vu and said, "I think I know!"
He looked around frantically until finally he spotted Baymax's programing chip on the floor; he hurried toward it, picked up, and ran back to Violet.
She looked at him as he held up the chip and exclaimed, "Sickness removed Baymax's chip! Without this he's not Baymax, he's just a weapon! We have to get this chip in him!"
They both turned and cried in fear as Baymax stomped in front of them and was about to attack, prompting Violet to make a force-field around herself and Hiro. It protected them but Baymax was relentless as he continued to punch the shield, trying to breach it to get to the two teenage heroes.
Meanwhile Helen was at the computer terminal as she said, "You kids keep him busy and try to fix him while we free Jack-Jack!"
Baymax kept pounding Violet's force-field as she fearfully screamed, "A little help please! I can't do this forever!"
Fred jumped down next to Baymax and kicked him away, then Violet dropped her force-field as Fred ran at Baymax. Baymax however knocked him away and Hiro ran at him with the chip but Baymax knocked him to the ground. Hiro groaned as he dropped the chip, but Violet quickly helped him up and he picked the chip back up. They both turned to see Baymax attacking Honey Lemon, but she threw a white ball to the floor, covering it with ice and causing Baymax to slip and fall as she ran away. He got back up and Hiro desperately tried to think of a plan.
He then looked at Dash and Go Go and pointed at Baymax as he said, "I've got an idea! Dash, Go Go, keep Baymax distracted so I can get behind him!"
Go Go nodded with a serious expression as she said, "Got it!"
Dash gave him a thumbs-up and said, "Okay Hiro!"
Go Go started skating while Dash zoomed in front of Baymax and said, "Hey Baymax wanna play?"
Baymax swung his fist down toward Dash, but missed, and Dash touched his hand and said, "Tag you're it!"
He and Go Go began distracting Baymax as he ran and she skated, a few times they came closer to him to make sure his attention was focused on them. He would try to swing his fists at them or launch rocket fists at them a couple of times but they both continued to dodge his attacks. While they kept him occupied Hiro walked around them as he approached the wall behind Baymax, holding onto the chip with a firm grip. Meanwhile Helen had input a command into the terminal and managed to deactivate the force-field that was holding Jack-Jack.
He smiled and made happy baby noises as he walked to her and she picked him up and said, "Come here sweetie. Mommy's got you."
Jack-Jack hugged her but soon showed discomfort as he made more baby sounds and held the collar around his neck. Helen tried to pull the collar off him but it was too strong and she couldn't pull too hard without hurting him. Meanwhile Dash and Go Go kept distracting Baymax while Hiro slowly crept around them and made his way closer to Baymax from behind. Go Go threw one of her disks at Baymax but he just swung his left arm and knocked it away, then Dash zoomed by and stopped in front of him with a cocky smile.
Baymax tried to punch him but Dash zipped to the side and said, "Too slow! Nice try!"
Baymax kept trying to attack Dash, but he kept speeding side to side as he overconfidently said, "Missed me by mile! Not even close! Can't catch me! Ooh I felt some breeze!"
He started laughing as he literally ran circles around Baymax, who just stood in place watching him before suddenly sticking his right arm out. Dash ran right into Baymax's hand and Baymax immediately grabbed him and held him out in front of his body.
Dash was now frightened as he smiled nervously and said, "Heh heh, great grab."
Baymax immediately pulled his left arm back and prepared to punch him as Violet screamed, "DASH!"
She narrowed her eyes and jumped forward with her hands out as she sent a force-field barrier flying toward Baymax. It hit him and forced him to release Dash before knocking him four feet backwards, closer to Hiro. When the barrier vanished and Baymax stopped moving Hiro immediately jumped on his back and used the electromagnets in his shoes and right glove to hold onto him. Baymax turned his head and tried to grab Hiro but Hiro leaned away from his hands, then Baymax flew into the air.
Hiro held on tight to stay on his back as he frantically said, "Come on Baymax! Hold still!"
