EPILOGUE

Act 79: Family

Tatooine, 40 ABY

The twins were already a year old. The new era would be brighter and more peaceful than the previous one. The Galaxy was now in harmony, and it felt safe to have a family and raise children. The twins could freely walk around and even form a word here and there. That meant troubles. They needed more than one person to keep a watch after them. Rey and Ben were not sure where they found so much energy. This year the pair had only a few days of peace. The rest of their days were spent chasing after two little troublemakers.

Also, a long-debate had ended. Since all this time, they had not agreed on how to call the baby boy. It always ended with Rey and Poe debating about the name but never to settle. In the end, Ben had enough of their foolishness. He stepped up and named his son Zen. It was the most strange name given to the little Solo. But he did not care, and he was not going to listen to anyone. It was almost a year that he waited for his 'idiotic wife' and his best friend to come up with a name, and they could not agree. He could no longer have his son nameless, as both of them were stubborn enough to agree.

They had just begun to figure out the world slowly. They could now communicate and speak out their thoughts. Gradually the character was evident. Zen was honest; he would think before he acted or talked, he was curious about the world. But took the time he needed to explore and think it through before he would decide.

On the other hand, Kira was stubborn. She did not wait for a reason; she acted before thinking. Yet, she would always accept the consequence of her actions. The truth was when the twins were plotting together, Ben and Rey were in big troubles.

Luke had also lost his peace. Since the day his grandniece found out how special she was. Both were loved equally. But, she indeed won always arguments. She slowly figured out when her cuteness could win and when her serious face was needed. And Luke was not the only one troubled. Ben could not also deny her anything when she used her puppy eyes on him. Rey only was firmly keeping her in place. It was clear that cuteness did not affect her mother. Serious faces or dramatic acts either. Rey loved both of her children more than life itself. Yet, they could never win favors with silly actions. If they asked honestly, she would always grant their wishes. But wicked acts had no effects on Rey.

A figure blurs on the horizon. A familiar silhouette. Dirty, ragged. They were walking for a long time, finally back home after a long day around the campus. BB-8 rolled forward and beeped excitedly. The kids hear the droid, stop their game, look to the entrance door. The twins stormed over, jumping against their father; BB-8 followed. Soon, Rey joined them, her arms wrapped around them, and Ben trapped them inside his embrace.

Inside that embrace, he held the most crucial part of his existence, the only that mattered, in his dark world: his family. And with that, he had found balance; balance within could lead to peace and justice in the galaxy. In the end, the answer was always there. It had nothing to do with the Light part of the Force or the Dark One; it still had to do with the BALANCE.

Tatooine, 44 ABY

When Kira was around five, Ben and Rey planned a trip to Ajan Kloss. The rest of their friends were still living there. Rey would visit them from time to time. They had agreed they would not take the children on long trips until at least they were ten years old. Yet, Kira wanted to go. She tried all her cute faces and her serious acts. But Ben denied her for the first time. In the end, he could not see her crying face and escaped telling her that it was her mother's call. And only Rey could grant her access. She spent an hour crying and begging her mother to allow her to follow. In the end, Rey had enough. She sat in the middle of the room and cried with her. It was then when Kira found out; she would never fool her mother.

Rey returned a month later, finding a bigger mess. Her sweet daughter managed to persuade Ben to allow her to follow him around inside the Falcon. A week clear, it was clear who the next Solo of the family was. Kira found the Falcon fascinating. It was like a magical world. She didn't only want to learn how to fly it but how to repair it as well. The news found Ben unprepared. His daughter was like a small version of himself.

"Kira!" Ben said, "You can't hide from me! I know Falcon better than you! You better show up before I find you!"

His son lifted his gaze and looked at him for a moment, and then he continued to read his book shaking his head. He never understood his sister's need to learn how to fly the Falcon or repair it. For her age, Kira was cunning, like an adult. She knew how to win their father's attention and always have her way. It was even worse with Rey gone.

Kira's long dark hair enveloped her face as she was trying to repair a minor issue with the circuits. She never paid any attention to her father calling her. "Zen, I could have used your help down here," she retorted as something sparked under the cockpit.

"No, thank you, we already have too many mechanics in this family," Zen answered as he kept reading his book relaxed. "Aren't you the one who wants to impress Solo?"

"I'm not! I…" Kira didn't know what she was trying to say. She just wanted to repair the circuits, "I don't need to impress Solo; he already knows how capable I am..."

Zen laughed slightly, "Just because you managed to fly the Falcon once, and to repair a few of it problems... doesn't make you an expert!" He turned the next page on his book and paused, looking at his sister.

Kira cracked a sly smile, "You forget, I already master to balance while holding Solo's saber." She brushed her hair away from her face proudly.

"You did what?" Rey's voice echoed through the Falcon as she appeared standing in the entrance glaring at Kira. "Tell you, father; he is in trouble..."

"I'm not your secretary," Kira responded as she went back, fixing the circuit. Zen returned reading his book.

With this realization that Kira found access to his lightsaber came another certainty, even more gut-wrenching: That Rey had returned. "I never let her even touch my lightsaber," Ben defended himself as he looked at Rey with an apologetic gaze.

"It's not like you keep the saber around you all the time. And whenever Rey is around," Kira lifted her gaze and looked at her father, "You are acting like a lovesick puppy! And we have all the time in the world even to take the Falcon for a drive."

Rey hit a smile, sending Ben her thoughts through the force. 'She is right, you know, you acting so silly! But how did she managed to handle a lightsaber? Ben, it's dangerous.'

After so many years, Ben blushed and dropped his gaze, and it took only a gaze from Rey to make him look like a fanboy. 'You aren't any better, or do you want me to remind you,' He nudged her through the force. 'But you are right, it is dangerous. I think it's time for us to talk to them, to explain about our family.'

Rey wrapped her arm around Ben's waist and nodded as he stepped next to her. "We will have a long talk, young lady, for touching my personal belongings!" Ben scolded her. "And tonight, we are going to tell you everything about the Skywalkers, Solo and Palpatine. There is a lot you don't know. And we believe it's time for you to know!"

And indeed, as promised that night, Ben and Rey spent our narrating both of their children through their family history. They didn't hide the truth. They knew that the history of all three families was dark and hard to cope with. But Ben wouldn't repeat his parent's mistakes; he would explain to them the truth and let them know his deeds and the deeds of his family and Rey's.
