Chapter 7: Formal Dancing

A/N: Hello everyone! Thank you for reading my story. It motivates me to write more and more! Anyways, I will now be referring to Flynn as Eugene, as he revealed to be his real name in the last chapter. I don't have anything else to say, so let's get on with the chapter!

I do not own Tangled… And I never will ):

A brisk breeze swept through the orange and yellow leaves, causing them to fall gracefully to the ground. Summer was already a fading memory in the minds of the students at Corona High. It was a cool Friday night. In a small apartment, two youngsters were getting ready for their night.

"Eugene! Where's my dress?" A petite brunette's voice yelled from the bedroom.

"I don't know, sweetheart. I'm not the organized one, you are!" The smug young man teased. The brunette groaned as she rummaged through the closets and drawers that filled the bedroom.

"Where the fuck is it?" she threw her arms up, frustration filling her body. She stomped around the room trying to find the dress.

"Woah there Blondie, language."

"S-Sorry, I'm just a little stressed right now."

Rapunzel was currently looking for her periwinkle v-neck empire dress. They had a big night ahead of them, and they were already running late. Rapunzel hated being late to anything. She just felt wrong being late to anything. She threw clothes all over the bedroom, covering the bed and floorboards with clothing.

Eugene, on the other hand, was fixing his tie in the bathroom. He was admiring his charcoal gray suit. He picked it just to match Rapunzel's dress. He wore a periwinkle tie just to top it off. He nodded at himself and made his way to the disaster in the bedroom.

"Rapunzel, what do you think you are doing?" Eugene shook his head.

"Eugene, help me, please!" She pleaded as she grabbed her hair. Eugene let out a good laugh and walked over to her.

"So, what happened to the organized and clean woman I first met?" He asked, grabbing her hip.

"I- What- Look!" She was clearly frustrated. "It's all your fault I'm like this, so help me find the dress! Pascal and Max are waiting on us." She quickly got out of his grasp and continued looking.

"Fine, fine." Eugene looked around the room and realized something. "Blondie, you hung it up in the living room, remember?" Rapunzel stood there in silence. She just couldn;t believe she stressed out over nothing. It wasn't that she misplaced it, it was just that she had forgotten. She dashed out the bedroom and grabbed the dress that was hanging over the couch.

"Thank you Eugene, thank you so much!" She planted some kisses on his face and bolted for the bathroom. She changed as quickly as she could, not caring for her hair. It was already short, there was no need to do it.

"Alright, I'm ready," Rapunzel walked out the bedroom in her dress. She was stunning. Her favorite color was always purple and Eugene loved that. Her leafy-green eyes popped with the purple. He just loved the contrast.

"Beautiful as always Blondie," Eugene winked at her, walking with her to the door.

"Yes, yes, save your compliments for later. We have to go. Now."

"Fine, lets go."

The two basically stumbled down the stairs and quickly entered Eugene's car. He sped out of the apartment's parking lot. All the trees around them were turning a shade of orange or yellow. A few months have already passed since they became an official couple. School life was pretty normal. There was occasional teasing from not only the students but also some teachers, but it is what it is. Some girls were jealous of Rapunzel, while others congratulated the two. Eugene, the use to be "bad boy" turned good because of her. Everyone could appreciate her. They hadn't seen or heard from Mother Gothel at all. Eugene hypothesized that she completely forgot about her, but Rapunzel knew she didn't. She was still scared of her and always kept her guard up. Everything had been going well though. They lived their life peacefully, nothing too bad happening.

"So Rapunzel, why the big rush anyways?" Eugene tapped his finger on the steering wheel as he watched the light.

"I just don't like keeping people waiting," she replied.

"I can see that, but we're only like, five minutes late. It's not that big of a deal. Max can wait."

"Don't forget about Pascal!" She shouted out.

Eugene groaned. Pascal could be a pain in the ass sometimes, but they still got along because of Rapunzel. Or at least they tried to. Eugene did things that Pascal didn't like, and vice versa. Eugene would take Rapunzel out to drink sometimes or act a little too intimate in public. Pascal, on the other hand, would try to get in between the two when they were all together. Eugene found him a little unbearable, while Pascal found him to be a bad influence. They grew to accept each other though, all for the sake of Rapunzel.

