Imagine having to help Elijah on a mission, and he thinks you hate him, even though you just secretly like him

"Are you almost ready?" Elijah asked, from your doorway as you messed with your hair.

"Yes, god, Elijah. Stop bugging me, I'm coming," you said, shooing him away and shutting your door. The original sighed before walking away and waiting for you in his car. You continued fixing your appearance and getting ready for your mission.

Klaus was sending the two of you to go find some rare herbs for Freya in the woods. You knew it might get messy so you wore some old clothing and a pair of boots. Your vampire hearing allowed you to hear the original's car start, and wait for you.

Your relationship with Elijah was complicated. Some days you were like an angel to him, and treated him amazing. But other days you treated him like he was nothing and like you hated him. This confused him, and made him wonder what your true feelings were. He happened to have quite a big crush on you. For the past five years, since Klaus turned you, you've stayed with the Mikaelsons.

And over those years, you fell for Elijah Mikaelson, and it scared you, a lot. Previously, you had fallen for guys, but never this hard. The thought of loving someone as much as you loved Elijah terrified you. So, that's why you treated him like nothing, to get him to hate you, but it didn't seem to work. But that didn't mean you were going to stop anytime soon. You grabbed your phone, and bag before leaving your room. You walked out to Elijah's car and got in the passenger seat.

"Are you ready?" Elijah questioned, as you buckled in.

"Nooo," you said, sarcastically, causing Elijah to sigh.

"A simple 'yes', would have sufficed," Elijah replied, pulling out the of the driveway.

"How long is the drive?" You questioned.

"Four hours," Elijah says.

"Four hours!?" You exclaimed, your eyes widening, "I'm going to kill your brother when I see him." Elijah chuckled at your words.

"Good luck with that," he replied.

"Can we stop for food halfway through?" You questioned.

"Did you not eat before we left?" Elijah asked.

"What are you, my dad?" You asked, before saying, "And I did, I ate a pop tart. But it's going to be around one in two hours, and I don't know if you know this, but that's lunch time."

"Okay, sure," Elijah agreed, before turning on the radio. He was playing some calm and relaxing music.

"Are you trying to put me to sleep?" You questioned.

"Possibly," Elijah said, "I wouldn't have to stop for food if I put you to sleep." You rolled your eyes at his response.

"Nice try," you said, and changed the station to somebody louder and less calm. Elijah groaned at this but stayed quiet since he knew you liked it. After about fifteen minutes you were beginning to grow bored of staring out the window and you pulled out your phone. You began playing a game, waiting for something interesting to happen.

"Damn it," you mumbled, when you died in the game.

"I'm sorry?" Elijah asked, never hearing you use that kind of language around him.

"Huh?" You asked, "I was talking about my game."

"No, I know. I've just never heard you swear," Elijah explained.

"Oh," you replied, before reciting every swear word you know, causing Elijah to raise an eyebrow.

"And here I thought you were innocent," Elijah said.

"Yeah, well, you learn something new every day," you said, as you continued to play the game with a brand new life. The game was passing time quickly and it was keeping the car ride from becoming awkward for both you and Elijah. Finally, two hours had passed and you and Elijah were stopping for food. You decided on a bar, somewhere in a small town. The two of you got out and went inside.

There weren't too many people in the bar, but there were some. You and Elijah sat the bar, and ordered your food. Elijah wasn't that hungry so he just got some fries, but you got a hamburger and fries. Soon you got your food and began eating.

"Is the food alright, Y/n?" Elijah asked, making sure the food was good enough for your taste.

"Delicious," you replied, licking your lips. Elijah smiled at this.

"I'm glad," he replied, eating some of his own food.

"Can I get you and your girlfriend anything else?" The bartender asked, checking in on the two of you.

"I'm not his girlfriend," you harshly said, fake glaring at the bartender. You wished what they said was true, but it wasn't.

"Oh, sorry, friend," they corrected themselves.

"I'm not his friend either," you said, crossing your arms.

"Y/n, cut it out," Elijah said, before turning to the bartender, "No, we don't need anything else. How much is it?"

"Fourteen dollars and fifteen cents," the bartender replied and Elijah pulled out a twenty and handed it to them.

"Keep the change," Elijah said, causing the bartender to thank him, before getting back to their job, "Finish your food, we need to hurry up."

"I'm eating as fast as I can," you replied, taking a bite of your burger. Elijah slipped his wallet back into his suit pocket and waited for you to finish eating. But to him, it seemed like you were purposely taking longer.

"Are you seriously taking longer on purpose?" Elijah asked.

"Nope, don't know what you're talking about," you replied, and Elijah sighed.

"Why must you make things so difficult for me, all the time," Elijah said. Over the past few weeks, Elijah was quickly growing tired of the way you treated him. And at the beginning he refrained from confronting you, but he was growing sick of it.

"Fine," you said, shoving your half eaten burger and fries away, before getting up.

"Y/n, I didn't-" Elijah tried, but you had already walked out the door and to the car. Elijah sighed, and followed you out. After he said that, you didn't feel like eating anymore. You knew the way you treated him was wrong, but you didn't want him to find out the truth. You didn't think he returned the feelings, and the thought of him finding out and not feeling the same way scared you.

You got into the car and took a deep breath. You heard the bell on the bar door ring and watched as Elijah walked out and made his way to the car. He got in and started the car, before driving. An awkward silence filled the car as you drove. You took a deep breath, before speaking.

"I'm sorry," you whispered, but Elijah didn't quite catch it, since he wasn't focusing on it.

"What was that?" He asked.

"I'm sorry, Elijah," you said, speaking up and looking up at him. He glanced at you for a minute, but kept his eyes on the road. He pulled off to the side so he could speak with you and look you in the eye when he did it.

"Apology accepted, but I do have one question," Elijah said, and you looked up at him.

"What is it?" You asked.

"Why do you," he paused, looking down and thinking of his word choice, but eventually he settled for the simple option and continued, "hate me?"

"I don't hate you," you replied, not meeting his eyes, you stared out of the windshield.

"Then why do you dislike me?" Elijah said, thinking maybe you didn't like his word choice.

"I don't dislike you either," you replied, still not looking at him.

"Then, why?" He asked, not specifying but you knew what he meant.

"Do you really want to hear the truth?" You asked, looking at him, and he nodded, "Fine, I like you, Elijah, a lot." He didn't comment, seeming to be in shock, so you went on, "In fact, I think I love you."

"Then why did you treat me like you did?" He asked, obviously confused.

"Because I was scared, terrified even. You see, I've never loved somebody as much as I love you, and it scared me," you explained, "And I know you don't feel the same, but-"

"Who said I didn't feel the same?" Elijah asked, staring into your eyes.

"Do you?" You asked.

"Yes, I do," he said, smiling at you.

"But, how? I was so mean and rude to you," you said, not believing what you were hearing.

"But I saw how you interacted with other people, and that's what made me love you. No matter how horribly you treated me," Elijah explained.

"Do you think-" You paused, nervous and took a deep breath, "Do you wanna be my boyfriend?"

"I would love nothing more," Elijah said, grabbing your hand and placing a kiss on it. The biggest smile spread across your face.

"I wonder what Klaus will think," you commented.

"I don't know, but we have a mission," Elijah said, continuing holding your hand as he got back on the road.

"I love you, Elijah Mikaelson," you said, after a moment.

"I love you as well," Elijah responded, and you had never been happier than you were in that moment.
