JAWS Alliance was made up of four moderately big famiglias. So we broke up into big clumps to attack all four opponents at once. Team J was led by Sawada and consisted of his personal Guardians and Vongola Family elite like Reborn. Team A is the Varia. Team W is the Simon Famiglia led by Kozato Enma. Team S is Don Cavallone's parade of herbivores.
The plan is simple. Enter target territory, eliminate everyone, rush to the aid of other teams still fighting, rinse and repeat. It's a good plan considering the fighting strength of our four teams.
Standing with my team, I was much too eager to storm the base. In Cambio Forma, I sped across the plains towards the villa of the enemy. I spread my wings and I watched as my armored plumage went tearing through the windows. The incumbents screamed and ran out like a bunch of losers as we expected and our team opened fire.
It was going well until I witnessed the most horrifying thing I had ever seen in my life. Levi was going at it with a man double his size and another smaller man came out from behind the crowds and lifted a giant magenta bazooka and shot him. The bazooka made Levi disappear without a trace.
Our group was immediately on edge, backing away. All eyes were on the weapon trained on our allies. The only logical course of action was to defeat the man with the bazooka.
Squalo was squaring off with Don Walker. … Don Walker?! Team W is fighting the Walker Family who happens to be missing their leader and they're not here to help yet?! Useless. He was the only one not paying attention. Given that he was kept busy, I can't blame him.
The enemy turned the bazooka on Squalo and fired. All I could do was curl my wings around me and take the shot. I stood stunned as my wings vanished-no, it was not just my wings. I could no longer feel Aquilos' presence. He was gone.
It was actually over before I even knew what happened. The second smoking shot went straight through my gut. I stared down blankly, hands shaking as my body began to vanish from where I had been shot. I turned, eyes shaking as I spotted Xanxus' outstretched hand. His expression had remained unchanged but those crimson eyes were shaking in fear.
"Oh." I reached for his hand clueless for a moment but then it hit me.
Ah. This is goodbye.
"No." He said it as if he could hear the voice inside my head but at the same time, it sounded as if he was begging me not to go. His fingers curled around mine.
I reciprocated the gesture with my own fingers, clawing at one of the sky rings on his hand as if it could keep me from vanishing.
His eyes widened, palm moving to press it further into my hand as if he was saying 'you can keep it if you stay.' But my fingers were already disappearing along with his ring. In the blink of an eye, he was gone.
My vision was dark for only a moment. When I blinked my eyes, I was standing in a dark hallway. It felt so… familiar. Behind me, towards the end of the hall, was a set of double doors. My eyes widened. I knew this place.
My feet carried me to the end of the hall, pushing the doors open to reveal Xanxus encased in ice. This was our past. Four or five years ago, this is where Xanxus had been. Someone was coming. Instinctively, I hid in the shadows.
There hadn't been any guards at the door. They were probably in the middle of changing shifts. I was right. Two guards came to the door, chattering mindlessly.
I knew what was coming next. I heard no sounds save for the falling of two bodies to the floor. From my place hidden in the corner behind a pillar, I saw myself enter the room.
My unaged self came up to the ice, pressing her hand against it. Her too-violet eyes were shining with adoration. I hadn't realized I had been making such an expression but I suppose, I had been somewhat in love with Xanxus since then.
She took one swing at the ice, cursing when her fist exploded in pain from the useless blow. I knew what had to come next. I grasped at one of my purple stone rings and the ring I had taken from the boss. I threw them both to the floor behind her.
"Free him. If you can light those rings, he will return to you."
"How do I light it?" She demanded as I knew she would.
"If you have the resolve to free him, you will light it." I repeated the words I had heard on the same day I came to rescue the boss.
Now, I understand. This was a good thing. This was something that was meant to happen.
I watched myself struggle and then light up the smallest of flames, pleading for the boss to do the same. I laughed quietly, "Hurry and leave. You'll be caught if you stay too long."
It looked like it was time for me to go too. I was starting to disappear again. Presumably, I was returning to my own time.
My vision was dark again for just a moment but when I blinked I could see it. The battlefield was on fire. No joke. It was totally ablaze and I flinched back from the rising heat and I could hear the enraged scream of my boss as he burnt the whole area to ashes.
I stared in wonder as he threw down Don Walker with his burning hands and tore him limb from melting limb. It was the most savage thing I had ever seen and I bit people to death so that was saying something.
Poor Squalo was roaring at him to stop but Xanxus didn't even pretend he was listening. He wasn't done destroying the corpse.
I turned, making awkward eye contact with Leviathan who was also back from whatever time he had gone to, "Umm… Can I assume he's doing that for me?"
"Feh." Levi scoffed at me, "Who else would he be pissed about losing?"
There was a warm feeling blooming in my chest just from the thought. I always knew he was an angry kind of person but I never really thought any of our deaths would bother him. I remembered the way he laughed at Squalo's supposed death as if it was nothing but then again, I think the boss has always had faith in Squalo's will to live.
Then should I be offended? Does he not have faith in my will to live? Even as I tried to get angry, I couldn't. This was a naturally happy moment because the anger was meant for me. Only problem, I'm not actually dead.
"Oh this is going to be so awkward." I laughed nervously, waving at Squalo who finally spotted me and realized I had returned as well, "Hey there…"
At the sound of my voice, the boss threw down the body and turned with crazed eyes. He looked like a beast. A very attractive wild beast but a beast nonetheless.
I expected to see some relief on his face but he was still smoking pissed. I grimaced at the blood splattered all over his face and shirt, gesturing to his still burning hand, "Uhh… You wouldn't happen to be thinking about melting me too… Would you?"
