I keep rewriting this whole chapter in different way to explain it better, but it keeps coming out wrong. But even though I'm not satisfied with this chapter one bit, I'm posting it to give you guys an update.

Love you all!

Tears welded up in Natsu's eyes as the suppressed memories of future Lucy's death resurfaced from the deepest, darkest coroner of his mind that all bad memories were shoved into and forgotten. Her pain. The blood and tears she let out as she expressed her regrets of not being able to go on more adventures with her friends. It was happening all over again, Natsu thought as his hands reached up to grip at his hair. It may not have been the same gruesome death the Rogue of the future has dealt her, but it was still death all the same. A death in which she was an innocent victim once more and would have her dreams of grand adventures taken from her once more. A death that he- once again- could not prevent.

"How...?" Laxus questioned weakly, his voice trailing off as his dragon seemed to emanate a high pitched whine of sorrow at Gajeels words.

"You wouldn't know being a third generation slayer, and I'll admit that we are partially to blame for all this. We never bothered to check and see just how alike or different you were compared to those of us raised by dragons, and that's where we fucked up." Gajeel began as he plopped himself down to the ground. "You see, dragons have what's called a Chosen One, or in a much simpler term, a Mate. It's that one dragon in all the world that was created to be their match. They can have no other partner nor will they have the urge for another. And this is something that was passed down to us slayers by our dragons.

As we learned how to master Dragon Slaying Magic, an inner beast slowly formed, our own inner dragon so to speak. It's this inner beast that allows us to have a Mate. And just like our dragons, our inner beast will only allow us to love, mate and impregnate the one it has chosen."

"You mean... is that why I can't...?" Laxus trailed off wide eyed.

"Fuck around anymore? Yup." Gajeel answered. "Our inner dragon chooses someone it believes to be the most compatible with us in mind, body and spirit. That one person that is most worthy, like 'I want to get married and have babies' worthy, to create a mating bond with. This bond is something that happens in the heat of the moment during intimacy and it allows you to basically connect with your Chosen in a way like no other. You'll feel each others emotions and be able to share magic. You'll know when one of you are in danger among a few other little things that aren't important right now. Bottom line is, that person is 'it' for you just like you will be 'it' for them. Which brings me back to what I said about dragons earlier. They can't sleep with anyone else. You can't sleep with anyone else."

"Although fascinating and new to me, what does this have to do with Lucy and Laxus dying! Just cut to the chase, Gajeel!" Sweet Wendy snapped. Because as much as she would have loved to learn more about the subject on Mates, she needed to know why he has said death awaited both her blonde guild mates and if there was a way to help prevent it.

"I was getting to that, short stuff!" He snapped right back before continuing on. "As I was saying. Now the problem right now is that when you find your Mate, our Magic creates a tie with them to help prepare you both for the mating. It wouldn't do to jump head first into a mating without this courting period to solidify the tie needed to place your claim. Now, what's the issue with this tie? It's one that is connected by our souls. Metalicana told me that this tie was called a courting period, where you'd get to learn about one another, deepen your feelings and strengthen your bonds. You'd also use this time to introduce your magic to the Mates system so they can be fully prepared to accept it during the mating process and the placement of the final mark to forever entangle yourselves for life.

And from what I've gathered, you formed this tie with Lucy, and in there lies the problem. This tie, although not a mating bond, is just as strong as one. You and Lucy are connected by this tie now and by rejecting one another... you've no doubt already noticed it Laxus. The overwhelming anger, the ache in your chest, the emptiness, the pain and longing. Before long you'll lose yourself to it all and so will Lucy."
