The next afternoon.
"Mommy! You home!" Ella said running to her as she was coming in the door.
"HI my sweet girl! Mommy is home!" Kate smiled hugging her daughter. "I see you Mr. Man." Kate giggled seeing Jaxon peaking around the corner.
"Shhh I hiding." He told her with that cute little smile.
"Shhh." She said putting her finger over her lips. As she still had Ella in her arms.
"I miss you dis much." Ella said holding out her little arms.
"I missed you too sweet heart." Kate said kissing her cheek.
"I miss mommy too." Jax said.
"And I missed you too Mr. Man." Kate said putting Ella down and picking up Jaxon and giving him hugs and kisses.
Seth came in from the living room.
"Welcome home." Seth said leaning in to kiss her but Kate moved so he got her cheek.
"Thank you." She said putting Jaxon down and ran to play. "The kids weren't to wild were they?" She asked taking her stuff up to their room and started unpacking.
"No they were fine. I know they just missed you. I missed you." He said.
"I missed them too." She said as she tossed her dirty clothes in the laundry basket.
"So about that surprise." Seth grinned.
"Oh you were serious." Kate said looking at her husband.
"Yes I was did you think I just made it up?" He asked her.
"I really didn't know. It's hard to tell you seemed really upset with me about being in Jacksonville and even considering the idea of going to AEW."
"Kate you know how I feel about AEW they are the minor league compared to WWE. Jon took his ball and ran home. Cody is using his fathers name to try to make a name for himself. I just don't understand why you would want to leave WWE and work for them?"
"That's part of the problem Seth you don't see how hard this is for me. Going to work and seeing Becky every day. Knowing she's slept with my husband every time she talks to you it takes everything in me not to punch her in the face. That's not who I want to be and not who I am. So I think this would be good for both of us working for different companies." Kate explained.
"But why AEW? Why not work at the hospital. You once told me if you ever didn't want to travel and be home more with the kids who would try to get a job here. So I am trying to understand." Seth said watching Kate as she was unpacking her other travel bag.
"I love sports medicine you know that. I know I said I would work at a local hospital but I love what I do now and don't want to give that up. So I told Tony I would try AEW. If it doesn't work for us or well me then I will see what else is out there. But being honest Seth you did this you made it hard for me to go to work at WWE and do my job." Kate told him.
"I never meant for it to be like this. I meant what I said Kate I want to work on us. On our marriage. I am not giving up on us no matter what you think I am not gonna give up."
"Like I said yesterday Seth it's more than just your words. You need to show me you want to make this work. You've said it before and then I find you talking with and flirting with Becky. I am not gonna be your door mat Seth. Call me a selfish bitch or whatever but I am not gonna let you have your cake and eat it too. I wont be that woman who lets you sleep with Becky then open up my heart and bed to you. I wont do that." She stated.
"I know Kate and I would never ask you to do that. So I am hoping tonight we can start a new. I want to take you on a surprise date just the two of us. I got a sitter for the kids. Please just give me this chance." He asked her.
Kate thought about it a few moments as she looked at her husband standing there in front of her. She did still love him and wanted to see if he actually meant the words he was saying.
"Alright a date night." She said to him. "But don't expect to much."
Seth nodded. "Just a date. Then we'll see where it takes us."
Later that evening.
"Did you close the coffee shop just for us?" Kate asked looking around as they sat down at a table set for two with candles lit.
"I did just an hour early. I wanted this to be special for you." He told her reaching out for her hand.
She hesitated at first but then took it as he held her hand in his.
"It looks so great in here the new color scheme fits perfectly." Kate said making small talk.
"Yeah I wasn't sure at first but it really pops now. More edgy. You hungry?" Seth asked.
"I could eat." She said smiling.
Seth smiled kissing her hand. He then stood up and went back to the kitchen then came out with two plates.
"Your favorite." He told her handing her the plate. "A turkey club with lettuce and tomato pickle on the side."
"Thank you looks so good." Kate smiled as she took a bit.
Over the next half hour they continued to make small talk about the wrestling academy, the coffee shop and the kids. As they started eating their ice cream Seth took her hand once again and looked into her eyes.
"The year was 2014 and this young very beautiful medical assistant came into me life. I was captivated by you the second I saw you. I never truly knew what love or happiness was until I finally got you to go out with me. Which let me assure you was no easy task but it was worth it. Katie you make me want to be a better man. To be the best husband and father I can be because I know with you by my side we can do it all baby. So today I stand before you vowing my love and faithfulness to you. I will love you now until the end of time. I promise to always get you a strawberry banana shake when you ask. Even if we are in the middle of Scotland and there is nothing around for miles." Seth said as he kissed her hand.
Kate bit her bottom lip and look at her husband. All the memories from their wedding day come flooding back to her.
"Those are … those are your wedding vows to me." Kate said.
"Yes they are. I know I haven't been the best husband this last year but I want to try and make this up to you. Please give me … give us our marriage another try. Don't give up on me Katie please." Seth said.
"The day we got married I stood in front of you and I vowed my love and faithfulness to you Seth. I promised to support you in and out of the ring. I've done that we've built this life together with two amazing children. I don't want to give up on us Seth I don't. But you broke my heart and my trust. It's gonna take some time for me to trust you again. To let you back into my heart so I guess if you are truly willing to work on our marriage then I can find away to forgive you. But I am being honest it wont be easy. The one thing I ask is that you be honest with me never lie to me again. Also you have to stay away from Becky I get you work with her but you can't be alone or around her no matter what. If this is going to work you have to cut her out of your life."
