「Act 65: I love you

Blossom Forest, Eanor, 37 ABY

The red dust and heavy mist were fainting away. The lights of the torches flickered as Rey remained outside of the healing chamber where Ben was brought. Her eyes were filled with tears and weariness; close to her remained Poe and Chewie. Their wounds were treated, and although they were weary, they couldn't rest until they would make sure that Ben was alive. He was severely injured; that battle almost cost him his life.

Inside the small chamber, there was a stone bed, a fireplace, and a wooden window. On the stone bed laid Ben. The maiden had brought warm water and bandages; the healer had ripped the fabric close to his wounds. His vision was blurry, but he could hear the maiden and the healer. He could not answer; the pain was too much to bear. The healer tried his best to sow the large wounds on his back and front. The maidens cleaned the blood, over and over again.

Rey remained facing the door, speechless ignoring everyone. She was trying to connect with Ben through the Force, as she needed to make sure that he was alright. She wanted to heal him earlier, but Ben declined with all his being. 'Stupid Solo' She could not afford to lose him now. Not now that she had so much to figure out, he was important, too important to her.

After an hour, the healer stepped out of the room. "We treated his wounds; he had lost a lot of blood. He needs to rest," he told them and took his leave, allowing Rey, Poe, and Chewie to enter the small room.

His dirty and ripped clothes were dropped on the ground in a pile. His skin and hair were clean. Bandages were wrapped around his chest and his back. His skin, pale and cold. A few more cuts and bruises were noticeable. A white silk sheet was covering his lower parts, underneath he remained naked. Rey worried, walked over, and sat next to him; her finger softly ran against his dark hair, brushing a few strands away from his face.

Poe leaned against the door, puzzled. Every single motion of Rey revealed that she was worried about Ben. Yet, the way she was touching him, more gentle ... sweeter. It seemed different, emitting a scent of awkwardness in the air. The way the Jedi perceived around him reminded him of someone who was deeply in love.

"You must rest! And eat!" the pilot suggested as he stared at her. Rey was injured and tired as well. "There is nothing else we can do here."

"Please, Poe, go rest! I'll stay!" Rey replied, but her focus never left Ben's side. She was leaning above him, softly touching Ben, making sure he was breathing. She needed to be there and make sure he would remain alive.

Poe sighed because now he understood that Rey's feelings about Ben were severe, and the irony was Poe wasn't sure if she had even figured out that she was in love with Ben. "All is well, Rey! Stay with him, since you wish! Yet, we have to talk, buddy!" he said. "Chewie, Let's go rest; let them be!" Poe added, and the Wookiee roared as he cast a glance towards Ben troubled.

"I know, buddy, he will be fine!" Poe tried to assure Chewie, but he feared that Ben's injuries were crucial. 'Damn, Solo.' Since the day Ben saved him in Jakku, he was reckless. He jumped into any danger without a second thought, and Ben would save others with his own life. Only like that, he would risk everything, a brave fool. But Poe grasped his feelings; his need to redeem himself would be his downfall. And honestly, if you asked Poe a year ago, he didn't care. But now Ben was one of his buddies, like Finn, Rey, and Chewie. He was part of his family.

Rey sat with unseeing eyes for a while, as if walking in a distant memory or listening to sounds in the night far away. She caressed her thin fingers across his forehead, down to his cheek to clean his tears. The fire was burning, and the undergo rapid combustion of the wood freed a familiar scent that was blended with the odor of blood. Surprised, but not much relieved, she witnessed Ben finally opening his eyes.

He cast a look around him, then with a gentle nudge, she encountered him. His vision was more apparent now, and he tried to withstand his pain. Through the Force, Ben sensed her sorrow. Then her appearance; although she was still dazzling to his eyes, she seemed tired and weary. Her silence absorbed his thoughts. 'Was he the cause of that?'

Rey spoke softly as if afraid to dislodge more sound from her voice, fearing it would hurt him. "Ben... You are safe now! Rest!"

Her eyes showed the kind of gentle concern he had witnessed before. She laid her hand lightly on his bare shoulder, and instead of cringing like he usually did, he was soothed by it. Rey rested her left hand there and spoke with such a soft voice he felt her words calming him more by the way they were said than the actual words. It felt as if he were wrapped in a blanket of her caring. How could he not consider his actions now, now that he could see how profoundly they affected her too.

