Lips of an Angel
Chapter 3: I'm Not Giving Up
Hinata's POV:
"Naruto, why are you always in my dreams?" I head to the window placing my hand on the cold glass. "Naruto do you..." he interrupts me.
"Yes, I've dreamt of you too." I don't get the chance to answer for a little, sleepy voice catches my attention.
"Momma..." I feel my blood drain from my face when I hear the voice cut through the darkness of the living room. Why is he awake? He should be sleeping. With the phone still against my ear, I quickly turn around to see my son standing in the living room rubbing his eyes with his small hand and yawning.
"I'm sorry Naruto, but I have to hang up." I hang up on him not giving him a chance to reply. "Sweetie, why are you awake?" I walk towards my son and crouch down in front of him.
"I had a nightmare." He says. My eyes soften as I push a strand of blond hair away from his face.
"Again?" he nods. "It's ok sweetie. It was just a dream." I reassure him.
"Momma why are you crying?" he asks.
"I'm not crying." I immediately wipe my tears away and force a smile. "See there are no tears." He tilts his head to the side and furrows his eyebrows as he pounders my words. I giggle at his expression he's just so adorable especially with those whiskers' birthmarks on each of his cheeks. His expression softens when he hears me giggle.
"Momma can I spend the night with you and uncle Kiba?" he asks with puppy eyes.
"Hmmm… I have a better idea." His blue eyes shine with curiosity. "How about you and I have a small sleepover in your room? We can watch your favorite movie, or I can tell you a story. What do you say?" he shrieks in excitement and jumps up and down.
"Yeah! Let's do that and we can also play with my toys and… and we can…!" he babbles on and on planning activities, we could do together.
"Shhh... keep it down. You're going to wake up Kiba." I whisper and place my finger on my lips singling him to quiet down. He nods his head up and down. He copies my gesture by placing his small finger on his lips as he tries to hold back his giggles. He's so silly. He just melts me completely with his cuteness. "Come on let's go have our sleepover," I whisper not wanting to wake up Kiba. I carefully pick up my son and carry him to his room.
"Momma." He says as he snuggles his nose into my neck. I nod at him signaling him to continue. "Momma, when am I going to meet my daddy?"
"Soon Boruto, very soon." I hug him tightly against my chest.
~The Next Day~
Normal Pov:
"Morning!" Kiba walks into the kitchen in a cheerful mood stretching his arms over his head.
"Morning." Hinata replies while pouring some milk in a small blue cup and handing it to Boruto. "I made pancakes and bacon want some?" Kiba smiles taking a seat next to Boruto who is busy devouring his food.
"Yeah, please." He turns to the small boy and chuckles with amusement at seeing him take huge bites of his food. "Hey, champ slow down you're going to choke." he playfully ruffles Boruto's hair who in return whines.
Hinata smiles as she watches her son glare and mumbles something at Kiba who in return laughs. Every morning it's the same with those too, Kiba bothering Boruto causing her son to get annoyed at him, or sometimes it was the other way around. Boruto had the knack of playing pranks on Kiba, but Kiba seemed to enjoy the little pranks. Kiba loved the little blond boy with all his heart and Hinata knew that she could entrust Boruto to him.
"Uncle! Stop." Boruto whines. "Momma! Uncle won't stop bothering me!" Kiba continues to mess up his hair.
"Kiba, please stop bothering him." she says as she places a plate full of warm pancakes and bacon in front of him.
"Fine. I'll stop for now." he then smirks. "I'll get you later." Boruto sticks his tongue out to him and continues to devour his breakfast. "Anyways, Hinata my sister called, and she said to please forgive her she can't look after Boruto today. Something about an emergency surgery popping out of nowhere in her vet."
"What? But today I have an important appointment with a potential client." Hinata chews her lower lip in frustration. "I can't take him with me to the appointment. You know how he acts when he gets bored. He can't stay still for a long period of time and I don't know how long the appointment is going to take" Images of Boruto running around and causing a scene went through her head. She shivered at the thought and inwardly sighed. Boruto is a well-behaved boy who always listens to her especially when she's mad. But he's also a little boy full of energy and curiosity and he is always looking for something new to entertain him. He just couldn't stay still for more than a minute and she knew it was a bad idea taking Boruto to her first job appointment since arriving to Konoha.
"I'm sorry. If I could take him to work with me I would, but a police station is not a place for a kid." Kiba takes a sip of his coffee. "How about you leave him with your father? He is the only person aside from us that can deal with Boruto." Hinata pounders his words. That's true her father could handle Boruto on his own. He's patient with him and knows how to keep his grandson entertain from causing chaos. But there's a problem Hiashi is the CEO of the largest hotel chains all over the world, and the CEO of Hyuga Hotel Group wouldn't miss a day from work just to babysit his hyperactive grandson.
