Let me just say, I hate this chapter for some reason.
Lucy reeled back in shock, breathe caught in her throat, brown eyes as wide as could be. "You miss me?" she whispered in question. She would be lying if she said a part of her wasn't jumping for joy at the confession but another part, a darker more pessimistic side of herself, told her it was a trick. He just wanted her back in his bed. He was just playing her to get his way.
Like in cartoons both parts bantered like an angel and a devil, fighting for dominance. She had this large part of herself tell her to accept him. To just give in a take the man she wanted for her own. It told her that if a part of him missed her, if he were feeling things for her, he could love her back just as she did him.
But the other whispered darkly to her, and although small, it's words were powerful and convincing. He only wanted her back because she was with Galen now. He wanted his toy to himself. He didn't really want her, it was just jealousy over another man playing with his discarded toy. It whispered how he had brought up the warning to his deal, not falling in love with him. It told her that he had mentioned that little tidbit for a reason. He wanted her back but he wanted things how they use to be, it said to her.
"Yes." His voice cut through her internal debate, admitting to what he had just said, even if he was mentally kicking himself for losing his hold on the dragon.
I miss you too, she thought softly, unable to vocalize her feelings. I miss you so, so, so much, but she couldn't tell him that. He had hurt her so badly before, and even having passed a year, she still felt the pain of his rejection. She couldn't risk it, not with him, not when she couldn't guarantee her heart would remain safe in his hold.
Word Count: 336 (ughhh! I went over again and I was trying not too this time. And is it me, or is this the LONGEST bathroom scene EVER?)
