Note: This is a Reylo FanFiction (slow-burn)
Author's note:
Few readers have PMed me asking if the story will have any romance between Rey and Ben or other characters. Now, I will spoil the story a bit. This is supposed to be a Reylo FanFiction. Yes, Rey and Ben will be in love, etc. But allow me to give them the time first to meet, spent some time together, become friends, and the rest will unfold. Now about including more couples through the story. Yes! Yes! I will pair Poe and Finn. Though allow me to keep some mystery. I hope I have answered some of your questions. Thank you for all the messages and support. ^_^
「Act 20: A yak in the Dark」
Ajan Kloss, 36 ABY
Although Ajan Kloss was a moon, it had two moons of its own. Its gas giant shielded it from harmful radiation. The jungle resonated with life, and Resistance scouts would routinely check for new species to be used in medicine. Fungal and insect infections could also be spotted on the planet, but there were no large predators around.
Jedi Master Luke Skywalker compared Ajan Kloss with the planet Dagobah; he noted that the similarities between Dagobah and Ajan Kloss were wet, warm, green, and overflowing with life. Still, the main difference was that Ajan Kloss didn't smell bad.
Rey's eyes were closed, and she was sitting cross-legged. She was floating above the ground, trying to connect with the Force. Being part of the Force came easier these days. The Force flowed through her, around her, and connected her to everything. Even with her eyes close now, she was aware of her surroundings.
The lush rain forest moon of Ajan Kloss was teeming with life. She could feel every tree and fern, every reptile and insect—a few strides away in a hidden den, small furry creatures, and none. Rey smiled as she thought that her connection became stronger every day. She could feel it.
She never stopped her training as a Jedi. Although none of her teachers were alive any longer, she kept reading Luke's scripts. And when she was lucky enough, she would feel Luke or Leia through the Force guiding her. She was not alone. Rey understood that now.
She inhaled through her nose and sent her awareness into the void. Peace and calm were key, Leia always told her. She reached now deeper into the Force, searching and searching deeper for something and someone. She tried harder to overcome the barrier, the invisible wall keeping her from connecting with the dyad.
But she sensed nothing except the wind through the trees and the annoying insects that were chirruping. She didn't want to admit that she failed again to connect with the dyad ... to connect with Ben. Even gone, he had promised that he would always be with her. Her thought came out too harsh, almost like a challenge. "Liar!"
A year ago, she had seen Ben Solo vanishing like Leia and Luke. He should be one with the Force. A Force-Ghost as they were called. She had read about Force-Ghosts in Luke's scripts. She had heard and seen all the Jedi back in Exegol. She knew that Force-Ghost existed. Why couldn't she find Ben? What was blocking their connection?
Rey believed now in Leia's words. Once she touched the Force, it was part of her forever. This year she continued to learn and grow. The hours she meditated lasted longer and aided her through her difficult times.
Though Rey didn't only spend her time training and meditating, the Resistance had managed to spot two of the remaining fleet of the First Order. She, Poe, and Finn organized an attack that was successful and brought both fleets down. The problem was that they never located the remaining fleets. It has been a month now; they were using any available source searching for them. But their research went in vain.
Everyone in the Resistance base was aiding their cause to find the remaining fleet. Everyone except Poe. He had wasted a whole month looking for one of the researchers of her grandfather. One who had aided Palpatine create a few of his last clones. Poe was haunted by the idea that Palpatine would find a way back. He went on a mission in Jakku to seek for some trace there.
Honestly, Rey hated it when Poe went on his own. Poe was always a risk junkie, but he was now important to the Resistance. He was the acting-General. He was very skillful in that role. But whenever there was a dangerous and important mission, Poe would accept it. And he would go on by himself, thinking it would be faster and safer.
Back now, at the base in her own small room that used to be a storage unit, she eyed the unfinished lightsaber on her workbench. It wasn't ready yet; she still was using Luke and Leia's saber from time to time. She had to admit Luke's lightsaber was a fine weapon, but it was not hers. It had served her well for years now. In fact, someday, once she had mastered this lightsaber-building business and designed one of her own, she would make sure to hide both of Leia and Luke's lightsabers for the next generation of Jedi to find.
She had learned a lot about lightsabers by reforging Luke's. His Jedi texts had offered her some guidance - like how to repair the keyber crystal- and her experience had provided the rest. Rey was confident she'd eventually finish her own from scratch, even though there was no one to teach her how. At least no one she knew was alive and capable of teaching her.
