Part 11

Bella inhaled softly as Alice shifted on top of her once more. The girl was trying her patience with all her twisting and huffing and cuddling. Not that Bella would admit it to anyone, but her body was not reacting well to being told to stay still.

Lucky for the human the room had lightened considerably which meant night had ended and the new day would rouse the girl from her sleep.

And Bella's arousal would just have to deal with being tortured.

She inhaled again as Alice sighed into her neck. It was taking a considerable amount of Bella's control of her instincts not to simple take the girl and mate with her. Alice was her mate and it was hard for Bella to leave the girl unmarked. It may only have been less than a day of actual contact with the girl but that was more than enough time to want to bed the girl.

Bella sighed as she heard movement grow increasingly less hesitant around the house. Alice would need to be woken soon if she was to attend her second day of school. She stared down at the dark head of hair laying on her chest then let her hand gently thread through the soft strands. Alice shifted into Bella at the touch and let out a heavy sigh before tightening her hold on the vampire she was using as a pillow.

It made Bella purr to have her human react to her so easily. Delicately Bella let her hand begin to wander along the exposed skin of the arm wrapped over her waist. She didn't understand sleep but having this time with her mate pressed into her body in such an intimate way was worth savouring.

Her purring grew louder as she let her other hand rest at the small of the humans back, her hand touching a bare patch of hot skin that sent her desire for the girl soaring uncontrollably.

Alice hummed and shifted in her sleep again, her leg tucking up between Bella's as her hips rolled against the vampire unconsciously.

Bella's purring cut off abruptly at the motion and her eyes darkened. Slowly she tugged the cover lower to reveal more of Alice's body to her gaze. She could see where Alice's top had ridden up to show off the lower half of her back. Bella stared at the dip there and her fingers danced over the warm skin and teased under the material to trace the contour of Alice's spine.

Alice's body shivered at the touch and Bella's purr resumed a touch deeper than before as she took in the way Alice's skin reacted to her touch. The human moaned as Bella trailed her fingers back down and fingered the waist band of the pyjama bottoms the girl wore.

Bella felt another puff of warmed air at her neck and it felt like fire. She knew she was cold to a human's touch but with her mate in her arms she felt like the blood in her veins was at boiling point.

She tightened her grip on Alice's back and rolled onto her side. Alice responded to the change in position by curling her leg over Bella's hip and fisted the back of the t-shirt Bella was wearing.

Bella gasped and screwed her eyes shut as the heat of Alice's sex penetrated through the thin layers of clothe that separated her from her mate. She growled lowly in the back of her throat as she opened her eyes and took in her still sleeping human. Her eyes fixated on the junction of her neck where Bella could see blood pumping rhythmically close to the surface.

Her fangs extended and her mouth watered at the thought of tasting what belonged to her. Her hand was on the girl's thigh and slowly she moved it over the curve of Alice's hip to cup her bottom. When Bella squeezed the flesh there Alice responded with another roll of her hips as she let out another moan.

Bella was mesmerised at how easily the girl reacted to her subtle touches. It was taking all she had not to strip the girl naked and show her the benefits of having an older, more experienced lover as a mate for eternity.

Subconsciously Bella pulled at Alice, melting their bodies together as she encouraged every movement from Alice's hips. Bella nuzzled at Alice's head then shifted the girl higher to drop kisses over the pale face.

Alice's face twitched and she let out a groan as she blinked sleepily, her hands drifting over Bella's back as she twisted and stretched. "Morning." She grinned lazily at the vampire pressing cool lips against her neck. It made her giggle.

Growling at the amusement her touches were eliciting in her mate Bella nipped at the tender skin of Alice's throat in warning but the girl just flinched and laughed in reply. Bella halted her movements and huffed hard against Alice's neck as she tried to rein back her need to mate with the human.

The girl clearly wasn't aware that Bella was making advances on her and while she might have continued under more favourable circumstances the delay Alice's giggling had caused Bella reminded her that they were in fact in a house full of vampires and that taking Alice right now was unlikely to be an act that was welcome.

An audience was not something Bella wanted for her first time with her mate so with another nip at Alice's neck she eased back to look the girl in the eye. "So it would seem." She replied to the greeting that had been directed at her.

Alice grinned at Bella, finding her disordered hair quite appealing in a strange way. "Hi." Bella was only the third vampire she had ever spent the night with. In those early days with Jasper he had taken to holding her when she suffered from nightmares and more recently Rosalie would lay with her while she slept. But neither of them had ever held her the way Bella was holding her now.