"My father is a busy person, and I will not bother him just to babysit Boruto." Hinata sighs in defeat. "I guess I'm taking Boruto with me." Boruto finishes drinking his milk and turns to his mother with interest in hearing her words.
"Momma, where are we going?" he jumps up and down on his seat his eyes wide with excitement "Am I meeting Daddy today?" Hinata's head snaps towards her son who's still jumping on his chair. She stays silent not knowing what to say. Her throat becomes dry and her heart rate increases. "Uncle! I'm gonna meet my daddy! Momma said so last night" Boruto continues to jump on the chair oblivious to Kiba's change of mood.
" Boruto, how many times have I told you not to jump on the chair?!" Kiba scolds the little blond boy who in return stops jumping and sits down with a frown on his chubby face. Boruto apologizes and crosses his arms in front of his chest sulking. Realizing the tone, he used towards the little boy Kiba is overcome with guilt when he sees him frown. "You know it's dangerous and I don't want you to get hurt." Kiba says in concern as he caresses Boruto's head. Boruto nods at him but keeps sulking knowing he did something wrong that caused Kiba to be mad at him.
"Sweetie go play with your toys for a while." Hinata helps her son off the chair and watches him run out of the kitchen. She feels Kiba's intense glare on her. She returns the glare anger visible in her lavender eyes. "You have no right to talk to him like that!"
"Oh, you're wrong! I have every right over him! He's my son!" Kiba snaps.
"But he's NOT your son! You have no right over him!" Hinata yells her body becomes numb when she hears her words. How could she say that to the only father figure Boruto has had in his life? To the man who has loved, protected, and cared not only for Boruto but her too these past four years. The man who gave everything up in order to stay by her side and this is the way she's repaying him. By telling him he's not Boruto's father? She crossed the line. She felt disgusted with herself. "Kiba... I'm sorry... I didn't... mean to hurt you." Hinata stammers. Her heartfelt heavy with remorse when she saw the dark brown hair man's pained expression.
"No, you're right. I have no right over Boruto." Kiba lets out a painful sigh and stands up. "I'm not his father. Thanks for reminding me." He turns to leave but Hinata stops him from leaving.
"Kiba, please don't leave like this." she tightens her grip around his wrist. She wanted to fix this. She didn't want to him to feel he wasn't important to her or Boruto. She was grateful to him for all he has done for her and her son. She owed him so much and she didn't want this to cause them to drift farther apart. So that's why she wanted to fix this now and get over it. She also has an important appointment today and she didn't want this problem to occupy her mind. She needed to have an empty mind free of troubles in order to focus on her job. "Kiba please forgive me. I didn't mean to hurt you. It's just that I just didn't like the way you talked to Boruto." Kiba turns to look at her.
"So, you're going through with it?" he asks. Hinata looks at him confused.
"What do you mean?"
"I'm talking about Boruto meeting... his father." It angered him talking about Boruto's real father.
"Kiba, we already discussed this. One of the reasons why we returned to Konoha was for Boruto to meet his father." Hinata felt him tense. He was not happy about her decision to finally fulfilling Boruto's wish. He was against it he made it clear from the start when they first discussed this matter. He stubbornly stood his ground not agreeing with her decision, but then he gave in when he realized it was for the best for Boruto to finally meet his father.
"I know... but I just think it's too soon for him to meet his father. Besides you still have a problem you have to take care of first." he runs his hand through his hair. "Naruto. First, you have to meet up with Naruto and tell him the news. I doubt he'll be overjoyed after finding out that his son survived the accident, and you hid it from him in order to have your revenge." Hinata tenses up at hearing his words.
"Kiba... you're being harsh." she let's go of his wrist and looks away.
"I apologize for my harsh words Hinata, but you know this is true. Once he finds out his son is alive, and you kept him away from him he's going to hate you. I bet he'll go berserk and probably he'll fight over Boruto's custody just to hurt you. You know he can be a vengeful person when he's betrayed." Kiba's words paralyze Hinata in fear. He's right about Naruto. Naruto can be nice, friendly, and have a big soft heart, but he can also be cruel and vengeful when he gets hurt and betrayed by someone he cares about. It doesn't matter if it's a friend, family member, or even her. He'll make sure to make them pay for what they did to him. But now it wasn't the time to be swallowed in fear. She already made up her mind and she's going through it. She can't break the promise she made to her son it doesn't matter if she must go through hell in order to make her son happy. She's a mother and she won't let anything frighten her, not even Naruto.
