Werewolves; because there was such a thing. Sherlock had once been influenced of the existence of a hound too, but that had turned out to be nothing more than mind tricks and drugs. Truly, he was not falling for that sort of nonsense again. He only went along with everyone because that was the best way to find out what this was really about. It was difficult, however, to pick out the lies when people were convinced they were speaking the truth.
John on the other hand seemed a bit less sceptical, but Sherlock could tell he wasn't entirely persuaded either; he was a smart man and had also witnessed the fraudulence of 'the hound.'
John was aware of many things swirling around in Sherlock's brain, he knew this because the taller man was quiet, although, mostly because it was Sherlock. At least he wasn't bored, if John had had to deal with one more complaint of 'I'm bored' this week he might have strangled that scrawny, elegant neck with that blue scarf. He loved Sherlock, really.
They had arrived at the hospital by this time, "Sam and I are going to talk to them, you lot can observe from the doorway," Gabriel explained the plan.
"I think I should go in with you, I am a cop after all," Marcus put forward.
"You'll be back up," Sam told him.
"They are the experts in this, darling," Lucifer reassured Marcus, who conceded but still wasn't happy about the situation.
"Let's go in," Sam said as he strode towards the automatic doors and almost collided with a group of four men.
There were apologies on both sides and Sam allowed them to pass by, but the exchange that happened between Sam, Gabriel and one of the other men arose some questions in John's mind.
John cleared his throat, "Uhm, why did it sound like they thought you two were cops?"
Sam and Gabriel simultaneously pulled out wallets containing an FBI badge and ID, and briefly showed it to their little group, "It helps to get the job done faster," Sam admitted.
"Always works for me," Sherlock pointed out with a shrug, he was ready to move on.
"Impersonating an FBI agent is a serious offence!" Marcus told them in a hushed but stern tone.
Lucifer patted his shoulder and kissed his cheek, "Only if they get caught dear, and they obviously don't have any sinister intentions."
"That's not the point, Lucifer and you know it," Marcus told him with a grimace. They really needed to resolve whatever was going on between them.
"Feel free to wait outside if you're uncomfortable with our methods," Gabriel motioned to the door.
"Hey guys, everything okay? Can I help you with something?" A male nurse had come over to the group, who by this point had been lingering outside the doors long enough to rouse some suspicion. The nurse had short dark hair and sported a goatee, another man, who was dark skinned, wearing a bandana over his scalp and had a hint of make-up on his face, trailed after the nurse.
Gay. Drug user. Cook. Religious? The words appeared in Sherlock's brain as he observed the second man.
Sam and Gabriel flashed their badges again, "We're just on our way to speak with Mr Lupin, we brought some trainees along for the learning experience," Gabriel explained.
The nurse eyed them suspiciously. Intelligent. Confident. Powerful.
"Dan?" Lucifer spoke from behind Sherlock, it was as if he'd just run into someone he knew unexpectedly, though that seemed unlikely considering that this wasn't his universe. He pushed through the group to stand right in front of the nurse, "Dan?" he repeated.
The man who clearly wasn't a nurse stepped up next to the man being mistaken for 'Dan,' "This here be my boo, Jesus," he spoke with a deep Louisiana accent and curled around Jesus as if to prove his words.
Protective. Jealous. Lovers.
"It's alright, Lafayette, I'm sure I just look like someone this gentleman knows," Jesus raised his eyebrows.
"Yes, sorry, you look awfully similar to someone we work with. You don't happen to have a twin brother do you?" Lucifer couldn't stop staring.
"David, wait! I'm sorry," a man came running down the hall, he only wore slippers, black jeans and a pink feather boa around his neck, "I don't need your relationship advice, Ben," he threw back over his shoulder
There was no one else in the hall.
"Excuse me," Jesus said to the group and he took off after the man, Lafayette on his heels, "Klaus, you know not to run in the halls!" he called.
The group stared after the three men for a few moments until Gabriel broke the spell, "Shall we get on with it then?"
The room they wanted was in the opposite direction, to which everyone was relieved about that.
"I can't wait to tell Dan that he is a nurse in another reality," Lucifer scoffed to Marcus.
"Do you think we all have counterparts in each other's universes?" John suggested to Sherlock.
"While it seems possible, it could have merely been a coincidence that the nurse had the same appearance as Lucifer's colleague. Many people have similar features," Sherlock concluded.
"You just want there to only be one of you," John countered.
Sherlock brushed off the comment, even though John was right, "Imagine multiple Mycrofts," he taunted.
John's eyes went wide, "I'd rather not."
Sherlock smirked as they came to a halt in front of room thirty three, the door was closed.
Without warning the door flung open and a man with a wooden cane came limping out in an aggravated manner, "Idiots!" he exclaimed.
Doctor. Genius. Doesn't work at this hospital.
Another man wearing a white coat followed him out of the room, "House, you can't force people to do tests if they don't want to."
Doctor. Lawful. Committed.
"How am I supposed to diagnose patients if they won't do the tests, Wilson?" the man with the cane, House, asked with venom in his voice.
