Chapter two
percy's training
Percy's POV
My father left to go on a fishing trip twelve years ago, and he didn't come back. It was the day after summer break started, and according to mom a letter from my dad just came saying I had to go to his house to complete some kind of training. So here I am in my mom's car heading north towards a large forest near the ocean. After taking a few turns off of the main roads onto a dirt road we headed down for a few hours until we hit a dead end, and I saw my dad off to one side with three horses one was grayish blue in color, one was white, and one was solid black. Mom and I got out of the car and walked over, and my dad smiled at us before saying "Percy your horse is the solid black one, and Sally yours is the solid white one as usual." I quickly noticed that none of the three horses had a saddle or halter and instantly said "I can't ride a horse," before asking "and how are we supposed to ride them without a saddle or halter?"
My dad smiled and replied "that will be the first thing you're taught, and I will show you how to ride a horse with and without tac."
My dad then taught me how to jump up into the horse's side, place my hands at the right spot and swing my leg over, and after that he taught me how to turn my horse using a few locks of his mane and with my knees as well. As he had already taught my mom, he tells my mom and I to follow him, and with that he leads us through the woods to his house. After about ten minutes at a light canter I managed to get my first glimpse at my dad's house and I'm amazed at what I see. Through the trees I can see one floor made from rough hewn granite bricks and a second floor made from wood both made in a colonial and Victorian style.

Percy's POV
It has so far been three years that I've spent with my father, and now he says that he has already taught me everything he could. During my time with him I've learned how to command any vessel used for traveling across or under water, how to ride a horse perfectly in any situation, how to mount a horse while it's at a full gallop, how to use firearms, especially black powder and spear guns, and how to detect and open every one in the house or, any for that matter, secret door or passageway. Now my dad is sending me to Richmond, Virginia so someone can teach me how to use every other type of weaponry. As I'm walking with my dad to the stables, the black semi-domesticated wolf I was given by one of my dad's old friends, shortly before he died, ran up and pounced on me. Which effectively knocked me over, and while I was on the ground she started giving me a tongue bath. As she was licking me like crazy I managed to sputter out, "down Mrs. O' Leary, down girl, down."
When I finally got Mrs. O' Leary off of me I came up to find my dad mildly chuckling at our encounter. As we resumed our way towards the boathouse, and when we are about 18 yards away my dad suddenly says, "we'll be taking my Norse longboat down to a hidden dock near Old Church where you'll go with one of my old friends to the public library in Sandston where you'll meet the person training you, and I trust that he'll get everything set up for your stay there for the next few years. Oh yeah, and don't forget that the members of our group in the area meet near White Oak Swamp."
"Ok, dad that sounds fairly good, and I won't forget to go there.
And with that my dad, my wolf and I quickly ran the rest of the way to the boathouse, and launched the longship.