Ben curled off his lips, and a queer glance fell on her; he lifted his arm and let his fingers touch her face. "Are you hurt? Why are you here? You should rest?" Ben softly asked her.

Signs of trouble thoughts were emerging to be read by her facial expression. "I'm fine!" she assured him softly, touching his pale cheek. "Rest now!" she ordered him.

Dark eyes fell on brown and Ben smiled at her in such a way her world around her led on fire, Rey liked every version of Ben, but a smiling Ben caused her heart to skip beat after beat. He softly grabbed her arm and pulled her close to him. "Rest!" he demanded, as well. And Rey didn't fight him back; she softly leaned next to him and cuddled close.

"Ben," she whispered as she closed her eyes, wanting to share with him her thoughts and worries. She almost lost him again, and this time it hurt so much. "I..."

Ben smirked and interrupted her, "I know!" his voice broke as he held her close. "Rest now; we'll talk later!" he said. And like that, both drifted asleep weary.

Dawn came after the day of battle, and it was fair with rising lights, clouds, and the wind turning north. Finn was resting on a chair next to Rey. Minutes earlier, he was debating Ben to change, and he would remain with Rey. Finn gave him his word that he would keep a close eye on Rey. Yet, sleep seemed to be also his friend, and soon he drifted asleep.

Were her thoughts visible, they would be an inverse explosion, crazy chaotic turns, and twists of light all coming together to just one idea, to only one word? ' I know!' That simple word spun in a way that appeared without design or logic, like it danced its way back to love, to a way of living that celebrates life without damaging the very people we hold dearest. The thought is just that, a fiction of the mind, so how was it that it could remain so unreasonably obstinate inside her mind. Why is it that an infraction of the mind, wandering a path that is destined to go downtrodden brings such internal grief?

What awoke her wasn't her hungry stomach or Finn's snoring, but Ben's voice inside her mind repeating the same word again and again, 'I know!' She could sleep a little longer, nuzzling against the comfort of the warm blankets that were brought to her over the night. Yet, her mind was on fire. Her curiosity rose and awoke every vein on her body.

'Sash! Your irritating mind, and let me sleep! I do not wish to be awakened; I do not wish to deal with it!? Why can't you profess as if you did not hear it? A few days ago, you were in denial. And more of all you do know, such a bizarre dream cannot be. Named it passion or instinct, called it as you wish. Yet, leave me be!'

Rey struggled to keep her eyes shut; however, that could not be accomplished quickly. With the wheeling mind of hers and Ben's word. She awoke and yawned. She was stretching her arms. She stared at Finn, who was sleeping so deep that his snore was indeed awoken, everyone. Her urge to speak her mind increased. She needed to see Ben. Wrong or right, she could no longer oppose that burning feeling.

She tiptoed through the corridors, with a childish act not to be spotted. What was wrong with her? Did she hit her head the previous day, in the battle? Or maybe Dark Rey's lightsaber included some funky poison that had her acting like a teen girl. She was supposed to be sad and severe. But today, she felt like a cherry blossom wanting to be teased.

She leaned against the wooden door with those thoughts, and with her body weight, she opened it widely. She stepped inside the room, where Ben was. Suddenly, her thoughts fall into deep silence. Her eyes froze at the view of a half-nude Ben. She was sure she heard her mind whistle. 'Pervert, what is wrong with you?' her mind commented.

Ben was more confused than her. He had already recalled what had happened last night. Perhaps, he knew he should stick to just one path, and that meant leaving such memories to be figments and no more. Maybe his guilt was a warning that he cannot bring only sorrow to look through doors. Yet there are days when it felt like not approaching those 'doors' would bring worse pain, that walking away will hurt all the more. Ben had not forgotten where he stood; his past was the most significant barrier that kept him from moving on.

Though seeing her so worried, could not keep him away nevertheless. It was clear; they could never live a happy life that most around the Galaxy could. Yet, denying his feelings was no longer an option. Before darkness had claimed them, or death rose upon them. He would come clean. And, could all this remain as unspoken words... He guessed it was for the best. No-one would get hurt; the status-quo remained for better or worse. Just when he agreed that he was the master of his thoughts, fate took a new turn.