Baymax spun around while hovering and Hiro dropped the chip and reached down as he cried, "The chip!"
Dash quickly ran under it and caught it before it hit the ground and then Baymax started flying around the top of the room. Hiro tried to grab Baymax with his free hand but Baymax did a barrel roll while making a sharp turn, forcing Hiro to fall off his back. Wasabi panted heavily as he ran toward with his arms out and caught Hiro before he hit the floor. They looked up and gaped in fear as they saw Baymax flying down toward them and Wasabi jumped out of the way before slammed down on the floor. Wasabi put Hiro down and they both ran as Baymax tried to attack them; Bob ran to defend them but Baymax kicked him out of the way.
Bob fell to the floor and got back up, but then Helen shouted, "Bob! Help me get this collar off Jack-Jack!"
He turned to her and ran toward them; Helen held Jack-Jack and Bob grabbed the collar from both sides and used his strength to break it in half. Once it was off Jack-Jack made happy little baby noises as Bob and Helen hugged him lovingly.
Jack-Jack suddenly noticed something behind Helen and said, "Ba ba?"
The broke the hug and turned to see Baymax standing behind them; Bob quickly stepped in front of Helen and Jack-Jack. He prepared to defend them and ran at Baymax, but he performed an uppercut and knocked Bob into the air. Baymax turned back to Helen and Jack-Jack and launched his left rocket fist at them, but Jack-Jack got scared and teleported himself and his mother away. The rocket fist missed them and returned to Baymax as Helen and Jack-Jack reappeared on the other side of the room. Baymax turned around and Hiro ran toward him with a desperate look on his face as he stopped in front of him.
Hiro stared at Baymax with pleading eyes as he said, "Baymax stop! This isn't you! We're your friends!"
Baymax looked down at Hiro and paused for a moment before he spoke with a deep threatening voice and said, "Robots do not have friends."
He was about to punch Hiro but Violet immediately created a force-field around Baymax, which protected Hiro and trapped Baymax. Baymax continuously punched the force-field, trying to escape but to no avail, and almost everyone let out a heavy sigh of relief.
Hiro glanced at Violet and gratefully said, "Thanks Violet."
Violet had her arms out as she maintained the force-field and nervously said, "You're welcome Hiro but this isn't working!"
Hiro agreed as urgently said, "You're right. We need to somehow hold him still long enough for us to re-insert his chip."
Jack-Jack, watching Baymax pound his fists against Violet's force-field, whimpered before he teleported out of Helen's arms.
Helen quickly became worried as she looked around and said, "Jack-Jack?"
Jack-Jack suddenly reappeared under Violet's force-field directly behind Baymax and said, "Ba ba!"
Everyone was terrified as they all screamed, "JACK-JACK NO!"
But suddenly Jack-Jack started growing and Violet dropped her force-field as Jack-Jack grew to his large chubby form. He immediately grabbed Baymax like a toy and held him in place by his arms; Baymax tried to break free but Jack-Jack was too strong. He tried to fly but Jack-Jack was too heavy and managed to hold him in place until Baymax finally gave up that attempt.
Jack-Jack seemed upset as he held Baymax and said, "Ba ba! Ba ba!"
Everyone stared at the two of them with their eyes wide in shock, they were all completely speechless.
Wasabi pointed his finger in confusion as he said, "Okay, that's cool but still freaky."
Hiro then urgently exclaimed, "Freaky or not, now's our chance! Dash chip!"
Dash zipped up to Hiro and handed him Baymax's chip, and Hiro hurried over to Baymax and Jack-Jack. He opened Baymax's access port, inserted Tadashi's programming chip, and quickly pushed it in and closed the access port. Baymax suddenly stopped struggling, prompting Jack-Jack to put him back down before shrinking back to his normal size. Helen quickly stretched her arms out, grabbed Jack-Jack, and pulled him back protectively. Everyone gathered in front of Baymax and stared at him as his eyes stopped glowing red and returned to normal.
He looked at everyone as they panted heavily and then said, "My healthcare protocol has been disrupted."