The Jedi texts were scattered across her workbench, and Rey was absorbed in studying over them for the hundredth of time. Luke's added notes on training had been invaluable to her. C-3PO had translated much of the rest, which had helped Rey land about the Jedi and the Sith history. Yet some of the writing remained a mystery as the language was too old and too secret to be translated by C-3PO.
In the meantime, she was looking for a clue in the translated texts, which might help her forget and find peace. Now that the Force was awake inside her, she had more questions than ever before, about the Jedi of the past, about Ben and their dyad, and about the nightmarish dreams she had about Ben and Jakku.
Sometimes the gaping void of what she didn't know overwhelmed her. The missing part of the dyad was still bothering her, even if it had been a year now. She itched to find answers and be in the fight, as the girl from Jakku was still inside her, and that girl yearned to survive through this as well.
She hurried over the landing area, which was no more than a cleared space in the middle of the jungle. When she heard that Poe was returning from Jakku, she wanted to see that her friend was alright. She stopped short when she noted that Poe was back and talking to Finn.
The pilot had just leaped down from his x-wing, and she briefly forgot to be angry. She was just glad to see him back safe. Poe was yelling as droids and mechanics started hosing down the smoking bits. "The whole thing's on fire. All of it. The isolator didn't last to make it through the jump!"
"You can't beat it every time!" Finn said as he walked over to greet his friend.
"And yet, it seemed it did! Again!" Poe complained, "I was sure I fixed the damn thing!"
Finn tapped his shoulder and smirked, "You always say that! But then everything ends up burned and on fire!"
"Are you trying to start a fight?" Poe quizzed, narrowing his eyes as he grabbed Finn's arm.
"Just make your move already!" Finn said as he was still gazing at Poe and smiling.
Poe shook his head, "I'm kidding!" he said, hands up in surrender, "I'm glad to be back." Poe paused as he noted Rey walking towards them. He leaned over close to Finn. "I have to talk to you and Chewie later... in private.. something came up..."
"Hey!" Rey interrupted them, "I heard there was a survivor from Exegol."
"Hey!" Poe spotted her approaching. "Yes. But he wouldn't reveal anything. He shared with me a clue, though."
"A clue?" Rey seemed puzzled "what did he say?"
Poe seemed a bit bagged, sweat sheening his brow, his shirt blotches with solid stains. He had apparently done his best to conduct some emergency repairs before the trip back. "Something we can use to help us out there!"
Poe, Finn, and Rey had caught the attention of most of the members of the resistance. Everyone gathered around to hear the news. "How'd it go!" Rose asked him next.
"Really bad," Poe said as he noticed BB-8 close to him beeping happily. He paused, explaining what happened in Jakku, and said hello to his friend. Then he turned and faced everyone. "There is a remaining fleet," he started explaining.
"From the First Order?" asked Rey. "We already know that a few of the First Order's fleet survived, and they are hiding."
"It's not about any fleet," Poe corrected as he leaned against the nearest desk, looking exhausted.
"Then tell us?" Finn said.
"One of the First Order's remaining Fleet has stored all the locations of the rest." Poe revealed, "And maybe a few secrets of the Sith."
"What?" Rey raised an eyebrow in the challenge, "And how are we going to get a hold of that content?"
"We won't!" Poe told them as he made a notice exasperation, "I found someone that might spy on them."
"A spy? who?" Rey questioned curiously.
Though Poe never answered her question. Since he left Jakku, his mind was bothered by two ideas. The one was if Kylo Ren had turned, and the other how would he manage to get the information from the First Order. Unexpectedly when he crossed both thoughts, he had found his answers. He had acknowledged that Kylo Ren had turned. That meant maybe he could use Ben Solo as a spy to aid the Resistance. But that was a secret he would keep from Rey.
A few hours later, after Poe had showered, changed his clothes, and rested, he was sitting with Finn, Rey, Chewie, and the droids around a firepit. He was eating dinner and watching Finn and Rey arguing. Lately, both of them were in some kind of contest who could do better. Who was better at fighting? Who was a better mechanic? Who could connect better with the Force? And the ridiculous one was: who was more daring in kissing?
Poe recalled a few months ago when both Galaxy's virgins were fighting who was more challenging when it came to kissing. Finn insisted he was better as Rose and Jannah had kissed him. Poe didn't comment about that. Although Finn was his best friend, he had to admit that the former stormtrooper was a total newbie when it came to relationships. In spring, Finn seemed to be in love with Rose. It took Poe some time to trust that Finn actually meant it. As Summer came, he noted that Finn seemed to show less interest to Rose and more at Poe. And before Poe had coped with the idea, when autumn came, Finn was in love with Jannah. And now he seemed to be back at wanting Rey.