"I can do that. Kate she's not the one I want you are. So does this mean you will give me another chance and stay with WWE?" Seth asked taking her hand in his.
"It means I am willing to work on our marriage yes. But I can't stay with WWE. I'm sorry Seth but I have to do this for me. I've already talked to Chris and given Vince my two weeks notice. I hope you can understand why the WWE is not ever gonna work for me?"
"I can try Kate. I wont lie to you I don't understand but I am willing to try for you, for us for our kids." He said leaning in and kissing her lips softly.
Almost Two Weeks Later – Sunday.
Kate stood backstage watching the main event of her last WWE pay per view as a WWE medical employee.
"I still can't believe you are leaving me." Morgan said as they were watching Seth vs Baron Corbin once again for the Universal title.
"I know but it's something I just have to do. I can't be here any more this place is suffocating me and my marriage." Kate told her as her attention was back on the screen. "I must have not been paying attention why is Lacey the special guest referee?"
"Oh yeah because Baron said he couldn't trust the officials not to be in Seth's pocket and they all hate him so stipulation for this match was he got to choose. He picked Lacey." Morgan answered.
As Seth went for the cover but Lacey slowly counted one two then stopped.
Kate laughed. "Yeah I see how this is gonna go. Seth is loses or gets the DQ."
"Probably same ol' formula usually. How are things with you and Seth?"
"Somethings never change. Seth and I are a work in progress. He seems to really want to try. We've been spending time as a family the last couple weeks. Then been trying to just talk to each other every nigh just the two of us." Kate said as she continued to watch the match.
Seth gave it all he got and waited for the count out but then the match changed into a no count out. Seth looked frustrated but continued to go after Baron. He then went for another over but Lacey once again got to two and acted like she had a cramp in her arm. Baron rolled out of the ring. Seth gave chase as Baron started attacking him with a steel chair shot after steel chair shot. Lacey then made the match a no DQ.
"Cause that's fair." Kate said as she continued to watch knowing Seth was gonna need a massage on his already swore back.
Seth got the upper and to deliver a falcon arrow to Baron on top of the steel chair. Then went for the cover which was clearly over a three count but Lacey didn't even start counting at all. You could see the frustration on Seth's face. He got up and was now in Lacey's face staring her down as she slapped him across the face.
"Is that all you got?" Seth growled at her as she slapped him again.
"What the hell? Let me go out their and slap that bitches face." Kate said getting more frustrated watching these events unfold.
As Seth turned there was Baron Corbin as he tossed a punch his way Lacey gave a low blow to Seth as he buckled Baron was right their to give him an end of days.
"What is happening right now?" Kate asked shaking her head at the screen as she noticed Becky running to the ring. "Oh fuck no!" Kate growled watching on as Becky went after Lacey.
Becky took out Lacey as the officials came and broke in up. John Cone another WWE senior official got into the ring and was not taking over the match. Baron went to attack Seth but he countered and gave a stomp to Baron and went for the cover and the three count.
"Here is your winner and still your Universal Champion Sethhh Rooolllinnssss." Mike Rome announced. As Becky looked down at Lacey before getting into the ring with Seth.
Becky watched as Lacey and Baron slowly walked backstage. As she helped Seth to his feet and raised his hand in victory as he held the Universal title in his other hand. He was smiling ear to ear as he pulled her into a hug. As he smiled raising the title again Becky smacked him on the butt making him chuckle as she grinned and gave a little shrug. As she held the rings ropes for him as they sat down on the ring apron together Seth putting his arm around her.
Kate was furious. She didn't care if this was part of a story line for entertainment purposes or not. This was a slap in the face not only to her leaving this petty company but to her marriage.
When Seth got back stage he thanked Becky and talked with her a few moments along with Vince. Before he looked around and realized he didn't see Kate any where.
"Hey Katie you in here?" Seth asked coming into the trainers room after he showered. She didn't say anything as she was already changed out of her WWE medical shirt and was putting a few of her personal things her in bag.
"Katie what's wrong?" Seth asked.
"The fact that you even have to ask me that says it all Seth. I asked you one thing ONE. Stay the hell away from Becky. But you can't even do that. You are now in a story line with her where they call her your girlfriend. That's a slap in the face to me and our family. Also to everything you say you want to work on and fix. I am so happy to be done with this petty company." Kate said grabbing her bag.
"Katie please you know I didn't have a choice. It's just a story line. Vince came to us with this idea this afternoon and what could I have said? This is my job it doesn't mean what I said to you the other night wasn't true you know I love you." Seth said reaching for her hand.
"It's more than just a story line Seth. You could have said no. You could have told Vince that this wasn't a good idea with you and Becky and to come up with something else. You could have walked away there is always something you could do Seth. But you choose this company over me and your family. I am just glad I wont be here to have it shoved in my face." Kate said heading for the door.
"So that's it Kate? You are just walking out on me and the WWE?" Seth asked her.
"I am not walking out on you Seth. I have never walked out on you but I am walking out on the WWE and I am never looking back."
"Run to AEW Kate! The grass isn't always greener on the other side."
"That maybe true Seth. But one thing I do know is that I wont be made a fool of and that is exactly what is happening by you going on long with this story line. So I am going home to spend time with our two great kids before I have to start my new job. I love you Seth but I can't even look at you right now." Kate said as she left the trainers room and headed for the door.
"How do I fix this?" Seth said to himself watching his wife get into the waiting cab and drive away.
"Just give me a reason, just a little bit's enough. Just a second we're not broken just bent and we can learn to love again."
