Star Wars: A dyad in the Force Chapter 48: Never tell the odds!, a star wars fanfic

Warning: Major Spoilers of TRoS.

「Act 48: Never tell the odds!」

Falcon, 36 ABY

Rey hurried over to the Falcon's main area, which was no more than a cleared space in the middle of Falcon surrounded by a few couches. She stopped short when she saw Poe sitting there, and her heart clenched. Remembering Ben's memories, she saw Poe lashing Ben; the image was vivid inside her mind. What had Poe done?

Poe himself sat up as he noticed Rey rushing towards him and Ben following her. Rey's annoyance and Ben's half-naked appearance alerted Poe, who jumped up and came face-to-face with Rey. "Hey!" he said with a puzzled look in his eyes, "What's wrong?"

"Hey!" Rey answered back, "I heard about Jakku."

"Really," Poe said, "What about Jakku?" He looked at her and then Ben, who looked at Poe apologetic. He didn't expect all of the memories to reach Rey; he felt so relaxed and granted her full access.

"What did you do to Ben in Jakku?" Rey quizzed, irritated, glaring at Poe.

"What did you do to Ben now?" he retorted and pointed at Ben.

"What did she do?" he mumbled to himself, confused as Ben gazed at himself, noting that he was still wearing only the towel around him. "Perfect, this odd day was getting worse."

"Ben's in a lot better shape now than he was in Jakku?" Rey shouted and narrowed her eyes, taking a step towards Poe. "Tell me what happened?"

"You tell me, first!" Poe threw back at her.

And Ben was now only watching those two arguing about him, and he wasn't sure any more if they made sense. He shook his head, thinking that was the reason he didn't want to tell Rey about Jakku and what Poe had to do there.

Rey pocked Poe's shoulder and tried to keep her anger from rising, "You know what you are?"

"What?" Poe asked back, curious now of her answer.

"You're difficult," Rey said, trying her best not to unleash against him. "You're really difficult to talk with. Why did you whip Ben in Jakku?"

"I got him back, didn't I?" said Poe. "That's the important part!"

Rey's eyes widened as she heard Poe's reactions. "You ended up lashing him after he saved you because some thieves told you so?" Rey said, and her tone came out more accusing than she intended.

"I know," Poe defended himself, "I was there, and it was my only option!"

"You can't simply whip people, Poe. For whatever the reason," Rey said, unable to stop herself. How could Poe take that kind of risk with Ben? Besides, how dare he touch her friend? "Have you seen his scars? And how exhausted he was when he returned in the Resistance Base!"

"Actually, it turned out you can," Poe said, unblinking, without overthinking his response.

Ben rolled his eyes as they both ignored him and were arguing like he wasn't even there. He finally had enough and stepped between them, pulling Rey away from Poe. "Rey, he had to. If he didn't, the Line Breakers properly would have beat us both, or worse. You know how things work in Jakku!" Ben tried to reason with her.

Poe nodded, "Bad news is what had happened; I didn't have a choice!"

Rey felt her frustration build. She understood what Poe and Ben had been through and how ill things could be in Jakku. But still, she needed them to grasps that it wasn't acceptable what they both agreed to go through. She lifted her arms in disbelief. "I can't figure you out! You are both lost cases!" Rey gave up and stepped back.

Ben gestured an apology towards Poe; he didn't want Rey to find out what had happened back in Jakku and argue with Poe. And Poe accepted with a slight nod towards Ben. A small moment between the two men that Ben appreciated.

"Rey!" came Finn's voice as he appeared next to them; he had heard the argument and ran to Reys's rescue. "Are you alright?"

"Finn!" Rey shared a smile with him. "I'm fine!" she assured Finn and walked towards him.

Ben rolled his eyes again as he cast a glance towards Finn; fanboy is back! His inner voice noted, and Finn turned and glared at him as if he had heard Ben's thought. But Ben pulled back, surprised with his own reaction towards Finn.

Poe wasn't surprised; he was used by Finn's reaction to chase Rey around worried and shout her name. Indeed Finn, helped a lot during the battles and the war, but he had spent a substantial amount of time looking for Rey and shouting her name. Poe had no comment about that.

The Falcon beeped suddenly, indicating that they were nearing close to an alerting dangerous zone. Poe reacted first as he heard the warning he left and headed towards the cockpit. Poe reached the cockpit as the Millennium Falcon was heading towards massive asteroids made of ice.

"Ben!" he called out as he didn't see Chewie around. He dropped into the pilot's chair. "We are going to crash hard!" He added as he could see the comet's origins that were approaching the Falcon.