"I didn't forget about pipsqueak, I just didn't remember him."

"That's the same thing!" Rapunzel frowned.

"Potato, tomato," Eugene shrugged. She rolled her eyes and looked out the window. They drove to the front of a fancy looking restaurant. As they passed the front, they saw Pascal and Max chatting. Eugene parked as close as he could to the restaurant. They got out and sped-walked to the duo, although it was a little difficult for Rapunzel in her heels.

"This is why I like being barefoot," Rapunzel complained.

"Just gotta suck it up, sweetie," Eugene winked. They got to the front of the restaurant and greeted their friends. Pascal was dressed in a dark green suit with a red tie. It was kind of an odd sight but it worked well on him. Max wore a white suit and tie. It matched his demeanor. Rapunzel gave a thumbs up to both of them, and a smile from Eugene.

"Sorry to keep you guys waiting," Rapunzel apologized, bowing her head a bit.

"No need to worry Raps," Pascal smiled.

"Yeah, we were fine just chatting here. It wasn't even that long," Max added.

"See Blondie, they didn't care. No need to stress yourself over something like this," Eugene snickered, earning him some rolled eyes and a jab on the side.

"I know we said it didn't matter, but why were you guys late?" Pascal inquired.

"Well… Lets just say-" Rapunzel started.

"She forgot where she put her dress!" Eugene finished. Rapunzel face flushed red. Pascal and Max exchanged glances at each other, then let out a good laugh.

"It's alright Rapunzel, everyone forgets things," Pascal comforted her.

"That's right! At least you're not as bad as Eugene. He forgets basically everything," Max poked fun at Eugene.

"Hey! Don't turn this on me," Eugene crossed his arms and looked away. The group had a couple more good laughs and eventually entered the restaurant. The entrance was dazzling, a bright chandelier hanging above them. The walls were beautifully designed, filled with little swirls and decals. Rapunzel's appreciation of art took over her as she walked over to the walls. She examined them closely, grazing her fingers across them carefully. All the walls were hand-painted, even the littlest parts had details.

"I knew you would love it," Eugene winked at her.

"It's so beautiful. I don't even know what to say," She walked back to the group who were waiting to be seated. Eugene had already set up a reservation, so they just had to wait for a little. They were led through the building to the back area. In the middle of the restaurant stood a fountain with intricate designs, prompting Rapunzel to take peeks at it.

"Cmon Eugene, let's take a picture together!" She begged him like a child, giving him puppy eyes. Eugene just couldn't resist her eyes. It was something he really needed to work on.

"Okay fine, but just one okay?"

"Okay!" Rapunzel chirped back as she pulled out her phone. Eugene threw his arm over her shoulder and took the phone from Rapunzel. She smiled brightly and threw up peace signs with both her hands. Eugene snapped a picture and examined it. He wore a smug smile, nodding his head.

"What do you think, Blondie?" Eugene showed her the phone.

"Looks good!" Rapunzel nodded in content. The waitress stood there patiently, smiling at the couple.

"Sorry about this," Max apologized to the waitress.

"It's quite alright, I don't mind," she replied back. Rapunzel and Eugene went back to following the waitress, and were finally seated. It was a circle table covered with a white table cloth with their utensils folded in some fancy napkins.

"So, what kind of drinks will we be having today?" The waitress politely asked as she gently placed the menus in front of the guests. They ordered their drinks. Eugene decided to have some Pepsi while Rapunzel was feeling orange juice today. Max got his usual apple juice, and Pascal decided to settle with water. The waitress marked that all down and went on her way to get them. The group opened their menus, trying to find out what to eat. There were all kinds of dishes they could choose from, but the prices frightened the crew.

"This is absurd Eugene! $120 dollars for just an entree? What?!" Rapunzel almost yelled. Eugene just shrugged it off.

"I got extra money, so I might as well treat you guys."