"You have your hand on my butt." She whispered.

Bella grinned and her eyes danced as she saw no fear in the eyes in front of her. She squeezed the hand in question causing Alice to yelp and slap at her. And now Bella could laugh as the human attempted to retaliate against her.

"Careful." She warned before gathering Alice closer. While it was amusing she had no wish for the girl to come to harm.

Alice wriggled a little trying to break free but Bella just cradled her tighter into her body and when Alice looked up she was caught in the dark red eyes watching her. Her breathing hitched and she felt her body relax as her eyes drifted to the lips smirking at her. She wanted to protest at her capture but her body wouldn't respond properly, instead she found herself leaning forward and was surprised to find herself sharing a soft kiss with Bella.

The vampire moaned causing Alice to shift away uncertainly but Bella didn't look upset. Alice chewed at her bottom lip before she became conscious of the hand stroking her bottom.

Oh.

She swallowed nervously wondering why she hadn't seen a vision of this moment before. Surely that would have been helpful. She looked back at Bella and found the vampire watching her carefully with the hint of a smile on her face, and then she heard the gentle purring.

It eased Alice's worries and she grinned back at Bella before they were both startled by a slam to the bedroom door.

"Breakfast is ready!" Rosalie growled through the door before stomping away.

Bella chuckled as Alice ducked her head into her neck to hide her embarrassment. Little did the human know that to Bella the heavy breathing at her neck was only turning her on. Bella started to purr again and when the girl eased out of her hiding place Bella drew her into a kiss. Her hand at Alice's cheek as she guided her in a dance older than even Bella herself.

"Alice!"

That was Edward this time, and as they pull away from each other once again Bella's growl grew threatening as she eyed the closed door dangerously.

Alice sighed before wriggling free and getting out of her bed once Bella released her.

Pouting Bella laid back and eyed the girl, no longer interested in the vampire in the lower part of the house now that Alice was no longer in her arms.

"I need to get changed, and so do you." Alice informed Bella as she blushed and tried to ignore the figure in her bed as she went to her closet and pulled out her clothes for the day. "Maybe Rosalie can give you something." She continued to mumble, her eyes flicking quickly over to Bella before skirting away again just as hastily.

"I'm going to, um, shower." She added as she opened the door to her en suite and slipped inside. Closing and locking the door quickly behind herself.

Bella's eyes narrowed as she heard the spray of the shower turn on. Her mate was in that room naked. She felt an answering rumble in her chest as her thoughts turned to images of the girl naked and wet. It would be easy enough to gain entry into the room.

Just as Bella was about to put her thoughts into actions she heard an argument start up down stairs between Edward and Jasper and it cooled her wish to mate with Alice for the time being.

An audience was unwelcome on most occasions but this particular audience member she would rather see without a head before she risked him causing her mate further embarrassment or shame.

Grumbling to herself Bella stood and did her best to reorder her hair. She paused beside some of Alice's belongings and used a brush she found to straighten out her hair before retreating from the room to allow the human to dress in relative privacy.

Barefoot still, Bella slowly descended the staircase in no rush to deal with the Cullen boy. However she did want the matter of his punishment to be dealt with before her mate arrived for her morning meal.

She found the Cullen's and Jane in the kitchen area where Esme seemed to be cooking something for Alice. Everyone except Jane had new attire and looked well rested despite the inability to sleep.

"Good morning." Jasper said politely as he sat with a skittish looking Bree. Emmett and Rosalie were seated across from the pair with Carlisle at the head of the table. Esme was at the stove and Edward was by the far wall with his arms crossed as he scowled at her.

She dismissed the boy and sat beside Jane, leaving the other table end free and the two seats across from her. She would have preferred to sit with her mate but the temptation to hold the girl was still too present to allow in this surrounding so she took the safer option of the seat next to Jane.

She could deal with her friend's comments much more than she would be able to tolerate the rest of this coven. She nodded to Jasper to acknowledge his greeting then eyed the rest of the members of the coven sat around her.

Carlisle cleared his throat. "I take it Alice slept well?"

Jane and Edward both snorted at the same time causing them to glare at each other.

Bella watched on amused by the pair as she wondered how they would enjoy spending more time together. "She did."

