Part 4: Physics and Philosophy
What do you mean?" the President asked.
"The Ghost Zone is the interstices between the infinite probabilities of worlds." Danny explained.
"What does that mean?"
Danny sighed, "I don't understand the physics, but the theory of Quantum Mechanics says that every time there are two different ways that something could go, sometimes new worlds are created, each where one of the two possibilities is a true.* The Ghost Zone is the space between all these different universes."
"So there are countless worlds out there?"
.
.
"It's what the ghosts call it: the Infinite Realms. Our world is just one of them."
"So you mean there are all those world out there that are just like ours except I turned right instead of left?"
"I guess," Danny shrugged, "but for unknown reasons most aren't accessible and most are a whole lot stranger."
"So there would be a world where there's lots of resources or oil?"
"If you can find it," Danny shrugged, "things seem to be pretty randomly scattered around. The Ghost Zone is big enough to fill the space between universes. Humans can't survive in most of these places. And it's not like its empty; There's life on some of them."
.
.
"Are we in danger from them?"
"No, the people of these other worlds can't attack us for the same reasons we can't attack them. Natural portals are sporadic, uncontrollable and only exist briefly."
"But your parents created a stable portal," the President pointed out.
"Artificial portals are more stable but there is no way to control where they open up. Besides, portals lead to the Ghost Zone, not to these other worlds. I guess you could theoretically find it but the odds of winning the lottery are astronomically better than finding a specific world."
"But we have had ghost attacks."
.
.
"Yes, but they are not attacks from these other worlds. You see ghosts aren't from these other possible worlds," Danny corrected.
"Where do they come from?" the man asked.
"Ghosts come from the Ghost Zone; the spaces between the worlds. Most flesh-and-blood species can't survive long in the Ghost Zone and most ghosts can't stay long in the real worlds."
"How do they live there?"
"Somehow ghosts are able to create pocket universes called lairs to live in. Or maybe the Ghost Zone creates these lairs for them. Reality kinda takes a back seat in the Ghost Zone," Danny explained.
.
.
"Wherever they come from, they still represent a clear and present danger," the President asserted.
Danny ran his fingers through his untidy hair in an effort to keep his frustration in check. This was too important.
"I keep telling everyone; not all ghosts are evil. Just as most humans aren't evil. Most ghosts don't even have the power to manifest themselves in the Infinite Realms and even more simply don't care they just want to be left alone."
"Whether that true or not, ghosts are still a potential threat," the President insisted.
"They are also a potential opportunity," Danny protested.