"But Eugene… It doesn't feel right," Max jested. Max was one who didn't care for Eugene's spending, but this felt like robbing him.

"Yeah, Max is right. At least let us chip some in." Even Pascal didn't feel it was right for Eugene to pay the bill.

"No guys, it's on me and that's final. I decided that we should go here, so I will be the one to pay," Eugene ended that conversation. The three looked at each other and let out a sigh knowing that he would not change his mind. Eugene smiled trimpulanity, flipping through the menu. They decide to do the same, finding something they would enjoy. A few minutes later the waitress came back with their drinks, placing them onto the table.

"Are you ready to order?" she asked.

"Yes, we are," Eugene answered. Eugene decided to go with lamb loin with parmesan risotto while Rapunzel went with grilled salmon and buttered asparagus. Max went with a filet mignon with roasted tomatoes. Pascal wanted something lighter so he ordered grilled red snapper with broccoli. They handed all but one menu to the waitress. They placed it near the middle of the table where a candle was lit.

The ambience of the restaurant was very classy. Classical music played lightly throughout, and quiet chatter filled the air. The group felt a little out of place. All of them have never been to a place like this. Eugene especially felt out of place, knowing how he used to be. He never thought he would set foot in a place like this.

"Eugene, how did you find this place?" Rapunzel whispered to him.

"I just asked around," Eugene vaguely answered, causing Rapunzel to raise an eyebrow. She decided to to question any further though. She did appreciate the gesture of going here, and was very happy when he invited Pascal and Max. Tonight was a big night for all of them. It was homecoming night! The group had decided to go together as it seemed like the right occasion. Eugene and Rapunzel obviously as a couple, while Pascal and Max tagged along. The couple didn't really mind them though, as they would all do their own things at the dance. Eugene and Pascal never really went to school dances, while Max only went a couple times because he had been asked. Eugene was unwillingly at first, but after a bit of convincing and begging from Rapunzel, he decided he'd go. When he finally agreed, Rapunzel jumped in joy. Rapunzel, obviously, had never been to a dance. She loved to dance, but Gothel would always restrict her from doing it. Rapunzel would have to dance in secret and in her small room, not giving her much space to express herself. Eugene shook his head as thought back to it.

"So guys, what's the plan after homecoming?" Eugene asked, looking at all of them. They all stared back in confusion.

"What do you mean Eugene?" Pascal asked.

"Usually you go out afterwards to do something, right?" Eugene looked at Max. He confirmed this by nodding.

"I was just thinking we go home and rest," Pascal suggested.

"Maybe Rapunzel and I will go do something," Eugene winked at her, causing a slight blush to appear on her face. Pascal glared at Eugene while Max shook his head in disappointment. "Come on guys, it's a joke. A joke!" Eugene put his hands up, putting on the innocent act.

"I think you two should go do something though in all seriousness," Max smiled at them. They had been a couple for a while now. They were a cute couple in most people's minds.

"Yeah, you two should get some more alone time instead of hanging with us afterwards. Just don't do anything too crazy," Pascal laughed. "And Eugene, be nice to her."

"Are you giving us your blessing, Sir Pascal?" Eugene raised an eyebrow.

Pascal rubbed his chin while looking at Eugene. "Hmmm…. Yes." The group had a good laugh as their waitress placed their entrees down. They all thanked her as she walked away.

"It looks so good!" Rapunzel stared at everyone's plates. They all nodded in agreement, and started digging in. The meal was very satisfying, both in taste and hunger. They shared their food amongst each other while talking about the past week. It was a hectic week, whether it was setting up for homecoming, or shopping for Rapunzel's dress. Rapunzel and Eugene had to go to at least ten stores before Rapunzel found the "perfect" dress. She really liked her dress. It was modest in the skin it showed, only having a slight v-slit around her cleavage. Rapunzel had always been self-conscious about her breast size, and body in general, because of Gothel. She would always poke fun at how petite her figure was, comparing it to her own. Rapunzel always wore modest clothing, even though Eugene thought she was perfect. Eugene encouraged her to be more bold, but she chose not to. Eugene didn't mind though, as she was still beautiful. She wore very minimal make-up, just some light blush and foundation.