Rey wasn't any better. She was the exact opposite of Finn. She still had no idea what falling in love meant. However, she managed to win the debate back then as she offered that she had once kissed at her own will, Kylo Ren. After that, Finn was angry with Rey for a few days. Poe outlined that he didn't take the chance to asked Ben if that was the truth. But then again, that wouldn't make any sense. Anyway, what the acting General had concluded was that Finn and Rey had no idea what it meant to be in a relationship. He couldn't blame them since they had never dated before.
Not that Poe had much experience when it came to love or relationship. He still was confused about his feelings for Zorri. Yet, he was only thinking about one girl. He wasn't changing his mind every season like Finn, and he certainly didn't make out with the enemy. Plus, when he was in the academy, he used to date for a couple of years. He was in a normal and long term relationship, which made him a bit more mature than Finn and Rey.
Poe's thoughts were interrupted as Rey stood up and walked back into the base to get some rest, and the droids followed her. A few moments later, Poe had gathered Finn and Chewie to reveal to them what had happed in Jakku. Poe addressed the group. "I have to confirm the worst," Poe waited a moment, as though hesitant to continue, after a deep breath, he added, "Somehow, Kylo Ren has returned."
Finn gasped along with the Wookiee. The news that Poe brought them made no sense. "Wait... we believe this? Ren died on Exegol. Rey saw him vanish. That cannot be?"
"We believe it!" Poe assured him, "I have seen him, and I have talked to him. He is exhausted and beaten but alive."
Finn was shaking his head; he couldn't cope with the idea that Kylo Ren was alive. He didn't want to believe it. Chewie stared off into the distance as if lost in thought. After losing everyone from his old family, Han Solo, Leia, Luke, and Ben. There was hope that Han's son was alive. Chewie roared to Poe to explain.
"That can't be! Kylo Ren is dead!" Finn voiced in disbelieve.
Poe sighed and gazed at both of his friends. One seemed filled with hope and the other troubled by it. "No, Finn. He is alive, and actually, I am sure he had turned. Rey was telling us the truth when she insisted that he was Ben Solo."
Finn frowned. "What do you want us to do with that Poe? We don't have the means to have him go through a trial or to put him behind bars?"
"I don't want him to go through a trial. I want to use Ben Solo as our spy. He can walk into the First Oder and bring us what we need!" Poe announced seriously.
"What?" Finn was speechless. "You want to let Kylo Ren back to the First Order? And you think he is going to help us? Did you hit your head in Jakku or what?"
"No, Ben Solo has been hiding to Jakku for a year now. I am certain he will aid us! It's our only hope." Poe added.
"Poe, I'll never trust Kylo Ren. What makes you so sure that he has turned? That he will not cross us?" Finn asked him.
"He saved my life. And I assure you, If you meet him, you will understand." Poe said, tapping Finn's shoulder. "Trust me on this."
Chewie warbled something that he didn't want to bring Ben Solo to any more dangers. And Finn took a deep breath. "Meet him?"
Poe cracked a smile at Chewie and Finn and rested his arms against their shoulders. "We are leaving tomorrow at dawn; we are going back to Jakku to meet with Ben Solo!"
「 Upcoming Chapter: Act Twenty-One」
More than anything, thank you for taking the time to read this!
Feel free to Review and Follow!
thereisaredeemer: Welcome back. Glad to have you back. I still have to do some editing in previous chapters. Hopefully tomorrow. 1. Now about your question: who is Finn in love with? If you read this chapter, you would already found out. Finn has special feelings for Rey. That is a hint; it will bring some late drama to the story. But he also is confused, that will bring some funny moments. 2. I always write the dialogues in italic. 3. No worries about your typos. We all make a typo here and there. I do many silly ones, my dyslexia is to blame for some of it, and me being anxious to finish fast for the rest. ^_^
isntactiveyet: Thank you for reviewing and liking the story. I hope I can keep up and updated regularly with interesting chapters.
myfeetarealwayscold: I do believe Disney and Lucas are trying somehow to bring Ben Solo back as well in the new trilogy. His death made sense in a way in the movies. But still, you cannot kill the last Skywalker. Thank you for reading and reviewing. ^_^
Guest: I'm trying to update as fast as I can.