Ben had already heard the Falcon's sensors beeping aggressively; as he rushed towards the cockpit, the view of the asteroids ready to hit the Falco startled him. Ben leaped in the co-pilot's seat and gaped at the console. "Get us out of here!" Ben cried out as he looked for ways out of this trap. Options were limited and growing fewer by the second.

"We're about to be crushed!" Poe started as he flicked switched, getting the Falcon ready for a hot exit.

Rey and Finn suddenly showed up only to find out that they were about to collide big time with asteroids. Rey grabbed the back co-pilot seat, almost ready to pushed Ben of the way, and take over. But Ben ignored her.

"How did we end up here?" Finn asked Poe, terrified of the idea that they might die in such a random way.

"Finn! Rey," Poe said, "Get to the turret, shoot down what we cannot avoid."

Finn didn't wait and scrambled for the guns, and Rey followed along, now they had two operational turrets and a higher chance to survive.

Poe maneuvered the Falcon through the asteroids, as smaller parts streamed past them in a blur. The asteroids were testing his skills to their limits, but Ben suddenly took the lead. His skills were provided now and opportunity.

A small part of an asteroid tore at the Falcon, nearly throwing Poe and Ben from their seat. But they were pulled back as Chewbacca, who had just entered, grabbed them. He moaned loudly, complaining that they didn't inform him.

"Finn!" Poe yelled, "You're supposed to be getting rid of those!" He gave a glance at Chewie, "Thank you, Buddy, the complains later, not now!"

"The right rear shield is hit," Ben informed them as an alarm in the cockpit began to scream. "Try to flick it off, Chewie!"

Chewie growled something at them, and they noted more small asteroids heading against them. They were seconds away. This seemed like the opportunity that Ben was hoping for. "Rey, try to hit as many as you can! NOW!"

"I'm trying," Rey informed him as she was firing at one asteroid after another, trying to break them into smaller parts, so even if they hit the Falcon, it wouldn't damage it.

"We're doomed!" suddenly came C-3PO's voice causing Ben and Poe almost jumping from their seats. "This is madness; we are going to die!"

"No, stop C-3PO; I don't want to know!" Ben outlined as he diverted all the remaining shield power to the top, and Poe agreed with him.

"But Sir, the possibility of successfully navigating through the asteroid field is approximately 3,720 to 1!" C-3PO informed them again, anxious as he stood inside the cockpit now.

Ben cast a glance upon his shoulder with a cocky smirk, saying: "Never tell me the odds!"

Then they maneuvered the Falcon through to pull off in the light grave of a small celestial asteroid; working as a team, Poe and Ben flipped the Falcon neatly, linking it up and over it. And so they saved the Falcon from one more crush.

C-3PO noted a few similarities that Ben Solo had with his father and how that situation seemed familiar. Maybe after all the old good adventures they had with Han Solo weren't forever gone.

Finn fired again, and Rey followed, and most smaller parts blasted away. The Falcon had almost passed through the majority of the asteroids' field. "Now, get us out of here!" Finn whooped. And the pilots agreed. Chewie roared, leaving no doubt that he agreed with Finn.

The Falcon's engines roared, and C-3PO placed his hands against his eyes. "There'll be no escape, R2-D2; where are you? We are going to die!" C-3PO complained again, and R2-D2 and BB-8 showed up beeping.

"Chewie! Either shut him up or shut him down!" Ben clarified as he had enough from C-3PO's winning, as the Falcon had a final impact with the last astroid, and suddenly they burst into open space.

Finn and Rey took a deep breath, climbed out of the turret, and entered the cockpit, they felt a little sick to their stomach, but at least they were alive.

"The Falcon got a good beating," Poe brief them in as he was going through the Falcon's repair report. "We'll stop in the nearest planet to repair the damage and for refills."

Ben nodded as he took care of a few more notifications, as Chewie roared in disapproval. And Ben tilted his head to what Chewie meant, as he dropped his gaze to notice he was still wearing only the towel around him. "Yeah, well, I will go change!" he shot back.

Ben stood up from the co-pilot's seat, and Chewie sat down to look into a few more details. Ben took a few steps and then turned to look at the group of seven, who had gathered inside the cockpit, and he cracked a small smile. These small encounters between friends, working as a team to overcome a threat, Ben Solo had never known. Stretching those moments into smiles, he learned wisdom without words; there, he found peace in gratitude and more joy than there were moments to savor it.

That kind of life... A life worth living... A life worth dying for!

Adelgado28: Totally love small moments like that between Ben and Rey; I hope to include a few more. Unfortunately, they both are a bit pervert for the time being until they figure out what's going on with them. ^_^