They finished up their meal and decided not to have dessert tonight. Everyone, but Eugene, agreed on this. Eugene encouraged them to do so, but they all declined because they didn't want to burden him. They had found something they could do to defeat him. Sighing, Eugene called the waitress over and paid for their meal.

"Alright, I think it's about time we head to the venue," Max took out his pocket watch. It was 7:48 PM. The dance started at 8:00, so they had time to get there. Eugene chose a restaurant that was kind of close, allowing for more dining time.

"Yeah sounds like a plan. See you guys there!" Eugene agreed. The couple walked to Eugene's car while the other two went to Max's car. Max drove a honda civic that was a hand-me-down from his parents. He didn't care what car he had and drove whatever he had. The two cars drove off to the venue. The venue was in a private golf course. The main building had a dance hall that had been decorated for the occasion. The theme for homecoming was Royalty. The place was decorated to be like the ballroom of a castle, and it was set up beautifully. The room they got already looked like a castle ballroom, with a large chandelier hanging above. The room was large enough to fit tables and other miscellaneous things around, while still having enough space for a dance floor. Rapunzel and Eugene were the first to arrive and made their way to the entrance, where there was a line for checking in.

"Hey guys look, it's Corona High's oddest couple!" a peer called out as they approached. The two looked at each other. They both gave a princess wave to the crowd, earning them a laugh. They were deemed the oddest couple because they were so different. A player and a naive girl. It just seemed… odd.

"They may be odd but they sure are cute together," a girl commented.

"Yeah! They really are," another agreed. Everyone agreed on this. They were the most popular couple at Corona high, and were expected to win King and Queen for the night. There wasn't really anyone else people could think of who would win that position.

"Hey lovebirds," Arianna approached the two form the crowd.

"Hey Ari!" Rapunzel greeted, giving her a hug. Rapunzel looked up to Arianna. She was a strong willed and independent woman. Through these first couple months of school, she showed her how to do a lot of things and taught her many things. Rapunzel would go to her for help with Eugene or other girl problems. She was like another mother to Rapunzel.

"You're so beautiful," Arianna hugged her back, running her hand through Rapunzel's hair. Eugene looked at the two, and caught Arianna's eyes looking at him. She gave him a smug look as she pulled back from the embrace. "So Eugene, how was the restaurant?" He shrugged and stayed silent.

"How'd you know?" Rapunzel tilted her head.

"Who do you think told him where to go?" Arianna smirked.

"It was you?" Rapunzel mouth gaped. Arianna nodded.

"How'd you like it?" Arianna questioned.

"It was the most beautiful place I've been to!"

"That's what I thought you'd say."

Eugene looked at the two and smiled. They had such a good relationship and he was happy about that. He too looked up to Arianna. She was a parent-figure for Eugene, thus why he always wanted to be in her class. It wasn't just because she was a fun person, but she was also very mature and helped him through a lot of troubles.

"Alright, I've taken up enough of your time. You two should go in a enjoy the dance!" Arianna then left the two to go back to checking students in. She had already marked their names, so they were able to get in while it was still sort of empty. When they walked in they were surprised to see Pascal and Max already there.

"How did you two get in here already?" Eugene was taken aback by the two.

"Yeah! We got here before you,"Rapunzel added.

"We used the back entrance," Max admitted.

"Is that even allowed?" Rapunzel looked at the two suspiciously. Max and Pascal looked at each other and shrugged. Rapunzel let out a sigh while Eugene laughed.

"What do we even do at a dance?" Pascal asked the three.

"Well… dance… duh," Eugene said, acting like a smartass. Pascal glared at Eugene while Rapunzel poked his side a bit.

More and more people started coming in, and the dance floor became crowded. The DJ was playing the popular songs and everyone was getting down to it. Eugene listened to metal and rap, while Rapunzel enjoyed classical and indie pop. Pascal didn't really listen to music. Max was really the only one who was jamming out to the music. They were all dancing, but Max was more into it than the others. Rapunzel loved dancing, it made her feel so free. Eugene smiled as he watched his girl dance her heart out. Her movements for fluid, like she had been dancing for years Eugene, on the other hand, kept his movements very minimal, only moving his arms and legs slightly. Rapunzel noticed this and the hip bumped him, causing him to lose his balance. He shook his head as he stabilized himself.

