Chapter 5
The case was over. The leverage he had worked and he was able to settle with the other side. It's all settled. His determination to settle the case was just the same whenever Donna's in trouble whether it's a simple matter or a complicated one.
It was almost midnight, Harvey's watching some random shows on tv while nursing a scotch in his hand at his condo when he heard a loud continuous knock at his door.
It was Donna. She never knocked like that before, but part of that is because she barely goes to his condo. If she does its usually about the firm and barely a personal one.
She walked inside right away ignoring him once he opened the door. He closed the door behind her and he followed her into the living room. He didn't expect her to be at his condo at that time of the night but most especially, of how she's acting.
"What are you doing here?" Harvey was confused as to why Donna was there. Unless she's still in trouble.
Donna took the can opener out of her bag. "I'm going to trial".
Harvey knows what Donna is trying to say. She needs to do the can opener ritual with him, but they always do it on the same day of the trial, and they do it at the office not at his or her place.
But he wondered because the case was already settled. He's getting confused of what's going on.
"What do you need the ritual for? Your case was already settled" Harvey said without realizing that he just told Donna he knows what's going on with the case when he's not supposed to.
"So you know." Donna was staring at him so intently. Donna thought of the ritual as a bait for Harvey to tell the truth.
"I uhm –" He was caught off guard.
"You're the one who settled" Donna stated. She knows it was him. They were going to trial and out of the big blue sky the case was settled. She found out Harvey had something to do with it and she's furious. He told her that he'll stay out of it and now he's the one who settled it.
"Does it matter? It's over now. Shouldn't you be celebrating?"
"Celebrating?! Donna hissed. You snuck into my case when I specifically asked you not to! You betrayed me!"
Harvey was furious to what she just said. He can't believe that he's being accused of betraying her "You wanna talk about betrayal? You're the one who didn't come to me and you wanted Scottie and Samantha to keep it from me. YOU betrayed me!"
"I already told you why!" Donna was referring to Thomas being jealous as her reason.
"Bullshit!"
"And you want me to not find out that it was you! You just like hiding things from me don't you! First my salary now this!" Donna was already breathing so hard. "What else are you hiding from me Harvey?"
Harvey can't answer. So Donna continued…
"And why do you want to help me anyways? Why is it a big deal for you that I didn't ask you?!"
"Because you know I would help you and I'd do anything for you!"
"Why Harvey" Donna was challenging him.
"What do you mean why?"
"You'd do anything for me, Harvey, why is that?"
"Because I told you I wouldn't let anything happen to you"
"Why?"
"Because –" Harvey cant' seem to find his words. Donna was still staring at him but is already taking a step back ready to leave the apartment.
"I'm leaving Harvey" The way Donna said it in a way that it meant something else. She's leaving the apartment but it feels like she's leaving him again.
