***Hello, everyone! I would have had this up a few days again, but seeing as it was written when I was on the side of a mountain, I had no internet. I intended to uploaded it yesterday, when I got home and had signal, but I forgot. So, here I am! I don't own Yuri, Otabek, or Nikolai, but I do own Nadya. Let's go!
Chapter Eight: Not Supposed To Be Like This
"...coming to. His doctor just left, so..."
The rest of Otabek's voice was white noise to Yuri. As he woke up, he felt as though he was in water—everything felt slow, and noise melded together.
After taking a few minutes, Yuri's senses began to work once again. An IV was stuck in the crook of his left elbow, itchy medical tape holding it in place. The sterile scent of a hospital room hit and overwhelmed his nose.
On the bright side, though, Otabek was sitting next to him. "What the hell happened?" was the only think Yuri could think to say.
"The doctors said you had a panic attack, from what I described when I brought you here. Your blood pressure also bottomed our... everything is a lot more sensitive now," Otabek explained, letting his hand rest on Yuri's flat stomach. However, he looked conflicted.
"What is it?" Yuri asked. "The doctors told your grandpa that you're pregnant. He's still the contact you have on record for medical emergencies," Otabek said.
Immediately, Yuri felt his heart clench. "What did he say?" he asked.
"He asked if we were going to keep it. When I said yes, he said that although we're young... he has faith in us, and he'll support us throughout the pregnancy. He was mainly glad that I'm staying with you," Otabek said.
Yuri sighed in relief. If he'd lost the support of his grandpa, it would've been a serious blow to him. After all, his only other biological family had barely been in his life for more than a few weeks now.
And speaking of that...
"Does my mom know?" Yuri asked, his voice uncharacteristically quiet.
"She came with your grandpa. Since the doctors told us about the baby's health right after yours, we all three heard everything. But right after your mom heard that you were having a baby, she left. Didn't even say a word. I don't know where she is. Your grandpa and I were the only ones who came to see you up here. He should be coming back soon with the doctor, though," Otabek said.
As if summoned by just being mentioned, it only took a few more minutes for Nikolai to turn up with the doctor.
"I'm glad to see you awake, Yuri. How are you feeling?" she asked kindly. However, his health wasn't what was on the forefront of Yuri's mind. "Is the woman who came with these two still somewhere at this hospital?" he asked.
The doctor was a little taken aback. "I saw her sitting outside. I asked her if she would like to see you, since she looked concerned and at least claimed to be your mother. She said she needed a minute, though," she said.
Yuri got out of his bed, using Otabek's shoulder and the IV pole to steady himself for the first few steps.
"Her minute is up. I need to go and talk to her."
XxX
Otabek has been kind enough to donate the light jacket he'd been wearing so Yuri had some sense of coverage as he slowly made his way outside, his boyfriend and grandpa ready to help him if he needed it.
Sure enough, sitting on the bench outside was Nadya, deep in thought. Yuri sat next to her. "Beka, Grandpa, can you leave us alone?" he asked. Reluctantly, the requested was followed.
Nadya turned to her son. "I understand that you were probably a little angry when they told you my reaction?" she guessed.
"No, I was thrilled that the first thing my mother did when she heard I was pregnant was run away. Of course I was pissed!" Yuri snapped.
Nadya's guilt was all over her face. "I left because I was scared, Yurachka. I left because I was afraid that, because you were so young... you would hate you baby. I didn't want you to be like me. No child deserves to be hated," she said.
Yuri was silent, for once. His arm laid absentmindedly across his middle. "I wasn't sure what to think, at first. For a few seconds, I didn't want a baby, initially," he admitted.
Then, he locked eyes with his mother. "But take my word for it. I'm going to raise my child better than you ever raised me."
Whereas most parents would take that in a negative connotation, Nadya smiled, and hugged Yuri suddenly. "Please, do better with them," she said.
To Yuri's own surprise, he hugged her back. "I will, Mom," he said.
"I promise."