Suddenly, Rey, his Rey, had stormed inside the chamber, which was offered to him to change. His wound was treated, and the bandages remained around his torso. However, the rest of his body was nude. His long dark hair laid entirely back. He had managed to wear his boxer and nothing else, as his back was turned away, allowing Rey to have a clear view of the outline of his back and shoulders. His eyes spun in many directions as he saw her reflection against the window.

He turned around, allowing his gaze to fall on hers. His cheeks revealed a light reddish color. He softly lifted his arms, trying to cover his chest with a black shirt he held in his hands. Though, still, Rey could see his physically slender, vigorous, and robust figure. It was so perfectly aligned with the rest of his body. He was like an untold song, and unwritten tale, in the eyes of Rey.

Rey interrupted his thoughts as she first spoke, "Last night... You said... You know... What is it that you know!"

A small smile appeared on his face, shading away his worries. "You are well! Have you eaten?" Ben asked as his eyes sought every inch of her body, noticing her well-being. "I said that," he admitted, "... there is no special meaning behind it!"

Ben was out of his mind! Stupid Ben! But right now, he did not make any sense. "There isn't?" she questioned, and step after step, stumbling her way, she appeared near to him. She paused at the sight of his injury. Stupid, Ben, always ending up in danger and is injured. Seeing him hurt made her heart cry. "Is this my fault?" she asked him troubledly as her fingers touched his wound softly above the bandage. "I should have fought next to you!"

Ben shook his head; of course, it wasn't her fault that he ended up injured. He softly took her hand and placed it against his heart. "This is your fault!" he said, sounding cliche and even losing his coolness, for once. Yet, he did not care. The sorrow and sadness he witnessed last night on her face and mind shook his existence. And he would not allow himself to make the same mistake again. They could never be together as one issue, but keeping away from her was another. He could no longer deny himself.

Rey tilted her head, and her heart tightened. Her hand rested against his chest. And she was not sure if the dizziness that overtook her was because of his words and actions or just because she was hungry. "Are you trying to unleash long-buried emotions and stir what was settled?" Rey softly whispered.

"What is settled?" his voice came strongly. "Perhaps it is just selfishness! I can't ignore all those emotions any longer. Those emotions are real and even buried or stirred; you are also drawn into me, as much as I am drawn into you!" Ben took a deep breath, he felt his heart beating like crazy, but he continued, "I know my thoughts are a strange Sea to you. Believe me; they are even eerie towards me. Should I speak of them I know they hold no future, should I bury them!?"

"If those were my thoughts..." Rey said, "they would be an inverse explosion, crazy chaotic turns and twists of light all coming together to just one idea, to just one word." She leaned a bit closer. "If you must know, it was never lack of love, more than fear of understanding those feelings."

Ben smiled in earnest, "I never sought you to say any word. Because I already knew it through your words and your actions. I own one heart... It was mine, to begin with, to give to whom I want. Of all the Galaxy and beyond. Only, a stubborn Jedi won her way through. I cannot promise you anything. I can willfully and knowingly cause us pain by only admitting there is no future for us. Yet, I had to tell you that... I love you!"

Why was Ben now so mesmerizing? The sudden, bright, moving sparks he emitted were compelling to watch and seem mysterious, foreign in her eyes. Yet, the colors she saw were created by light bouncing off the objects' reflective surfaces around him. Ben now, in combination with his words, had allured her inside a trapping neverland. A neverland of bright light and dazzling colors like fireworks. Loud, cheering sounds made her mind spin. He spun so hard that her heart pounded out of her chest. And if his wounds would allow it, she would leap herself into his embrace and remain there forever.

It was now; her mind should yell at her to step back. But it was still occupied by the dazzling fireworks. It was now her heart; it should freeze and raise her walls. But it was troubled to beat. Worthless, mind, and compassion, for once, when they were needed, they could not aid her. What response should she now give? She had no words, no lines, nothing to say. Everything was dazzling, happily dazzling.

Ben stepped closer and wrapped his arms carefully around her. His black shirt was no longer in his hands but fell on the wooden ground. "I know," Ben told her as he leaned closer, kissing her deeply, without any remorse. A smile brighter than ever appeared against her face. Rey returned the kiss, wrapping her arms around his waist. She blocked out her mind, allowing the fireworks to go crazy inside her head. What mattered only now was her Ben. The rest they would figure it out later, or they would never find an answer to their questions. But for the time being, she allowed being spoiled and wrong, as they kissed.

And she finally threw one and only thought into his mind using the Force 'I love you!'
