Chapter 1: The Start of a Journey

Thoughts echo in the depths of the heart, that we cannot always understand or comprehend. But one thing we all have in common is we want to understand what makes us who we are. The bonds we make, the inner depths of those emotions we can never quite reach.

Discovering oneself is not always written in black and white. But like many others, journeys need to be taken to discover one's trueself. Perhaps this is one story you can take that leap. Just who you are.

A young girl slowly was opening up her eyes, to the light shining through her curtains. Yawning as she slowly sat up in her bed, some of her black hair dropping from her shoulder. Grumbling, she looked around her bedroom and then down at her hands.

"That dream again? I don't understand what it's trying to tell me?" She mumbled, lost in her own thoughts again. Finally she decided to stand up from her bed, walking to her bathroom.

After a long while she dressed herself into a blue and white dress, a small jacket with no sleeves, white knee high socks and brown boots. As she looked at herself in her mirror, brushing out her long black hair, she caught glimpse of something on her dresser. Walking over to it, picking it up and clenching it tight.

The memories of her past long forgotten, apart from this one prized possession. A necklace she was sure was her Mother's. She knew today was the day, time to take a leap, just like in her dreams. The only person she knew who could reconnect the missing pieces. Her long lost brother.

"Marina! Can you come down for a moment?" A voice called out to the girl.

"Yes coming!" She tied the crown and heart embossed necklace around her neck, and ran downstairs.

As she entered the main room downstairs, she could see a blue haired maiden downstairs. The most unique and striking feature was her long pointed ears, for this young women happened to be a water elf who found Marina when she was a child. This was Nyx, the only mother figure she'd ever known.

"Well now, you look ready to go!" Nyx chimed happily, placing her hands together.

"Yes, it's time I set out on this journey, I can't keep dwelling and not knowing who I am Nyx.." Marina grasped her hand over her heart, then firmly looked up to her again.

"Oh yes dear, I know..." Nyx slowly walked towards her, wrapping her arms around her shoulders. "I'm just going to find it hard to let you go... I fear many things for you..".

Marina knew very well something bad had happened in her past, no matter how much she tried to remember. It always hurt her head when she tried and the pain was unbearable. There was always a shadow in the only memory she tried to grasp.

Marina shook her head and held onto Nyx. Part of her wondering if she would see her again, but she needed to do this. She needed to find her brother, the brother she missed. The only person who would know why she lost her memories.

"Everything will be fine Nyx, I'll be back before you know it." Marina reassured her as best she could.

"Now wait just a minute! You are not leaving without me!" A small voiced cried out as a small bright light flew towards them.

A small fairy appeared beside her folding her arms and pouting. Marina could tell her little friend was not happy to be forgotten.

"Mei of course not, I need you to come with me." Marina gently held her finger up to Mei.

Mei hugged Marina's finger gently, her face red but then slowly smiled.

"Good, because going on a journey alone is silly!" Mei flew over and perched herself on Marina's shoulder.

Nyx smiled at both of them gently, slowly holding up something in her hands. Marina looked at her, seeing a small bag.

"Here, I made you something to eat. To get you started on your adventure." Nyx gently handed it to Marina.

"Thank you Nyx, I promise to be back before you know it!" Marina continued to reassure her with a smile.

Nyx held in some of her emotions, but slowly smiled as she cupped Marina's face.

"Take care, my little light." Nyx held in her tears and was embraced by Marina one last time, holding her close.

Slowly Marina pulled away, smiling gently before turning and heading towards the hill where you could see the sun climbing over the summit. Marina looked back one last time waving back at her Elf mother, until finally she was out of sight.

"Marina, do you really think we will find your brother and your memories?" Mei asked, looking up from her perched shoulder.

"Someone once told me, you won't know until you take the first step" Marina gazed up at the bright sky closing her eyes taking a deep breath.

"Hmm.. whoever that was strange" Mei giggled gently, looking up ahead, quietly wondering where this path would take them both.

For a while, they both walked into the forest, things were quite still and eerie. Mei shivered gently as the wind started to get colder. Something didn't seem right in the forest, the sound of the birds were missing. Like something had sucked all the life out of the forest.

She stopped, glanced in a direction as she could hear something start to move in a bush nearby. Marina turned to look the same direction being cautious. The rustling got louder and more pronounced as slowly, a black creature emerged.

Marina had never seen anything like it, the dark creature continued to crawl towards her, getting bigger with each passign second. Its intense yellow eyes burning brightly. Slowly it towered over the two of them.

"Marina, run!" Mei tugged at her hair.

Marina was backing away from the dark creature, her heart pounding hard as the next thing she remembered was picking up the speed as she turned and began to run.

The dark creature was towering over the trees, looking through the foliage as it spotted them from above. It raised its huge hand and slammed it to the floor. Marina was barely able to jump out the way in time, as she did she ended up falling down a hill. Mei was flunged off her shoulder, catching her balance with her wings.

"Ah Marina!" Mei screamed as she watched Marina hit the bottom of the hill.

Marina winced as she grasped her shoulder, the fall knocking the wind out of her. She looked up at the sky, the giant shadow looming over her, her eyes widened as its giant hand went to grab for her.

"No! No! Stay Back!" She tried to move but the fall caused pain to erupt through her body.

"Marina! Hold on!" Mei called out flying as fast as she could, before finally getting infront of her.

Mei closed her eyes concentrating as her whole body started glowing, her whole form began to change as she turned into the size of a human. Mei glared up at the shadow, crying out as she formed a massive shield of light blocking the hand.

The Shadow pulled its hand back, but the might of its other arm he spread them out and began to fire beams of darkness at the pair. Marina's eyes widened struggling to get to her feet, rushing to Mei, reaching her hands out as Mei shrank to her small size again.

Marina gritted her teeth knowing the only thing that would help to protect them would be her light, but she was never sure if she could use it to help defend herself. As she raised her arm up, she blocked the first blast of darkness but was struck down by the next few that came her way.

'N-No... what is this thing? How can I... stop it?' She weakly looked up as the giant shadow walked towards them. Her consciousness fading as the last thing she remembered was a bright light exploding overhead.

A small figure with a black cloak dropped from the sky, and clashed with the Shadow.

"Light!" The small mouse called out swiping down a Giant Key of Gold.

The light was strong enough to push back the Shadow and slowly it began to vanish away into dust. The little mouse in the black cloak landed to the ground.

Footsteps could be heard coming towards the unconscious Marina and Mei lying on the ground. A White Duck wearing a blue outfit and holding a staff crouched beside her checking to see if she was still breathing.

A Dog wearing a green and yellow outfit and holding a shield approached behind him.

"Your Majesty, they're still breathing." Donald spoke towards his King.

"That's good, we were just in time. I hate to think what would have happened if that Darkside took her before we got here." Mickey pulled his hood down, looking troubled as he gazed at Marina's features.

'This is really the girl we've been looking for?' He deeply thought to himself.

"Shall we take them back to Master Yensid?" Goofy asked the King, carefully picking Marina and Mei up.

"Yes I believe that is the best course of action." Mickey pulled an object from his pocket, a blue shard shaped like a star.

He walked towards both of his friends holding the shard.

"Master Yensid's Tower!" He called out.

The 5 of them were enveloped within the light of the shard, and they vanished within the light. The light flew up into the sky vanishing like a shooting star.