"What was that for Blondie?" Eugeneraised an eyebrow.

"C'mon Eugene! Get in the groove!" Rapunzel smirked.

"No can do. Not my thing," he shrugged as he moved himself towards the edges of the crowd. Rapunzel followed him, still jamming out to the music. When they finally reached the edges, he looked over to Rapunzel. She gave him puppy eyes with her large, emerald eyes. He tried to resist and look away, but she would always jump into his view. He just can't resist her cuteness sometimes.

"For me?" She had the biggest grin on her face.

"Fine, you win," Eugene gave in and started becoming more bold with his dancing. He moved to the edges just because of this. He just didn't want people to see him dancing. He wasn't bad per se, but his movements were a little robotic, and not in the actual dancing way. He looked funny, causing Rapunzel to giggle.,

"Are you laughing at me?" Eugene looked at her.

"No, no… I just saw something.. Funny!" She looked around for an excuse. The two continued to dance and dance. The music eased down a bit and turned into something more slow and romantic. Eugene slowed down his dancing and extended his hand out to his partner. She gave him a smile. Her little freckled face and big emerald eyes were irresistible to Eugene as she accepted his hand. He pulled her into his chest and started the slow dance. It was a little sloppy from the two, as this was the first time they ever danced together. Rapunzel would occasionally step on his feet, quickly apologizing. Eugene didn't mind though, as she wasn't very heavy.

After a bit they got used to it, dancing to the rhythm of the song. It was like time and slowed down, and they were the only ones there. Everyone else was blurred out as they felt the warmth of each other's hands and bodies. It was a magical and intimate moment for the two. They savored every second of it. The music slowly came to an end. Applause broke them out of their trance, seeing that they were in the middle of everyone. All eyes were on them. Eugene let out an awkward laugh as Rapunzel hid herself in Eugene's coat.

"What's everyone looking at?" Eugene made a smug face.

"Well I don't know Eugene, what is everyone looking at?" a classmate called out

"We're all looking at you two, dumbass!" another person yelled.

"You guys danced wonderfully!" a complement flew out.

More comments and compliments were thrown out at them as the music shifted\ to instrumental background music.

"Alright everyone, settle down," Arianna spoke into her mic, standing on a stage. "It's time to announce your king and queen." Everyone let out another round of applause and quieted down when Arianna cleared her throat.

"To start off, I'd like to thank all of you for coming. I would also like to thank those who helped set up this event," Arianna went through formalities first. She went on to thank the staff and sponsors, and eventually got to the main event.

"Now that all that's out of the way, let's get onto the good stuff!" Arianna yelled out, applause in the back. "Your queen of the night is…" she paused, filling the students with suspense.

"Rapunzel Bruan!" Applause erupted as Rapunzel walked up to the stage. She tripped a little over the stairs, causing laughter. Rapunzel smiled awkwardly and waved as she stood next to Arianna.

"You're doing great," Arianna whispered to her.

"I sure hope so," Rapaunlzed said, swirling her short hair nervously.

"And your king of the night is… Eugene Fitzherbert!" She announced, and more applause followed. He smoothly walked up to the stage and wrapped his arm around Rapunzel's, placing his hand on her hip.

"Thank you everyone thank you!" He yelled out and winked at a few people. Arianna rolled her eyes as she placed the crowns on the two. Eugene and Rapunzel looked at each other. Eugene smirked evilly and pulled her in for a kiss, causing lots of wooing and hollers to come out the crowd. Rapunzel was shocked at first, but then eased into the kiss. This wasn't their first kiss anyways. She slowly melted into it. The night was amazing, and she wished it would never end.

The couple kissed on stage unbeknown of who was in the crowd. A woman with long black hair, and murderous intent in her eyes.

Mother Gothel.