His eyebrow twitched, flames rising instead of settling as he stormed away from the burning corpse behind him and towards me.
I grabbed Levi, jerking the Lightning-flamed mafiosos between us, "Let's talk about this, boss! With words!"
Xanxus, as expected when angry, flung Levi aside as if he was no more than a child. I squeezed my eyes shut as the burning hand came up towards my face, waiting for punishment but the hand that touched me was no longer ablaze. I blinked at him, stunned by the warmth cupping my face as if it was made of delicate glass.
"Umm…" Staring up into those crimson eyes I loved so much, I couldn't find the right words to say to placate the suffering behind them, "I… I'm sorry."
"You should be." He said gruffly, leaning down to press his lips to the top of my head in that teasing manner but this time it was more meaningful. He took a deep breath, silent for a moment. He was confirming my existence through my scent, "I don't care what you say tonight, you're sleeping in chains."
I sighed unhappily but if that's all it takes, I'm okay with it, "Sure, boss."
Let me tell you. I did absolutely no sleeping in chains that night. Don't get me wrong, he used chains. I just didn't sleep in them. Morning came by the time he freed me, forcing me to wrap my arms around him before letting me finally rest. I regret nothing.
O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O~O
"Aghhhh." I groaned. Leaning back, I bumped into Yamamoto's shoulder and decided to just leave myself leaning against him, "Why am I the one getting written up? I didn't do anything!"
"Heheheh, sorry. I was the one who defied orders." The baseball player was wrapped in bandages from the neck down but his smile never faded. A white ball was moving back and forth between his hands, "Apparently, you taught me so you get punished with me."
In our positions, if I tilted my head back, I could see his face. He was sitting properly on the couch, leaned back into the back of the sofa. I was sitting sideways, heels on the arm of the couch and back against his side.
Sighing loudly, I let him pull up my hand and position it with the palm facing him, "If it falls on my face, you die. But… What orders did you defy?"
"I didn't kill anyone." He flinging the ball lightly into my palm.
I fumbled with it, dropping it on my stomach and choking in embarrassment. I turned pink when he laughed at me, "You didn't kill anyone? How did you manage a feat like that?"
"Ummm… I'm an herbivore?" He guessed, trying to placate the emotion he mistook as sarcastic anger, "Sorry?"
I wasn't angry. I was genuinely surprised. Killing people is easier than defeating them. If you kill them, you don't have to worry about unnecessary things. You don't have to hold back and you don't have to be concerned about taking responsibility for letting someone escape.
"You're no herbivore." I murmured, tilting my head back to look up at his dark colored eyes, "They say the strong make the rules and if you came off the battlefield as the winner and you decided you would permit your opponents to live, then you're in the right. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise."
Lighting up brighter than a star, he grinned at me, "Kira-senpai is always so nice to me."
"I'm just simple." I crossed my arms, handing him the ball back, "But… Also don't say I didn't warn you. In our world, more often than not, the people you showed mercy to will come back to bite you in the ass. Just remain the strongest and you can continue to beat them down over and over without killing them."
Giggling like a high school brat, he turned, spreading his arms and pressing back further into the couch so I would fall back into his lap. The minute my head was resting on his legs, he said, "This doesn't really feel like punishment. Being with Kira-senpai is as great as being with Tsuna and the rest of the guys."
"I like you about as much as I like Kyoya." I confessed, smiling back when he was the one blushing like a little girl instead of me, "But we're not supposed to be having a nice conversation. We're supposed to be repenting our actions."
The door swung open and neither of us even bothered to acknowledge Reborn, Sawada, Xanxus and Squalo as they entered.
Squalo made a sick gagging noise and shook his head when we finally looked up, both of us looking innocent and curious as two mafiosos could look after a big raid.
"And the verdict?" I grumbled, making Yamamoto laugh about how blunt I was being, "Are we getting Varia punishment or herbivore punishment?"
Sawada smiled, waving his hands about Xanxus' fuming form as if it would calm him, "Please. We already decided. You can't change your mind."
"Hey." Xanxus leaned back, gesturing to Squalo who leaned in to listen intently, "Remind me why they're getting punished together when they have two different crimes."
"Cause Kira caused both of them?" Squalo grimaced, anxious about the boss' reaction despite the lack of anger in his tone.
"Yamamoto was the one who didn't kill anyone." I huffed.
"But Kira-senpai just said as long as I win, I make the rules." He said like the adorable loser he is.
I grumbled, rolling my eyes in displeasure, "So what is this punishment?"
"These two…" Reborn snarled hard enough to make Sawada grimace and back away, "It seems our decided punishment was too light."
"What a coincidence." Xanxus was the first to pull his gun, smirking when the color drained from our faces, "I was just thinking the same thing."
Reborn hummed, reaching for his gun casually, "Tsuna, we changed our mind on the punishment."
Sawada smiled and laughed nervously, sighing moments later, "I suppose it's their lives or mine so… Sorry, Kira-san. Sorry, Yamamoto. It was nice knowing you."
They came forward together with their guns raised, Reborn in genuine irritation at an unrepentant Yamamoto and my boss in jealousy at the sight displayed in front of him.
I gulped, swallowing down a nervous lump as Yamamoto tensed beneath me. Our eyes met for the briefest of moments and, with our strong instincts foreshadowing our deaths, we ran for it. Bullets went off. The sofa was easily turned into swiss cheese as we fled from the room in a dead sprint.
I've never been on this side of punishment but when I look at Yamamoto laughing as he runs for his life right next to me, I think it's not so bad. This is kind of fun.