"I'll ask them to reconsider later, let's get some lunch," they rounded a corner a little up the hall and were gone.
The group had watched them until they were gone and then brought their focus back to the room.
A bony, shabby looking man had spotted them from inside the room, he grimaced, "Can't this wait?" he requested.
Ex-criminal. Black dog. Partner of the patient.
"I'm afraid not, we need to speak to Mr Lupin, alone," Sam told him.
He seemed about to protest when a younger man with round glasses appeared from elsewhere in the room and touched his arm, "Sirius, let's get some air and see where Sev got to."
"It's alright, Sirius," said a voice from the bed.
Sirius nodded reluctantly, "We'll be back soon," he warned Sam and let the younger man lead him from the room.
Once the room had been cleared, except for Mr Lupin, Sam and Gabriel entered, they reminded everyone else to wait outside the door. They all wanted to hear though, Sherlock snuck just inside the door where he could get a better view of the patient.
Consistent bodily abuse. Teacher. Drinks a lot of tea. Car accident.
"Hello," greeted the patient, he was sitting up in bed and looked rather worse for wear.
"It's good to see you're awake Mr Lupin, we just need to ask you a few questions," Sam informed him.
"You may call me Remus," he told them, "I assumed that was why you were here, Sirius mentioned I'd had a few visitors."
"What were you doing out in the forest when you ran in front of the car?" Gabriel asked the first question.
"I was out for a run."
"Naked?"
"There isn't usually anyone else around."
"Why were your…family chasing you?"
"They didn't think I was well enough to be out."
"What was causing you to be unwell?"
"I have a rare blood disease, it affects me monthly."
Sam and Gabriel looked at each other, "How long have you had this disease?"
"Most of my life."
"How did you contract it?"
"What has that got to do with my accident?"
"We have to be very thorough."
Remus sighed, "I was bitten by a man, and he also had the disease."
"Who were your other visitors?" Sherlock couldn't help but interject, they were missing other important questions, and they needed to find out if these people came through one of the portals in the forest.
"I'm sorry?"
"You mentioned that you had had other visitors, who were they?" Sherlock moved closer to the bed.
"Oh, you know; doctors and friends."
"Were these friends in the forest with you? Did you see anything or anyone else in the forest?"
"What are you implying?"
"Were there other people with you in the forest?" Sherlock's voice was raised, he was close to cracking this open, he just knew it.
"I guess so, I don't really remember."
"You're not from around here are you?"
"No," Remus rubbed his face with his hands, "I'm quite weak and need to rest, so if there is nothing else…"
"How did you come to be in the forest?"
"You wouldn't believe me if I told you."
"Try us."
Before Remus could say anything else, Sirius, the young man and another man, probably 'Sev', appeared in the doorway, "That's enough for now, Remus needs rest." Sirius told them and practically pushed them out of the room. The door was firmly closed behind them.

Back outside the hospital the group discussed their new information.
"I think that pretty much confirms our theories," Sam told them.
"If his family hadn't of returned when they did, we would have established that they came through one of the portals," Marcus agreed.
"Maybe we should have told them that we came through the portals too, it might have helped to persuade them into telling us the truth," John contributed.
"Excuse me," two men approached the group; it was two of the people they'd almost run into entering the hospital, "we couldn't help but overhear that you were talking about portals…you haven't happened to have been in the forest recently?"
Scientist. Cautious. Running from something.
"Oh, did you two wander out of a portal too?" Lucifer straight up gave them away. Everyone regarded him with a 'wtf?' expression and then looked back at the newcomers.
The two men smiled, "I'm Bruce, and this is Tony. We've been trying to find anyone else who came through."
Sam introduced the group, "Gabe and I are from this universe, however, there is another group with our brothers that also came through the portals. They went to the library to figure out why this is happening here, this town has a strange reputation."
"So you aren't cops or agents or anything?" Tony established.
Narcissist. Privileged. Genius.
Sam and Gabriel seemed a little sheepish, "It's a means to an end."
"Who were you interrogating in the hospital?" Bruce asked.
"Probably the same people you saw earlier, that's why you were here, you've met Lupin and his family," Sherlock accused.
"Yes, we were there when the accident happened, we'd all just come out of the anomaly," Tony informed them.
"Anomaly?" Marcus questioned.
"The portals are called 'anomalies', we also met another pair who deal with them all the time, like experts," Bruce educated them, "they've gone to the library also, for the same reason your other group has. We should all work together to figure out what is going on here and then get everyone home, we aren't sure how long the anomalies will be stable for."
"I think we should regroup back at the hotel and see what the news is from the library and discuss our next move. Agreed?" Sam suggested.
There was a unanimous murmur of agreement.
"Oh, and we'll fill you in about werewolves along the way," Lucifer told Bruce and Tony.
"What?"

Hey guys, just a little author's note about the headcanon I had for True Blood and Umbrella Academy section of this chapter.
Basically, it was my headcanon that Lafayette (a medium) is helping Klaus with his relationship with Dave (a ghost) because he's the only one around that can see Dave too. Hopefully you liked it too...
Anyway, hope you're enjoying the story, much love xox