"He can do whatever he wants to me. I'll accept whatever action he plans to take on me, but I'm not running away from this. It's time for me to face the consequences of my actions." She stands tall with confidence. Kiba sees the determination in her eyes and knows he can't do anything to stop her. She already made up her mind the only thing he could do was to stand by her side and give her support.
"Alright then." he then embraces her placing a small kiss on her soft hair. "Just remember I'll always be by your side to support and protect you from anything or anyone." Hinata relaxes in his arms allowing all her negative feelings to disappear into thin air. "Well, it's time for me to leave." he lets go of her and smiles. "I'll see you later." Hinata smiles back and walks him out of the house. "Oh, by the way, good luck on your first job. I know they're going to like your work."
"Thank you, Kiba. Please take care." Kiba nods and gets on his black pickup truck. He turns on the engine then drives out of the driveway waving goodbye at Hinata.
Hinata heads back inside the house wanting to forget what happened moments ago in the kitchen. Today she wasn't going to think about Naruto or the argument she had with Kiba. Today is her day and she's going to make sure everything goes smoothly especially with her client. She was determined to get that job. She needed something to keep her distracted from the nearing storm she's been avoiding for years.
"Sweetie! It's time to go!" she smiles when she sees her son running up to her excited to spend the day with her.
~Sakura's Home~
"Naruto? What a surprise to see you here." Sakura says as she allows Naruto to enter her house. "Wait, don't tell me the reason you're here is that you had another fight with Nina." she looks at him annoyed. She was tired of hearing him complain about his girlfriend. She never liked that annoying, egocentric, arrogant woman. Just thinking about her made her blood boil in anger.
"Hehe. This time I'm not here to talk about Nina." he scratches the back of his head grinning widely showing his perfectly white straight teeth at Sakura.
"Then why are you here?" she looks at him suspiciously. Naruto is a busy businessman who never has time to visit his friends anymore especially now that he's taken over his father's company. It was weird to see him early morning in her home when he's supposed to be in his office giving out commands. "Aren't you supposed to be fulfilling your CEO tasks? I bet Shikamaru is cursing at you right now for not being in your office doing paperwork." Naruto chuckles at her words.
"Don't worry about it. Shikamaru told me to take a few hours off." he takes off his shoes and heads to the living room. "We have an appointment with an event planner in a few hours, so he told me to relax and meet him later at the place we agreed to meet the event planner." Sakura nods.
"Event planner? Are you having a company event?" Naruto nods taking a seat on the couch. "For what?"
"We're launching a new jewelry line for this fall." Sakura becomes interested in hearing the words jewelry line. She and their friends were always invited to those huge showcases that her blond friend throws every year. He always goes all out in those events not caring how much money he spends. He makes sure everything is perfect from the displays of the jewels to the food they serve. During the past years, Naruto worked hard to make a name for himself as a jewel designer. He was determined to become a famous jewelry designer like his father and take over his father's company, which Jiraiya managed after his parents died in a car accident. Now, that he became the CEO of the 'Namikaze and Co.' his jewelry line gained more attention in different countries. His jewelry designs were unique which caught the attention of anyone who laid eyes on the unique and exquisite jewels. Famous, rich, and powerful people around the world travel miles to attend Naruto's amazing showcases and especially to buy the exquisites jewels. Last year his company released a new jewelry line, and it was one of Sakura's favorites. She fell in love with last year's showcase and especially with the jewels. Her friend may be clumsy, dense and a knucklehead, but he had sense when it came to jewels. "So, am I invited?" she smiled sweetly at him.
"Of course, you are!" he exclaimed. "You know you're first on the invitation list. Shikamaru would be sending the invitations by the end of next month. I'm inviting all of our friends too."
"Oh, I can't wait!" She clasps her hands in excitement against her chest. "I still have the sakura necklace Sasuke bought me last year. That piece is my favorite from your last year's line."
"I'm glad you like my work." he smiles. He opens his mouth to say something when suddenly he feels something small, but heavy jump on him causing him to yelp in pain.
"UNCLE! You're here!" a small girl with short black hair wearing red glasses looks at him excitedly. "I missed you!"
"Sarada! Be careful!" Sakura scolds her five-year-old daughter. "Apologize to your uncle." the little girl named Sarada nods her heads towards her mother then she looks up to the blond-haired man who's trying to regain his breath.
"I'm sorry uncle." she apologizes while tears brim on the corners of her black eyes. Naruto smiles softly at her and hugs her tightly.
"I missed you too my little peanut!" Naruto calls her by the nickname Sasuke gave his daughter. Sarada frowns at hearing the nickname causing Naruto to laugh knowing well that she dislikes that nickname.
"Don't call me peanut." she huffs loudly.