He walked toward them and soothingly patted Jack-Jack on the head, calming him down, and said, "I apologize for any injury I may have caused you all."
Hiro let out a heavy sigh of relief as he hugged Baymax and said, "It's okay Baymax. You weren't yourself."
Baymax returned his hug and then everyone else soon joined as they embraced Baymax in a sincere group hug.
After a moment they separated and Hiro affectionately rubbed Jack-Jack's head and said, "Nice job Jack-Jack."
Go Go smiled proudly as she said, "Yeah, way to go baby."
Everyone smiled at Jack-Jack as he made happy little baby sounds while glancing up at everyone with an adorable smile on his face.
Bob went up to Baymax and placed his hand on his shoulder as he said, "It's good to have you back big guy."
Helen smiled gratefully as she said, "Yeah, thanks for not hurting us. You really do have a heart."
Not understanding what she meant, Baymax said, "I am a robot, I do not have a heart."
Hiro showed an amused smile as he said, "It's just an expression."
Violet smiled as she pointed at Baymax and said, "Yeah but you really do have a heart, even if you don't know it."
A few minutes later they were all running through the corridors of Sickness' fortress and Bob was carrying Baymax over his head since Baymax could not run.
Hiro led the way as he said, "We have to hurry back to the city so we can stop Sickness!"
Helen took the lead as she said, "When Bob and I came in we saw a hanger. Follow me!"
She led them all to the hanger and Baymax pried the door open as they all entered and moved along quietly.
As they walked Hiro looked at Baymax and quietly said, "Baymax, can you tell if there are any guards around?"
Baymax looked around and scanned for any signs of life and then pointed at the command deck and said, "I detect seven guards in the command deck."
Go Go showed a serious expression as she said, "I've got this!"
She skated away through a door and hurried up a staircase before entering the command deck quietly. Fortunately all of the guards were not paying attention to her, they were too busy watching a monitor that showed the Omnibots attacking the city.
They were laughing as one of them said, "Ha ha! Look at them run!"
Suddenly he heard the sound of the doors shutting and turned around and his smile disappeared as he saw Go Go. She had her visor up as she blew a bubble of her gum before it popped, then she put her visor back on and skated toward them
She knocked them all out in a matter of seconds before she came out and shouted, "All clear!"
She rejoined the others and they hurried through the hanger as Bob said, "We need to find a jet. Something fast."
Suddenly they all stopped as they heard Fred yell, "Ooh! Ooh!"
They all joined him as he hopped up and down excitedly and said, "I just found the coolest jet for us to make our heroic entrance!"
They all joined him and turned to see one of Sickness' Manta Jets, but Bob was discouraged as he said, "Those are completely automated, we can't fly that."
They all turned to Hiro as he confidently said, "We don't have to. I can hack into its system so it will fly us straight back to San Fransokyo."
Helen was uncertain as she asked, "Are you sure?"
Hiro was very confident and proud as he pointed his thumb at himself and said, "Trust me. Programming is what I do."
They all trusted him as Violet happily said, "Hiro you are the coolest boy I've ever met!"
Hiro turned away as he rubbed the back of his helmet with a flattered smile and a faint blush on his face.
Bob smiled approvingly as he put his hand on Hiro's shoulder and said, "You're a good kid Hiro. Now come on everyone! Let's go save the world!"
They all smiled enthusiastically and hurried to the Manta Jet; Hiro immediately began working and hacked into the autopilot and programmed it to fly to San Fransokyo.
Author's note: Keep in mind, when the Incredibles and the others were fighting Baymax they were going easy on him. They weren't trying to beat him but help him get back to normal. That's why whenever Bob hit him he didn't really damage him. That's also why Wasabi never used his plasma blades and why Fred never used his flamethrower. They were all holding back. Anyway, there are only three or four more chapters left. Lucius will make a couple short appearances in the next two chapters, but he won't join the fight. I don't know when I'll post the next chapter, I want to finish at least one of my oneshots first. But it won't be as long a wait as it was for this one. Please review.