Emmett chuckled and whispered, "Bet she did." Only to have Rosalie flick her hand to his arm and huff at him. "What?"

Rosalie rolled her eyes at her husband as she heard Jasper cover his own laugh with a cough. They could act so juvenile at times it was hard to believe most of them were over a hundred years old. She ignored them and the feeling of Edward watching them as she glanced over to Jane and Bella. Like everyone else in the room she was more than curious enough about what the Volturi vampires had in mind for her coven that she couldn't hold back her questions.

"So what is the plan, for Alice as well as Edward?" She asked even though Carlisle should have been asking these questions as the head of the coven.

Bella shared a look with Jane who grinned wickedly at her before eyeing Edward eagerly. Bella turned her attention back to the blonde Cullen. She knew Rosalie cared for her mate but it really wasn't the vampires place to question her.

Even if she was looking forward to giving the answers. "You leave it to your daughter to ask after the fate of your son, have you so little pride Carlisle?" She asked slowly.

Edward growled and stepped closer to the table.

Carlisle sighed and studied the dark haired vampire. "And would anything I have to say change your judgement on the matter?"

Bella grinned now. "No it would not." She replied.

"Then what good would it do to say anything and risk further aggravating the situation."

Bella narrowed her eyes at Carlisle. "It is a shame it has taken the spilling of shifter blood for you to have reached such a conclusion Carlisle. Had I know that was all it took I would have brought you a pelt sooner."

Jane chuckled at the horrified looks that passed around the table at that.

Bella smiled again. "But yes, in this matter your son's fate has already been sealed." She added.

Esme frowned and came to stand with her husband as she waited to hear what would happen to her son. She and Carlisle has spoken of little else throughout the night and she had finally accepted that there was no way to escape the punishment of the Volturi guard. Her son had risked the whole family to try and have the Quileute pack of shifter attack the red eyed vampires.

The fallout from the tribe would be hard enough to deal with without losing more of her family needlessly.

She had touched on running from their home last night while Bella had been preoccupied with Alice but that would have risked splitting their family up anyway and they would have been faced with an eternity of being hunted down by the Volturi.

No, as hard as this was for Esme, she understood that her son would have to accept the punishment handed down by Bella, even if that meant death. She wouldn't see other members of her family harmed for his actions.

Edward moved to stand beside Carlisle and Esme as he glared at Bella. "Well?" He asked impatiently as he tried to ignore the smug look on Jane's face. She had provided him with little idea to his fate, only that she would play some hand in it.

"Eager, aren't we?" Bella asked with a chuckle. "You know your life was forfeit the moment at school when you attempted to have your coven attack me?"

Jasper felt Bree shudder and lean heavily against him, he put his arm around her and held her tighter. She disliked violence and while he did his best to keep her from it, he could not spare her from Edward's judgment.

Edward bared his fangs and growled at Bella.

Jane snarled at him and sent a jolt of electricity through his body as a sharp reminder that he should keep himself in check. Perhaps if he had done so when first dealing with Bella he would not be in the position he was now.

Edward stiffened at the shock then it faded to nothing and he flinched back from Bella's stare. Jane's thoughts echoed most of his families and his shoulders dropped as he realised just how helpless even Carlisle was when confronted by the Volturi guards.

He had grossly underestimated Bella.

Bella chuckled at the defeated set of the Cullen boy's body. Finally he had come to see what she had known all along, he was nothing but a child playing a very dangerous game.

But his father knew of her and for that she felt little compassion for Carlisle. Truly her wish would have been to send him back to work with Marcus, back in the makeshift hospital wing where her father spent his days experimenting on the poor beasts that could be found and sent his way.

She knew the blonde vampire wouldn't have the stomach for it any longer.

It was a shame really. But maybe she could save that torture for a future transgression a member of the coven made against her or her mate.

Surely Edward's fate alone would guarantee that.

But perhaps not.

The Cullen's did seem quite a troublesome coven to the Volturi.

The only real method for ensuring less problems would be to sentence them all to life at the Volturi castle. Or by sentencing them all to death.

Bella sighed to herself. The sacrifices she made for her human.

She tilted her head to listen for her mate, the shower had stopped but she could still hear a faint humming which assured her that the girl was not yet ready to make her way down to them.

Good.

She locked eyes with the younger vampire as she felt Jane's power start to stir as her friend grew excited. She would have to warn her of that when the human got here.