"Ok ok. I won't call you peanut." Naruto's eyes soften. Whenever he saw Sarada his heart clenched remembering his unborn child. If he was alive, he would be Sarada's age, and probably the two of them would have been best friends. His heart drops at just thinking about how his life would be different if his son had survived.
"Naruto, do you want something to drink?" Sakura interrupts him from his deep thoughts.
"Oh, yes, please. I would like some coffee." He tries to hide his gloomy expression with a cheerful smile, but Sakura notices it. She knew he was thinking about his son. Whenever he was with her daughter, she saw the sadness in his eyes. He can't hide anything from her. She can read him like an open book.
"Momma! I want cookies and milk!" Sarada says while playing with Naruto's necklace.
"Ok ok, miss Sarada." Sakura rolls her eyes in annoyance at her daughter's bossy character. She walks to the kitchen and prepares Naruto's coffee. Waiting on the coffee to be ready she opens the refrigerator and takes out a gallon of milk. "Sarada, do you want warm or cold milk?" she asks her daughter from the kitchen.
"Cold! I hate warm milk!" Sarada answers annoyed at the question. I vein pops on Sakura's forehead at hearing her daughter's response. She takes a deep breath to calm down her rising temper. She had to talk to Sasuke to stop spoiling their daughter. She's starting to think she can boss anyone. Sakura pours the milk on a small red cup that belongs to Sarada and prepares some cookies on the plate.
"Hey, Sakura." Naruto calls her from the living room.
"Yeah?" she replies while she places the plate of cookies in a tray.
"Hinata called me last night." Sakura's eyes widen in shock. Did she hear right? Did he say Hinata called him? She leaves what she's doing and runs to the living room only to see a cheerful Naruto playing with Sarada.
"What did you say?" she asks in disbelief. She wanted to make sure she heard right.
"Hinata called me last night," he repeats his words. Sakura observes trying to figure him out. Is he going insane? Naruto keeps playing with Sarada without a care of the world.
"Why? What happened? Is she back? What did she say?" Sakura had so many questions bombarding her mind. Naruto turns to her and they lock gazes she waits for him to answer her.
"She hasn't moved on... Do you know what that means?" Naruto asks. Sakura remains silent not knowing what to say. "She still loves me." A huge grin appears on his handsome face. Happiness filled his cheerful blue eyes. Sakura shakes her head from the trance she was in.
"Oh, Naruto but isn't she dating Kiba?" She watches Naruto's grin disappear in an instance. He scrunches his nose with distaste at hearing Kiba's name. "Last thing I heard she was living in Suna with Kiba."
"That's what I heard too, but..." he gets interrupted by Sarada.
"Mommy! Where are my cookies and milk?" Sarada whines at her mother. Sakura lets out a groan remembering what she was doing before Naruto dropped this bomb on her.
"Naruto give me a sec!" she runs to the kitchen. "Don't move ok!" Naruto chuckles at Sakura's reaction. He waits for the pink-haired woman while he watches Sarada coloring and humming happily. "I'm back!" Sakura returns with a tray. "Sarada here's your cookies and milk." she places the plate of cookies and the red cup of milk on the coffee table. Sarada thanks her mother and excitedly starts to eat her cookies. "And here's your coffee." she hands the cup to Naruto who gladly accepts it.
"Thanks." he takes a sip enjoying the coffee's flavor as he relaxes his back against the couch.
"Where did we leave off?" she sits down excited to continue with their conversation.
"We were talking about Hinata dating Kiba." he scowls.
"Oh right! Well like I said before the last thing I heard about Hinata was that she was dating Kiba and he even moved to Suna to be with her." Sakura says remembering the conversation she had with Ino outside her flower shop. In fact, Ino was the one who told her the news. Ino was the only one from their groups of friends who kept in touch with Hinata after she left the village. So, it made sense that Ino knew about Hinata's relationship with Kiba. To say the least, Sakura was surprised when Ino told her about their relationship. She knew Hinata and Kiba were close friends, but she never imagined those two being in a romantic relationship. It was weird.
"Yeah... that's one of the reasons I stopped searching for Hinata." Naruto sighs. "I didn't want to interfere with their relationship."
"And the other reasons where?" Sakura asks interested.
"I wanted her to be happy." pain becomes visible in his voice. "Even if I was breaking into pieces from missing her and not having her with me... I wanted her to forget about me and move on with her life." tears threaten to fall as his voice breaks, but he continues speaking. "But now I know she's not happy with him." He looks up at Sakura. "Now that I know she's still in love with me I'm going to fight for her. This time I'm not giving up as I did before." Sakura smiles seeing the determination in her friend.
"You can do it, Naruto." she clasps her hand around his. "I want both of you too finally be happy together."
"Thanks, Sakura." he smiles.
