Chapter Fourteen: Goodbyes
Alimia Goulding watched from the rafters of the pub as pirates sent from the Pirate King slowly seeped in from the outside. They tried, and failed to descreetly locate her.
She watched with an amused grin on her lips as finally they cracked and started looking under tables, chairs and the occasional human for her. She grinned. If she'd had known the stir she would cause coming back, she would've returned years ago.
She gracefully leaped across the beams to an open window. She let her long black cloak rustle lightly in the wind. She turned, one pirate was pointing up at her. She saluted and leaped out. Landing on a little tent over the doorway. She slid down and out into the street without a single pirate noticing.
"I love this job." She grinned and rushed deeper into Tortuga.
Page stared at the floor. This was a lot to take in. His father was Davy Jones replacement. His heart was in a box somewhere, and he crewed a ship filled with souls willing to prolong their death.
Wow. Not the ideal parent situation.
And then to make things worse, his mother was the supposed Pirate King and hadn't been heard from for years. Or, at least his father hadn't. They had no idea if she was even alive... Page shook his head.
"My life just got much more complicated." William laughed a small harsh laugh.
"I felt the same way when me and Eli-." He stopped himself. "When your mother and I got wrapped up into all this." He laid back on the bed. "It was just fate I guess."
Page looked down at his father. His first family member. Somewhere out there his mother might be alive too. He looked back to the floor. Determination forming in his mind.
"I'm going to find her." William sat up, a small smile on his lips.
"Ok." Page raised an eyebrow. Was he supposed to be let off that easily? He didn't think parents usually let their children out on dangerous missions. But once again Page was reminded of how unusual his parenting situation was. William put a hand on Pages shoulder. "But if she's... If she's dead... just... be safe, ok?" Page looked up into William's eyes. He leaned into hug his dad and the man hugged tightly back.
Pearl opened the door to the captain's quarters to find Page and the Captain hugging. She gave Page a pointed look. He pulled away quickly.
"Umm, long story. He's my Dad." Pearl hesitated. She looked closely at the two. Now that she knew, she could see it.
"That's awesome Page!" She grinned. She came and sat down cross-legged on the floor in front of Page. "I'm going to have to go Page.." His lips dropped into a frown.
"Why?" She smiled sadly and placed a hand on his good knee.
"I need to know what happened to me mom." Page nodded seriously. Pearl stood. Page, with the help of a chair stood too. He gave her a tight embrace, and she felt tears rise to the surface. "Goodbye Page." He smiled sadly and let go.
Then he seemed to have an idea. He gripped her hand.
"In one year, on this day meet me at the island you met me on." She smiled. The small hope that she would see her friend again somehow kindled a little spark of hope.
"Ok." She punched his shoulder. "See you in a year Pageboy." He grinned. She turned and walked out of the cabin. The crew had already gotten a boat ready for her. She hopped in and was lowered into the waves. She was going to find her mother.