"Edward Cullen you are sentenced to twelve months of servitude to be spent at Volterra as junior member of the Volturi guard." Bella said evenly and calmly.

Gasps of horror sounded around them even as Jane squealed in her ear.

Bella ignored it all as she watched the fight die in Edward's golden eyes.

"But, but how?" Esme cried out in panic at the thought of sending her son half way across the world to stay with the most dangerous of all the vampire covens on earth.

Carlisle closed his eyes at the ruling. He had shared many stories of his time there with Edward and even then he had spoken only of the less horrific acts that had taken place. His son would never survive life there.

He opened his eyes again and looked to Isabella Volturi. "Take me instead, I will serve in my son's place."

As chaos erupted around her and the Cullen's all argued in Carlisle's favour Bella felt a thrill run through her at the offer. Could she accept? She eyed Edward again before her smile grew.

"So be it." She said, cutting through the rest of the voices that fell to silence after she had spoken.

Jane clapped her hands together at this shift. Getting to spend a year making Edward do her and every other guards bidding would have been a delight, but to have Carlisle back at the castle. She chuckled at the thought.

"No." Edward said eventually. "This was my mistake and I shall go." He offered with his head held high.

Bella snorted. She wondered if the sentence had been death if the boy would have been so eager to claim his place.

"Edward, no, I will go." Carlisle told his son even as he tried to comfort his sobbing wife. A year was little time to a vampire and of all of them he was the one most capable of dealing with life in Volterra. They had visited before but never for long periods. His son may think he had seen the worst that vampires could do but there was so much horror beyond that.

Jane nodded in agreement with the head of the coven. "As is your place Carlisle." As much as she would like to torture Edward, by law, the consequence for the actions carried out by members of a coven fell to the head of that coven.

Bella looked on dispassionately as Esme continued to cry dry tears and cling to her mate. "You will leave with Jane tonight." She ordered as the rest of the vampires watched on in shock. Bella then addressed Esme who had finally pulled herself away from Carlisle as Alice's footsteps sounded from above them.

Carlisle nodded his acceptance of the command. His eyes however were locked onto the back of his wife who was plating some pancakes for Alice who started down the stairs.

"I am not a complete monster, you shall be allowed to visit occasionally. Provided things remain satisfactory both here and at Volterra." Bella added as she felt the rooms anguish at the thought of the pair being separated for such a length of time. "Maybe this will force Edward to stop thinking only of himself."

Jane scoffed and crossed her arms just as Alice rounded the corner and practically danced into the room.

"Morning!" Alice said as she smiled at her family and then blushed when Bella turned to look at her. She drifted over to the red eyed vampire and touched her shoulder. "Shouldn't you change? We need to leave soon."

Bella scowled at the girl in confusion.

"We have school soon." Jasper provided helpfully.

Bella blew out a breath as Alice giggled. "Oh." School. She pouted at a smirking Jane. She had forgotten about that dreadful experience.

"Thanks." Alice said as Esme laid her breakfast onto the table where she was standing beside Bella. Grinning she eased onto the vampires lap and pulled the plate closer as Jasper passed down the syrup.

Bella looked at the human in her lap strangely, wondering if it was normal for mates to act so carefree with each other or if this trait alone was due to the human in question. She found it hard to believe anyone else would ever invade her personal space so easily.

Even Jane was mildly cautious around her.

But not Alice.

Carlisle stood stiffly. "If you will all excuse me I have some arrangements to make. Please return at the finish of school, we'll have a family meeting to discuss some important matters. Have a good day." He offered his children a strained smile then nodded at Bella and Jane before leaving the room with Esme.

Alice remained in Bella's lap as she ate.

Jane watched her friend highly amused at the human treating Bella as nothing more than a booster seat. "Can I come too?" She asked wondering what else the little human would change about her friend.

Bella glared at Jane, clearly not seeing what entertainment she was providing the blonde.

"To school?" Rosalie asked cautiously. While Carlisle being sent to the Voturi castle for a year may sound harsh there was a lot worse punishments that could have been dealt to them, as it was this was fairly lenient. But that didn't mean Forks could handle two vampires in a building full of school children. Even for a single day. Teenagers were constantly asking for someone to rip their throats out. They were just lucky that serial killers were few and far between.

But there was no telling how many would lose their life to an easily irritated Jane Volturi.

When the reply came it wasn't only from Bella.

"No!"
